They were right on time - - maybe 15 minutes early. Service tech and a trainee - Explained what they were doing and showed me their test meter readings.They wore boot covers inside the house and put down a covering on floor while they worked. We appreciated that, since we had just had carpets cleaned. Price was as offered on Angie's List special discount.

They did a great job, and thoroughly checked our fireplace and chimney and let me know what I would need to repair in the future.

Excellent. They called to see if they could arrive a bit early. That was fine. They thorougly cleaned the firebox, individual pieces, inspected the flue and made recommendations (no hard sell) for modernizing improvements.

Thankfully the other company was honest and he pointed out to me that Murphy's had left a huge mess on my roof. They also didn't replace the top two rows of bricks they just took them off and made a big crown. My two other bids for my second chimney were both half the price of Murphy's and neither included the extensive work that Paul told me I had to have. After many phone calls and having Paul come out to my house and see the work that was done they did eventually correct the problem. Even that was not without problems. They wanted to put bricks that did not match my existing bricks on for the new ones. They waited until the day before the work was to start to show them to me and I said no. Had I not had the other chimney company come out I would not have seen the mess on my roof or in my gutters and in the dead of winter I did not notice the top of the chimney not looking right. They also mixed their mortar on my deck and made scratches in my deck that had just been re-stained and the furniture that was stored under my deck for the winter was covered with mortar. Time will tell if the waterproof sealer is any good. The other company told me it was too cold to put on waterproofing so they waited and came back to do my other chimney when it was warmer. I have attached a few pictures which are just part of the mess they left.

The tuck point went fine, employees that did this job were experienced. The flashing job had to be redone due to poor installation.

They took pictures of the issues to show me what needed to be repaired. They matched the brick to some brick that I have on the front of my house. The finished product looks really good. I was very happy with their work.

After a thorough examination of the Fireplace, I was told that the smoke could not rise up the chimney properly due the fact that one of two dampers was sealed shut! I was flabbergasted. Why hadn't this been revealed before by the other Angie's List recommended "professionals?" The representative from Murphys Fireplace and stove explained that I had two options for remedying the situation: unseal the closed damper at a cost of $1,200 (!) or install a 2-3 inch barrier at the top of the fireplace opening to try and catch some of the smoke roiling out. I can't remember the price of this but it was in the $150-250 range. I was very grateful for the thorough examination revealing what the problem truly was... these guys know their stuff and explain it in easy to understand terms. I have not yet acted on either of the suggestions because it seems like the partial barrier option (while more affordable) wasn't going to be very effective, knowing how much the fireplace smoked. And the second option, while clearly getting to the root of the problem, was way out of my price range. Frankly, I don't understand why this particular job had such an astronomical price tag. Regardless, as I mentioned, I'm thankful for their careful diagnosis of the problem and dearly wish I would have hired them first at the first sign of the problem years ago. Heck, I would have been able to pay over twice the high price quoted for the remedy had I not spent it all on previous fireplace/chimney contractors! Save money, inconvenience and frustration by starting with Murphy's Fireplace and Stove to diagnose any fireplace issues you may be having.

Mixed results. Some downspouts installed okay? Matching paint was not used leaving the work off color.

It took a long time to schedule, almost a month from the initial inspection which was 2 weeks from the time of purchase. The work was done professionally and within the time they said it would be done. Good job/good price.

Paul, the owner, did a great job in cleaning up my 2 fireplaces, thoroughly inspected chimney, and provided explanations and quotes for items that require repair. He prioritized the repair work due to my budget concern. He will return to place a new steel chimney cap for me. I definitely will hire him again.

While it took a few weeks to get a slot scheduled, probably due to the demand from the coupon, I was able to find a time that worked for me. My pilot light on the gas fireplace wouldn't stay on so was hoping during the maintenance I could get an assessment of what was wrong. Since my unit was older, the pilot light was not something he had available. He mentioned he would have his service staff check to see if there was a replacement part the following day but I never heard anything. When asked how much would cost for new set gave a cost estimate that seemed pretty high. I ended up going to another fireplace store and getting a new set of gas logs for a lower price. He did do a nice job cleaning out the inside of the unit.

I had purchased the Angie's list deal to replace 50 feet of gutter, however, upon visiting and assessing the issue, it was determined that the issue was better resolved through adding an additional downspout. I believe the tech moved my existing gutter around a bit (hammered in some nails, etc) but did not replace anything and was only on site for less than 1 hr. I was told i would receive a quote to fix the problem (add a downspout) but i never received this. Based on this, i would like a refund for my Angie's list purchase of $199 for replacing 50 feet of gutter, as I never received the replacement nor the quote I was promised. I will be sure to reach out in the future if I need any gutter replacement. Thanks,
