When I first met Scott we went over everything, my chimney needed new mortar and some bricks replaced, and we looked at my fireplace because it smokes and let him know that my husband would love to have the chimney restored back to brick. Scott said he could fix the fireplace easy enough and he could sand down the chimney. When the contract was written the only thing on it was the tuck pointing the chimney and some minor repairs. When I asked him about the other items he said, "I have been in business for 20 years and if I said it will be done it will be". I also was concerned on how long it would take and if the weather would affect the job (I knew rain was coming). He told me it would take about a week and weather did not have a bearing on it - in fact he had tuck pointed a chimney in the snow. Well he lied, he would not work in the rain and so it took about 4 weeks to complete the job and he did not do anything to my fireplace. I had just had new siding and a roof put on prior to the chimney work. Scott was changing the new flashing the roofers installed because he said it was installed wrong. When he removed the flashing he found that the bricks had been cut more than he thought. He told me he was going to have to tear off a section of my new roof to fix it. To shorten the story my roofer came out with a masonry contractor and found a alternative solution - we had to pay the masonry contractor to teach Scott (A Clean Sweep) how to repair the bricks. Then it came time to see if the chimney could be restored back to brick - Scott showed me a sample of his sanding and then told me it would be an additional 600 - 800 dollars to do it (when originally he said it would be included). We did not have that done. He did scrape of any loose paint (which a majority of the paint had been removed prior) and paint the chimney instead of sealing it. We paid the extra cost for quality primer and paint versus the stuff he was getting at Home Depot. Scott told me from the beginning that this was a messy job (like pig pen in peanuts) but he would clean it up. Well his idea of clean and mine were two different things. He never put down any tarps, (in fact my roofer was upset that he didn't tarp his work area on the roof and said it could affect my new shingles), and he ground out mortar for several days ( he usually showed up in the afternoon and left by 4) there was couple times he washed off the driveway and a little bit of the house but other days I had to. But the worst part was that he started asking for additional payment, in fact before he did the final clean up he wanted his final payment, when I told him I would pay him when he finished he got very angry and left - in fact it sorta scared me. I had already decided that when he came back if he showed anymore anger towards me I was going to ask him to leave and come back when my husband was home. Luckily he was apologetic when he returned (and luckliy my adult son was there too). I had to use soap and water to wash my house and I had to pull out a large section of my barkdust - he did nothing to try to keep the mess down. For 300.00 more I could have had another contractor do the work (even in the rain) that would tarped everything off - He is Ben from D&K Masonry. He is the gentleman that said he would be more than willing to teach Scott how to fix my cut bricks without tearing off my new roof. My chimney looks nice - but what I had to live with for 3-4 weeks was to nice.

It went well....However there was a code problem and we were promised return visit with a metal plate. That did not happend.

My chimney has weather damage. He gave me a quote for chimney damage. They are going to grind the bricks down and apply a high strength polymer based mortar. It would be cheaper than demolishing things are rebuilding. He also gave me a ten year guarantee that nothing will happen. He said it was a result of freezing. He had an emergency so he changed the week to the following week.

The owner did an outstanding job of cleaning my chimney, He was very amiable, professional and thorough. He placed a protective cover on my stove before starting and gave me lots of advice on how to operate the stove since I am a novice on wood burning stoves. He also told me where to purchase the best firewood in this area. I will definitely be calling on his services again next year.

Scott Spansel was great. He came out promptly and gave us a quote. Looked at another chimney on the house to make sure it checked out ok. Broke down chimney to level of roof and hauled pieces away. He was honest, straightforward and told us his opinion. The job took him twice as long as he expected and he had to rent a tool to break up the concrete. He still came in very close to his original quote.

They would have called and let us know that they were coming in advance. They showed up and we were not home. My daughter was home and she called us and we just turned around and came home. The chimney cap is used to cover the chimney. I did not even know there was a windstorm and it actually blew off of our chimney. Their price was better than the other people we called.

I scheduled a chimney cleaning; they arrived on time as scheduled. They checked the chimney box and immediately told us it did NOT need to be cleaned, so there was no charge. I asked them about an on-going 'camp-out' smell in the house and he was able to give me several explanations...and solutions. We agreed a custom directional chimney cap would help, and I was able to order it for installation within 48 hours. It was installed as scheduled, has a life-time warranty...and has indeed improved the function of our fireplace.

Prompt, timely, and efficient. They identified issues with the seal and flashing on the chimney that did not require immediate attention.

Scott scheduled the work and kept the appointment. He rebuilt the chimney and is scheduled to come back in the near future to apply the waterproofing. He did an excellent job and the chimney looks like new.

This company came out ready to clean the chimney of a house I had just moved into. They looked over the chimney and said it was in good working order and no cleaning was necessary. I thought that was being very honest of them as they could have gone ahead and cleaned it unnecessarily.

On time, personable, cleaned the working chimney with no mess in house. 2nd chimney is a gas flue for heater unit. His quote was originally $99 but invoice was $125 on that cap.
