We had an excellent experience with this company. Within two days of my filling out a request on the company's website, the owner was at my home drawing up plans for the deck. Within a week from that date, the deck was complete. The owner seemed to understand immediately what I wanted and what was within my price range, and designed the deck to those specifications. The workmen who constructed the deck were unfailingly polite and are excellent craftsmen. The finished deck and awning is exaclty what we wanted, and is the envy of our neighbors, at least one of whom has since had a consult with the company about building an awning for his deck!
Description of Work: Creative Fences and Decks designed and built a deck and awning in our backyard.

As described above the job went very well. we had a few minor questions/concerns in the beggining but Constantine was very reassuring in making sure we were all on the same page with what was to be the final outcome. I forgot to mention these guys cleaned up very well too after all was done.
Description of Work: These guys were great. Mitca drew out a rough sketch of our property and fence layout. We requested 8ft. high cedar "picture frame" fence arounf most of the perimeter of our yard. They were to also install a 10ft. wide swing in gate with alley access. The two men who came eary every day, Visalon and Malin, did an excellent job and what fine cfraftsmanship they put into our fence. Straight lines, solid, pleasing to the eye. Thes guys were very detail oriented. They also as part of the job hauled away our original delapadated fence that looked like somethng out of the apocolypse wth thick steel poles and chain stays, etc. They wrapped arounfd 10 feet of manor stone and continued an 80 foot retaining wall wall with a french drain along one whole side of our property. this whole job took about 6 working days. we are very happy with our awesome looking new fence. Every detail!!!!

The owner had no "creative" ideas for my rail. He didn't act interested, and spent more time trying to sell me a new deck, which I didn't ask for.

Response from Creative Fences & Decks Inc
This member's report is based on a phone conversation. She had another company look at her deck and she was just interested in comparing prices. Besides, installing new railing on a old decks is always a gamble. We are not able to warranty our work when using existing framing. New code requirements on railing post connection to deck frame are very strict, and for that reason our company is not very comfortable with installing new railings on existing decks. I asked the member if she would be interested in having me come out to look at her deck and railing situation but she declined. We are able to offer creative ideas for multiple types of railing systems when on location. It is difficult to provide creative ideas based on a phone conversation. The comments the member submitted are not even closely indicative of our company and the quality service we provide. Please take time to reed our other reports, especially the reports that pertain to work we performed.

Constantin and Mitica were amazing from start to finish. I contacted Creative Fences and Decks to ask advice about services to clean up our deck. We knew that we had an expensive hardwood deck but knew very little else. We wanted to find a business with experience in handling and caring for more exotic hardwoods. I was referred to Constantin who handles that aspect of the business for Creative Fences. He took my call on his cell phone in the car and told me he would pull over to talk to me, so I immediately felt taken seriously. He offered to come by and give me an estimate when it was convenient for me. He told me I didn't need to be there, he could just come by and take a look. He came when he said he would and I happened to be there. He measured the deck very carefully and gave me an estimate within minutes. He charges a flat rate per sq ft. He was very professional: polite, straightforward, extremely knowledgeable, and informative. I could tell he took great pride in his work. I told him I would be having the house washed and he preferred that I have that done first so that it wouldn't ruin the work that they would do on the deck. That made me feel reassured that he cared about the end result of the work they would do. He brought with him his staff member Mitica who would complete the actual work for us. This young man is amazing. He works extremely hard, has incredible attention to detail and he also takes great pride in his work. He cleaned the deck, sanded it, and then Constantin helped him seal it. Mitica then returned to paint our railing. He worked long, hard days, never left a mess, and when finished with the entire job, would not take payment until after he had finished cleaning up. Both Constantin and Mitica showed up when they said they would, called when there would be a minor delay, were easy to reach when needed, and they did the most spectacular job on our deck. We are thrilled. We had no idea our deck was so beautiful. It did not look this good even when we moved in 5 years ago. I will only work with them on our deck and if our fences need to be done, I know who to call. Constantin and Mitica are true professionals and I will highly recommend them to everyone I know.
Description of Work: Cleaned, sanded and stained/sealed a 970 sq ft deck made of mahogany that spans the length of our home and has been sorely neglected for the past 5 years. The work included the entire span of the deck, all railing, 2 separate stairways, and all decking sides visible from the yard. White railing was also repainted and loose planks were renailed.

