Description of Work: Constructed 10' x 12' deck and 185' foot fence of clear cedar. | |The crew had to initially remove the 50 year old fence and deck. In addition they removed old concrete piers from a piece of the fence no longer intact. The new deck and fence construction were constructed beautifully. I had two small concerns which were addressed quickly and completed to my satisfaction. | |Staff were professional and made suggestions concerning the design and placement of the new fence. Everything was cleaned up beautifully. In addition, they constructed a temporary fence to contain my dog since the fence construction required a over a week to complete.

We got several quotes from 4 different fencing companies before getting our 5th, and last quote from Evergreen. They came in significantly cheaper than any other fencing company, and had about the same costs as most with the price of the actual material. We removed the original fence ourselves to save money. They came late in the day on Thursday and in about 3 hours had all the post holes dug, posts in, and set with concrete. The next day they arrived near noon (again late in the day) but in about 5 hours had the entire 144 feet of vinyl fence done. The results were beautiful. They even cleaned up the posts from any over pour, and wiped all the dirt off the fence posts (due to my dogs' noses and paws the night before) before leaving site. The only critique I have (and it is really minor) is I would like to have known what time they were going to arrive, and to check in with us before they left on the final day so we could have walked the job if there were any issues. Of course there were no issues at all. Other than that, it was a stunning job and we plan to bring them back when we can afford to do the rest of the 400+ feet of fence next year.

The owner, Dick Boyle, came to look at the fence the day after I called. He provided a plan on how to fix the problem and a quote within 24 hours. Work was scheduled and he showed up with the crew to review the work. Trenching on the neighbor's side was fast and clean to bring the retaining wall upright again. There was no indication that they had been there; no damage to grass or wood chips in a play yard. Replacement of rotted posts was extensive, but done thoroughly with new cement. The next day they discovered that by replacing the posts, the old fence sections would no longer fit . Dick approved providing new sections at no additional expense. The large tree, right on the property line, needed a section of chain link to accommodate tree growth while not giving up any footage of property. The crew was careful to secure the chain link so my small dog could not sneak under or around. Cleanup was immaculate. All old cement and wood was removed, the area was raked smooth. I have invited the neighbors to come and look at the job if they are contemplating any fencing or deck work. Evergreen was great to work with.
Description of Work: Trenched neighbor's property where dirt and gravel was pushing retaining wall over. Replaced several sections of fence with new posts and boards, created a chain link section of fence to support fence around a large tree.

Dick came out after hours and weekends to meet my schedule. I was a bit baffled on what I could do with the way my area was graded and where the underground power was marked, etc. I ended up needing to get someone else to grade the area and I needed to build a short retaining wall to get what I wanted which delayed getting started with Evergreen, but of course, once that was done, I wanted the fence in right away. Through several unscheduled family emergencies and unavoidable scheduling conflicts, it didn't get started as early and finished later than would have been ideal - but there wasn't anything anyone could have anticipated. His installer was top-notch and the quality was worth the occasional delay in scheduling; and it was obvious that Dick was on top of it. A last minute change on my part (wanting the 10' gate to hinge on the opposite side right as they were ready to install it), probably should have delayed the completion by at least a day, but they rushed and brought in help and got it done. That rushed part of the job is still good work, but it is clear that the quality of the work was less important that day. Overall, they cleaned up well, treated my property and time with respect, and I felt heard and important to them. Good job - would recommend.

Dave (owner) performed the estimate and provided a bid the next day via email. I accepted via email. He suggested a date which I accepted, again via email. I left the signed bid and half payment first work day. When I came home that evening the majority of the work was done: a fence which had failed in a couple of places was now straight. The work included moving some hardscape and shrubs, all with minimum amount of disruption.

Went fine. The original fence contained a few height particularities that caused some confusion in the bid, but we bridged all of those gaps. The workman were courteous and patient as the wife made some decision on the fly as to what she really wanted. They also discovered a buried sprinkler head and damaged a sprinkler line putting in a post, which they repaired for a modest cost. We did not bid the job around, but our sense was Evergreen was competitive and the quality of the work was excellent.

