Description of Work: Carpeted living and family room; installed composite tile in entry, hall, kitchen and bath. The workers were very professional and for the most part worked with us. The carpet is pre cut in Seattle and shipped down, so the seam in the family room was oriented the full length of the room with the seam in the center. You could see the seam from every angle. When we called about it they sent the installers out to check it, then sent one of their people to take pictures and verify that it was not satisfactory. Within a week of this inspection the installers were back with new carpeting; ripped out the first and installed the new with the seam oriented the right way. It looks great now and we are very happy with both the tile and the carpet. After seeing it in, we wanted them to install matching molding around the carpet to match that above the tile so the whole house would be consistent. We called several times, but Empire never returned our calls and the available molding in the hardware stores does not match; so we are not happy with that aspect. Something we should have considered when placing the original order.

Description of Work: We had Empire carpet install carpet upstairs and ceramic tile in out bathroom. Less than a year later, the carpet begin to unrave when vacuumed.. It took me several phone calls to get someone to come out and look at it.. The crew they sent out very nice but could not speak English and were unable to communicate when the carpet would be fixed. My husband and I both called the service department several times. I was told I would get a call back but never did and would have to follow up on my own. I also called their customer service line but they were unable to help. For the next several weeks, we continued to get the run around but were assured it would be fixed once they figured out what to do. A manager finally came out and took more pictures and told us we should clip carpet fibers with scissors prior to vacuuming! This is how this company backs up their product. I continued to call the service department and finally my husband called a regional manager to complain. Finally, we were able to set a date to have someone fix the carpet . After all this, they tried to charge us for labor. I had to threaten them with getting an attorney which I was frustrated enough to do at this point. When they came out to fix it they did not bring enough carpet. The installers are very nice and I felt bad for them throughout this whole process. Lastly, they wanted us to sign a release saying we would not complain to anyone about them! Obviously, I didn't sign it. I would agree with other reviews that this company is poorly run and they lie to you. The product is also very poor quality and continues to fall apart. The guys on the crew are very nice and I feel this company puts them in a bad position. I have never written a bad review about a company but I don't want other people to go through what we did.

Description of Work: I am not exactly sure of when we had the carpet installed but 2005, 2006, I think. Above the form makes one have to fill in something. To start with the salesman was a liar. After the initial visit I spent several days online learing all about carpet so I knew facts from his fiction.As we hoped to be selling the place sooner we wanted to pay less for carpet so figured it was poorer quality than we'd want to have, but seemed decent. We called back got him again worked out details and ordered the better more expensive pad. When installers were installing I noticed the pad wasn't the better one I had paid for but by the time I did much of the work was done. The installers were excellent though. VERY professional, a full crew came and had it done and cleaned up in no time. The instalation was the only good part of the deal although I am sure that was luck. To compensate for all the lying and pad I went through the local and finaly regional supervisors of that time and ended up with a refund agreeable to both parties.it was time comsuming to deal with but they were very nice However last year when I had it cleaned by StanleySteamer it came out horribly. It is such crud carpet we will now have to replace if we ever are able to sell and afford to move. I would never have this co. again. They did make good and installing excellent. Product and sales person were lies.

Description of Work: Originally had carpet installed last March. This fall we noticed that a spot was wearing. We had someone from Empire come look, take samples and pictures, and then explained the process of going over the issue w/ the manager. Because the carpect we had purchased was not in stock, our carpet was not only replaced totally, (though only one spot was wearing thin), but they upgraded our carpeting and padding at no expense to us, and we couldn't be happier. They scheduled when it was convenient for us, and we on time, professional, and cleaned up totally after installation. Would use them again absolutely!

The sales guy was your classic "traveling salesman"--friendly and talkative, slightly pushy. He didn't have a ton of options (I wanted berber carpet) and there were only 2 choices that fit my needs. Another sales pitch I didn't like was if I gave him a deposit today, I would get $35 off. I felt pressured to make the decision while he was standing in my living room. The only thing that I regret about not going with them, is that they provided next day installation and I had to wait 2 weeks for the contractor I eventually went with.

The sales person came to my home after work with samples and walked me through the process. She measured and gave me a quote that evening. The individuals who performed the pull up process were polite, professional and worked very hard. They pulled up old stuff in a long day. The individuals who put the new floor in were even better and really involved me and asked questions about my preferences when appropriate. The were focused on my 100% happiness. Over the course of the next 3 1/2 days they installed the new floor. They spent the last 30 minutes of each day sweeping, cleaning up and putting away. They reported on time each morning. The floors are beautiful. I am really happy with the service.
Description of Work: Installed approximately 900 square feet of hand scraped, engineered hickory wood floors. They ripped up about 400 square feet of maple floors and another 500 square feet of carpet. They removed all the nails and tacks from the old flooring. Hauled away all the old material. They installed new baseboards.

Amy was great. It was an easy process to choose and order. Carpet was installed in a few days by 2 wonderful gentleman. They did an awesome job on my stairs!! They took their time and I am completely satisfied. I hadn't read the previous posts regarding the company or I wouldn't have considered using. Perhaps they have better training now due to complaints.

