Mitica came to the house within a day or two of initial call for design and estimate, which he was able to do on the spot including samples of wood and advice on choices. His estimate for the project was very competitive. It took about 1 month for the job to start. The work crew was very professional and respectful, clearing any unexpected issues or additional decisions with us. They were promptly on the jobsite at 8am and cleaned up the worksite before leaving at the end of the day. The quality of the design, craftmanship, and the details were beautiful. Any missed details were taked care of before the end of the job. The deck and arbor are really stunning. Very happy with work by Mitica and his crew. When we have future projects, we wouldn't hesitate to hire them again, and would recommend them to friends.

One thing that I like is punctuality and not only was Matica on time for the quote, but the workers were on time in fact arrived early to begin the work day.
Description of Work: Creative Fences removed an old front porch and deck and replaced it with a beautiful Brazilian teak unit. The work was very involved in that routing of the steps was required on several levels. Work was performed on time and clean up was accomplished after the job was completed.

From initial quote to discussing design options to final building and installation, working with a the Creative Fences and Decks team was straightforward and efficient. We were especially impressed that they completed the second day of work despite rain all day. Such effort and dedication was greatly appreciated. We are extremely pleased with the new gate and have received numerous compliments on it from neighbors and friends.

Mitica was very responsive and knowledgeable, and their schedule was about 3 weeks out. Our crew (one of 6 crews Mitica has) was headed by John, a friendly, hard-working man with 18 years experience building decks. Our finished project is a solid, professionally finished deck off of our second-story kitchen that included stairs to our lower deck. I was especially impressed with the great communication, and the fact that the owner visited the site daily. Even the skirting was painstakingly done to match the upper privacy screen. The entire project was done in 7 days. At first we had sticker shock, but we feel that we got a good value for our investment. Very high quality work.

I called CF&D (creative fences and decks) and made an appt for Mittica to come out and write an estimate. He brought samples of the composite material and also pictures of his previous work. Mittica wrote the original estimate and drew up the resulting sketch of the deck. We went with a deck that was 4 feet longer and 1 foot wider than what we originally had. He laid out the estimates "a la cart", he had prices for individual jobs and upgrades, i.e. lighting package, roof, etc. Easy way to tell where you money was going to. He took several measurements and tried to give us a good idea of what the deck would look like (vision). After some discussion and other bids, we went with CF&D for the job based on their previous work with other clients, their price was competitive and in line with other bids. Since we were installing a new deck during his peak busy season, CF&D was 3-4 weeks out from starting. They were also going to pour new concrete footings so a permit was needed from Washington County. They didn't start work until 5 weeks, not an issue as I was assured work would complete by the deadline I gave them, sept 29th. After keeping in touch with Mittica, I met Constantine, Victor and Constantine, the latter 2 of the 3 doing the install work. These guys are a class act, A++. I worked with the "Foreman" Constantine about where the materials would be stored and where the old deck material would be placed until its removal. All very clear and no nails were left in my driveway! The installation guys Victor and Constantine are highly skilled workers (A++++), excellent communication skills with the customer, showed up @ 8 am each day and didn't leave till 6 pm or later at night. They made sure you knew what was happening with the construction and any issues they were facing. Typically I would meet with them in the morning and understand what they were planning on doing that day. Each time I left for work I was confident the work was getting done right after talking with them. A+! It took 1 day for demo on the old deck. Then they started on the framing of the new deck and got as far as they could until the inspector signed off on the holes dug for the footings. Second day was more framing. The third day they laid the boards and did a "picture frame" on the outside, beautiful work and craftsmanship A+++. Many of the boards were custom cut for tongue and groove as to eliminate as many screws in the boards as possible. Only the outside boards have screws in them, all the others are seamless. Day four was installing the railing and support posts. Day five was more of this and also installation of the lighting. CF&D sent out another guy to do that install, in the end it?s excellent. The electronics for the lights in the deck railing posts plug into an external outlet near the deck and a photo cell detects the evening hours and will light up from dusk to 4 hours after then shutdown. Since this is a timer you can set it up anyway you want, good stuff. The deck install took 1 week, ~5 biz days, next came the stair case down to my lower yard. The stairs were composite material just like the deck. The framing was done in one day, and once again the first class craftsmanship was seen. Lots of custom cuts to get the boards just right and also tongue and groove were made for a seamless fit. Just awesome work by these guys. Landscaping of the stone pavers was sourced to another crew, I did not witness the install but the result looks great. Mittica gave me a couple of options and I went with an irregular shaped stone and the walk way turned out very nice. Since all this was going so well, I asked Mittica for an estimate on a Pergola I had been considering installing over my bbq's opposite side of the deck they installed. He gave me a quote of 4500.00 and the same crew would build it. After looking at some pictures and thinking it over, deal!, these guys are worth it. It took 2 days to install the Pergola, its beautiful, just what I always wanted to keep me dry as I bbq in the winter. In short: · Fantastic craftsmanship ? fine attention to detail and solid work · Met deadline discussed · Good communication In the end I am extremely happy with the work that was done and would recommend CF&D to my friends and family. Fantastic job. Very professional.
Description of Work: First job was for two fence sections & two gates. They were so professional, cleaned up and did exactly what I had requested. I thought the price was fair and the quality superb. The second job was a much shorter fence and a couple of years later. Three of my neighbors had great service from them so I utilized their skills and couldn't be happier with the results. I would recommend them again.

