Description of Work: They replaced all attic vents, sealed all openings into walls from wires and vents, then added insulation to bring it up to current standards. | |They provided a very competitive bid and worked seamlessly with Energy Trust of Oregon so that I did not need to provide paperwork, or pay for the entire project, then request reimbursement from Energy Trust. | |When Energy Trust was slow to pay them, then still did not request I pay that portion, rather honored our original agreement. I would definitely use them again.

Description of Work: I had them insulate my finished attic space. They did spray foam and regular insulation. They had the best price I could possibly find for the spray foam. Their workers were very nice and considerate. I did have a little trouble with them getting organized as to when to show up for the work. Once we got that figured out, they did good work. They were a little messy with their spray foam and got some on my light switches. I told them about it, and they tried their best to clean it off. I ended up having to replace 4 switches, but overall that was a small cost compared to what they charged me.

It was difficult to reach them by telephone. I was referred a couple times to somebody's cell phone, and that person either didn't return my call or returned it days later. But...once I set up an appointment for them to come out to give me an estimate, they were very professional and I assume they did great work (I don't really know how to check attic insulation to know for sure). After the initial phone call problems, they were extremely professional, payment by credit card was easy, the estimator and the installer were very friendly and thorough. I wish this company dealt with more than just insulation...they were a pleasure to work with and I would recommend them wholeheartedly to everyone.

They (two people) showed up at 9:45AM. Dave looked at the entire project before he started, said he would cover the pipes with plastic to prevent extreme cold weather from cracking pipes and bursting. He removed the window screen as that is how they would enter with the hose for the insulation. He checked for recessed lights, heat lamps and vents in the bathroom and laundry room. They put covers over their shoes, were courteous, professional and friendly. They layed tarps down, put carpet inside the window for their hose and they cleaned up all their mess! I didn't have one speck of insulation on my floor! After they left, courious me to see their work, pulled down the staircase, climbed up the ladder and I was absolutely amazed at the great job they did. They also nailed their certificate to the ceiling so it's visible when you enter the attic through this staircase. They did a great job and I sure wish my other jobs I've hired, went as well as this one did...yahoo, happy camper!!
Description of Work: They blew insulation into the attic of my three-story condo. Installed baffels (4) that I did not have and since I have a sprinkler system, they covered the pipes with plastic and then blew the insulation on top of that. I was not expecting this, but the service rep said that is what he would recommend and it would not be an additional cost to me. Since I have a pull-down staircase in the upstairs second bedroom for access, he asked me if I planned to use the attic for storage. When I said no, he said he'd close off the access by putting a paper-board around the top of the ladder, on the inside. The other attic access I have is though the master bedroom closet through a 2' x 2' hole. Since I wouldn't access at that location, he said he'd blow insulation right over it. They also gave me an arrival time between 8:00 and 10:00.

Their service was excellent, except for one thing: Their office was a little difficult to deal with to get me the paperwork I needed to apply for the government reimbursement for doing the energy savings to my home. The salesman whom I had originally dealt with was superb and was able to get the paperwork for me. Otherwise, they arrived on time and the job seems to have been well done.

He showed, he talked, he left. There was no bid or quote, just an empty promise to call back.
Description of Work: Randy was the salesman who was sent out to our house to see what we wanted done. He bragged on the phone about how we should have called them first, because they are the best. We showed him the attic and the crawl space, and explained what our insulation needs were. He told us he would get back to us with a bid; we didn't hear from him again.

Mike came and gave me several estimates to choose from. Then Dave and a helper came and blew the insulation in. At one point, I saw some pink fluff flying around inside my kitchen. Turned out that the kitchen cabinet had holes in the back, open to the interior of the wall, and so it was completely packed with insulation. Dave fixed that little problem and we vacuumed up he loose insulation. A couple of the wooden plugs used to plug up the drilled holes just fell out, or maybe into the walls of the house, because I could not find them. I covered the holes with strapping tape. A large-ish whole was punched into the interior wall of the living room by the pressure of blowing the insulation in. (80 year old plaster.) JB sent out another company to repair it. With the exception of a scheduling hiccup with the repair company, that was quite well handled.