I used Angies list to locate highly rated deck builders and had four bids. Mitika's was lower than the others (I bargained with him a bit). Each of the three other builders were very affable, but had constructed only one or two ipe decks each, so the choice wasn't difficult. Mitika arrived and gave a bid the same day I called him and was very businesslike. His crew was able to start two days earlier than expected and finished two days later than expected (due to rain). After initially stepping on a daylily, and asking them to avoid trampling the plants, they were very conscientious about keeping off the flora. You couldn't tell they were there afterward. I suspect the plants would've been fairly well trampled down by most builders. Cleanup after construction was very thorough and the deck a work of art.
Description of Work: Creative Fences and Decks removed two old decks and installed 292 ft.² of 1 x 6 ipe decking and 59 linear feet of elliptical top aluminum railing with horizontal stainless steel cables. Originally, the plan was to have two 11 ' x 10' decks, but on completion we decided to add a connecting section. Happily, Mitika and crew were able to add the connecting 11' section without needing to use additional supporting posts. In the photographs you can see that there are three boards (a 6", a 4", a 6") dividing the original and added deck sections, which look intentional rather than added on; this was John's (one of the builders) suggestion. The deck is about 9 1/2 feet above ground level. I chose ipe decking and aluminum railing, at Mitika's suggestion, since it is very low maintenance. (The deck will be allowed to weather naturally.)

Creative had done a fantastic job building a fence for us previously so we knew their workmanship would be superb. Mitica, Constantine, and their crew are professional, friendly, and true craftmen. Mitica provided us alternative materials but highly recommended ipe, a beautiful hardwood. Our deck is truly a work of art. They used countersunk stainless steel screws and installed a foundation and frame for the deck that is extremely solid and should never deteriorate. I invite you to look at my photos to see evidence of their craftsmanship, the beauty of the wood used, and the detailed design of the perimeter, the mitered corners, and the facia. They are proud to stand behind their work and will be responsive if you have any questions or concerns.
Description of Work: Creative Fences & Decks removed our old cedar deck and hauled it away. Their craftsmen then built us a beautiful ipe deck - see photos! After building the deck, they sanded it and applied a natural stain which brought out the warm colors in the wood.

Mitica provided the most professional off all the bids I had done for this job. Mitica came to the bid with his laptop and showed examples of previous work and explained his approach to this job. The crafstmanship displayed by this company it top notch. Unfortunately, they have the price to prove it. As many people have noted, the price line with this company is the only negative to address on this site, it certainly isn't their craftsmanship. Bottom line, if you have the money and you want a solid well built fence, this is the company. I ended up having to go with another company and the quality suffered.
Description of Work: Mitica came to my house and provided a bid for around 400 feet of solid clear ceader fencing. Unfortunately, due to the dispostion of my neighbors, I was unable to afford the work and it was not begun.

It was a phenomenal experience from beginning to end. We thought we wanted a composite material, but after looking at pictures and listening to Mitika's input we decided to go with ipe and we're thrilled. The tear out of our old deck went smoothly, the build went quickly. Our stairs were very tricky for them to design but they look amazing. We also ended up having them build us a table and extra benches because we know they'll last us a lifetime.
Description of Work: Tore out rotting 20 year old deck and rebuilt with ipe. Also designed and built complicated walkway and stairs. Also built a table and benches and an L-shaped bench.

Excellent. Mitica was professional, prompt, and respectful of our desired budget. His crew members were always on time, and did all of the work in 7 work days. His crew followed our design for the railing, stairs, and pergola exactly, and made suggestions when some details of the design would not work well with the materials of the deck being used. We are thrilled with the craftsmanship and the execution of the design aesthetic.
Description of Work: Demolished, and hauled away old cedar deck and rebuilt a 18' x 20' foot deck, using ipe and mahaghony. Refinished front porch and steps. Re-roofed the garage under the deck and installed commercial grade membrane.

