There was nothing in particular about his service that struck out that I liked or disliked. I put him in random. I just liked him. He was going to help us with the house we were going to build. Then we decided to buy one and then extend. I just called him and he created this beautiful deck and fence work. He did very nice work. He was really conscientious, he took his time but he worked brilliantly with his staff. His work was also beautiful. He even gave me his custom gate; I was not expecting the custom gate. The price was good and fair, I had other estimates. Quality of work was excellent and beautiful. I would absolutely use him again in the future.

It went as any construction job should go. They were on time, and did the job as expected and more. I would highly recommend them.

We received four quotes for the fence. Jason was the most professional: he showed up as scheduled, on time, asked questions about what we needed with the gate, showed us photos and then provided a detailed quote in an e-mail two days later. A check-in meeting a few days before the work began allowed us to walk thru the property again, review the job and confirm details. The work was completed on schedule, on budget, with high quality material and it is beautiful. They cleaned up the work site and did a great job. You will be very happy if you hire Jason.

Overall, exceptional. I never imagined or suspected a fence could bring so much happiness.

The overall experience with Black Diamond Fencing was extremely professional. Both him and the other workers were very punctual and skilled. After placing the posts, they were able to get the fence up within 9 hours. Since we did not have him stain the fence, he suggested what stain to use and the equipment. We are both very pleased with their work and will request them to any of our friends or neighbors. Our fence is the nicest looking fence in the entire neighborhood. They not only build fences but decks, trellises, and planter boxes. Definitely will use them again if needed. If you want a contractor that keeps you informed, is highly skilled and will be there when he says he is going to be there, Black Diamond Fencing is the way to go.

Excellent experience overall. Jason came over the day I spoke to him on December 8, and e-mailed me his estimate that evening. Work began on December 13, and was completed, as promised, on December 21. Jason and Kevin showed up each weekday morning, as promised, beginning on December 13, and completed a phase of the total project each day. Their daily completion was totally in line with what they told me would happen. What I really appreciated was their willingness to hear my feedback as they worked, to listen to some suggestions I made as the work progressed, and make adjustments to meet my needs, and still stay within the cost estimate. What also impressed me was the time and attention to detail that Jason and Kevin demonstrated. They did not make this a rush job; rather, they took their time to ensure the fence would be a quality build. This they did accomplish, and I am very pleased.

It all went very smoothly once the rental company agreed to pay their share of the shared fence. See above for the details of the project. The downside was my neighbor and I asked for the estimate in August and it took until November to get the project done but that was the rental company's fault-not ours or Jason's (Black Diamond owner)

First let me say, that our job involved some fairly unusual challenges. I wanted to build as sustainably (green) as possible. That involved my purchasing the decking and fence lumber from Urban Lumber. This lumber was cut to order and made from salvaged incense cedar trees - very local. Support woods were supplied by Black Diamond. I also wanted to use a stain/finish that would both last and was very low toxic to people and the environment. Jason, the owner of Black Diamond was willing to work with me from the start, and is a nice guy. I liked him, and what I saw (photos) of his work. Although his strength and experience was primarily in fencing and not decking, and decking was the bigger part of this job, I wanted to go with him. Jason came in high on his bid, but brought it down to a near match of what another contractor bid who I was also seriously considering. These bids were still quite a bit higher than the lowest bid I got, but the contractor with the lowest bid did not instill confidance in my wife or I and we really didn't want to work with him. The tear out and build were scheduled separately, so as to allow time for us to remove ivy that was growing below and through the deck. The tear out went pretty much without a hitch. The new build went pretty well, but there were some definite hiccups. Jason was rarely on site, instead his roomat,e who was apparently a highly skilled carpenter pretty much ran the crew, and did all the heavy lifting for the build. The roomate was a temporary hirer for Black diamond, but he & Jason worked together before for Huckleberry Fence. When the roomate came he had not seen the old deck and only had Jason's instructions to go on. This only became an issue when he built benches that did not complete the edge, similar to what had existed before. Because the roomate (I am forgetting his name) was not available after a certain date, Jason had to come in and build another bench, once he realized it was his error. This took a couple of weeks because new lumber had to be ordered. We were happy with the way it turned out, but it streched the completion time. Other oversights happened as well. Many of the places deck boards should have been screwed down, had no screws. Jason had to come and do complete those not once, but twice, because he missed some of many missing places the first time. There were a few other unfinished pieces in the work my wife and I had to discover and point out, which was unfortunate and showed some sloppiness in completion and a lack of thoroughness. The work felt rushed because it was the height of their busy season. Okay, understandable, and I would probably give Black Diamond a B for the build. The real problem came in with the staining. A different crew head came in to do this, after I had ordered and received the stain, something called TimberOx Green. The crew finished the job in a few hours, but it was really sloppy. They did not apply the stain evenly, and there were many places where the stain did not dry even days later, as it was overapplied (very thick in some places). The result was kind of sticky mess. This was definitily due in part that the stain was very diffferent than what the crew was use to working with, but still. I didn't do the staining myself because I thought it would be better to have it professionally done, but feel they did a very unprofessional, rushed job. Also, they got stain on painted parts of the house, and that after I had specifically mentioned this concern and was reassured it wouldn't happen. I would probably give D or an F for the staining. I would never have them do it again We have had many back and forths with Jason and the stain manufacturer as to how to remedy the issue, and Jason has said he wants us to be happy, but his frustration with us was palpable. He alternately blamed his crew and the stain. After trying several things, with only some success, we eventually decided to see how the stickiness would weather off. It mostly has now, but the job is messy. An underlying concern, is that through it all Jason often would say he would do something or make sure it got done, but then would not follow through. This included calling the stain manufacturer to discuss with them what actions might be taken. I was the only one who talked to the manufacturer. Nor did Jason call me to follow up and see if we what the result was of the latest intervention, or if we were happy with the deck work. He always waited for me to call. In an instance, where his company made so many errors and mishaps on an expensive job, I would expect better service in this way. As it was, we had very limited use of our deck during the summer months, as the ongoing problems went on for weeks and weeks. The deck and fence are beautiful, and overall we are quite happy, but the process and the result have been a real mixed bag with this company. As I mentioned, I would not use them again for staining, but would consider them for builds, particularly fence work. I'd be somewhat less likely to use them for a deck build unless it is a repair.

His name was Jason, he is a young guy. He was very prompt in coming out. It is a house we own but my son lives in so he dealt with them more. They were thorough and did a good job. They ran into some things they didn't anticipate because there was a lot of vegetation in the yard that made it difficult. We didn't ask them to stain it or seal it, but he talked about products he used and it was very helpful. He was very agreeable and prompt. We are very pleased with the job he did. I didn't really price compare, but for the amount of fence it seemed like a good price. They were out within 24 hours from when I made the call and they were actually about 10 minutes early on the day they started the job. They did have to adjust a little because of the weather. I was very impressed overall. If I had a need in the future, I would call them first.

Awesome! They came out and gave the estimate within a couple days of us contacting them. As soon as we gave the okay, they came within a week to do the posts one day and then came back 2 days later to finish the job. Very fast, efficient and completely professional. Fence looks great and is exactly what we were wanting. Would definitely use them again and/or refer them to anyone that needs fencing work done.

Jason and his coworker showed up on schedule and completed the work as proposed. The only reason I gave him a B for quality is because my dog was still able to dig out at his favorite escape location. However, when my wife informed Jason of this, he arrived the same day and remedied the problem. I found him and his partner easy to my work with and innovative in their approach to my problem. I had received two other wstimates, both which were at least double that of Jason.
