Ryan was awesome to work with. Punctual--called each day before he came. Not only did he come in exactly as quoted--he deducted for two chairs because they didn't take him as long as he thought. He was methodical and meticulous. I would (will) definitely use him again!

Wow. Great!. Ryan asked a lot of questions before he came out so that we both had clear expectations. He quoted me what the cost for each item was. He did a beautiful job of fixing a large chip in the door of the bookshelf and and replacing piece that had come off of the crown. You would never know either of these had been damaged. He also repaired loose boards on the drawer of the base and put in missing boards to stabilize the crown. In addition he worked with me to discuss options for refinishing the wood on 2 chairs before I have them reupholstered. He gave three several options and prices and recommended the least expensive, because it provided the best color match with out spending a huge amount of money. (He explained that mahogany shows different colors depending on the direction from which you look at it). What can I say except that I am not sure that he charges enough given the amount of time it took him and how painless it was for us to have him come and work at our house.

I am a repeat customer of Ryan’s. Several years ago I had a set of dining room chairs which had become wobbly and unstable. I asked Ryan to look at them and he did, saying that he could fix the problem. The result was that when he finished they were as good as when I bought them 35 years before. The price was reasonable and the service was excellent. This week I asked Ryan to look at my 38-year-old Windsor-style kitchen chairs which had also become wobbly and unstable. Ryan listened patiently to my concerns and answered my questions about the repairs, then explained how he would go about fixing them. The result was the same as before, namely, they are as stable as the day I bought them. Again, the price was reasonable and the service was excellent. Ryan is a master craftsman and is very easy to work with. Like the good doctors of yore, he makes house calls. It doesn’t get any better than that. I highly recommend Ryan for any of your furniture repair needs.

Of the three contractors recommended by Angie’s List, Ryan Poulton was the only contractor to contact me. He did so within 24 hours of my request, and was able to give us a quote based on photos sent to him. He was able to come in and do the work within two days. The job appeared to be more time consuming than he had anticipated, but he did not complain or ask for a change in price. The work was done very professionally. The repaired areas were blended very well with the furiniture, so much so it’s hard to tell the difference. Overall very satisfied with the response, professionalism and quality of the work. Will use this contractor again.

I bought an old pub table on Craigslist that was wobbly and had a few scratches. Ryan put in some supports to make it sturdy. He also sanded it and put the first couple coats on to refinish it. I appreciated that he pointed out I didn't actually need some of the repairs I requested. And he showed me how to put on the finishing coats of lacquer to save me some money. The table came out beautifully.

Hello David Here's the situation. I used to do free estimates for insurance claims, but in most cases the people simply used my estimate to get cash from their insurance companies. They never intended to have me do the repairs. My time was completely wasted. Of course, they all claimed beforehand that that was not their intention. Consequently, if you would like an estimate for an insurance claim, I will charge a fee of $80, payable upon my visit to inspect the damage. Following my visit, I will email you an estimate on my letterhead. HOWEVER, I will reimburse to you this fee of $80 if/when I am engaged to perform the repairs. Thanks for the inquiry, and let me know if you would like to proceed with an estimate. Response from In-Home Furniture Repair and Refinishing by Ryan Poulton
102 positive reviews, and then this? This customer requested a free estimate on freight damage, citing my advertising of free estimates. However, he was NOT requesting an estimate in good faith or in the spirit of competition. He was requesting it to collect money from his insurance company, with no intention of having the furniture repaired. He wished for me to visit his home, inspect the furniture, and write up a written estimate on his letterhead. For free. This was not an estimate, it was a service, for which I told him I would charge a fee. But, on the off chance that he intended to ultimately have me perform the repairs, I told him that I would reimburse the fee at that time. So the estimate WOULD in fact be free if he truly intended to have the repairs done. This protected me and it protected him, if he was legitimate. But he wasn't legitimate. If he actually intended to get the work done he would have accepted my terms because he would have had the fee reimbursed to him. This is all in my email to him which he reproduced in his review. (See above.) So, he was angry that he got caught in his game. And for this I got an "F" posted on Angie's List. Frustrating.

Ryan was very responsive. He came to our home, evaluated what we wanted done vs. what he could provide. His statements of expected results were on target. His prices are reasonable, and he is a craftsman. He takes time to explain his processes, and his work is meticulous. You will not be disappointed in the quality of his work.