What can be said about the Creative team that hasn't already been said in other reviews? They are wonderful. Mitica, the owner, promptly came to our house to bid the job; he was very friendly and quickly understood our project. He worked up a price that, after working out some details that related to the competition out there, came in with a quotation that was competitive. He (and his brother Constantin) is also a good communicator and insisted on making everything right. One company out-bid him, but the Creative team's experience with Ipe is extensive (whereas many other builders prefer to use composites which are not nearly as nice), and that made the difference for me. This is a very honorable and fair company, and they won't accept final payment until you are happy. During the selection process, I had looked at one of their big jobs and was very impressed. Their main Ipe guys are John and John. This 2 man crew were very hard workers that always put in a full day. They were thoughtful and moved slowly when the job called for it (because of safety on our site - requiring the need to tie off to the building), but the core deck replacement was done in just under 2 weeks! The entire job was almost 3 weeks (with railings and patio/deck roof, and assorted finishing details). John and John are truly the "old world craftsmen" types who could just as easily be building fine furniture. They were extremely conscientious in moving materials through the house (which was required) and cleaning up after themselves. I can't speak highly enough about them. The lead John was very friendly and always asked how the work looked; a very sweet man. There were several days when John worked alone and I'm still amazed at what he could do by himself. His attention to detail was remarkable. Mitica or his brother Constantin would check in with regularity, so it always felt like the big-picture supervision/coordination was there. At one point I approved an "up-charge" for the railing system, but Mitica said he would absorb it. A class act. And as for materials, they use the best companies (and some companies don't). As an example, all the Ipe came from Crosscut/Emerson Hardwoods. Finally, as you can probably tell, I'm a fastidious kind of guy and I like to be involved in projects at my home. As a homeowner, I've also done a fair bit of construction work myself (including deck-building), so I feel I'm fairly critical and expect a lot. I've never worked with people that were this honorable, reasonable and professional. Their experience and skill really showed. You might pay just a little bit more (which is why I nearly rated them a "B" on price - but decided I got more than I paid for), however you'll get what you pay for. I can't imagine how anyone that hires them would be dissatisfied.
Description of Work: Ours was a very difficult "high-wire act" (30' up) involving the total replacement of 2 decks (and the stairs between them) all on structural steel. Definitely not your typical job and not for your typical contractor. Just removing the old deck was difficult, and they did it ingeniously by preserving parts as scaffolding while adding new elements. They then set about reframing the entire structures with pressure-treated lumber (2X12s and 4X12s). I would characterize the framing as well-engineered (with lots of strength) and with the appropriate ZMAX hardware. Next, they installed 1x6 Ipe (Brazilian walnut or ironwood - an amazing hardwood) decking; they pressure-washed it to clean it and soon finished it by sanding and sealing. Finally, they installed an aluminum and glass railing system that also included an aluminum and glass roof over the smaller of the two decks (this last part was done by buying the materials from Precision Rail). Prior bids on the just the railing and patio roofing system were about $12,000 installed. The total square footage of the decks was just under 500 and the railings totaled nearly 95 lineal feet; the patio/deck roofing system was 132 square feet (8.5'x15.5'). See photos below (taken at various stages in the project).

They did a good job and it works really nice. The job was a lot of hard work and they a very professional job. The only trouble I had is when I called them for the job; the woman who answered the call got some things confused. I felt like there is miscommunication between the owner and his workers as they did not show up on the day they were supposed to. They showed at a time when we weren t home. Also, they dumped the left over dirt from the work in the french drains in our backyard, I was unhappy about that. I wouldn t have let them do this if I were home and if they had showed up as per the appointment. So on the whole, apart from the miscommunication; I m okay with the work done.
Description of Work: Several of our 4x4 solid fence post had twirled and twisted which made it impossible for the gate to close, so had to be replaced. They also had to install new latches on the gate.

