Our basement flooded and so I called Day Heating today to ask if we should get a professional out. The basement last night had about 5 to 6 inches of water which we drained while also turning off the water heater since it was partially submerged. I spoke to Luke this morning - he was extremely courteous and let me know that we should turn it back on and see if it works but if it didn't, they would be more than happy to take a look at the heater. He reinforced what we already suspected - that this much water was likely due to the rain and not from the heater itself. We have turned it on and so far (knock on wood) it seems to be working fine and there is no leak from the heater. Compare this to another business we called about the same problem who listened to what we said and then told us they would send someone out and then gave us a quote in several hundred dollars saying the water heater would likely have to be replaced.
Description of Work: Advise over the phone for no charge.

When we first decided to make the switch from electric heat to gas I did my usual thing of contacting 3 contractors for bids. Day heating?s bid came in at the mid point, though far above the cheapest contractor they weren?t that far away from the most expensive one. I must admit I seriously considered the most expensive one because they had done some earlier work for me. However, what got me to choose Day over them was the patience Jim showed me in explaining every step of the process in as much detail as I needed. For example, I wanted to keep my heat pump to use for cooling rather than pay for an air-conditioning unit at this time and he carefully explained the pro?s and con?s and what he?d need to do in order to keep the unit. Yes, I did keep it because of the things he explained. The contractor I used before seemed to take for granted that I?d use them again ? they were nice, they were friendly, they were polite but didn?t seem to think I needed all the details and that I should just trust them. That?s not the way I work. I am a very price conscious individual but will often go with the most expensive because I generally feel you get what you pay for. Well, this case proves that this idea is not always true. I am extremely glad that I decided to go with Day Heating because through every step in the process of conversion I was kept informed of what they were doing, and why, and that meant a lot to me. The guys who took out my electric furnace and put in the new gas furnace were super ? friendly yet professional and cleaned up spotlessly at the end of the first day and when the job was done as well. I can honestly say I have zero issues with their work and will definitely call them for any future work. Oh yeah, there is one problem ? the furnace Jim talked me into is so dang quiet I sometimes wonder if it?s working. Jim and Sally Mackey Please call 503-781-6315 for a personal reference regarding this company. Thanks, Sally

Very well. Employee found that the old duct had protruding screws that caught lint that another company did not clean out with their rotating wire brush on numerous occasions. Also, we found out that the dryer duct was straight and did not have a number of turns as described by the other company. The work was done quickly and now our dryer works the way it is supposed to.

I was home on R&R and had a limited time frame to work with. Being busy got me a late start with this project, so I had about one week left. I wanted to take advantage of the tax rebates this year. After reading the ratings here and looking at their web site, I decided to put all my eggs in one basket and called Day. It took a few days for Paul to come out. The staff was nice to call to say he would be a half-hour late. Paul was professional and efficient, had an estimate whipped up in no time. The price was a little more than I expected, but the jaw-dropper was the quote was for a 98% efficient York furnace! I thought that would be out of my league. It really was a no-brainer when tax rebates were factored in. I explained my time crunch, but that was not a problem either. Paul called and got the install in two days. The installer was prompt and easy to work with. The furnice was complete in one day, the water heater and duct took another 3/4 day, Very happy with the installs and the equipment. The touch-screen thermostat that came with the package is really nice too. I'm set! Day did all the rebate paperwork for us too. Not much to say about the water heater itself except that it's much more efficient than my old 19 y.o. one. Made by Rheem, so it is of good quality. I would certainly recommend Day Heating!!

Sales person was excellent, took his time explaining everything and answering questions, was not high pressure, followed up during and after the installation to be sure all was completed to their specifications and that of the customer. Overall it was their customer service and attention to detail that won us over. Would recommend to all.

In June we asked for an estimate to replace our heat system which dated from the 1970s. The estimator was prompt in coming out on June 8. However, he didn't take as much time looking at the current system & deciding what needed to be done as 3 other companies. Left me with the impression that (my quote) we know what we're doing & are so good at it that we can just skim over it & give you a price. I asked that they give us their estimate by the 10th, as we wanted to start the work promptly & had another company ready to go immediately. He agreed to email it to me & I gave him my email info. On the 10th or 11th (I'd have to check my record for certain) I sent a reminder email to let him know we still hadn't heard back. By the 15th we still had not received anything & I sent an email to let him know that we went with another company, basically because he couldn't be courteous enough to give us an estimate. On the next day after he would have received the email, another staff member called me, FOR the estimator, with an "He's sorry" message. Apparently he was in a meeting & couldn't contact me himself. According to them, they'd sent the email; however, I never received it & I did notice he wrote it down correctly when I gave it to him. Overall, we were very disappointed in the attitude & response. We had the feeling they thought we weren't important enough to bother with. I can't even rate them on the price because we didn't get one. I DEFINATELY wouldn't recommend them to anyone.

