We found them on Angie's List. And I like the fact that they are a local company. The experience with Portland Alarm is very good.

I called Marc and he came out for an overview of the property and made suggestions. Sean came out a few weeks later for the installation. The experience was excellent.

I knew I wanted a hard-wired system installed in my home, but Marc kept insisting on the battery operated system. After an hour of discussing, and us never coming to an agreement, he said he would write up an estimate for a hard-wired system, and I said I would think about it. The only thing that really upset me was that he interrupted me when I was explaining what I wanted and tried to talk me into something else.

We used the Angie’s introductory package, and we’re extremely pleased with our new alarm system. Marc and his company were responsive, professional, and very pleasant to deal with. Our installers, John and Sean, did a swift and thorough job, and when we had questions about the system, John came back to do a clear and comprehensive summary explaining each procedure. Each member of the team, Marc, John, Sean, and Betty, has been terrific about customer satisfaction, which we really appreciate. In sum, an excellent experience with a responsible and customer-focused company, meriting our top-tier recommendation.

We first contacted Portland Security Alarm by phone, relying on the company's excellent record on Angie's List. The boss man, Mark, with two assistants came out to explain the system, listen to our wants, and survey our home. We decided on the type and number of alarm points, and received an estimate (proved to be exact) of costs. In a few days, we received word that the parts were in, and arranged an install date. The guys showed up (right on time!) and quickly had the system installed precisely as we wanted. The work was extremely neat; no exposed wires or other changes in the walls. It was also fast, but not rushed. John, the head technician-plus, explained system in detail, and helped walk us through the operation. We have made one false-alarm goof, and were gratified by the quick and professional response by the monitoring people. The cost (payed at the time of installation) was just as estimated, and, we feel, extremely reasonable. To sum up: we are more than satisfied by our dealings with this firm, and delighted by the feeling of security we now have. FYI: The company is more than gracious in dealing with Angie's List customers.

I am a relatively new Angie's List subscriber, and one of the first things I set out to find was a security company to sell and install a basic alarm system in my home. We haven't had a lot of problems with crime or anything but it seemed like a good idea since we're planning on starting a family soon. Luckily, Angie's List was pretty conclusive- Portland Security Alarm seems to be its local company of choice. They had a $99 basic system deal in place, and so I called for an appointment. I also contacted the nationwide leading brand as well as the leading mail-order/do-it-yourself company for information and price quotes. After having both Mark from PSA and the rep from the nationwide leading brand in-home, it was a pretty easy decision for my wife and I. Mark's recommendations on which system components we needed and where they would be placed were (IMO) superior to the NLB rep's. PSA's equipment was more basic, for sure, but the price was a *lot* less. The NLB representative couldn't give us a professional-looking, clearly written quote, and the company's pricing system was very confusing and suspicious-looking. (Basically, it appeared to be an elaborate shell game based on having the right promotion and buying "right away".) My wife and I didn't need some sort of Star Wars-level surveillance, just reliable notification of break-in or fire so we could sleep at night and go away on vacation without worrying. So while the NLB systems were very impressive-looking, they weren't worth the considerably higher price to us. Supporting a local family-owned company that's right up the road from us was also a big plus. Mark went out of his way to explain how the pricing on the system as well as the monitoring contract worked so that we understood. Price is not necessarily the deciding factor for me, but I have a real thing about people being upfront and clear with charges and fees. That's how I conduct business in my line of work and that's what I expect from people I do business with. To this point everything Mark's said about pricing has proven accurate. I really appreciate that. We added a few extra window contact points as well as two smoke/fire alarms, so that's why our system was $400 instead of $99. It's all modular so you can add pieces later, but that ends up costing more because then it's a service call. But you really can get a basic system for $99 as long as the deal's in place. We set our installation appointment for a couple of weeks later. I had had a follow-up phone conversation with Mark beforehand where he explained in detail how the monitoring part of the system worked. (I like to know these things.) The installation went off without a hitch- the installer was careful to point out where any wires or holes would be, and asked for approval before proceeding each time. The installation took several hours but not the entire day- I was able to work from home on my laptop no problem. There's an alarm siren in the attic, a box in the closet, and a power pack screwed into a wall outlet- and no other wiring left exposed. I haven't had direct experience with the monitoring company to date because we have somehow managed to not have a false alarm. Our hyperactive cats don't set off the motion detector and I haven't blundered into its path in the middle of the night. I'm sure it's just a matter of time. I have called PSA to ask questions about our bill and sign up for yearly prepayment (you get a month free), and they've been very nice as well as prompt. If you're looking for a basic, straightforward system- you really can't do better than this. I've made it a point to mention PSA to my homeowner and about-to-be-homeowner friends.

