About us

DS PAINTING is a small business painting contractor that has been working around the Eastern Pa area, since 2001. we do interior and exterior painting, staining, drywall repairs and some handyman services like carpentry work. I don't have many employees, so this way I can keep my over head down, out bid most of my competition and leave more money in our customers wallets . We are all professionals, on time every day, work 8 to 10 hour days, 7 days a week, and are all drug free. All of DS PAINTING services will be done by contract. fees will vary by different services. All contracts will have the details that are needed to ensure that the job is done, to yours and my satisfaction. Our customers come first. we come in, do the job and get it done right the first time. Over the years DS PAINTING has worked hard to be the best, at what we do. DS PAINTING is fully insured and gives free estimates.

so the job we did was one of the big deals 2 Painter for 7 hours $349. I asked what is was the home owner needed us to do she seid paint ceilings I asked is there any cracks. she told us 2 small cracks and she asked me to pick up $200 in paint so I did. we show up with the paint and found out there was about 15 large cracks on textured ceilings by the time we preped shaved down the texture of the cracked areas, taped, dried, sanded, and then figured out the right texture for the final coat it was time to head out. we went through 3 bags of quick set and a full bucket of spackle which we watered down so we could roll it with a 1/2 inch roller to get the right texture. I did ask to be reimbursed for the Spackle and paint. even though there was no time to be able to paint but she seid don't worry about it the house was already sold the cracks were what was important. as far as she was concerned there was no need for us to come back and the paint was left for the new home owners

Description of Work: DS Painting (Derek & Ryan) were simply outstanding. They called in advance to discuss what we wanted done, what equipment was required and when we'd like to schedule their services. They showed up on time, helped move some remaining furniture for us and covered everything. They fixed the drywall/settling splits we agreed to and even found a few more that they just simply took care of. Their edging around the 22 ft ceiling and windows was picture perfect and their rolling was a team effort with no streaks! Everything was cleaned up and the room was put back together in its original layout and the walls looked fantastic. |BOTTOM LINE: If you are looking for an average paint team to get some home project done, DON"T call these guys. But if you're looking for an exceptional paint team who delivers a painted room (or two)that you can be proud of for years to come, CALL DS PAINTING!!!!!

We are not used to getting a. B on Angies list but OK. When we left the job the home owner was really happy with the work and the job looked great. I always tell the home owners to take a look around before I leave just in case there is a touch up somewhere. And I never left a job that the home owner wasn't happy and satisfied with our work

Description of Work: I sent Derek an e-mail inquiry and he responded almost immediately. Shortly thereafter I received a detailed quote for drywall repair, painting and trim work to a finished basement and staircase. I agreed to hire Derek but then realized that I had forgotten the baseboard heaters that I also wanted painted. Derek agreed to paint those for the price of the original estimate with no additional cost. That's above and beyond! Derek and his assistant (cannot recall his name) started promptly every morning and worked right through until the early evening. They finished in two and a half days what would have taken me over six months of doing in my spare time. I will definitely contact Derek in the future for both interior and exterior painting.

Description of Work: I knew the price would be somewhat higher, as there was extra work that took 2 painters two days to complete. However, I wasn't told how much it would be until the job was done. I was shocked when it was nearly double! Also, had to add two coats to a few areas ourselves, as we found missed areas after they left. Also had to clean a lot of paint spatters off of appliances. The owner complained a lot about Angie's List and not making enough money. Plus, I was told I'd receive an emailed invoice, but haven't gotten it in the 3 weeks since. Otherwise did a great job.

