I called them on a recommendation for emergency clog removal. They were pleasant on the phone, upfront on the costs, and timely with their appointment. When they arrived, they were respectful of our home, wearing boots and gloves and asking before using outlets or venturing further into the home as needed. After identifying the problem, they explained out options clearly and made their recommendation. We needed to have a 10' section of the sewer line replaced (there was a 10' section of concrete pipe between the cast iron sections which had failed). We scheduled the work as soon as they were available. There was a major storm which resulted in a lot of emergency work for them and they called and asked to reschedule, assuring me that if we experienced a backup they would come out immediately and not charge us for the emergency de-clogging. They came out as planned on the new date and very carefully removed the soil to replace the bad section of pipe. There was an ornamental maple nearby which made the job difficult. They were extremely careful and didn't touch the tree, despite being within inches of the lower-most branches. We were very grateful for the care they took with the tree. They used tarps on our driveway. They installed packed rock around the pipe to ensure a stable base and added a cleanout outside. They hauled away the excess soil (since they displaced some of it with the rock base they added). I was very pleased. The only thing they could have done better would have been to separate the topsoil so they could have placed it back on top, as it is I will have to bring in a few inches of topsoil to replant the beds. In the scope of the project, not a big deal at all. Definitely recommended.
Description of Work: They cleared a root clog in our main sewer line so we could use it until they could dig up the line and replace about 10 feet of it.

I was very happy that our drain was unclogged quickly and that Ken was willing to help diagnose our other water leak and attempted to figure it out even though it was not directly a plumbing issue and something he wouldn't be able to service. From my phone call for help to the final payment the job was well done and handled in a very professional manner.
Description of Work: We had a developed water back-up into the sink in our basement in the laundry room when using the washer. Our usual plumber was unavailable for the next couple of days and they recommended us to Drain Away Rooter. I called on 10/18 and Kyle, who answered the phone, was very pleasant and said they were also booked but could send someone out tomorrow and would call me if he had any cancellations. The following afternoon, during the time period quoted, I was called beforehand and informed the plumber was on they way. He arrived about 5 minutes later. Ken was very courteous, prepared and thoughtful. He went right to work snaking the drain and we discussed another issue regarding a water leak around our furnace that has turned out to be the humidifier. This, as it turns out, is a job for our heating & cooling service but Ken was very helpful in trying to diagnose this problem as well even though it turned out not to be a plumbing issue. I felt very confident in his knowledge and abilities and also felt that the cost was very reasonable. Our plumbing problem is fixed plus we now know what direction to go to resolve our other water problem.

Excellent. They were incredibly responsive on the phone and scheduled a Saturday appointment , which was really convenient. Their guy showed up on time, was very conscientious about cleaning up and was respectful of the house. He had the drain unclogged and working quickly. Although they weren't able to fix the upstairs toilet, they did help me identify what was wrong and they didn't charge me for it.
Description of Work: Our downstairs shower wasn't draining and the upstairs toilet had a flushing issue. Drain away rooter unclogged the downstairs drain and helped me identify what was wrong with the upstairs toilet.

Troy from Drain Away was able to fix the problems left by another contractor. Working systematically he was able to find the root causes of two blockages (literally a root in one case). The job involved testing 10 downspouts to localize the problem, attempting increasingly aggressive clean out methods and eventually in one case rebuilding part of the drainage system that was no longer functional. This company tackled a tough job, worked diligently to get the problems fixed and were friendly and courteous throughout the project.

Initially, I had called the company to check out an odd drain detail in the basement of my parents' house. A previous plumbing company (won't name them here but they are expensive, unresponsive and look for ways to take you for a ride) took advantage of my parents, as I look back on the work completed originally. The plumbing behind the shower wall had been replaced, along with a new shower head and faucet. I noticed that the shower head was always loose. I am in the process of selling my parents' house and had a home inspection. I don't want to sell the house if there are things wrong with it. The shower head fixture and the hole in the hall closet wall where the shower plumbing is located came up on the inspection report, along with a grip-wrench being left on the basement drain, apparently holding it together.First, I did a little research on plumbing companies, wasn't going to use the company that did the original work. I found Drain Away Rooter, read the Angie's List reviews and decided to call. The staff answering the phones were great; put me in touch of scheduling immediately. Set the appointment for the next day, that's right, I called on Monday, and Ken Stilgebouer was out this morning, Tuesday. Incredible. Ken quickly diagnosed the problem with the basement sink; the other plumbing company employee had left it on there...apparently forgot to take the grip-wrench with him. Then, I showed Ken the shower head, the left over hole in the closet wall and asked what he could do. He investigated the problem and came and talked to me about what was wrong and what he could do. The previous company had used a two winged holding mechanism rather than a three winged holding. Plus, the other plumber had only used one screw, that didn't set flush with the fitting, and another that never got screwed in all the way. Ken showed me and explained everything. I asked him to fix it. He went right to work. After about 20 minutes, Ken explained that he needed to go to "Ferguson's", specialty plumbing supply that plumbers use, to get a three winged holding mechanism and a new inside mount with threads. He was back within 15 minutes. He fixed everything. Put new 2x4 planking in the cavity, new 3 winged mechanism, everything. He left it looking professional and neat. No screws hanging out, etc. He even brought in his special filtering shop vac to clean up his mess, even though my vacuum was sitting right there. Now that is a good worker!