My family decided to change our security system to a cellular-web based system with local monitoring and when I called up Marc at Portland Security he made an appointment came out with an installer and changed over our system. We had a slight hic up when our old company locked our keyboard out so no one could access it to change service, even though I owned the panel. Marc replaced the panel with a updated model and only charged me cost. I have been very impressed with the level of service that they provide when you call them you talk to a real person who deals with your problem right away. My only regret is that I didn't change over to their service years ago. Bruce

Very pleased with experience and purchase. Two installers were on time, very professional, courteous, and careful of my floors (shoes off at door). Was my first experience with a security system so had many questions, which were answered clearly and to my satisfaction. Feel the cost of installation and monitoring is reasonable. Pleased to have an extra level of protection for my home, pets, and health with the inclusion of fire and ambulance "call buttons."

From first telephone contact to final service, this company was great. Locally owned, you actually speak to someone who is responsible for something. Obviously, the prices are set up to favor a monitoring contract, which we took. Very positive experience. We had used them at our previous home too.

From the beginning to end, this company was excellent. Marc was the point person and he was easy to reach and very accomodating. He even took his shoes off when arriving at my home which I think is great. He first came out to inspect the home, gave me tips on which windows and doors to secure, and was professional the whole time. I had an alarm put on the front and back door and then at 7 other entry points in my home. The system is easy to use and has a remote control that I can turn off the unit when I am either in or out of the home. The team came out on the scheduled date, on time, did their job, and it was quick and painless work. They even cleaned up after themselves. I continue to be a happy customer.

They were very supportive and helpful. It ended up being more money than we wanted to spend. But they were very nice people.

The appointments were timely and everything was done neatly. Nothing to complain about.

They were average. It seemed like they were too busy and disorganized. As far as the monthly bills go they give us a good deal and the price was okay even on the product. It was the service we had issues with. We would probably go elsewhere just because they installed it wrong.

Great experience from the very beginning staff at the office tot he installer to the follow up has been great. we have had no problems so far and when we have called the office all of our questions have been answered. I think our house was a difficult install but the installer never complained just keep working to try and figure it out and just kept asking if he had any questions. This was a great experience and continues to be.

We normally use them and we’re really happy with them. We pay them about $45 each month for their services. We’ve been totally happy with their services. They’ve always been professional and very prompt. Whenever an alarm accidentally goes off, they’re very prompt about calling us. They seem to know all the stuff about security. We will use their services again in the future and we basically have no complaints.

We are very satisfied with Portland Security Alarm. Marc was right on with his cost estimates and was upfront and honest in his advice as to the type of alarm system we were seeking. We upgraded some of the pre-existing equipment in our home and Marc threw in some of the upgrades for free. He said they mainly sustain their business from long term contracts so service and satisfaction are very high priority for them. During the install, we had some last minute scheduling changes so the tech was a bit rushed for time. There were also some unexpected difficulties and so the tech left with several loose ends to finish. After speaking with Marc, another appointment was promptly rescheduled and the tech returned and addressed all of our concerns. Marc credited us with some more upgrades that we needed to compensate us for the inconvenience. Since the install we've had no problems or complaints with the system. We've tripped the alarms by accident a couple of times and have been satisfied by the promptness of the response with the monitoring company. Portland Security Alarms is a small business and Marc explained they recently contracted out their monitoring services with a third-party company in order to focus on installation and customer service.

They are great; awesome; I am so glad I found them. They are locally owned so their service is very personal; you talk to the owner and if you have a problem they get right back to you. I will use them again in the future.

Start to finish, all went well, everything explained in full. We were given different options before making a decision and I felt very comfortable having them in my home. We pay a monitoring fee of $43.00 a month. I feel much safer having a security system and I highly recommend Portland Security Alarm.

He was extremely nice and extremely helpful. He was very straightforward and I would use him if I had the need at this point.

We were / are extremely pleased with Portland Security Alarm. They are professional, they know their systems, they go out of their way to be certain you're satisfied. The system has been in for a few weeks now and is working just great. We also have a small dog and the motion sensor was positioned on purpose to not set the alarm off when he is roaming the house while we're away, and that works great also. Portland Security Alarm gets two thumbs up.