Ok I ran the big deal 2 painters for 8 hours of interior painting. The customer wanted to have her kitchen cabinets painted for the big deal. This is not what the big deal was and it was not what I expected but ok i'll go for it. As we were emailing each other through Angie's list I told her that this job was most likely going to take more then an 8 hour day. She tells me by email that she hopes that i'm not one of those painters who runs the the big deal and milks the job to get more money out of it. This was upsetting. She then goes on to tell me that she watched a video on how to paint kitchen cabinets and felt that it could be done in a day. She seid that she would do it herself but that she's very sick and does not have the strainth. I was shocked that she seid what she seid to me and I still have this conversation in my Angie's list emails. I could have decided not to do the job and had a feeling that I may have some problems with this customer. I did feel bad that she was sick and wanted to help her. She did apologize to me. Well as I expected the job took more then a day. So my helper and I got to the job we preped the kitchen sanded and painted the cabinets, inside and out, the drawers, and both sides of the 20 some doors. We put 1 coat on everything the first day. This took 9 hours not 8 hours as what the Customer paid for with the big deal. The original color of the cabinets were a very dark green and she wanted them to be white. I told the customer it needed more coats I asked her if she wanted us to come back another day she seid yes. I told her it would cost her a bit more then what she paid for the 8 hour deal the first day plus materials since the deal was at a discounted rate the next day would be at my full rate. She agreed. The next day we sanded and painted the cabinets a 2nd coat some a third coat. I explained that because the original color was so dark that is was still going to need another coat to look good. She told me that she didn't want to pay for another day. That's fine but the job was not completed and i cant work for free. We work as hard as we could for the time we were there. Day 2 we work another 9 hours each not 8 hours. When it came time to clean up we cleaned as much as we could and then the home owners seid that they would clean the rest because the drawers and doors were still drying. Because it was so cold outside we could not paint the doors outside or in the garage so we put paper on the floor and painted them there. There was drawers and doors everywhere so we couldn't really move and give a good cleaning. When it came time to get payed I could tell that she wasn't happy with the price. So I charged her for 8 hours at my full rate for the second day even though we worked 9 hours each both days so the deal was $349 for 8 hours I charged $400 for day 2 I didn't charge for the materials or the other 4 man hours from 2 days. I tryed to be as fair as possible and did not think this was going to be a problem. I explained again that the deal was at a discounted rate and told her that Angie's list takes a large percentage of the deal. That was all I seid to her about Angie's list but On that note Angie's list has to pay someone to send out the big deal emails to thousands of there customer I think twice a week and that money has to come frome somewhere? Before I was paid and I left I made sure that the customers new that the cabinets needed another coat and that I didn't feel comfortable leaving a job that I felt wasn't finished I thought That $750 for 2 painters two 9 hour days was a good deal that inudes minor materials like tape, plastics. mini roller covers, paper and sand paper I know what other painters would have charged and it's much more then what I did. In our emails I gave her an idea as far as what the job would cost her if someone else were to do the job so she knows. For some reason every time I run the big deal there's always someone who's expecting the job they have for me to be done for $349. In the past I've had people who want there entire house painted for the price of the deal and they get very upset when it doesn't happen. I've been in bussiness for years now and realize that i'm not going to make everyone happy even though I wish I could. Well the best part about Angie's list is that I get to tell my side of the story. I get upset when I get reviews like this because i'm really good at my job and I take pride in what I do. This is my third year with angies list and i have received the supper service award 3 times 1 for each year because i do take pride in my job. And i will work just as hard to get this years supper service award. Other home owner and painters tell me all the time that they're surprised that i'm not charging more. My answer is always the same i'm not looking to get rich I just want to make it affordable for home owners. I wish that the job in question went better for everyone involved and i'm sorry the home owner feels the way she dose.

I would like to start by saying that the breezeway this client is talking about is a 40 ×15 car port attached to the house. She purchased a big deal off of Angie's list 2 painters for 8 hours $349 I didn't see the job until we got there to do the painting, All we new was that it was a car port. Before we even got out of the van it was obvious that it was going to take more then a day and this is why. The car port needed to be scraped and sanded inside and out and she wanted everything painted white the ceiling of the port was 4×8 sheets of stained wood with trim on all the seems that needed to be brushed in several times. Because the ceiling was stained wood it took many coats to cover it in white. We put plastic on the entire side of the house and drop cloths under the car port over the black top. We spent 4 hours of the day prepping scraping and sanding and another 5 hours of painting and cleaning up. We worked 9 hours and the client was only charged for 8. We worked extremely hard and as fast as we could while still giving a professional paint job. We did get the post, trim and stained wood painted with 3 coats of paint. All that was left was the outside of the car port which was only the frame, it was all scraped, sanded and ready for paint, it wouldn't of taken long at all. The home owner was not home while we were doing the project so she has no idea of what all we did for her. The home owners son was home and in a hurry to leave so he rushed us to clean up other wise we would have stayed to finish the job The paint was peeling off the car port and you could tell that it had been many years since the last time it was painted. We don't cut corners so if we are doing a job for someone it's going to be done right unless the customer tells us other wise. Because we prepend the job right the paint job will last for years to come and saving the customer money in the long run. I'm not sure who these painters were who told the client the job would take 6 to 8 hours but i'm also wondering if was that easy why didnt they paint the car port them selves? All I know is that the paint job was a lot of work for 2 people to try and complete in in 8 hours and we got close. I called the customer to schedule a time to come back and finish the little bit that was left, they didn't answer so I left a message. Never did get a response.

I sent the proposal out March 27th, at 10:02 PM and it went out on my end. today is July 21st, the day you sent the reveiw in and the first I have herd from you. I say this all the time, if you don't see a proposal from me, in 1 or 2 days, after I say you should have it, please call or email me, that's the respectful thing to do, not send a Reveiw with an F, 3 or 4 months later. I send out so many emails and so many proposals and I work 80 + hours, every week!!! I do it keep my customers happy and because I love what I do. I don't always have the time to follow up if you got my proposal, most people, if they don't like the price, they don't get back to me, even after I follow up. I see the email go out on my end ,that means you received it, otherwise it would come back as a mailer demon, which did not happen. It went to the email address you provided me. I'm sorry we couldn't do business together, maybe another time and i'm sorry this happened, I wish you the best and no hard feelings on my end.

Derek fom DS PAINTING showed up every day early and worked 8 to 10 hour days. The paint job looks so good and now I use my basement every day. He finished job on time and was very polite and professional.

I contacted this home owner and he Said that he gave me an A rating but for some reason it showed up as a B rating The job went very well and the home owner is very happy with the work that I've done. in fact he said that he has more work for DS PAINTING in the spring. this is the second job now that I have done for Herb Yocum and I look forward to working for him again. I have a lot of repeat customers and but not all of them are Angie's list members. for some reason the second review that Herb wrote about the exterior work that we did, did not show up as a review.
