Master Sweep

They arrived on time and got straight to work. The flue was stuck and they got it back working. They answered all our questions and cleaned up the area thoroughly. This was true for both the chimney sweeping and installing the chimney cap. We are satisfied and now know who to call to do the other chimney for the basement fireplace.

We called Master Sweep to estimate the cost of repairing our chimney which was missing chunks of mortar. We chose them based on cost and prior performance. Master Sweep had cleaned the same chimney previously and we were pleased with their performance. Scheduling the work around Pacific Northwest rain was a challenge. Once on the books, they arrived on time, completed the work as estimated and cleaned up. They returned to install the chimney caps two weeks later. No drama - no hassle.

We started our search on Angie's List. This company received very high marks so we decided to contact them for a bid. After receiving a bid by phone for our work, we set up an appointment. Jason completed all our work, answered all our questions and discovered several problems that needed attention. He took us up on the roof to show us the problems and explain how they can best be handled. The flashing previously done by the roofers several years ago was not correctly done and the potential for leaks was certainly evident. An appointment was made to fix that problem. He arrived the following week and all work was completed. We feel much more comfortable that this time the job was done correctly.

Their service was excellent. The chain to open my damper had been broken and I was told by another chimney company that it could not be a simple repair. He was able to put on a new chimney cap and fix the chain. I did pay a little extra for the cap, but it was reasonable.

They had a $10 or $20 rebate because of Angie's List. We really liked them. We didn't compare prices. The quality was very good. They were quick and very responsive. They had good follow through. They seemed very professional. My husband really liked them.

A puzzling thing happened during their visit, however. After they'd finished cleaning things out, they told me that we were missing the door over the ash chute and that they could replace it for $125. My husband, who regularly cleans the fireplace, is both a lawyer and a competent handyman. I quickly called him and determined that the door over the ash chute was there the last time he cleaned it out. When I relayed this to the guys who did the cleaning, they insisted that one of them had pushed the ashes down the chute without any resistance (as would have been expected if the door had still been there). I stood my ground, so they backed down and installed a new one free of charge. I do not know whether this was an honest mistake or not.

They arrived during the appointment window and immediately got to work. They reported the chimney cap was missing, which we knew and had forgotten about. They made sure no soot or fireplace remains got on the carpet.

The guy came out and was not able to do the chimney sweep due to work needing to be done on our chimney. They are coming back in April to actually do the work.

I was very very pleased with the work that Master Sweep did. I spoke with a bunch of other companies and got lots of differing/conflicting advice and price estimates all over the place. The folks at Master Sweep are real straight shooters, gave good advice on what needed to be done, came out and did the work well, and then charged a very reasonable price (even a bargain considering the Angie's List coupons). The next time I need any chimney work I will call these guys first! Highly recommended.

Pretty well, concidering they only have one person answering the phone and scheduling jobs who only comes in once a week, so it was kind of difficult to communicate with them at times.

He came and looked at our chimney to give us an estimate. We told his secretary that the chimney was not freestanding, but she relayed the wrong information to him. He told us he would have to come back with another service professional to get the insert out of our chimney. We set up an appointment, but they never showed up. We tried to reach him several times, but he or his receptionist never called us back.

Looking for a good deal to have our chimney cleaned. Found them on Angies List - used the coupon. They arrived on time, did what they said they'd do, were professional, cleaned up after themselves. Will use again in the future.

I bought the coupon to have my chimney cleaned. When they came to do that, they told me we would have to remove the old wood stove in order to clean the chimney, but the fireplace behind it looked to be in good shape, so we decided to do that. We had to wait a couple of weeks to have the work done, because they needed a part, and because they have a lot of work right now. They arrived right on time and took care to keep the house clean. They took out the heavy 1970s era wood stove and got it down the steps without doing any damage. They cleaned the chimney out, including a dead beehive. They installed a new damper that will keep out rain and bees. We had our first fire, and it was great. No smoke in the room. We're very pleased.

Jason & Jeff arrived at their scheduled time. They had to pull the insert out to thoroughly clean inside and behind it. They found a lot of creosote build up as it hadnt been cleaned for 3 or 4 years and not done properly at that time by someone else. They did a thorough and complete job. Because of the age of our insert, we talked to him about the new brands of inserts and got some recommendations from him. We will definitely hire him to install a new insert when its purchased and appreciated his advice.

They swept the chimney and all seemed well. I made arrangements for them to return and install a chimney cap. We set up a date and time. They never showed on the date (although they telephoned the day before to confirm the date). Since then, they have not answered their phone or responded to repeated messages left on their answering machine. They were very professional upon the first job, but due to their lack of response and no call-no show, I am afraid I cannot recommend them.

Be very wary of this company especially as they are over scheduled due to the demand for their $97 coupon special. It took over a week to come out with their last coupon special. We had an appt for November 3 for a chimney cleaning. They book appts in 4 hour windows, convenient for them and very inconvenient for the customer. Our appt window was between 12pm and 4pm and they showed up after 4pm. The guy that came out looked down our chimney and came in and told us he'd have to bring the owner Jason back to help him remove the fireplace insert as it was too heavy for one person to remove. When I called to schedule the original appt, I told the office that we had a Lopi insert, they should have known how heavy it was before they came out. The guy that was out called Jason from his truck, came back in and told us Jason would call us later to reschedule the appt, that we would have priority since the appt could not be completed that day. Jason did not call back that day (Thursday) or the following day. On Monday, Nov 7 I called the office mid-morning since no one had bothered to call me back. I again only got voice mail. I called again mid-afternoon and surprise, Jason actually answered the phone. He seemed unconcerned and unapologetic. Please keep in mind we were concerned about when they would return so we didn't burn any wood in our insert since our prior appt. Jason said they would come out on Wednesday Nov 9 (a week after the initial incomplete appt) again between 12pm and 4pm. On Nov 9, we removed everything on the fireplace hearth and everything around the area where they would be working, so by 12pm, the living room is torn up and the house is cold! At 430pm, when they hadn't shown up, I called the office again and surprise, I got voice mail again. They did not call nor did they show up. Please keep all this information in mind when you try to take advantage of what seems like a good deal for a $97 chimney sweep. Today I will start again to find someone who is professional and prompt and actually wants our business!

Master Sweep was hired to sweep my chimney. I was their only appointment of the day, but the gentleman seemed like he was in a great hurry. I asked that he look for a leak in the chimney. He found it and claimed that he had repaired it. Another contractor who was doing work on the chimney found the work that was done and said that it was done poorly with just a bead of caulk. I feel that he was taking advantage of Angie's List. I wouldn't hire him, nor would I recommend him based on his attitude.

He did a good job. He had extra protection to keep my carpets clean. I was very satisfied.
