Stan Robinson and Brian Jarvis began Pacific West Roofing in 1980 with the idea that if we produced a roof according to the manufacturers requirements that we would always have work! A novel beginning with 22 employees and 36 years later, the mind set is still working as our company grows. We continue to train our installers to do it right the first time and we continually strive to be the best installers in the Portland Metro area. Stan and Brian are still running it and involved on a daily basis, even out doing repairs to keep a hand in the production side.

Beyond your Dreams. Were to me here at 8:00 am on date of tare and install the trunks started coming done the road, one after another, crew, trunk for tare off material, portable pottie, that the new material came. The job was to take at least three days and they were in and out ina little over two days, very clean, pleasant to deal with, clean up like they hadn't even been here. I saw them do my neightbors house just a re-roof in the pooring down major rain on a dark winter day and the crew completed the job in one day and cleaned up the next day in one hour. I got a lot of bids and I chose them and I would have not made a better decision.

We called Pacific West after receiving a quote from another company that seemed much too high. Matt Krill and his assistant/apprentice came out and couldn't have been nicer. They were running late, but let us know well in advance and were very apologetic when they arrived. They did a very thorough check of our roof and even our attic to check for leaks. They even put booties on their shoes so they didn't track dirt into our home. After their inspection they told us what they found and that we didn't need a new roof at this time, but that it would be a good idea to get one in a couple years. We also need some gutter repair, and they directed us to a company they trust to do the work. There was no hard sale, there was really no selling at all, just information. We don't need a roof right now, but when we do, Pacific West will get the job.

I went onto Angie's List on Saturday, June 11th. We had a leak in our roof and needed service immediately. I searched for companies that had 24hr Emergency service listed. I called and left a message and waited. An immediate response was needed as my girlfriend was flying out of the country on Sunday and I was flying out of state on Monday. I heard back from PWR at 3:39pm on June 13th. That is not my expectation of 24hr Emergence service. Very disappointed.

At the end of October I called Brian got a prompt bid for the work. I appreciated finding someone who would do minor roof work and gutters at the same time. I needed to get some overhanging trees cut away from the roofs beforehand, and as soon as that was completed, a workman was sent out right away. On that day my steep roof was icy, so he returned a week later. Communication was good--the one day I didn't get a message, I was having problems with my phone. The loose flashing was at the peak of my roof, about 35 ft up, and the gutters on the second story were clogged with needles. It took about 4-5 hours and he cleaned up very well after himself, hauling away the detritus and even blowing the sidewalks clean. He spread moss retardant on the areas where there was moss. I thought the price very reasonable. An excellent experience.

We got 3 estimates and this was about in the middle. We were comfortable with the salesman (Jack). We are confident we got the right kind of roof for our house. We got the CertainTeed Presidential). They came when they said they would, cleaned up when they were done and were finished around the time they predicted. I should never need a new roof again, but if I move and do need one, I'll call these guys.

They did an excellent job of replacing my roof. The project was done in August and September which is usually the driest time of the year but it was not. They did an excellent job of removing sections of the roof at a time and putting new underlying material up so the home was protect from rain. They had to custom build the soffit vents to fit under the eaves and they were painted to match the house. The roofers also put a lot of detail into how water would be shunted away from small nooks and crannies along where the roof and side walls of the house come together. The project took longer than I expected. Partly because of the weather and partly because the job was more complex than we anticipated. Their roofing representative works with you throughout the process so you don't get turned over to a roofing foreman. You get one point of contact which worked really well. They also put a lot of attention into how to keep the architectural integrity of the old house. They did a great job of cleaning up debris too. I found very little in the yard since the project was completed. The roof looks awesome and they did a great job. I would hire them again.
Description of Work: PWR removed my old roof and gutters and put up a new roof and gutters. The house had 1 layer of shake shingles and three layers of composite on an old Victorian home. All of the layers were removed and a new roof was put on. Sofit vents and an attic fan were also installed.

