Description of Work: They told us that the only carpets available were those in their warehouse and the price was TWICE what we ended up having the job done for. The sales people were not very attentive, like we were a burden to help.

Description of Work: I recently got new kitchen floor covering from Crown Carpets and am very pleased with the entire experience. The salesman at the showroom was helpful in directing me to floor samples that would go with the colors in my kitchen and were within my budget. Another man came out for measurements of the kitchen, breakfast room, and back hall. We discussed the difference between continuing with the coving that was in place vs. going with a flat floor covering and getting baseboards installed. I was told that the company could supply baseboards of a synthetic material, but decided to have wooden baseboards installed by a carpenter. Doing away with the coving reduced the price considerably, and I was also given a 10% senior discount AND a 10% Angie's List discount, bringing the total cost for the two rooms and the hall to $1942. The contract stipulated that the installers would move the stove and refrigerator but that all other furniture should be moved by the owner. I was unable to move a few heavier items such as two bookcases and the breakfast room table, and the two installers cheerfully moved them and put them back when finished. Removing the coving required quite a bit of time and effort, but they knew what they were doing. On both of the two days the job required they showed up promptly and worked efficiently, were friendly and considerate, and left everything neat and clean after a good job of installing the new flooring. I had used Crown Carpets once before, for kitchen flooring for a rental property, and will definitely use them again for any future carpeting or other floor covering I might need. They have a very good selection of both. I would recommend them to anyone else.

After getting a quote from Lowe's and reading some negative reviews, I decided to see what carpeting would cost at a local company. Ron at Crown Carpets was helpful and gave me a quick estimate for the same carpet I had picked out at Lowe's - except for the one remnant. Even with an installation sale at Lowe's, Lowe's overall price was higher and had a lot of extra fees. Ron came out to measure (without an extra fee) and had a cost quote for me the next day. I did pay an extra fee to have furniture moved. A crew of two installed my carpet in less than a day. I stayed home while they moved the furniture and removed some of the old carpet. I left before they finished removing the old carpet and during the installation. When I returned they had the job almost completed. They did a nice job of putting everything back in place - furniture and closet doors. They cleaned up nicely. Overall, I am very happy with the quality of carpet and pad and the installation. My only complaint would be that the installers were careless during the removal of the old carpet. They damaged a corner of my stone fireplace hearth and bumped loose a corner of a baseboard. The installers didn't tell me about the damages and I didn't report them to the company.
Description of Work: Stainmaster Carpet installed in two bedrooms, hall and living room. Third bedroom installed with a carpet remnant recommended to be a better than the Stainmaster.

They stayed very late in the evening to finish the job. Only one of the workers spoke English, and it wasn't very good at that. I decided not to have a part of the job done. They arbitrarily decided that part of the job was only worth $500. I disagreed, and they refused to provide any explanation as to how they arrived at that amount. By minimizing the amount of that part of the work, they were able to maximize the amount I owed.
Description of Work: This company has a separate company do the installations. The installation contract is written totally in favor of the installation business. For example, if you have a dispute with them, and it turns out you are right, you are still responsible for ALL OF THE LEGAL AND COURT COSTS etc. I should have read the contract more carefully, as should everyone. They have a lawyer that they keep on retainer so it costs them virtually nothing for their legal fees. They were very unresponsive, and would wait until a deadline and then send me a nasty legal notice saying I had better respond within 24 hours or they would refer the matter to court. This was after sitting on a letter of mine for 12 months. I was trying to work it out with them and they just used their legal clout and threats to force me to give in. It was terrible.

Response from Crown Carpets Inc
Member's claims are factually inaccurate. He committed to buy products that Crown was obligated to order specially for his project. After the products arrived and had been paid for by Crown, Member changed his mind and reduced the scope of the job. Crown's supplier required that a restocking fee equal to 20% of the product value be paid as a condition of allowing the product to be returned. Crown reduced Member's bill by the amount Member had been quoted for that specific portion of the project, less the restocking fee. Crown Carpets does not keep an attorney on retainer. Crown will resort to using legal recourse only when every other means of collecting legitimately owed past due amounts from customers has failed.