WE TRY TO SCHEDULE FENCE REPAIRS AND SMALL PROJECTS BETWEEN LARGER PROJECTS. IT IS OFTEN DIFFICULT TO PINPOINT AN EXACT DAY TO DO A REPAIR OR A DAY PROJECT, AS WAS IN THIS MEMBER'S SITUATION. WE ALWAYS CALL TO LET THE CUSTOMER KNOW OF A SCHEDULE CHANGE AT LEAST A DAY BEFORE. IN REGARDS TO THE DIRT BEING LEFT ON TOP OF THE FRENCH DRAIN, WE HAD THE WORKERS RESPONSIBLE RETURN AND CLEAN UP THE NEXT DAY. I GUARANTEE SUCH AN INCIDENT WILL NOT HAPPEN AGAIN. OUR COMPANY TAKES PRIDE IN BEING PROFESSIONAL AND OUR WORKERS DO THEIR VERY BEST TO MAKE OUR CUSTOMERS HAPPY.

Mitica worked out an estimate and we negotiated a deal amicably. Constantine supervised the work and took care of all my questions and requested changes. The craftsmanship is absolutely top notch. I was a rough framer, cabinet maker, and general contractor. I have never seen such good work. The custom gate was built like a piece of furniture. It is beautiful. They are not the cheapest though. If the lowest price is your number one priority call another company. If quality is your priority call them. I felt the price was too high but I wanted what they had to offer, so I paid it.
Description of Work: Erected 50 feet of 6 foot tall clear cedar overlap siding with a middle rail. Built a 6 x 6 gate to match the fence. They also built an arbor over a custom made 9 foot gate. A sub contractor built that gate. Both gates were also constructed from clear cedar.

It was a very nice cedar fence. We had them build it close to the ground because we have two dogs. The two workman, John and John, were an absolute delight to work with. They arrived on time each day and worked a full day. The project was completed in a little over a week. They cleaned up each day and at the end of the project they cleaned up everything. Mitica, owner of company, came over once the job was completed to go over everything with me and to make sure I was completely satisfied. I couldn't have been more pleased with the outcome.
Description of Work: Removed and disposed of existing deck and replaced it with a new one. Job included new footings, two sets of stairs, and a bench in addition to the deck floor. Deck size was 608 sq. ft. Mitica Leonetscu, the owner, worked with me on the design and the cost and after several estimates we came to came to an agreement on the cost of the project. He never tried to sell me something I didn't want and he was attentive to the amount I wished to spend. This company is truly professional and very easy to work with.

From the moment that we met the two John's My wife and I new we had made the right choice of contractors. They tore the 2 decks down in just a couple of days, including cleanup of the scrap wood and nails. Then began the process of building the deck, which took about three and one-half weeks. They showed up early every morning, and left around 7 PM, working all the time with only short lunch breaks on-site. These guys were amazing! In the end, my deck turned out looking like fine furniture and I couldn't be more pleased. The craftsmen John and John also told me step by step how to sand and seal the surfaces of the "Iron Wood" Decks. Which I did and they look just great.
Description of Work: They tore down 2 old 600 sq ft deck and built 2 new decks including a deck 10 foot above ground that supported an 8 person Hot Tub. I found this company out of the Angie's List. Unlike the other three bids I got, the actual owner came out to talk with me to prepare the bid. Mitica was very professional and knew his business. I looked at several photos of his jobs and he was so passionate about his work that I selected him to do the deck over other "salesmen" who did not show the passion. I wanted a first-class deck and he convinced me he could build one. I thought I wanted the "composite" plastic type material because I thought maintenance would be lower. Mitica talked me into Ipe (hardwood), explaining how much better it would look and convinced me that maintenance wouldn't be difficult with this product. We also selected aluminum posts and rails around the deck. Mitica uses two-man crews, usually, so we waited for them to start, which was only a few days later than planned.