Response from Day Heating Co
The customer had scheduled an appointment for Day Heating to come to their home on the 8th of June. We arrived on time for the appointment (note the “A” grade for punctuality) and proceeded to collect the necessary information. The customer had done an excellent job of having most of the information available for us, and very clearly articulated their goals and desires for the project. We were able to efficiently collect what we needed (the project was a straight forward heat pump replacement with some minor duct repairs) and let the customer know that, due to a full schedule, the bid would not be ready until the 10th (two days from the appointment). At 11:01 am on June 10th, we received a short inquiry email from the customer about the status of the proposal. According to our server logs, at 12:49 pm on the 10th, the salesman replied to the email from the customer and attached the proposal in pdf format. The server logs show the message was sent and the message did not bounce back as undeliverable. We assumed everything was fine. At 9:09 am on June 15th, we received another email from the customer indicating they had never received the information and that they had selected another contractor. The salesperson attempted to contact the customer and only reached a voice mail recording. He explained in a voice mail message that the proposal had been sent on time and that he wasn’t sure why she didn’t receive it. Since he had additional appointments that morning, he had the company receptionist keep trying to contact the customer and make sure they got the voice mail. When our receptionist finally reached the customer, the customer indicated they did receive the voicemail, but deleted it without listening to it. Day Heating made every good faith effort to communicate with the customer in a timely manner (our goals include being both timely and professional in all interactions with our customers). Our server logs show the information was successfully sent – since we don’t have access to details on the receiving end we can only guess that it was detained by a spam filter or perhaps errantly deleted by the customer.

Day heatings service technician ran a gas line under my house to service the furnace and as I can attest, this is a very difficult place to work, but this was done very quick and professionally. The furnace and A/C was up and running very shortly and I could not have asked for a better result!
Description of Work: When I purchased this home about five years ago, it had an old oil furnace and no a/c. Paul Mlsna (yes that's right, only one vowel) came to me, at my request and discussed my needs. I had originally wanted a heat pump, but because of the size of my ductwork this would have required the replacement of all of my existing ductwork, which wasn't practical at the time so we decided on a gas furnace and a/c. Their service people installed both the furnace and A/C in what I considered "record time" their works was excellent and the price was exactly what they had quoted. I has since contracted with them for a biyearly service on these units and am currently having them quote on two gas logs/fireplace inserts (yet to be determined).

Day Heating was very responsive. The salesman, Paul, came to the house within 24 hours of our request for an estimate and did the estimate while at the home. Paul was very helpful and knowledgeable. The work was scheduled within a few days. It was a difficult job, but the technicians who did the job were very professional and explained everything they were doing. Because it was a difficult job, I asked that the company check the AC unit a couple of weeks later to make sure it was charged and working correctly. They did the follow-up check even though that was not part of the original deal. And, we got a $75 rebate from Day Heating because it was the company's 75th anniversary. I definitely recommend Day Heating and would use them again without hesitation.

They were very quick on the job. All of the workers that came out were very pleasant and worked steady. The whole job from start to finish went two days. I've had no problems at all and all the equipment has been running fine. I have nothing but good things to say about them. They were great. Their price was very competitive with everyone else in the market. I would hire them again in a heartbeat.

When my aged gas furnace died a sudden death, I took the time to do my homework and get multiple bids. Of the four contractors who submitted bids, only Day bothered to get measurements, count heating and air return vents and actually calculate their recommendations to suit my quirky, high-ceilinged, 100-year-old home. Their representative, Paul, provided me with multiple options and clear explanations of the differences among them. While I ultimately chose their top-of-the line model, I never felt pressured to do so; in fact, Paul made it clear that even the less efficient models would do a better job of heating my house than my ancient Lennox. Day arranged financing, and - with an unseasonable cold snap about to hit - their installer, Jason, got the job done neatly, professionally and quickly - in under a day and a half, including some fairly tricky work needed to design and install the new intake and exhaust vents. After a city inspector managed to misread the manufacturer's installation guide and order changes that were just plain wrong, the folks at Day have taken care of all communication with the city so I didn't have to. An excellent experience all-around, and I'm very happy with the furnace itself; not only does it keep my home comfortable, but it's so quiet compared to the old beast that I had to check a couple of times to make sure it was actually running. And thanks, Angie's List - your rankings played a part in my choice of contractors.
Description of Work: Replacement of a 41-year-old gas furnace with a new York high-efficiency model and programmable thermostat. Services included consultation, bid, arranging financing, installation and handling all city permit and inspection processes. Also provided paperwork and clear instructions for federal and state tax credits and manufacturer's rebate.

