Wonderfully. Delivered on time at a reasonable price.
Description of Work: Ryan refinished an oak table top that had been mistreated over time. The result was breathtaking - the original grain and glow of the wood was restored.

Just for the record, the $500 in charges included--in addition to refinishing the table--fixing two breaks on a bed frame, touching up a chair, and pickup and delivery. That not withstanding, I appreciate her kind review.

Excellent job. Most of the blemishes were dirt or skin oils and came off readily with fine grade steel wool and detergent. No refinishing, per se, was needed. Very skilled and effective.

Ryan is a true professional! He is courteous, confirms appointments, and is flexible. He did an amazing job on the leg of a double dresser that was snapped off in a move and a bottom brace bar on a dining room chair. No evidence of the repair, beautiful work!!

My wife had inherited an heirloom cedar chest we wanted to pass on to our granddaughter. It had been 'antiqued' with cream colored paint in the 1950's covering the beautiful mahogany wood. Ryan restored it completely revealing the beautiful grain of the wood. it is now an heirloom we can proudly pass on to the next generation of the family.

The results were beautiful and the cart was ready for pickup in a week. Mr. Poulton initially discussed with us the least expensive method for refinishing the project, to which we agreed.. I really appreciated that.

We are very pleased with the thoroughness, care, and craftsmanship of Ryan's work. With only having Angie List references to go by (rather than a referral from a friend), we couldn't be more pleased. Ryan refinished two heirloom dressers. He offered a clear estimated cost of the work, and accurate estimates regarding when he could schedule and finish the job. One piece required some creative fixing; his work-around looks better than the original design! We would use his services again in a heart beat. It is obvious that Ryan is a craftsman who takes great care in the quality of his work. His knowledge of wood and his craft makes him a reliable source.
Description of Work: Ryan contacted me by phone through my Angie's list contact. We discussed the two pieces of heirloom furniture to be refinished. I sent him pics of the pieces for him to better assess the scope of the work. He then contacted me with a complete estimate of the work to be done. We arranged a time and delivery. The work was done on time. We are very pleased with the result. Ryan spent a few moments discussing the completed work and continued care needed for the refinished dressers when I received the finished work. .

I left a phone message and it took Ryan a few days to get back to me. He described options for pick-up or drop-off of the items to him. He correctly forecast his availability to do the work as 1.5-2 weeks out and said he would call me back to finalize a date, which he did. I took the chairs to Ryan's. After assessing the chairs, Ryan offered me two options for repair. One was less expensive, but I opted for the more expensive and more robust option. It only took a day or two for the repairs to be complete and I was satisfied the work was done as promised. The chairs are solid now.

This was a very involved job. Ryan had to piece together a coffee table as described above. On another, he shortened the table which was difficult in that the legs were all turned, so he had to be very precise. Then he had to make all of them match in color. This was done beautifully, and wonderful job. He was prompt, called with questions and made sure our direction as to what we wanted was specific. He kept us informed along the way. He actually was a miracle worker on the reconstruction jobs, not many people could have done that.

We contacted Ryan through Angie's List because we were very impressed with all the positive reviews. Over the course of five or six months we had Ryan refinish a number of family antiques, some pieces dating back to the early 1900's, others hand-made my my spouse's father and grandfather. All items had significant personal value. Ryan's care and interest reflected our concerns and desires and truly impressed us. Ryan could not have done a better job! Ryan came to our home to bid the job and reviewed all the items we wanted done (nearly 15 pieces were involved.) We made a list and Ryan priced each piece so we knew what costs were involved. (As we got further along in the process, this list became invaluable to help us jog our collective memories on what was to be done with each piece.) During his initial visit, Ryan made specific recommendations and, in a couple of cases, suggested less expensive ways of treating some of the pieces. He evidenced real care in his suggestions, both with an eye to the work necessary, and his management of the overall budget for what we wanted done. We had him work on a few pieces at a time, both so we would not overwhelm his work for other clients and so we could spread the work over a period of time. In a couple of instances, Ryan transported the pieces himself, in other instances he had me bring the smaller pieces to him. There were also a couple of very large pieces that he was able to repair "in place" at our home. Ryan maintained regular contact with us and did an excellent job of communicating issues he discovered as he worked on each piece. In summary, Ryan Poulton did an excellent job at exact;y the prices agreed upon. We highly recommend Ryan and would not hesitate to work with him in the future.
Description of Work: Refinished a number of antique furniture pieces. PLEASE NOTE: the price above represents work done on the last few pieces in the project. The budget for the entire refinishing project was in the $4000 - $5000 range and each component came in exactly as Ryan had bid.