Everything went perfectly. They were able to accomodate me on a Saturday which i need as i work from home and couldn't have the noise from the roof while working and no one else was able to do the work on a Saturday. But it was a blessing because they couldn't have been better. Super pleasant person who took care of the roof as well as the person who came out to do the bid. Excellent experience. Also the price was very good. Highly recommend.

Before I launch into detail about my exceptional experience with Pacific West Roofing let me upfront say I would not hesitate at all to use Pacific West Roofing again. I could not recommend Pacific West Roofing any higher - you won't be disappointed! InJuly 2013 I had a friend stay with us who happens to be an architect. We had purchased our first home in 2012 and had noticed that the upstairs attic areas really heat up in the summer and that heat was permeating throughout our master bedroom making it impossible to cool. He suggested we contact a few companies and get quotes to have the attic properly vented and thought it would be about $1,500 worth of work. As members of Angie's List, we scheduled 5 top-rated roofing/ventilation companies to come out to inspect and provide quotes. Mr. Stan Robinson of Pacific West Roofing was by chance the first company we had scheduled. He initially looked in our attic and then walked the roof to inspect. His report back to us was to be quite honest frightening and unexpected. Besides the ventilation issues - our flat roof systems on the back of our house were failing due to many factors including substandard materials used, improper ventilation/insulation and not following building codes or manufactures recommendations for shingles etc. These conditions were not caught by our home inspector - although they easily should have been. Obviously,we were unsure what to make of this diagnosis and did not know if they were trying to up-sell their services (quote was roughly $12,000 as opposed to thinking it was merely a $1,500 expense). I spoke to my architect friend and he suggested we have the other companies out to have them look at the roof - but not tell them anything besides needing the attic vented - let them discover the problems on their own. All the other companies discovered the conditions within 5 minutes - which confirmed Mr. Robinson's diagnosis. After about 3 weeks of reviewing proposals and several repair methodologies with my friend we narrowed it down to 2 companies. Some companies gave us promises/warranties/strategies they could not keep or would not work, others did not understand the problem in its entirety and others simply threw out a price that was way too low to be taken seriously (the cheap comes out expensive). It ended up being no contest to whom we chose after we dug deeper. First of all Mr. Robinson understood flat roofing systems (specifically ventilation and insulation challenges involved with them) better than any other company we dealt with. Secondly - he was willing to talk directly to my architect friend and then adapt his plans accordingly. No other company was willing to do that. In addition, he was the ONLY contractor willing to write a letter for us to provide our attorney that we had retained detailing the extensive problems and violations with the roof. Also, and perhaps the most important, I felt from the beginning that Pacific West Roofing was the ONLY company that I trusted to do the work on my home. This defect letter proved instrumental in consort with other documents in obtaining a full settlement agreement against the firm who did the house remodel about 10 years ago - along with our negligent home inspector. We got very lucky - we were within 9 days of being out of the statute of limitations and being on the hook for the total cost ourselves. Due to the slow moving wheel of the legal system this process took about 2 months - and each time we neared our start date on the roof repair - we had to postpone it (at least 3 times) - and each time Pacific West Roofing worked with us to accommodate that. We finally started the repair work in Mid-November and could not be any happier with the results and the professionalism of Pacific West Roofing. Mr. Robinson is a great partner to have in your corner. He answered many (he would probably say if pressed way too many) e-mails that we sent asking for clarifications or adjustments or simply progress reports. He is truly an EXPERT whose passion for his work shows. As a side note - I would recommend for any home purchase to have a professional roofing company such as Pacific West Roofing inspect the roof in addition to a home inspector. As I learned the hard way, home inspectors know a little about some things - but not anywhere near the knowledge of what a roofing company does. And since it's the one of the most expensive/complex systems to repair - the cost of having a professional inspect before purchase would be minimal.