I was referred to Drain Away in my research for getting our sewer line replaced. I called and scheduled a quote, they were very flexible and courteous on scheduling the time and gave me a window for them to arrive. The scheduled day came and the representative of the company arrived and said "I hope they told you it would be $185 to get a quote". I was shocked as it was never mentioned that I would have to pay $185 to get a quote for the opportunity to spend thousands with the company. I've received 2 previous quotes from other providers without charge, so I was really surprised by this. It is pretty unprofessional to not mention this up front when being schedule and $185 seems a bit ridiculous for generating a quote. I realize that someone's time is involved, however it is the "cost of doing business"...and $185? Really? For something that takes 30-minutes of time (based on previous quotes), so I am paying $370/hr for the honor of having this guy run a camera in my sewer line to tell me how much it would cost to repair/replace it? There was no mention if this fee would be credited back if we agreed to have them do the work or not. Overall, I didn't even bother having the guy come in the house...reality is he didn't seem very interested in coming in. I will take my business elsewhere, nice to know that someone is doing so well that they can turn customers away. In my line of work (consulting and sales) I would never be able to charge the customer up front for the chance to quote services for them.

Our laundry and utility sink backed up. I called Drain Away first thing in the morning, and they set up a two hour window for same day service. A few hours later, Kyle called to let me know they could get there earlier if it was alright with me. Jake arrived early, and unclogged the problem in a timely manner. To make sure that the problem was fixed, he ran the washer and utility sink multiple times. When finished, he left the area clean if not cleaner than it was before. Great experience with the company and Jake. We will use them again for any future clogs.

I have a duplex that was vacant. My cleaning lady told me two of the drains were slow draining so I called Drain Away. They had been recomended by my plumbers. I called them and they came out the next day and got the drains draining again. I was able to take care of everything on the phone. Very easy people to work with.

I had asked Black Cat Plumbing for the name of a good plumber. They recommended Drain Away. Although it wasn't an emergency, the plumber was at the house within about three hours of when I called to make an appointment. He had the drain cleared in a few minutes, and charged us a "senior rate," which was considerably less than I expected to pay a plumber for a house call. The plumber was personable and friendly, and we had a good chat while he was working. The problem was completely solved, and has not recurred.
Description of Work: I had a plug in a shower stall that couldn't be move with a plunger, drain cleaner, or the small snake I had on hand. Drain Away corrected the problem.

Went well, less hassle than I had anticipated. Very noisy and dirty with the concrete cutter and resulting dust. Ken had 2 helpers here the first day, worked alone the second day. I never saw him stop to rest. He did have to wait for the inspector, but that part of the process went smoothly too. He even recommended someone to restore the paneling on the wall, and replace the ceiling in the closet. I would recommend tis outfit to anyone for a plumbing problem. In fact, I expect to call them again when it is time to replace the water heater.
Description of Work: Drain from kitchen sink was plugged somewhere in the line to the sewer. After removing a section of corroded cast iron pipe and using the camera, Ken, the plumber discovered that the pipe was draining into the ground. The cast iron pipe had to be replaced, which was 30 feet approximately. This involved going through a closet ceiling (basement), under a stairwell, behind a paneled wall, and digging up about 8 feet of concrete. Took most of one day to get to the plumbing part of the job. They got the pipes in, put in two clean out covers for easier access in the future and replaced the concrete, took away all the waste and left me with a functioning sink, a less serious access problem for the sewer line, and a restored patio floor.

I discovered a broken pipe late one night and called DrainAway, leaving a message with their answering service. Shane called back within 15 minutes and went through options with me. He talked us through a temporary stop-gap measure for the night and had a plumber there at 8:00 am the next morning. They replaced a section of pipe and found a second problem area with a small leak, which they replaced also for only the cost of the parts.