From the very outset, the company was professional, prompt, and competitive. But here are my two biggest compliments to Creative Fences & Decks: 1) the craftsmanship is outstanding; and 2) value – I really felt like I got my money’s worth. In addition, the team who actually built our deck worked very hard, in the hot son, and it was clear they were real professionals. I can wholeheartedly recommend Creative Fences & Decks. I give them an A+.

The quality of the workmanship was super excellent. One of the things I really appreciated was that they made the suggestion that we move one of the side gates closer to the front of the house -- which turned out to be a fabulous idea. The fence is more than beautiful, its stunning. I continue to receive many compliments regarding the fence from neighbors and other workmen! I should have posted this long ago, and am just now getting round to this. Mostly I decided to post because as I have lived with the fence now for a year, I am more and more pleased with this project and the value it has added to the home. I was also very very impressed with the work foreman -- who was super professional, honest, and great when ever a concern of any kind was expressed. I am very very hard to work with -- and this company met my standards for HONESTY, QUALITY, and PROFESSIONALISM.
Description of Work: Creative fences and Decks removed approximately 400 feet of fencing, replaced that fencing with a beautiful cedar fence that required quite a bit of engineering to deal with slopes between our 10,000 square foot yard and our neighbors yards. This meant that on one side of the fence, the posts had to be sunk an additional 2 feet because of a slope, and on the other two sides, they had to build retaining walls to keep dirt from sliding onto the neighbor's yards -- some of these problems were not apparent until we began work because one neighbors retaining wall was failing and rotten, and the other neighbor had dug out part of their lot to make a level patio -- necessitating us having to build a new retaining wall. They were great about coming revising the plans to suit these changes. Then, as we building these new fences, it became apparent we needed a retaining wall on our sidewalk to the back of the yard. They were super about responding to these added requests -- then because the work was so beautiful -- we decided to add yet another project, which was to have them rebuild our pool shed, and then to add a screen to the front of the house, and a new railing. they were great about adding all of these new projects. it was quite an extensive amount of work. Oh almost forgot, they also hauled away an old aluminum shed, and several rotted old rail road ties -- which were a super pain to remove.