We purchased carpeting from Crown Carpeting. After the installation we were in disbelief when we noticed how bad the carpet held the deep impressions left by are foot prints. We could even clearly see cat paw prints everywhere from our 3 cats which only weigh several pounds. The amazing part was that the carpet had zero bounce back even after several days. It looked horrible and it was obvious that the carpet was not manufactured to proper carpeting standards. This was a nightmare for us. The carpet we were replacing (which was 22 year old carpeting purchased at Crown) looked much better than our brand new carpeting. The good news is that the owner of Crown, David Kempenich, came out and looked at the carpeting and stayed on top of the process of getting a sample to the manufacturer. David was outstanding on staying in touch with us during this process. We were totally pleased with his response and help to remedy this situation. The manufacturer agreed to replace our carpeting and pay for the installer to put in the new carpeting. David was very helpful in helping us through this and in selecting new carpeting. This is the kind of customer service that will keep us going back to Crown for all of our carpeting needs. I can t say enough about David and the way he professionally handled this situation. We are also appreciative of the carpeting manufacturer for their integrity on quality. The thought of moving all of our furniture again was a dismal situation but the way we were handled by Crown Carpets made the situation much easier to deal with. A+ to Crown Carpets and I very highly recommend them to you if you are looking for carpeting.

Two installers worked all day on the job. The lead man told me the kitchen door leading to the garage (which must be fire-resistant) would need to be trimmed because it wouldn't clear the new floor, but he cut off too much, which I discovered immediately after they left. It was so high that I had to put magazines under it to get a good closure. They did send the same man out and he attached a new threshold to the door. It doesn't look as nice as having nothing attached to the door, but it looks OK and the seal is now good. He also had to come back and replace the metal strip on the dining room carpeting with one that is flat, because the curved one we had before made a bulge that could have caused us to trip.
Description of Work: Installed a new vinyl kitchen floor. Since there were already two layers of flooring in the kitchen, they also installed a 1/4" thick board underneath the vinyl, to get firm adhesion and a level base.

The people at the store were helpful. Of the two installers, one appeared to have experience, the other was being taught while working. Uh oh. When finished, a horrible seam resulted running down the middle (main focal point) of my small living room, another in the hallway. I complained. The supervisor viewed the work, agreed that it was really bad. The store manager called stating this type of carpet commonly results with large seams. The seam appeared as though a 1.5 inch cable ran under it. A different installer came to fix (the manager shared how expensive this was to the store) the seam and was in disbelief how badly the installation was. He re-did EVERYTHING. The seam is better, but not great, and still quite visible. The installer who fixed it explained that it will never look great due to the original damage done. This was a waste of my money, time, and was quite stressful. Go elsewhere!

Paul, sales manager at Crown, gave good advice. Problems started with subcontracted installer who proceeded to install half the kitchen floor without noticing flaws in the flooring product. When I pointed out the problems, he seemed inclined to ignore it. I asked Crown to send a supervisor over, who agreed with me that it wasn't my job to do quality control on the job. The only solution was to reorder the wood, take out the half-installed floor and do it over again(which really ticked off the installer). Three weeks later, we started over; the installer was rude and constantly muttered swear words as he did the work and was in a hurry to leave. I wouldn't pay the final check until he did a better job of finishing the installation of baseboards, which looked really shoddy. I called Crown again, the supervisor came out and agreed it wasn't good enough. A week later we got a new installer to do the finish work and they finally got paid. Lesson learned: supervise subcontractors.

Unbelievably easy. Larry and Andy were the two installers who did a beautiful job, in one day, with removing my old carpet and pad, moving furniture and making the job a pleasure instead of a dread...they are the best guys to have install, with years of experience, pleasant, fast and neat as a pin. They clean up after and leave you feeling you got your money's worth. Rick the salesman was also extremely knowledgeable as he has also been an installer for years so knows what he is talking about. Would definitely use them again.

Bruce Newman arrived on time and was very friendly and professional. He used a special jack system to move our appliances, ensuring there would be no damage to the new floor. He did not rush his work and spent considerable time prepping the existing floor before installing the new vinyl flooring. He also replaced all of the rubber basebords with a more complimentary color.

Salesman Ron Herman was very helpful and professional, encouraged me to take home samples, and made some valuable suggestions. Installer David Holman was very punctual and an excellent worker--fast, efficient, and meticulous. I appreciated his attention to detail, and how clean he left my home. He was friendly, but not overly talkative. I was amazed that he completed the entire job in only one day. I only wish that I had more jobs for David to do!

Overall they were very good. They were able to accommodate us on very short notice so we could get moved into our home. The installer was very friendly, work appears to be well done, and they cleaned up after themselves. The only thing was that we remembered at the last minute to request an updgraded pad because the salesman never asked what grade we wanted. Again they were able to accommodate. They have great pricing (no surprise installation fees as we found elsewhere). I would definitely buy from them again. Note: They were recommended by our carpet cleaner.