The total for this treatment was $8918. Rick told us that the Polycell Open Cell spray foam was not as effective as the more expensive Closed Cell and he could keep our costs down by using just a couple of inches supplemented by fiberglass batts to insulate our home. 2)The re-estimate Rick did when we insisted on just Open Cell spray foam was $7250. 3)I called Max Sheldon, the Demilec Sealection 500 Insulation and Air Seal source for both the Closed and Open Cell Spray Foam used by all installers. Max said there was no reason to use the more expensive Closed Cell Foam. He said we did not need a fire retardant in our vaulted attic ceiling (required in just vertical walls) and the sheetrock covering the open foam in the remodeled part of the house was quite adequate. 4)We contracted with another company, and their estimate is $5525 for the same area JB Insulation re-quoted 7250 for open cell insulation.
Description of Work: 3"Closed cell spray foam + R 15 fiberglass insulation in 2 x 4 exterior walls. 1"Closed cell spray foam + R 21 fiberglass in 2x6 exterior walls. 2"Closed foam + R 30 fiberglass in 2x10 open vaulted ceiling. 1.5"Closed foam + R 13 @ knee walls. 1"foam + R38 fiberglass @ flat ceiling. R 19 fiberglass batt @ flat ceilings. Estimate was $8,918.00. He was a master of misrepresentation.

JB Insulation was prompt in scheduling the work which took most of one day. There was a minor issue with the vacuum mechanism midway through the project but the supervisor stopped by the site and remedied the problem. They did a clean job removing all traces of insulation. We would recommend them.

Brad came out to the house and took measurements. He explained that they would not drill through the siding, and geve the name and number for another person that would do that part for me. When the workers got here, they started on the back side of my house. I had a newborn with me, so we stayed in another part of the house away from the noise. They worked there way around the house (one bath and two and a half beds). I then got a knock on the door. The worker explained that he heard a nail pop. I checked the wall and saw that they were popping through in little rows up and down all of the rooms. He turned down his machine and there were no more on the remaining walls. After a complaint to Brad, a drywaller came out and repaired the walls. I had to move all of the furniture away from the walls. I then had to repaint the walls. It would have been nice to be forwarned so I could have checked the first room. I was disappointed that there was no consideration for my time to paint.

I was very pleased with this company from my first contact. The person who answered the phone was able to give me an approximate cost on the insulation I needed and gave me the phone number of their representative in my area. I called and scheduled an appointment and Mike Benck came to my home. He was informative and quick. About one week later the crew came and installed the insulation. They were professional and tidy and I am pleased with the results.

The rep. came out as scheduled, provided a thorough walk-through, assessment and recommendations, and bid. Bid was much higher than average received from two other vendors (by ca. $5,000). We decided to go with another vendor that came in lower -- and also provided us with more tailored services for our specific needs: different insulation material options (cellulose vs. fiberglass), doesn't drill into siding (removes siding pieces instead), etc. JB Insulation rep. also indicated that some work was out of scope/not possible (e.g., insulating some areas of the roof) -- but other insulation vendors that bid on the work pointed out how the work could be done.

These folks were great to work with. Even had a small snafu afterwards where one of the workers accidentally stapled through an electrical wire making my central air conditioning not working. This company seems to have major scheduling difficulties. They rescheduled three times in order to come out and then did not complete the job when they did come out. They needed to come out yet again to finish. Also, when they finally did show up they were an hour late! It is important to be at home when they are working as they job would not have been done correctly otherwise. The reason that the job was not finished was that the workers were unprepared and lacked the skills for the job, they said it was too difficult. They called out a supervisor who was very responsive and professional and promised to send out a more skilled crew on a different day. But I will have taken multiple days off work to oversee their work. As well, they did not clean up after themselves.
