Response from East Penn Hardwood Flooring
East Penn Hardwood Flooring did not have an appointment with this person. They had called our office and then when they told us that job consisted of only one small room, we informed them that we were too busy to do such a small job. They then asked us if there was anybody we could recommend. We told them that an former business partner of our company who was now retired but would sometimes do small jobs like theirs and provided them his contact info for them if they wanted to call him. They called our office a few days later to say that this person never showed and could we refer anybody else. We mentioned another company that was up in their area and they said they had called that company already and that that company declined as they were too busy also. So again, East Penn Hardwood Flooring did NOT schedule any appointments or work with this person.

Description of Work: Had my floors refinished on the upstairs level. Amazing what they looked like when they were completely done! They looked like new floors and the house was built in 1969. Prompt service and the job was completed in the time promised. I would and have recommended their service.

Description of Work: They did fine, as far as the installation of the hardwood floor, it was excellent. When it came down to the floor molding trim, they had to sand down a part of trim that overhang, therefore scratching the brand new wood floors! It was left that way! Some trim are not flushed with wall. They scratch the whole width of my sliding bathroom door with finishing trim nails!! Supposedly they could handle the installation in the bathroom by uninstalling all bathroom fixtures including the toilet, thereby me calling a plumber, after job was done, to fix the installation by east penn hardwood co. They reimbursed me $50. cost was beyond that. Ask to see if the boss can review the work, he said he's busy! So I apologized and accepted the work!!! RECOMMENDATIONS will be QUESTIONABLE!!!!! But I must admit, a bunch of good guys!!!

Response from East Penn Hardwood Flooring
This customer first visited our showroom several times to gather technical information and borrow samples to make a flooring decision. Then due to price, customer then went to Lowes to purchase other flooring material and contracted them to do installation. Customer then called us shortly thereafter to help them out, because they tore their house apart for floor installation and once Lowes' installers showed up, the installers walked off job (reason was not given to us as to why). We quickly stopped at customer's house to review site and after inspecting flooing materials, they were mutually determined to be defective and uninstallable. Customer then returned materials to Lowes and revisited our showroom a final time to make a material selection with us and have us install it. As the flooring material customer chose was of a higher price and quality, customer begged with us to help them fit it in their original Lowes' budget. We graciously agreed to discount several hundred dollars of labor amd materials to help them out. We were then contracted to provide and install wood flooring and also install baseboard molding and toilet & sink using materials and parts that the customer insisted on purchasing themselves to save money. Once arriving to jobsite, we discovered there were several large pieces of furniture in way that were supposed to be moved. We had to move furniture back and forth about the main room as we installed, as customer did not want furniture moved into other rooms or outside. This delayed project considerably, but we did not charge customer extra for this. We installed provided baseboard molding, which was a MDF material (pressed paper, not real wood) and also in short pieces. Because customer did not purchase proper length materials, we were forced to seam molding at several spots. One of these is "overhang" he refers to. During his post installtion inspection, he found a seam he did not like. We then gladly sanded seam, upon which he closely inspected seam and surrounding floor area and gave it his approval. Therefore, no scratches were present on floor when we left jobsite. It is also important to note that gap between wall and baseboard molding that customer mentions, was remedied prior to us leaving site as we had caulked and puttied all molding (which was not included in original scope of contracted work, but we did for free). With toilet and sink, the customer purchased their own wax ring and sink trip. The wax ring purchased was not the proper extended type and the sink trap was wrong size. We installed toilet and sink utilizing old trap for sink and wax ring they supplied. We then informed customer that they need to purchase the correct parts and if they liked, we could make a seperate return trip to reinstall items, but would have to charge a service call fee for extra trip. Customer then got very incensed. In an effort to calm situation, we offered a $50.00 discount to use towards them utilizing their own plumber who they said they knew. The customer was pushing for further refunds on this matter, but we declined to offer any more as we had already given them several discounts and free work already and that the extra labor involved was due to customer purchasing wrong materials. In reference to sctratch in door, customer called day following installation and said that a nail was scratching sliding pocket door. Within 24 hrs, we sent a technician over to address this issue. Nail was trimmed out of the way and door scratch was filled. Technician then asked customer for some of the trim paint to touch door up. Customer then told our technician to not worry about it as he was repainting all doors and newly installed molding anyway. 6 weeks after completing this customer's job, they had called our office asking to speak with East Penn owner. Receptionist, as per company protocol, then asked customer what did the matter concern. Customer then refused to say what the issue was. Before East Penn owner was able to call customer back, customer e-mailed East Penn owner directly asking owner to come over to customer's home to review East Penn's work (done 6 weeks prior), but would not say what issue was (again). East Penn owner then promptly e-mailed customer back asking what the issue was that they would like to show us. Customer then again would not say, just that we should come over. Needless to say, we found this refusal to say what issue pertained to as being verry odd. Also, as 6 weeks had passed prior to anything said to us. East Penn owner then politely told customer that we were confused as to if there was any issue, especially at the time our technicians left job on final day, the customer told them that they did a great job. Customer then abruptly said that we were to not worry bout it and that it was nothing and every was fine. East Penn owner then thanked customer for his business and to let us know if he ever needed anything else. It is also very important to note that we NEVER told customer we were "too busy" and never refused to go to their home to look at any issues. As of writing this, we have called once and e-mailed 3 times to go customer's house with our technicians to review issue(s) [which we still do not know what it is!!], but customer still has not gotten back to us to make any arrangements.

My overall experience with them was excellent and I would highly recommend them. It was better than installing the new flooring in terms of the cost. I found them through the neighborhood referral. Their price was right under the three other companies.

It was important that the company I hired begin the job right after settlement - I was promised this and East Penn delivered. They also finished the job in the time frame promised and did a very nice job. They were professional and worked really hard. There are two areas in this house where we will need to have hardwood installed and we will definitely call them again.

Description of Work: East Penn was very responsive to my requst for an estimate. They showed up on time and worked very well with my difficult schedule. We had just re-painted all of the rooms they were refinishing the floors in and they took it upon themselves to find where I stored my extra paint an touch up the walls where their equipment had left marks. Refinishing floors is a very dusty project and while I had to go around and do some light clean up and dusting, the East Penn did an amazing clean-up job. I would highly recommend them.