I received an almost immediate call back from my request for an estimate. When I needed to reschedule our original appointment, George was completely flexible. He showed up for our initial appointment on time (after calling to confirm), and was friendly and extremely helpful in the process of choosing the right carpet. The next day his crew showed up on time and was extremely professional and quick with their work. We are extremely happy with the final product. I cannot recommend working with George and his crew enough.
Description of Work: George came to our house and helped us choose the best carpet (and pad) for our remodeled basement. He also helped us choose carpet for our stairs. The next day, his crew came and fully (and beautifully) installed the carpet in all the areas.

The sales person was nice, but he took forever! Then he lost our forms and had to come back to remeasure. The workers did not call the four days ahead of time to tell me when they were coming they called about 20mins ahead of time. When they got here I was informed that we would have to move a lot more furniture then the salesman told us. Being 8 months pregnant this was very hard for me. The workers worked very hard and did good work and were done in the two days they had. Although most of the closet doors they took off and put back on look weird or do not work right and the hallway door sticks now. Oh and for some odd reason one of my toilets stopped working mid-construction and when I had a plumber up to fix it, it turns out the water was turned off. No one here did that, don't know why the workers would, but I am out $90.

We kind of took their word for it that they was a part of Angies List, but, come to find out they was not. That really disappointed us. They did an OK job with the flooring, but, we were not too thrilled about the carpeting. They were on time, but, there was a lot of minor damaging to our house. I would probably not use them again or recommend them at high ratings because I was not able to trust their word.

The work started out fine but went downhill faster than I imagined possible. The whole job was a comedy of errors ranging from not having enough supplies to downright shoddy work that had to be ripped out and redone 3 times! They were very messy workers, we were stepping over trash in the middle of the floor all day long in spite of us picking it up twice! The first day was a 10 hour work day, the second day when they said they'd be done by noon, started at 7AM and the guy finally left at 9PM! We kept asking that he stop and come again the next day, he would say "OK" and keep going! We were exhausted!! The next day we didn't hear from anyone! I had to call them twice before someone finally talked to me, assuring me they would have everything taken care of and call back, which they never did. We had to arrange for repairs caused by their removal of the parkay flooring and then go thru another hassle to reschedule their return to complete the job.
Description of Work: Empire was to remove carpet in 2 bathroom areas and install laminate tile in the bathrooms, kitchen area and a small entry way. Work was to be completed the same day as carpet was scheduled to be laid the next day as promised by the salesman George Parker. I know things go wrong, "stuff" happens, but these people were anything but professional. Their communications were horrid and not just with us, but between their own departments and that only adds to the disaster we experienced.

The estimator arrived on time to review our needs. He brought several samples of laminate and hardwood products. We settled on the Brazilian Cherry. The installer thought the flooring could be laid over the ceramic tile in the entry way. The installers, two college students, arrived on time. When it came time to begin with the entry way, the installer called the installation manager and explained that their may be a problem with putting the flooring over the tile. The transition to the carpet would be too high. We then said we would not have the floor installed in the entry way. Later, the installation manager called to say that the company would not charge us extra for the removal of the tile. We agreed to go ahead. The front entry way floor ended up being at least 1/4 inch below the existing molding. They hid this with 1/4 round molding. The estimator would not give us a labor and sq. ft. cost breakdown. Full payment in advance of work was required.

After learning that this was an Angie's List Top Rated company, I called for a representative to come to my home. I was a little skeptical when the operator did not want to take down any information on the type of carpeting and color that I wanted, insisting that the van had "thousands of samples". When the representative arrived, I explained what I wanted and she did not have anything in the color that I needed (light gray/blue). She also got upset when I asked her the square footage, saying that it was usually never given as it would allow me to "shop" other stores. When she did finally relent and I checked my files, it was over 10 square yards greater than what I had purchased for these same two rooms the last time I had re-carpeted. She then said she would do some research and get back to me right after Christmas, as it was December 12 and she would need a week or two. It's now January 17 and I still haven't heard back. I went to Paulson's and found many samples in my color.

Overall, the time it took to come out to measure, show samples took way too long, about 3 hours, which is silly. The company also does window treatments, so I ordered one. The sales rep charged my credit card for everything that night, when I was only putting a deposit down of a few hindered dollars, she charged my card a few Thousand dollars instead, being my debit card, it put it over my limit. I was going to pay for the work to be done, after it was installed, who pays contractors up front? After 5 days of calling the 1800 number and getting nowhere, I finally got a hold of someone in the office and they issued a refund. I have never had so much trouble with getting work done. The product is okay, a little overpriced, but it's in. The sales rep and the company should work better and making sure, no mistakes are made. It was a really bad experience at the end. If you are looking for a quick install, then great. If you have a week to wait. Wait a week to get the carpet installed.

Salesman was on time and friendly. My choice regarding Empire Today is not reflective of him, but of their policies. Even though I called to schedule a bid and he spent more time in my house than any other carpet salesman, he was unable to give me a bid because the company ''didn't work that way.'' I had to either choose to work with them, and we would try to negotiate a price based off other bids, etc, or not. Yes they are a large company that gets great prices by mass purchasing carpet and yes they can install some carpets next day. But I was not happy with the fact that they based their prices off competitors only, not the best price they could give a customer. The meeting was a negative experience because of the excessive sales pitches and degrading of competitors, most of which I new to be false.