I selected Creative Fences and Decks to refinish two decks and to make major repairs to a stair railing. I met with Constantin Leontescu and arranged to have his company do the work. Constantin was so professional and courteous in his interactions with me; he addressed all of my concerns and made me feel completely comfortable with his responses. I would hire this company if I ever need to have a deck constructed, any deck maintenance or repairs (no reservations - completely happy with the work).
Description of Work: The job was about 700 square feet of deck and railing. The surfaces were washed and cleaned, all surfaces were sanded including the individual rails, and the decks were then sealed with Sikkens SRD Teak tone oil based stain. Crew worked hard and did great work! The stair railing was completely replaced and what was very flimsy material was replaced with solidly constructed cedar railing system. Carpenters are excellent!

After contacting Mitica through Angies List, we received a very prompt response and estimate for repairs along with recommendations for the improvements we were considering. Mitica's estimate was detailed and he was quite thorough in his explanation of the work. Once we signed the contract, crews were mobilized very quickly and ahead of schedule to begin demolition and repairs. His crews were professional, courteous, and very hard working. They communicated with us every day during construction and were very responsive throughout the project. We made a few changes during construction including the addition of lighting with all the changes being handled without any issue and with very fair and appropriate change orders. The finished product exceeded our expectations and really reflects Mitica's commitment to top quality service and work. We HIGHLY recommend Mitica and his company if your objective is a top quality project delivered with exceptional service.
Description of Work: We hired Mitica's company to replace a column and beam that had been severely water damaged and were supporting a second story deck and roof extension. We expanded the project to include new decking, railing, under deck drainage system, under deck finished roof, and lighting. The work was complicated by the interim bracing necessary to support the deck and roof while removing and replacing main columns and beam.

I solicited several estimates to have my old (1980) deck removed and build a new one. My deck is two levels, about 1100 sq feet and 30 feet off the ground on the right side (about 15 feet on the left). This was a very challenging job in my steep backyard and a few companies said they just couldn't do the job. Mitika from Creative Fences and Decks came out and quickly drew up a plan that included several nice touches that others had not thought of. I had looked at several options for deck materials such as cedar, mahongony, composite, and PVC. Mitika showed me a sample of IPE wood and told me about its low maintenace. great looks, and long life. After reviewing the various bids, I chose Creative. They gave the best price for the value and I was impressed by their other reviews on Angie's List. I was not disappointed. After the permit was approved (which can take a few weeks in Washington County), they got right to work. The whole deck was removed in about three days, and they began laying the footings, which were much much larger and more solid than my old footings. They used top quality materials, from the 6x6 posts to the zinc and steel connecting supports. The three man crew was amazing and very polite, usually arriving at 7:30am and often staying until past 6pm. In about three weeks I had an absolutely beautiful two tier deck, with IPE hardwood and great looking aluminum bronze railings. The work was really top notch. The deck is solid, perfectly put together, without a single flaw I can find.
Description of Work: Tear down my old deck and build a totally new one. Two levels and about 1100 sq ft. They designed and built a wonderful new deck, including very solid cement rebar footings.

The team was fantastic. The work took longer than expected due to the weather and one of the fencers having emergency surgery. The fencer Ovi was considerate of our dog and our kids, and he had the unenviable task of putting up fencing while standing inside a photinia bush at our neighbor's request to stay off her property. The fencers cleaned up our neighbor's planting beds and spread new barkdust as a thank you for dealing with the inconvenience of having the fencers around. The fence turned out beautifully and there was a minimal cost difference from the original bid (about $200), as they unexpectedly found a part of the wood retaining wall had rotted and needed to be replaced. After the fence was built, there was one panel on a slope that we wanted extended12 inches higher and they discussed options with us and the costs involved. We came up with a plan that we were happy with and they did a beautiful job rebuilding the panel. I would definitely do business with them again.