From the moment that I met George and his son, Alex, I just felt that I was in for something special with this project. They were wonderful guys who were "Olde World Craftsmen." They did the tear down in just a couple of days, and then began the process of building the deck, which took about three weeks. They showed up early every morning, and left sometimes around 7 PM, working all the time with only short lunch breaks on-site. These guys were amazing! In the end, my deck turned out looking like fine furniture and I couldn't be more pleased. They are competitive with other good companies, but nobody nowadays could do a better job than they put out. If you truly want fine work done and a deck that is a "head-turner", then just use these guys. I am writing this in late October because Angie's List said they didn't get the first one I sent after completion back in August.

At first, I was surprised at the bid but the cost of wood has risen considerably since the last time I built a fence (over a decade ago). I got 3 other bids and he was right in the same ballpark as the lowest three. My neighbor & I chose Mitica (and his brother Constantine) after looking at the reviews on Angie's List and seeing their portfolio online. Two weeks after the contract and 50% down payment was sent in, the 2-man crew began work. First day: demo'd old fence, hauled it away, set posts. Second day: built fence and rehung gates. Because my neighbor's double gate was heavy, it had a history of sagging. We'd asked Mitica if we could use 4x6 posts instead of 4x4 posts; he agreed and threw them in at no extra cost, a nice touch and one that will keep the gate hanging straight for years. The final product was clean, straight, professional, beautiful. They did everything they said they were going to do, in a short time (no pulling off to work other jobs), and they damaged nothing in the yard, careful to work around trees. My neighbor & I are very happy with the final result, and would definitely hire Mitica/Constantine again. They and their crews make an excellent, no-nonsense team doing high quality work.
Description of Work: 73' fence demolished and replaced. A single gate and one double gate rehung. 40' retaining wall added, hidden on uphill side of fence so I could see only the clear cedar fence (no pressure-treated wood view for me). Special conditions to meet: keep gap at bottom of fence to minimum so neighbor's small dogs would not escape his yard (a big concern for him).

Excellent. Timely, the workers cleaned up every day. Debris was removed quickly.
Description of Work: The company replaced 3 decks of about 20 years. They suggested use of ipe (Brazilian ironwood) instead of Trex or similar. We chose that option and are delighted. The deck construction workers were very competent, in fact, some details of the work look more like furniture building than deck building. One deck was a cantilevered deck from the master bedroom on the second floor. They provided some excellent railing options and we are very pleased with the result. We had previously had them install a fence, and were so pleased with the quality and price we did not look at any other bids when we had the decks done.

I thought Mitica was very professional, his portfolio was nice and he seemed very knowledgeable. However, another contractor came up with a more creative, and cheaper solution to our (somewhat weird) fencing situation. One of the reasons that Creative's estimate was higher, I think, was that they use only cedar posts, not pressure treated. I'm sure this makes for a great-quality fence, but it was fancier than I needed and added to the cost.
Description of Work: Mitica gave me an estimate on replacing my backyard and side yard fence. We ended up using a different contractor for this service.

Response from Creative Fences & Decks Inc
OUR INTENTION IN MEETING WITH ALL OUR POTENTIAL CUSTOMERS IS TO PROVIDE THE BEST SOLUTION FOR THEIR PARTICULAR PROJECT. I AM SORRY IN THIS SITUATION OUR SOLUTION DID NOT MEET THE CUSTOMER'S NEEDS AND BUDGET. WE PROVIDE A HIGH QUALITY PRODUCT AND SERVICE AT A VERY COMPETITIVE PRICE, AND ARE VERY DIVERSIFIED IN THE PRODUCTS WE OFFER. CLEAR CEDAR IS ONE OF MANY OPTIONS AVAILABLE FOR FENCE POSTS. P.T. FIR POSTS ARE A LESS EXPENSIVE OPTION BUT MORE LIKELY TO WARP. THE PRICE I PROVIDED THIS CUSTOMER WAS BASED ON THE PICTURES SHE LIKED AND OUR LENGTHY DISCUSSION REGARDING WHAT WOULD BEST SUIT HER NEEDS.