How'd it go? Well, it started off great. We got bids from four different companies and they were the only ones who came to our church to look at our roof and give us a presentation. They were very comprehensive in their details of what needed to be done and explained everything using a PowerPoint presentation to everyone on our committee. We compared "apples to apples" with all of the bids and after much research, we decided to hire PacWest to do the job. This is where the "smooth" part ended. Our contact with the company took a vacation for a few days after the job started and that's when things went haywire. Communication broke down. Crews didn't show up when they were supposed to. Our job was delayed while they went and worked on other jobs. When he got back from vacation, he jumped back in and saw that the job got completed. We were told the job would take 1.5 weeks to complete from start to finish. By the time it was all said and done, it took almost 3 weeks. That was very frustrating. The upside is that I believe we now have a roof that will last us a very long time. The quality of the materials they used looks very good (I'm no roofing pro, but all of the seams look good and all of the flashings seem to have a good seal). I need to add that our church has a pretty flat pitch to it, so we went with a rubberized membrane as opposed to a asphalt solution. I've been asked if I would use them again. That's a tough question to answer. Knowing what I know now, the answer is probably yes. They care about what they're doing and are sincere in their approach to the job. What broke down for us was their poor communication and not keeping me up to speed with the schedule. I was the one calling them to find out what was happening and I think it should have been the other way around. I kept hearing about how busy they were and that was the reason for the delays. I would never say that to a customer. Build a realistic schedule based upon the jobs you have and then stick to it. I would have rather had our job start a week or two later and had it done on schedule than to have it take twice as long as it should have. I would have given them better marks and felt better about the job if it had gone smoother.
Description of Work: They provided our church with a complete tear-off and replacement of our flat roof.

I can't remember exactly when they came out but I do remember thinking I need to leave them a great review! I called, they came out, worked within my meager budget and did a great job. The gentlemen who performed the actual work went over what he was going to do and suggested something a little different than what was originally planned and it was better for our needs. So so happy with his professionalism. I will definitely call them again when I am ready to replace the rest of the gutters. What I really appreciated was that they didn't pressure me at all about replacing the gutters completely. I didn't feel like I was wasting their time with a smaller job. I highly recommend Pacific West Roofing.

I asked for and received a bid in the Spring of 2013, but was not prepared to have the work done until later. They told me they would still honor the bid when I was ready do have the work done at the end of August. Made it onto their schedule in Mid-September. Their worker showed up promptly on the morning scheduled, checked in with me and got straight to work. He was very courteous and efficient. Also made sure to get in contact with the neighbors, as he wanted to let them know that he was going to be pressure washing moss off of my roof which might over-spray onto their house and he would be sure to gently wash off any debris from their house. Which he did. Also did a great job of cleaning up around my house. Overall, I am very pleased with the work and quite impressed with the worker. I thought the price was very reasonable for the work done. These folks will be at the top of my list to call back for future work.

Stan is very nice, has a reputable business, and is very responsive to answer phone calls and emails. He also had referrals for painters and other contractors that are on his personal brochure of businesses he refers. Of course, these people are all tied into each other. So, you have to hope all goes well with all of the contractors if you have several of them doing work on your home. His price was very reasonable, but he left off of his bid all of the gutter work. He told us if he left something off of the bid he would "eat the cost." We didn't hire this company at this time because we clicked better with another roofer. We wouldn't rule Pac West out in the future if we needed roof work. However, we are happy with the company we hired and would go to them first. Also, the company we hired was able to start in August. Stan's company couldn't start this job until Sept.
Description of Work: Provided a bid to take off one layer of shingles and all of the plywood including the eaves, replace all of the previous, repair a drooping eave, put in ridge vents, replace current bird block vents, add 30 more bird block vents, replace all pipes, gas stacks, install 4 stem vents for fans, install one permanent roof anchor, remove and replace all gutters, remove cardboard bird block baffles and replace with foam baffles.