I had been planning to do an entire rip off of a very large, 2 level deck. After 2 years of delaying, I finally decided to take the plunge. The deck had been installed by Rick's Fencing over 20 years ago and surprisingly, it had held up quite well over that amount of time. The original deck was all Cedar and it was showing signs of failure. Miticia Leontescu, the owner of Creative Decks & Fences, promptly responded to my email for a bid. In fact, he was the first one to respond as I had also emailed a few other companies. Miticia met with me the next day to go over the details of the job. Miticia quickly grasped what I wanted to do with the new deck. He also thoroughly explained the differences between using Cedar or IPE. One of my concerns was the amount of electrical wiring that was under the old deck (I have a hot tub). He was very reassuring that they would move the hot tub, be very careful with the wiring underneath the old deck and that I would have nothing to worry about. I was given the bid and I told them I was seeking out one more bid and would get back to him. The other companies either responded too late or canceled the appointment at the last minute. Regardless, I actually had already made up my mind to use Creative Decks & Fences about 5 minutes into my first meeting with Miticia. The crew, which consisted of Victor, Constantine, Miticia and Miticia's brother (also Constantine) arrived promptly a few days later. The tear off began and within a few days, the old deck was gone and the new construction had begun. It's actually hard to put into words what took place then. I've never seen such quality or pride in workmanship with these guys. From start to finish, it was outstanding professionalism! They always communicated with me any concerns that they had with my new design for the deck and not matter what the structural obstacle was, they overcame it. At the end of the day, everything was always cleaned up. The entire crew worked through rain, hail, snow, sun...you name it and they got it dished out to them. They never missed a beat. Actually incredible given the weather that they had to endure. Hands down, this is the company to hire to build your deck and/or fence. There actually are not enough words to describe how fantastic of a company this is. The money ended up being way more than I was initially planning on spending, but I actually got way more than I paid for with the quality of the wood, the craftsmanship and the whole experience. I know I could have found a cheaper bid but I would have ended up with a "cheaper" deck.
Description of Work: They did a total tear off of a very large deck and installed a brand new one with IPE and Mahogany. This also included a privacy screen.

Great!.. His crew are total professionals. Rain or shine-and it was mostly rain-lots of rain, they got it done; precision angles and cuts are perfect-the deck design was suggested by Mitica and I relied on his expertise for the most part. The cost was a bit higher than my other bids, but the outcome speaks for itself. There were some minor issues, but the crew happily took care of it. All debris was removed and the landscaping was returned to it's original state
Description of Work: Mitica and his expert carpentry crew demo'd my old deck and built a completely new 17X10 timber tech XLM deck with hidden fasteners; also including all new support structure and stainless steel cable railings . I also wanted a pergola and they built one mahogany wrapped. They replaced rotted siding.

The experirence working with Creative Fencing and Decks was fantasic from start to to finish. The guys do what they say and say what they do. Every contact is returned promptly, communications are continuous and always helpful. This was a big project that was kicked off right in the prime time of the summer building season: work started right when we were told it would and was continuously worked until finished. When ever there were options in the project to be considered (as always can be expected) they used a collaborative approach to coming to the best answer for what we wanted and true to their name were very "creative" at times. The workmanship and finishing on our project are great. These guys really care about the product and the workmanship and were totally worth the price.
Description of Work: Our old decks were way past the do date for being replaced. We worked with Creative to develop a new plan and design. We eventually decided on expanding the decks we have on boith sides of the house significantly (total ended up >1,400 sq ft) and utilizing a synthetic decking material. One deck is bacially at gound level and the other is off the 2nd story of the house. We put in stair cases and utilized an extruded aluminum railing system. All plans were put in place with assistance of an architect and the structures flew through the permitting process.