I called him in the evening and left a message. He called me the following morning and was very willing to share several suggestions on how I could repair this rocking chair. - even though he did not do that particular type of work, he helped me with ideas of whom to call. He is just the type of person I would love to work with in the future.
Description of Work: He did not do the type of work I needed to repair an antique rocking chair, but was very very helpful in making suggestions of various people to call. He was really nice and I would certainly use him to repair any wood furniture that needed help. thank you

When I delivered the two chairs to Ryan, they were wobbly and needed to be stabilized. I picked them up the following week and they were as stable and solid as the day I bought them 30 years earlier. I called Ryan about the top of our distressed wood kitchen table. While the wood itself was in good shape, the finish had developed an uneven, dirty appearance. He was great over the phone, and we agreed that he would pick up the table. He gave me a good idea of what he would be doing, and the results I could expect, before taking it away. Though I must admit, I was a bit nervous seeing my table leave in the back of his small pickup truck. I picked up our table top a few days later. He did not have to do a complete refinish, but polished out blemishes and lacquered the top. He told me to expect about 90% from that process, and I'd say that's about right. I'm pleased. The finish on our table top looks clean and feels smooth again. Ryan gave me a good education about the process and options. And how the table had attracted air born grease which had built up over the years, contributing to it's condition. He did a nice job on my table top, for a quite reasonable fee. I would use him again.

First, we had used Ryan approximately 15 years ago and swore we would never forget his name at that time. Well time has a way with things! Then we searched Angie's List, and we we're so delighted to find that he came right up on the top of the list. We again knew that we had the right person to do the job that we needed done. My wife and daughter purchased a baby changing table with drawers for a very close friend, and sure enough because of where it was manufactured, it had problems. We did not have the time to return it, so we turned to Ryan, with whom we already knew could fix it. He gave us an accurate and extremely fair quote, as well as a due date that he would have it done by. Because the baby was due on Friday, he committed to Thursday, and YES he had it done on time. The work that he performed made the cabinet look better than new. Ryan also spent what I know was a significant amount of time over and beyond for the portion he charged for repairing the drawer glides (they barely opened). It really helps when someone you turn to has the knowledge about furniture and the way it should work. He took care of it just as if it were his own. Ryan absolutely earned and deserves a glowing review. He takes the time to educate you on what needs to be done, makes sure you understand what the cost will be, and does what he say's he will do. We will use Ryan again!

Response from In-Home Furniture Repair and Refinishing by Ryan Poulton
Although I appreciate the lady's kind words, the "B" in pricing requires clarification (my only B in over 40 reviews). Here are the facts: the armoire had a large chunk missing, which was their reason for contacting me. When I arrived, she was gone so her husband directed me. On closer inspection of the armoire he found seven or eight other small flaws, which he requested that I fix. I spent most of the afternoon performing these repairs. Ultimately, the lady returned home as I was finishing up. She focused on the missing chunk (now no longer missing) and was very happy. However, she was unaware of the other repairs ordered by her husband, hence some additional charges. My hourly rate for on-site repairs is less than half that of the average plumber.

Ryan contacted us right away to come out and take a look at a scratched table top where our 8 year old had scratched artistic designs into the wood! He arranged to stop by and give us a price estimate and completed the work when promised. We chose to do the less expensive color fill instead of the full refinishing of the table top since it's a homework table for our kids. Ryan was meticulous in his work, you could tell it bothered him that he couldn't make it perfect since there were still going to be indentations left in the wood since we were only doing the color fill. He did a great job and the table looks great! We would definitely use him again!

I wish I could give a A++++ Ryan totally transformed 4 pieces of furniture back to new ! Our darling one year old Boston had chewed 3 peices of new Ethan Allen furniture . Ryan worked very hard to repair them and honestly we cannot tell it had been damaged. They were: the corner of a coffee table, the lower lip of a nightstand and the leg of the dining room table. He meticulously repaired each item and matched the paint like an artist. He is clearly a perfectionist and did his absolute best. The fourth item was a stool that had accidentally been knocked over and the arm cracked. He repaired that as well.Ryan worked from 10:30-6:00 without a break! He surely could have charged me more considering and the job was more extensive than anticipated but he honored his quote. He was careful with cleaning up too. I cannot even tell that he was here all day repairing furniture. He is very hardworking, professional and clearly takes pride in his work. I will be calling on him again if the need arises ( or my Boston strikes again) and I will refer him as well to anyone I know that could use his services.

Ryan performed a miracle. Our 1 year old puppy chewed a big chunk out of a very expensive armoire in our bedroom. I didn't think anyone could fix it. I was wrong. I contacted Ryan after finding him on angies list and he came to the house to fix it after I sent pictures via email to him. He is a master craftsman. Our armoire doesn't show any indication of the damage or repair. It looks beautiful again. He matched the color of the wood and the finish beautifully. I am so grateful for his talent. He was very reasonable and obviously takes pride and enjoys his work. I highly recommend him!
