Well. The fireplace got clean:)

Not well. The owner performed all work and left behind tools and material on the roof. I had to notify him to return. No big deal. BUT, my main concern with the work performed was my tile roof was damaged in the process, causing water damage. I hired a roofing contractor ($185) to repair it since I did not wanted Murphy's Chimney & Fireplace back on my roof and I needed roof repair, not chimney or fireplace. When I notified Murphy's regarding the situation and sought reimbursement , the phone operator did not know how to handle the situation and wanted to return my call to discuss once she received direction. O.K. Instead I receive a phone call from my tenants stating there was someone knocking at the door about the roof. When Murphy's worker (the owner) was questioned by tenants, he was impolite and disregarded questions regarding his right to be there. My tenants were not happy. No one called me from Murphy's to discuss my options. I was not given the opportunity to authorize Murphy's to return; which I would have declined. But instead return he did, replacing some tiles. Phone messages were left on my home phone stating their actions. When I contacted the owner directly stating miscommunication and there was NO NEED for Murphy's to return since the damage was already repaired and I was simply seeking reimbursement, the owner flat out refused to re-pay me or completely hear me out. He stated he 'made it right' by going out there to replace some cracked tiles. (??!!) Again, already repaired, not o.k'd by me plus I did not want discolored tiles put on my roof, was not able to notify my tenants, etc., etc. causing a lot of headaches! Complete lack of professionalism, common courtesy and reason. I am quite disgusted by my Murphy's experience and I highly recommend you look elsewhere if you are expecting quality service. P.S. This is my first negative review. If I can stave off others from dealing with this kind of BS, so much the better. Good luck!

Arrived early as he had completed another job early. Very thorough in his inspection and cleaning. Would certainly use this company again.

They did a good job.

The employee checked the fireplace because we had been concerned about smoke backing into the house. So we were concerned about it not drafting well. He checked the fireplace,chimney, asked some questions, and then said we didn't need to have any repairs made. He pointed out some ways we could improve the drafting without any repairs. He spent time with us, and did not charge us for the time he spent with us. He said that if we still needed any more help, that we could purchase an addition to the firebox, but didn't think we would need to do so. Subsequently, we have not needed to make any changes, or purchase the firebox addition. We were very pleased.

Technician arrived on-time, was very professional and cleaned up after himself. Gave us some great advice to get a fire to burn the best and some options for retrofitting our chimney with a different type of damper for it to work better. Discovered that we just have a badly designed fireplace.

Did not see much value in their inspection service since it was more of a prelude of placing a bid on work. I understand if contractors place a fee on putting in bids but my expectation was that there would be a honest evaluation of my options for shoring up an older chimney. In the end I was given a 10k figure for the cost of work. Was not pleased with the service and unimpressed by their operation.

They are punctual and professional. They always use cloth tarps and protection to keep the ash from getting on the floor and furniture. A bit pricey but worth it.

Same result for last five + years. I called the office and schedule the cleaning. He is on time and extremely professional in what he does. Is extremely careful to not make a mess around the stove. Last year he replaced some bad flashing around the stove.

On 7/1/14 Ordered the deal from Murphy's Chimney the coupon/order info said I would be contacted in 2 days thru Angie's List Messages. On July 8th, I had still not been contacted and received a follow up from Angie's list asking if I Had been contacted. I responded to that form indicating I had not been contacted and indicated a new potential service date as requested in the form. AS of July 14th I have still received no contact from the vendor and requested the refund for the deal. I feel if a vendor will not follow up on his timing commitments on a published ad and purchase that this is a vendor I cannot trust despite positive reviews from other members in the past. 08/7/2014 UPDATED Murphy's Chimney Service contacted me and explained the problem with my original purchase of their Big Deal, they were understanding of my frustration and apologized for the computer problems they were having.. I appreciate their reaching out and wanting to correct the earlier communication problem so I scheduled a cleaning. Paul came out, arriving on time, very pleasant, and very efficiently inspected and cleaned our chimney. He provided me with some things to watch for in the firebox (which is old) that would mean some repairs might be needed. I was very pleased with the service. The people i talked with or met, Amy and Paul, were very professional. I am glad I was willing to overlook the original communication issue and have them do the service!

They did a great job. They were very friendly, efficient, and on-time. They were very detailed an explained everything. They gave good advice about the health of the chimney.

They did a great job cleaning the chimney. They also offered some advice on making the wood stove more efficent. When they were running late they called to let us know they would be late.

We have used Murphy's for years and will continue to use them for years to come. They are great and would highly recommend them. They call back quickly if you have to leave a message and are always on time for scheduled appointments. The woodstoves and gas insert areas look great after they get cleaned.

Our experience with Murphy's was excellent. The employee paid close attention to detail and was able to answer all our questions. We would highly recommend them and will be using their services again.

Contacted this company in January of 2011 for an inspection after I purchased my home. This was my first experience with a gas burning fireplace and I wanted to make sure it was in good condition so I could safely use it. I was told the fireplace was fine and it was safe to use. However, at a later date, during a safety check of my home by NW Natural, I was told that I shouldn't use the fireplace until a damper clamp was installed because there was a potential danger of gas leakage into my home. I contacted Murphy's again to do the installation and queried the guy who came out to install the clamp about his knowledge/opinion about the clamp and was told that it a clamp is recommended to ensure the flue is in a fixed open position. I asked why the previous guy, who turned out to be his boss, didn't recommend a clamp when he did the initial inspection but he couldn't answer for him. I pointed out that I now had to pay for an additional call but didn't get an offer of a price break. Therefore, I won't use the company again and can't recommend them.

Main concerns were that the workers were very sloppy: allowed mortar to run down the roof from the peak, and into the rain gutter, streaking the roof and clogging the gutter. They poured mortar liquid on the driveway, staining it somewhat; also into the plants on the side-front of the house. They also bent one of the rain gutter metal mesh covers and left it that way. The brick work was reasonably ok; but the bricks on one of the chimneys seems a little crooked. In the bid, it was stated that the mortar would be allowed to cure for approx a month -- but they wanted to get paid, contrary to the contract, before finishing. They accelerated the payment due by coming out in approx a week after building the chimney and said that they sealed the bricks and mortar. I looked to see if I could see where a sealant was applied (and I'm not sure it is even something that you can tell after the fact), but I could not see any evidence that it was applied. And if applied, whether it was premature -- and what future problems that might create, if any.

Had to book well in advance, but it's their busy season. Arrived onsite on time. Knowledable and informative. Left ash and creosote on roof. Cleaned up inside the house fine.

Very, very professional. I was very pleased. They were very efficient and they had to come back within 25-30 days to give a final inspection and they did. They came back today.

The job went extremely well from the first estimate to final completion. The work crew arrived on time and schedule, the old chimneys came down without damaging the shrubbery or the house next door or the roof. Clean-up was exemplary with all the old brick hauled off each day. Initially we were shown sample books and styles of brick construction and work which they have done (very impressive) by Mr. Murphy who came out to inspect and do the estimate. We used brick which came closest to matching the older style. The work was completed in a very short time, 2-3 days, and has been holding up fine ever since (about 10 years).