They were pleasant and professional on the phone. Dick came out to write up an estimate. I described to him that I was looking for "practical quality". I wanted good craftsmanship, but wasn't looking for a piece of art. I wanted them to frame the deck and stairs, and I would install the decking and build the railings. I specifically specified that I wanted appropriate hot dipped galvanized or powder coated fasteners used with the ACQ pressure treated lumber. Dick spoke to those points well, his bid was slightly less than Rick's Fencing, and I felt they were a good fit for what we wanted. I agreed to the bid. Two men came to do the work. The weather was horrible the entire time, I felt badly having them work in those conditions. The slope was steep and the rain and hail made for muddy unpleasant conditions. I called Dick to see about getting some hay bales out to keep the mud down and reduce the chance of one of them slipping and getting hurt. They didn't seem to think it was necessary. They laid out the deck, which had some complicated angles and dug the holes for the footings. I had asked for the cardboard tubes to be used and elevated a bit over grade so I could backfill with topsoil afterward. They did this. The first indication of a problem was that they mixed the concrete way to wet, to the point that it was soupy. This resulted in the post brackets setting up crooked and sinking into the concrete. There is really no excuse for this. With the cardboard tubes in place, a pair of sticks across the tube will ensure a perfect placement and setup of the post brackets. I didn't say anything at the time - but I should have. I was trying to avoid confrontation. Things started going south from there. They sistered a main beam because it was rather long, but used an inadequate number of fasteners (something like 3 lag screws) to sister a pair of 4x8 beams. The majority of the joist-to-beam connections split out where they toe-nailed them (I added H-clips myself to account for it). They didn't split the angles at the 45 degree rim joist joints, leaving an awkward connection. When they built the stairs, they used 3 inch gold screws instead of ACQ rated fasteners. I brought this to their attention and they responded with something like they just do what Dick tells them combined with comments about how they've been doing it for 20 years, so it must be OK. They were fairly confrontational about this, so I just replaced the screws myself. Half of the gold screws had already corroded to the point that they broke as I backed them out! It took me a long time (too long, several months) to get the decking installed and finally get started on the stairs. At this point I noticed that the stringers were very out of square, as much as 1/4" over 10 inches. At this point I called Dick rather upset, this being the final straw. He came out and agreed they were bad and did a few other checks and found some other problems he wasn't happy with (stairs weren't level). I expressed concern that if the same guys came out that they would be angry and not do any better work, possibly worse. Dick said if they did that they wouldn't work for him again. The same guys showed up and within a few minutes started yelling at me. I asked why they were yelling, to which one responded "You need to be yelled at." I told them they could leave as I didn't want them working on my home if that was how they felt about it. They apologized and cooled down. They explained that the reason the stringers were out of square was because the boards had shrunk in the weather over the several months I left them without decking to tie them together. This makes some sense with stringers as they vary in width with the stair cut outs. This certainly accounted for some of the problem, and that was my fault. However, the pencil lines were still clear on the boards, and the cuts were more than an 1/8" off in places, so it wasn't all warpage, but they refused to accept any responsibility for that, again citing their 20 years of experience as evidence that it must be right. In the end, Dick cut the stringers himself and they were square (if a bit shorter than they should have been in the run of the stair treads). The crew installed them with screws I provided and left without a word when they were done. I only had a few additional corrections to make after they finished. Dick did not charge me anything extra and offered to pay for the screws, but I declined, just ready to be done with it (as I'm sure they were as well). Several lessons to be learned from this for me. Some of this was my fault. However, I was extremely disappointed with the general quality of the craftsmanship as a whole, the outright dishonesty about the fasteners used, and the belligerent attitude of the two guys who worked on the project. Unless price is your only concern and you aren't very particular about craftsmanship, I would recommend looking elsewhere.

Dick responded very quickly when I called. He came to the house and looked at the area to be fenced and emailed me a quote within 24 hours. We needed a large area fenced with the vinyl fencing. I was very impressed with Dick and his willingness and capability to accommodate my desire to have a fence of 30" height. The other companies I'd gotten quotes from told me the shortest I could get it was 36" because "that's how high they're made". Dick said he could do it however I wanted it because he customizes his work. This was the tipping point for me. The installer came out on the scheduled day and worked all day in stifling heat without slowing down. He set the posts the first day and returned the next day to complete it. Our lot is challenging in that it slopes, but not in a consistent manner. It was important to us to get the fence as close to the ground as we could while also keeping the top fence line looking even and good. He ended up having to individualize each board on a whole side, including the gate, in order to accomplish this. The fence is awesome! It looks great, beyond what we could have imagined. And it's going to keep little puppies safe in the boundary of our yard while allowing us to see the beauty beyond with the shorter height. The installer was professional and hard-working. He cleaned up everything very well and worked with no damage to plants. Dick was professional and tended to our needs and desires. He was very responsive and completely kept to his word. I would definitely recommend them and use them in the future.

I selected Evergreen on a very positive recommendation from a friend for whom Evergreen had done some fence work. For me, they essentially fully replaced backyard fencing at my home with a new higher quality cedar fence. Their quote was reasonable and ultimately their work was exceptional. They took a bit longer to complete the fence than promised, but all of their work was at a time of continuous heavy rain which impacted their timing and was not a significant concern for me particularly given how pleased I am with their ultimate result. I strongly recommend them and will likely have some deck replacement work done by them in the future.

Absolutely no surprises; job was scheduled and performed on time.
Description of Work: Evergreen had a 16 foot wide automatic driveway gate fabricated and installed on my driveway. They did an excellent job of installing same, with posts on both side well anchored in concrete. I have had zero problems with the gate system operation or structural issues such as sagging (it IS a heavy longish gate!)

The arena material which was sold as horse fencing did not hold the horses they broke thru it. The material they used for the deck was second rate and large knot holes developed eventually when the wood aged. All in all I felt the workman ship was inferior.

It went great! Jim Wilson visited us twice to be certain of what we wanted. Gino and Julio did the work in a very timely and professional manner.