Member, Thank you for your comments. To be clear, the contractors I refer are not "tied to me" these people are reputable companies and I hold them all accountable because it's my reputation that gets hurt if they don't perform well. As for the permit, I would be buying a permit I just don't list everything that a job contains and I have not had the opportunity to communicate it to you since our conversations have been few and far between. As to "eating the cost" I was referring to the additional gas pipe flashing your husband says you have, not the gutters. I'm sorry for any confusion I may have caused you but if we had the chance to communicate further, these items would have been flushed out in our conversations and I would hope you would have found us to be the company you were looking for. I wish you good luck with your project and I enjoyed meeting both of you! Stan Robinson

Matt the estimator and project manager came out and thoughly investigated the condition of the existing roof. He spent twice as much time looking over the situation as the previous company. I appreciated this, as he caught several things that need repair the the first company missed. His concern for my needs and well being were very apparent. He wanted to make sure the job was do right. Pacific West Roofing's quote was not the cheapest, but the quality and attention to details made me comfortable that I would get the result and the peace of mind I was looking for in a roofing company. They were able to squeeze me in between other jobs and completed the job ahead of schedule. The workers of the job were very professional and careful with all aspects of the job. Upon completetion Matt came back out to make sure the job was done to my satisfaction and any issues were resolved. I would recommend their company without reservation.

My wife and I were in the process of selling our first home, and a roof replacement was part of the final negotiations. Stan was recommended by my realtor, and I called him after doing my own research too. And I'm glad I did. At every step of the negotiation Stan was professional, polite, and prompt. He replied to questions by phone or by text always during the same day, often instantly. He wasn't our cheapest bid for the job, but he was the best person to work with, judging by not only my gut feeling but the honesty with which he addressed my questions. Feeling generous, because we loved our former house, I actually spent extra hundreds of unneeded dollars to upgrade the roof on the house, and Stan joined the positive bandwagon too, doing some touch-up, non-roof painting for us too. It's rare, in my experience, for a customer AND a company to throw in freebies just for the sake of doing so. But we both paid it forward, and I'm overjoyed that we did our work with Stan.

Brian Jarvis with Pacific West Roofing came to our home to provide an estimate of work they'd recommend for our roof. Once at our house, he let me know that ours wasn't a home they'd normally due work on due to the fact that we had EFIS as part of our siding (not an uncommon issue). Nonetheless, he still checked it out for us and gave us a general assessment of the work he thought we needed - at no cost. He took the time to give it a thoughtful assessment, and was very professional. Later, when I called and left a message at their office to ask a couple of follow-up questions, he called me back within 24 hours and answered my questions--even though he wasn't expecting any work from us. To me, this speaks highly of his professionalism and integrity.

We received several proposals for a complete roof replacement. The proposal that we received from Kenny Courtney with Pacific West was the most complete and included several options for choice of shingles, ventilation etc. Kenny was a big factor in our decision, he promptly answered any questions and supplied any additional information that we needed. Our roof was a large job and Kenny said he would request a double crew so that it could be completed in a week instead of two. He came out and introduced us to both of the supervisors and the crews. They were here each day on time and worked long days, cleaned up each night and completed the job in a week. We are very happy with our new roof and would definitely recommend Pacific West Roofing.

I can't recommend Pacific West enough. The were professional and fast. It's obviously a well organized business. Stan was very careful to explain all the options.
Description of Work: We first called Stan at Pacific West when we discovered a leak in our family room back in Dec. Stan came over and had his crew install a tarp. Stan carefully explained the problem and described the options open to us. We chose to replace the old roof. They did a "stop gap" repair. On the first "good" weather day his crew came in, tore off the old roof on the lower section (the one that leaked), and replaced it in one day. After they left you could hardly tell they were there. The place was clean and the lower roof was new. A couple months later we had them complete the job on the upper section. Again, they came in and completed the job in one day. Again they left the job site very clean. The job looked fantastic. The next week, Stan came to do the final inspection.