Very well, Ryan was able to estimate the effort over the phone before even seeing the project. He arrived on schedule, and very meticulously restored the surface of our dining table to very close to it's original state, this included matching a variety of different colors of stain that ran through the damaged area, he was even able to restore the surface to eliminate the pit that the acetone had caused. I couldn't be more pleased, as the blemish has all but disappeared! Ryan is something of an artist and a perfectionist with this kind of restorative work, would use him anytime for this kind of work. Thanks!
Description of Work: Restored a serious blemish in our dining table. We had used acetone to remove some glue that spilled onto a wooden table. This is a bad idea! It took the glue and all the finish off the table leaving a pit in the table and exposing the bare wood.

At first, Ryan quoted a cost of $180/chair, but when he discovered that the upholstered seat and back could be removed, he reduced the price to $150 each. We very much appreciated his cost-consciousness. He did a wonderful job of matching the finish of each chair to the finish of the other furniture in the room where it would be placed, based on samples we provided. Both chairs look great, and it's impossible to tell that they haven't always been the colors they currently are. We're very happy with the result and recommend him highly!

Ryan is a true artist and craftsman. He completely fixed a damaged area on my husbands office desk (about a 12" square) where the finish had been completely destroyed. He not only matched the cherry-wood color perfectly, he was able to match the desk satin finish as well! Looking at the desk now, you would never know it ever had an issue...amazing! Ryan also refinished the entire top of one of our nightstands. Again, his work was nothing short of perfection. It looks like a new piece of furniture! Now, I have him working on two damaged leather ottomans. I would HIGHLY RECOMMEND Ryan to anyone who either needs furniture repair or refinishing. He's the best!

Originally I contacted Mr. Poulton to get an estimate on refinishing the entire desk. I emailed him pictures of the desk. He called me back and said that he thought he could repair just the damaged areas. The price to do just the repair was a fraction of the cost to have the desk refinished. That, to me is a reflection on what an honest person he is. He was able to repair the desk at my home and it looks great.

I called Ryan to fix some "moving damage" to my furniture. He asked pertinent questions and gave me a "best guess" estimate over the phone. I was able to schedule him within a week of my call. He arrived promptly and took his shoes off at the front door. He looked at the damage and discussed the possible fixes. He gave me all the options and even "worst case scenarios" so I wouldn't be surprised if the water damage would require that the table be refinished. He was personable and easy to talk to. I was very comfortable having him in my home. The furniture was repaired very well. He was able to do a good color match to the secretary which was difficult as there were color changes in the wood within the area of damage. When he was done with the occasional table, I couldn't see where the damaged spot was! The final bill was within his estimate range. I would absolutely recommend him and use him again.

Mr Poulton was wonderful to work with. He worked in our home so there was no need to transport large pieces of furniture to a workshop. He was polite in our home, prompt for appointments and cleaned up when he was done. We thought the quoted price was very fair for the amount of work required, and the high quality of workmanship. When he was finished, our old lovely antique sideboard looked wonderful, the new veneer was a perfect match and the damaged areas were invisible.
Description of Work: Refinished baseboard of china cabinet- including removing cracked, water damaged, veneer, replacing it and then staining it to match the original finish. He also filled several deep and wide gouges in the top of the cabinet- he actually made them invisible.

Ryan is a magician in furniture redoing. He provides options that he thinks make the most sense for the least cost up to the best of the best, whereby one may get a bit more but at much greater effort and cost. I appreciated his honesty. We settled on the less expensive methods which he felt we would be happy with and were. He did the breakfast area furniture in our garage and repaired the damage to the dining table in the room where it was as well as a foyer table. They all looked great when he finished. That was about $350 and well worth it. Seeing what he did in about half a day, I asked if he would look at an old study desk I have had for about 40 years. It was old when I bought it from another owner. The top was scared, scratched and with water stains, etc. I thought it was beyond repair. He wasn't sure what he could do himself, but offered to work on it in his shop if we could get the top off, which I did. A week later, I was stunned by the perfection of the top. It looked new. It truly was a miraculous before and after restoration. He put many hours into it he said, and I believe him. It was well worth the $300. I will be forever careful with it from now on. This desk should be good for another hundred years or longer. Ryan was very easy to work with, easy to talk too and even gave me a 20 minutes discussion on how to do some furniture finishing for some workworking I am doing. I am so appreciative of his advice and service. I would call him back for any refinishing work in a heartbeat.
Description of Work: After having our wood floors magnificently refinished biy Hardwood Specialists (Sergei), we decided to have our breakfast nook table and chairs and an old desk refinished. We also needed another dining room type table damaged by fingernail polish remover redone and touchups on a foyer table. The breakfast area table and chairs are wonderfully made and very sturdy after about 35 years old. When he finished these, I asked him to look at an old desk I have had for years. It is an antique in age, ridiculously heavy and mostly solid wood. It was the top that was in major need or rejuvenation.