When we arrived in Salem in early March of 2010, it only took us a few hours to realize that the heat pump wasn't working. The unit had been serviced in March of 2009 right after we bought the house, and we decided we would not waste any more money trying to resuscitate the noisy sixteen year-old system. We requested an estimate from Day Heating, based on reviews in Angie's List. The estimator was punctual, and explained exactly why the system he recommended (which included 50% more auxiliary heat than the old system) would best meet our needs. He explained the Bryant rebate and the Oregon State energy rebate, verified that we had sufficient electrical capacity, and scheduled the installation for three days later. The installer arrived on time and set to work removing the old air handler and installed the new one by the afternoon. We had electric heat that evening, and used it for the next day and a half until the compressor was installed. Day heating is remarkably efficient. They send the specialists needed when they are needed, and they work until their part of the job is complete. It would be hard to overstate how fast and competent these individuals are in their areas. The electrical specialist encountered a problem with the thermostat signal wire and took an hour to diagnose the problem, and then he installed the thermostat in an alternative configuration. The building inspector was scheduled promptly by Day Heating, and they made a follow-up visit after the inspection. This was helpful, since we then learned about the ability to program the thermostat from a PC. They were helpful with the Bryant rebate, and included the device and software (which we did not order) for programming the thermostat from a PC. This is a real convenience. The overall results are terrific. The new system has a ten year warranty. It is very quiet and the house is comfortable. Day Heating is a quality and customer driven organization; if Oregon still has a state-level Baldridge type quality award Day Heating should go after it.
Description of Work: Day Heating replaced the heat pump system in the first floor of our house. This involved removal and replacement of the air handler/coil, refrigerant lines, compressor and thermostat.

The salesman, Paul, was very informative and explained in detail all the rebates and tax credits that would apply to the purchase. Jose, the installer, did an outstanding job and worked very hard to complete the installation in one day so we would not be without heat overnight. The installation was not easy as our furnace room is small and the living room ceiling is vaulted, requiring extra time and effort. He worked more than an hour beyond his work shift. At the end of the installation, through no fault of Jose, the furnace would not come on. Jose offered to go back to the shop to pick up space heaters so we would have heat through the night. We declined as our wood stove was adequate. The technician, Dan, arrived very early the next morning and had the problem fixed and the furnace operating within a half hour. We were very pleased with the entire process. Day Heating did an excellent job!

I really appreciated the promptness and the willingness of Day to go the extra mile.
Description of Work: We experienced some flooding in our crawlspace a couple years ago and we did not know how extensive the damage was. While Day was out servicing our older system I had the technician take a look at the area where the flooding occurred. He said that there was some damage to one of the flexible duct and that it would need replaced. I asked to have Day provide an estimate. About a week later I received an estimate and gave the go-ahead for them to complete the repairs. A technician came out early on a Friday morning and started the job. About an hour into the work, he mentioned that the damage was more extensive and that part of the duct was in an area that he could not reach. The technician did remove some of the damaged duct work, that still had standing water in it. I asked if they would be able to make the repairs, and he said he would need assistance and he would check with the office. I received a call after lunch and the technician along, with the sales manager, arrived in the afternoon. They both donned coveralls and proceeded to make their way into the crawlspace. After some time they reemerged and informed me of the situation with the duct work. They scheduled a time when two technicians would be available, at the soonest possible time.

Excellent. Tim was the installer and he did an excellent job. When the original contractor who build the home installed the A/C, he ran the lines through a vent screen! When Day Heating (Tim) installed the Hybrid Heat Pump, they drilled through the foundation to make the job look professionally installed. This process took almost another 1/2 day to complete...however, they wanted the job to be right!

Luke at Day Heating was very friendly, and made arrangements to have someone come out immediately (next day) to complete the work I needed to sell my house. When they determined that there was an additional part needed to complete the work (more work was needed than was described in the inspection report), they returned the next day. I would recommend using this company; and intend on calling them when I need to have my furnace/air conditioning serviced in the house I now live in.