This was one of the best experiences I have had with a company doing work on my house. Kenny Courtney provided the estimate and provided literature on the roofing membrane as well as showing me a sample of the membrane. I really appreciated that Kenny walked me through the process and made me feel comfortable with the new roofing material and Pacific West Roofing's process. Once I received the estimate and accepted the contract, Kenny was able to schedule our roof quickly with one of their teams. Throughout the process, Kenny kept me up to date on the team's work and the timeline. The team was efficient and extremely polite and respectful. They asked if they could move some of our plants and were very careful during the process. The left the site clean with hardly any signs that an entire garage roof was removed and replaced. I can't recommend Pacific West Roofing enough. They were fantastic.

Project was a good experience from the beginning. The sales person we had, Jack was very knowledgeable about roofing and very informative. Once we chose Pacific West to do our roof we were put right on the schedule and they were out here within two weeks. The Office staff were very polite, helpful, and good about keeping us informed about the start day and time. Once the project started we encountered rain showers and the crew was very good about not leaving a lot of unprotected roof sheeting exposed. Basically took two days for them to complete entire job. Our crew leader we had (Hector) had his truck stolen from his house the start of the second day of our project with all his tools inside. Our salesperson gave me a call that morning to let me know what had happened and to let me know that they would be delayed getting here. Under the circumstances I wouldn't of blamed them if nobody showed up that day, but about noon there they were working away like nothing had happened. They completed everything they said they would do in the bid and used quality materials. One reason I chose them was because they replace everything leaving nothing to fail on you down the road. Clean-up was superb, like no one had even been there, especially the nail pick up which I appreciated. After the project was done, Jack came back out to do a walk through with me to make sure everything listed in the bid was done and to make sure we were happy with the roof. I ended up needing four sheets of plywood replaced which they set aside and were easy for me to see that they indeed needed replaced.
Description of Work: I hired Pacific West Roofing to do a complete tear-off of two layers of 3 tab shingles, replace whatever plywood sheeting was bad underneath and install a new composition roof with a Shinglevent ridge vent system.

All members of the Pacific West Roofing team were extremely professional, punctual and easy to communicate with. They managed my expectations and were forthcoming about all costs and forseeable problems. No surprises! I would definitely recommend them.
Description of Work: We had a leak in the roof that was dripping in through the dining room ceiling. A large section of the roof was replaced and new flashing was installed in three areas.

We got seven bids. One was quite low due to use of inferior materials and one was very high because they wanted to (unnecessarily) re-engineer the roof for better ventilation. The other five bids were within about $1000 of each other. We chose Pacific West because of good reviews on Angies List and Better Business Bureau - also, they could schedule the work to be done within our time frame. The crew did not show up when they were scheduled and did not communicate a change. I called Pacific West and rescheduled. The day before they were to scheduled to arrive the second time, Alton (project supervisor) called to delay again. Third time was a charm. The crew worked hard and efficiently. The crew reported a faulty attic fan and Alton purchased a new one. The crew cut an opening for a new skylight and installed it. They did a quality job installing the new roofing, associated metal valleys, flashing, et cetera, and the sub contractor did a good job with the new gutters and downspouts. Problems ~ 1] Besides scheduling, Alton was always late for appointments. 2] The new attic fan had a humidistat/thermostat, and as a result, ran continuously because - we live in humid Portland. It sounded like we had a non-stop blender in the attic above the master bedroom. 3] Alton verbally stated that the new skylight would be "sheetrock ready". It was not. They did not cut out and block around a roof joist or remove the insulation and interior sheetrock. 4] Alton commited to replacing a piece of rotted exterior trim, but that was initially not done. Solutions ~ We called Brian the co-owner about problems 2, 3 and 4. He made a trip to our home on the same day and listened to the new attic fan. He had it replaced with a quiet thermostat controlled device. He noted on the contract that Alton committed to replacing the trim so he had a couple of carpenters do that at no additional charge. Alton vehemently denied his commitment to providing a "sheetrock ready" skylight. So rather than get into an argument, Brian and I split the cost of preparing the skylight for the addition of sheetrock. (Alton stated in front of Brian and me, "Sometimes I have trouble remembering.") Even with the problems, Pacific West did a nice job on the roof and made honest and timely efforts to solve the problems. I would use them again...but with a different project supervisor.
