East Penn Hardwood Flooring

East Penn did a wonderful job refinishing wide pine floors,some of which were warped from water damage. They controlled the dust from sanding very well. We had an electrical problem with a GFI outlet: although they did not cause the problem they spent several hours tracking it down and repairing it at no extra cost. Would definitely recommend them to anyone looking to install or refinish wood floors.

East Penn sent two crews: one to implement demolition (remove carpeting and sub flooring) and install hard wood and another crew to finish the red oak. In my widest dreams I couldn't imagine a nicer job. The men, scribed around a fairly complicated stone hearth and installed two custom made door thresholds to transition from the hardwood floor to a slate floor. The thresholds are beautiful and seamless. If you can get these guys, don't look back. They are the best. We used another established firm in our previous house and suffered a miserable experience. East Penn sets the bar impossibly high for anyone else to top.

When we decided we wanted to have the floors refinished in our 97-year-old craftsman home in Allentown, we asked around and checked out the floors in other homes to see what we liked and to get recommendations of flooring contractors from homeowners and realtors. We saw a lot of nice floors, and the ones that impressed us the most were all done by one company - East Penn Hardwood Flooring. So I called and arranged for an appointment to have them look at our house and give us an estimate. They were very friendly, courteous and professional. We met and reviewed what we wanted to have done, and they gave us a written estimate and a projected start date. Because we were planning on remaining in the home during extensive renovations, it took longer to empty our house than we originally planned, and we decided to have some work done by other contractors (really, just the bathroom floor, which was a small project). And we decided to hold off on doing the floors in the bedrooms upstairs to avoid having to empty the entire house. And I needed some additional time to empty the first floor. So we had to change both the scope of the project and our projected start date. They accommodated our changes without any problems. When the day came to begin the project, we had everything emptied as promised, and they sent one experienced installer to remove and replace our kitchen floor, which he did in one day. The next day, they arrived with three trucks and a crew of five eager workers who went about removing our old carpet and padding, stripping off the old glue from the padding, making repairs in a few places, and sanding the floors in our living room, dining room, staircase, landing and second floor hallway. Over the course of the next three days, they sanded, puttied, and refinished our soft pine floors and oak steps and landing and installed new toe molding throughout the living room and dining room, which they painted to match our trim. They also applied three layers of polyurethane, allowing a full day for each coat to dry. After four days, we have what looks like a new old house! As a former litigation attorney, I particularly appreciated how easy it was to work with everyone at the company, from owners Jim and Mike to Cookie and TJ in the office and Brian, Troy, and the rest of the crew in the field. In the end, they delivered what they promised, and our floors look beautiful and have restored the original unique look of our craftsman arts and crafts home. But better yet, they made the project conflict and pain free and all on deadline and at a reasonable price. I am sure you could find another company to do your floors and probably for a cheaper price, but I wanted the best, and with East Penn Hardwood Flooring, I think that is exactly what we got. I would give them FIVE ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️.

Fantastic, they are true professionals

I recently bought a home and after settlement, I realized the wood floors were in pretty rough shape. I wanted to try to get them refinished before I moved in. I was able to get a quote and they were able to come out to do the job very quickly. The whole process took 3 days, but the second two days only took 1-2 hours each day to apply the second and third coat of poly. I was very happy with the results. Everything looks great and I was so happy that I was able to get it done so fast. Everyone I encountered was very friendly.

Highly recommend East Penn Flooring in Allentown for hardwood flooring. We spent a good amount of time reviewing options prior to setup and Jim answered a lot of questions. We choose Robinson wood flooring - Brazilian Cherry for our entire first floor. The crew was good to work did nice work. We really appreciated the details which is exactly what I was looking for. They worked very hard and the floor looks 100% better than carpet and vinyl. For anyone looking to replace any type of flooring, I would highly recommend East Penn because they offer great choices and excellent work.

They did an excellent job! They actually were able to begin my job earlier than expected, were quick, meticulous, and very clean, and even helped me move a piece of furniture. People compliment my floors all the time, even in pictures of my home. I will only use East Penn Hardwood Flooring! They also referred me to an excellent painter, Ryan Hoxie. I couldn't be more pleased with how my home looks and feels now. Absolutely recommend them and have to many friends and family!

I called them to schedule an estimate at my home. After studying their website, their website states that if you have one room or a whole house that they could accommodate. I only had the one room, the living room. From the website I felt invited to give them a call to get the estimate. I gave them a call and no one answered the phone. I called a 2nd time and described what I was interested in and they informed me that they could not do a job that small that they were to busy. I reminded them that they said they could do one room or a whole house. Again they declined my project.

They exceeded my expectations! The floors are gorgeous & impeccable! They finished my floors as scheduled on time! The owner is very professional! It was a pleasure doing business with them!

We had great early discussions with Mark to decide on the selection of flooring to match existing floors. The work was scheduled quickly and installed with great professionalism by the team and completed in one day. We did the carpet removal and room clearance. The floor looks GREAT we are dry happy with it and our overall experience.

The floors look beautiful....virtually brand new. We felt the price was very reasonable for the scope of the job. Would definitely use them again.

They worked with the painters to get everything done and not get in each other's way. They were very easy to work with. I had engineered hardwood since I don't have a basement. I went to the showroom and was able to borrow samples. The owner's mother works in the showroom and she was very helpful and nice. I was concerned when they were done because I still had to move in and was afraid the movers would scratch the floors. They left me rolls of thick paper to cover the floors with. So the move went well and my floors are gorgeous and easy to care for.