I hired Drain Away because a different contractor had suggested, in looking at my front yard, that I might have a break in the sewer line. I knew that a previous owner of my house had had to replace the sewer line so I was concerned that this might happen again. Drain Away came out promptly and quickly dispelled my fears by showing me that there was a break, but it was not within my area of responsibility. Of course I was greatly relieved and later took the videotape they gave me to the city of Portland Bureau of Maintenance. A few weeks later the bureau came out and did its own scoping and confirmed that Drain Away was correct. After that they repaired the break.
Description of Work: Hired Drain Away to come out and scope the sewer line from the house to the street. I called the company the day before on the recommendation of a plumber. Ken, the technician, arrived promptly and went to work outside on a drizzly, chilly January day. He worked continuously and explained anything to me about which I had a question. He set up the camera and equipment and started running the camera/scope through the sewer line. He showed me what he saw and explained that in his opinion, there was a break in the line caused by tree roots, and the break was in the city right of way, not on my property. To confirm his opinion and to double check the work, he ran the scope through for a second time. When he was done he gave me a videotape of the work which he suggested I bring to the city of Portland in order to alert them to the break in the line. The work of Drain Away was excellent in all respects.

We noticed water coming up through the basement drain of our 119-year-old home. We called a local plumber, explained the situation, and he recommended Drain Away Rooter. They came out that afternoon and snaked the line for two hours. When it became clear that would not do the trick, they told us they'd return first thing in the morning with a commercial jet. They recommended we remove any items from the area we did not want to get wet or mucked up. They left at 6:30p.m., and as promised, arrived just before 7 a.m. the next morning. They finished up in ~90 minutes and left us with a video (!) of the line. With both visits they professionally and politely, but firmly, made it clear: disinfecting and baby wipes are NOT flushable! The cement sewer line in our old home, in addition to general age-related pitting, has a few bends where waste material can get hung up.
Description of Work: Snaked (2 hours) and then, when that did not sufficiently clear the line, used commercial water jet to clean main sewer line.

They came and attempted to clear the drain. Ran the full length of the plumbers snake three times and found no hair or unusual stuff. Unfortunately, they were unable to get it cleared. They suggested that perhaps old the galvanized pipes in this older house are corroded so much on the inside that they are constricting the flow. Repairing would involve tearing out ceiling and walls, which we were not in a position to do at the time. Did not feel dissatisfied with their service, but was disappointed that a better outcome did not result.

I am having a problem with movement on my property and it was suggested I have the drain lines checked for any breaks. I called Drain Away and they were really great on the phone and set up an appointment for the next day. They called and came out as scheduled. A camera line was run down the sewer line and that was perfect. Next a line was run down a raindrain line and that was great too. No answer to my problem but he made two calls for me trying to find out who could help me. Very nice company, great personnel. I appreciated the help and great attitude!

Description of Work: Had a leak in my 80 year old sewer pipe going from my house out to the street. Field rep was timely, friendly, knowledgeable and efficient. Used a camera scope to determine the state of the sewer connection to our house. Explained everything he saw to us (and the neighbors who were just curious). Explained what the city's responsibilities were for repair, answered questions we had about the process of repair and "party-line" sewer connection issues. Generally easy to work with. Much appreciated his expertise.

Quote on the phone was for 235.00. Service person did work, and raised price after the fact without consultation. End price was 365.00. They did get the main pipe open. Found an offset pipe, estimate for repair proved to be much higher than actual work needed. Did not have them do repair. Repair required 30 minutes of digging and 15 minutes of labor for the repair. Drain Away wanted $600.00 for this. In addition, House toilet plugged 2 days after there visit. I called them about this, and they said they did not have a guarantee for work performed. I perceived the owner to be hostile on the phone. I did not feel they cared about having a satisfied customer.

I HAD A VERY GOOD EXPERIENCE WITH DRAIN AWAY ROOTER. SHANE WAS EXTREMELY PROFESSIONAL, AND KNOWLEDGEABLE. HE WAS ABLE TO EXPLAIN EXACTLY WHAT HE WAS DOING, AND WENT INTO DETAIL ABOUT THE TYPE OF PIPE I HAD. HE ANSWERED ANY QUESTIONS I HAD. TO TOP IT OFF, HE WAS REASONABLY PRICED. AFTER ASKING ABOUT HIS BUSINESS I FOUND THAT HE HAS BEEN IN THE INDUSTRY FOR 12 YEARS. HE OPENED HIS OWN BUSINESS TWO YEARS AGO. HE IS A FAMILY OPERATION RAN BY HIMSELF WITH HIS WIFE IN THE OFFICE, AND SOME PART TIME HELP. IF I EVER HAD ISSUES WITH ANY DRAINS OR SEWER LINES, I WOULD NOT HESITATE TO USE DRAIN AWAY ROOTER AGAIN. WOULD RECOMMEND THEM TO ANYONE.
Description of Work: I HAD DRAIN AWAY ROOTER PERFORM A VIDEO SEWER SCOPE BEFORE I PURCHASED MY HOUSE. SHANE CAME OUT, AND LOCATED AN OUTSIDE CLEAN OUT.