We weren't ready to make a hiring decision until about 6 weeks from getting a bid.By the time we were ready, and we had chosen to work w. this company, they were a bit backed up. After I signed contract and paid for half down on work, it took longer than 30 days for them to get to us. Once here, however, we were very impressed by their work ethic: Our team-Victor and Constantine were on time, clean cut and polite, got right to work and didn't seem to take many breaks; Worked hard several days in a row, though sticking to typical work hours (which we appreciated, since we didn't want to inconvenience our neighbors w. noise or traffic) until finished. The quality of their work was meticulous; we are fussy and had NO complaints or "issues" to be fixed afterwards. There were two hitches-- We had been told at the time of estimate that the team would put a platform or planks for us to be able to use front door & get to driveway. (Inside logistics make use of other doors inconvenient) However, the (very competent appearing) work team here knew nothing about it and didn't seem to know we'd been told that, or even how to do it. We were forced to stay in our jump down (3 feet or so) to muddy, sloped ground. Not good for work shoes, or convenient on work days. It was a pretty big deal to us, and we were surprised at the lack of communication w. Matica (whom we understood knew how to make decks, too) and his team We surmised that if we insisted on having it done, the very polite team would have figured out how to accommodate us but that it would have extended the number of days the project would take; so we let the matter drop but want to mention this disconnect between estimator (Matica) and team. The other hitch was that there was moisture under the deck on part of the house which resulted in additional expense. We were already paying a bit more than we'd hoped and weren't excited to learn they'd need to replace some siding. After they established the cost, we approved and they proceeded. My objection is less for the fairly modest additional cost than that I think the company is experienced enough to be able to anticipate-and prepare owners for-surprises. It was fortunate we were home or we could have had a problem. (timing was definitely an issue for us) However, we overall appreciated them so much personally, as well as the quality of their work, that we still felt overall very pleased; just perplexed with the Matica/team communication. Matica was competent, friendly and professional. We feel that the problem may have had to do with them being busy resulting in less than perfect communication. Knowing what we know now, we're likely to hire them again (esp if we get the same team!) and are hopeful that the type wrinkles we had this time can be avoided.
Description of Work: Matica came out to provide an estimate, and worked with us on pricing/design as the cost was steeper than we'd been prepared for. His assigned team was the same each day: Constantine and Victor (and a different Constantine was, I think, Project Manager; he came by to check in w. the team a few times). They removed wooden walkway from driveway to front door, step and railway (wood had deteriorated) and replaced with entirely new walkway (ipe wood), railway and new step which included a slightly modified (safer and better looking) design.

I explained what I wanted, and that I was talking to several companies. While the other companies simply gave a quote, Mitica suggested I rethink my plan. He had some good ideas. They were a little more expensive than some of the competition. They cement in their posts, and place the posts a little closer together than the competition. I was impressed with them, and they were able to do it earlier than the others. They told me it would take only 2 days -- and they did indeed finish in that time. Barely a week later, we had a tree fall and hit the fence. Fortunately, only one section was demolished. I honestly think one of the cheaper fences would have taken more damage. I called Constantin, Mitica's brother. He was there in a week, and a few days later had two of his guys stop by and fix it in an hour. And he only charged me $250, which included damage to the gate and fixing some rails on our existing deck. Very good quality fence, very good quality craftsmanship, and nice people as well. I highly recommend them.
Description of Work: Very old partial fence behind the house. We needed to complete it on both sides, and we wanted two gatesl. There was removal and disposal of a short part of the old fence, and installation of 6' high cedar (stairstep).

Once this projected started, things went very well. We discovered a discrepancy in the length measurement which was off by just over a foot from where visually the deck was to end, and the step down to a blacktop driveway required removal of blacktop to establish a secure footing. These were resolved with the end result being a beautiful deck, even better than i imagined. The workmanship was excellent, with wonderful attention to detail, meticulous measurements and accomplished very efficiently . I must acknowledge Victor and Constantine the men building the deck, they were excellent. We thankfully discovered the measurement discrepancy the first day, and although it did require some redo work, the correction was made without much loss of overall time to completion. As the project moved on Victor kept me in the loop on details, asking me questions on my preference in details of the project, curve of the arbor top and cross pieces, height of the bench, and clarifying questions on other details. They were easy to work with, arrived promptly everyday and, their daily and end of project cleanup was immaculate. I am more that happy with the result. Two things i learned from this project. 1) If timing of the project is important to you, ask for more specifics on potential start time, and keep asking, often. 2) Review all details of the project, with the original design/measurement person and the craftsman who will be doing the work, prior to the project start, ideally the first day, to assure any and all potential discrepancies are addressed and resolved, before any work begins. I am very happy with the end result and would certainly use this company again for any future project.
Description of Work: Deck replaced on the front of my house. A smaller old and rotting deck was replaced with a longer deck extending across the front of the house, with a stone inlay section, railing, bench and arbor. While the start of the project was a month later that I originally expected, from mid September to October 14th, and some discrepancies to the discussed length were discovered, the end result is a beautiful deck, even better that i anticipated. I could not be happier with the end result. Excellent workmanship, beautiful materials and a deck that will last a very long time. My neighbors have given unrequested comments on how beautiful it is and how excellent the craftsmanship. Mitica, the owner recommended ipe wood rather than composite, and although i was hesitant at first, he assured me it was a better product. I did additional research on-line with very positive information on each site i visited. He was correct, the result is beautiful and should last much longer than other materials.