I was really glad I found this company. Everything was smooth in my experience, from Cookie who schedules, answers the calls, and takes payments, to Jim who measures and estimates, to the crew that came out and did the job. Jim was very responsive over email and was able to fit me in right away. The crew finished the work in a total of 4 days and did a great job, too. In terms of pricing, they are the most competitive among the four quotes I got. I really enjoyed working with them. They seem to understand the need for good pricing and professional execution. Would hire them back in a heartbeat.

The East Penn flooring team were extremely professional and did an amazing job!! We just purchased our home in Feb. and knew the floors needed re-done. Since it is rare a home is clear of furniture we want the floors done before we moved in. Jim was so helpful and nice. I had struggled to get quotes from other companies as the sellers did not want people coming into the home for quotes. Jim was agreed to provide a quote based on photos and square footage (I assured him if anything was incorrect we could amend the agreement we had signed to ensure he got paid fairly). He showed such kindness during a very stressful home purchase which sold us on hiring East Penn. We were blown away by the final product! It's month later and we still get compliments from anyone visiting the home, I am extremely happy with the results and the customer centered focus of this business. I would highly recommend them! I wish I could upload photos of the before and after it was truly an amazing transformation.

I called East Penn in June to schedule an estimate to refinish existing wood floor for an entire house, including stairs. The woman who answered was polite, took my information (name, number, description) and said they were backed up until the end of August. I was willing to wait because I've heard such good things. I never heard from them again. At the beginning of September I called to follow up. She obviously lost my information because she asked for my name, number, and description again. I explained to her three times I left all that with her two months ago. She said they're now backed up until the end of October. I expressed my frustration stating that I already waited two months, I don't feel I should be pushed to the back of the line a second time when I already requested services in June. She just apologized but didn't offer to have anyone come sooner or to do anything else. So services were never provided. Their quality may be great, but it seems their organization and willingness to accommodate the customer is lacking.

At first, we were told that there would be a 3 to 4 month wait before they could do the job, which was fine with us because we weren't in a hurry. We were pleasantly surprised, then, that they were ready to go just a month after they quoted the job. They were SUPER detail-oriented, and treated the job as if they were doing in it their own homes. They came on time and stayed late to finish the job on time. The guys who did the stairs were particularly skilled and careful. They did a beautiful job. The price was about where I thought it would be, given the wood we chose, and we didn't mind paying for floors that should outlive us. If you do it right, you only have to do it once.

East Penn workers were professional at all times. They were prompt in arrival at the scheduled time each day. They were thorough in protecting all areas of our home from the dust of the job. Our floor plan is somewhat open. They sealed everything with plastic sheeting. This included all doors (even the upstairs bedrooms), the large open area to the family room, kitchen cabinets and also wrapped the entry chandelier in plastic. When the job was finished they removed all the plastic and cleaned up all obvious sawdust. They did an outstanding job in matching the stain to the living room and dining room floors so that it is impossible to tell where the floors were freshly refinished and where the floors were not done. Their pricing was competitive to other estimates that we received. We did find that communication with the front office was sometimes confusing or forgotten, but that was remedied immediately when brought to their attention.

East Penn was very professional from day one. From the estimate to the refinishing there was constant communication and they were able to work around our schedule. The crew that came was very professional and the floors are beautiful. The price was very fair for the job that they performed and in one case was almost half of one of the other estimates we received. Our floors were original to our 1940s house and were in pretty rough shape. They are now beautiful and we couldn't be happier, it looks like a brand new house. We would recommend them to anyone for hardwood floor refinishing.

This was a big job. Before the workers came, we had removed all the carpet, pulled out tacks, and had the upstairs furniture moved down to the garage. When East Penn Hardwood Flooring arrived, then, they had an empty expanse to work on. The first day was spend sanding. This created a lot of dust, but they had curtained off the kitchen and other entryways so as to contain the dust to the wood floor area. On subsequent days they finished the sanding, cleaned away the dust, and put down initial coats of oil-poly. Then a return visit applied the final coat. After this, we had to stay off the floors for a few days to allow drying. So, it was a big job that disrupted our routine for a week or more. But, the results were well worth it. The hardwood floor, which had been under carpeting for 20 years, was restored to a glory that we couldn't have imagined. The workmen left us with a new upstairs. We were completely satisfied by East Penn Hardwood.

It was one of the best experiences. I was not an Angie's list member at the time but a family member was and suggested East Penn Flooring. Jim G. came to the house and provide the quote. We had some weird discoloring on the floor that we could not figure out. I had another flooring company come out prior to Jim and he couldn't explain it. Jim knew exactly what was going on. He really knows his stuff. He told us that the cloudy discoloring was actually the type of polyurethane that was used and how it reacted to the direct sunlight. It was not the wood, as American cherry gets darker with the sun not cloudy white. The team of workers arrived promptly. They did an amazing job. They were professional. We left the house while the work was going on. We stopped in and the workers were so good at explaining the progress. They found some areas where the spacing of the boards was off. They actually filled the gaps in for us. They were very good about cleaning up the mess. Of course there is no way to be dust free when sanding 1000+ sq ft of wood, but they did a great job cleaning. The work was started and completed on time. No surprises. Not were they a great floor refinisher, they were the reason I joined Angie's list. I felt like if I could find that caliber of professional, skilled companies on Angie's List, joining was a no brainer.

Called the office to make an appointment for an estimate on refinishing and possibly installing flooring. Told I was going to be called the next day. No one ever called or contacted me. Saw on some previous posts that this is a problem with this company.