Mitica did a wonderful job designing a solution for our problem. Everything was done right on time, even though we were gone during the final phase of the project. His workmen were professional and meticulous and the deck looks great.
Description of Work: Removed aging half-wall around perimeter of the deck, and decaying trellis, and replaced with new aluminum railing and wood privacy screen.

I decided I could do all except #2, and signed the contract, giving Mitica a check for $2,217.50, half the total cost. For #3, there was a gate in the middle of the back yard fence, with poles along the top of the fence for a few feet and then no pole. Mitica said the pole must have come off, and that he could replace that part of the fence with the pole at the top. A day or so later, I noticed that the fence design was the same on both sides of the gate, and that the part without a pole along the top was intentional, so I e-mailed Mitica to cancel that job. (I felt that, as a fence contractor, he should have noticed this.) After that, I realized that $1,785 was more than I was comfortable with paying for about 5' of ornamental fence, so I cancelled that part, leaving only job #1. Mitica was gracious about the cancellations. He had warned me that it would be about 4 weeks before they could do the installations, and it was done in the time promised. Mitica's brother Constantin came out with the crew to do the work, and they had supplies for both #1 and #3. I told him I'd cancelled #3 soon after signing the contract, about 3 weeks ago. He complained a bit that he had not known about that and had gotten materials for both 1 and 3, but he didn't argue about it. The crew did a very nice job of installing the #1 fence and it looks good, although it is a 6' tall fence, whereas the gate it attaches to and the fencing on the other side of the gate (that didn't need replacing) are 4' high, which looks a bit strange. This is partly my fault, though, as the contract did specify 6' and I didn't notice it when I signed. Constantin said they would send me a $717.50 refund on the $2,217.50 I had paid, since the work I ended up having done came to $1,500. They left the old fence and the unused new fence and poles in the yard for a couple of days. I called to ask if they were going to come back for it, and they had just done so when I called. I waited about 2 weeks for the refund check before e-mailing Mitica to ask about it. He replied that he had been out of town and was going to mail the check that day. I did receive it 2 days later. This is a kind of mixed recommendation. They did good work in the time promised and were reasonable about the cancellations and refund. I think their prices were reasonable, except perhaps for the ornamental fence. (I have no figures for comparison, but I did find someone who does that sort of thing as a hobby, who made an ornamental black iron fence WITH an archway for $999.) My only criticism is with the estimating errors (backyard fence and height of front fence) and delay in sending the refund. I would give an A on work, promptness, courtesy, and a B on professionalism and price.
Description of Work: I contacted Creative Fences & Decks after getting a list of well-recommended providers from Angie's List. Mitica Leontescu came to my house to do estimates on four separate fencing projects: 1. Replace rusted chain link fence along the road to the east of my house, $1,500. 2. Replace rusted chain link fence among bushes on the west side, $1,250. 3. Replace a length of chain link fence in back yard, $1,150. 4. Install a piece of ornamental fence in side yard, $2,635 with archway, $1,785 without.
