The technician arrived promptly and unclogged our toilet quickly. They gave us advice about the products we use that might have caused the problem (flushable wipes for our small child). the technician also checked to make sure everything else was working fine.

The service technician came out very quickly and cleared my tub. I was super impressed with the knowledge that the tech had and felt very confident in his abilities. I will only call Roto-Rooter when I need work done. I didn't know until that day that Roto-Rooter also did plumbing. You can guarantee that I will recommend this company to my friends.

It didnt go as planned . He came out the next day. No travel charge because we are in the service area. No hourly charge. Did the easy job in 20 minutes, about Six feet of pipe. The materials were unknown cost not on bill. Labor was $250 for 20 min. Or $750 per hour. I believe he took advantage of my wife on the cost. I called to complain but three calls to a supervisor who said they were on another line and would call back, never happened! Very unhappy about surprises and no call back!

Response from Roto-Rooter Plumbing & Water Cleanup
We strive for 100% customer satisfaction with all of our customers. I know that our plumber quoted pricing prior to starting any work. As the customer was quoted prior to dispatching our plumber, this was a free, no obligation, estimate. At any time prior to work starting, the customer had the option of sending our plumber on his way, no questions asked. Once the price was approved, the plumber had to enter the crawl space that was very damp with an abundance of loose insulation, twice. The customer signed the invoice and paid with a credit card at time of service. The signed invoice has a list of all parts used as well as the total cost for parts. The signed invoice also has a time record of this visit, which has been verified using our vehicles GPS system. If the customer needs another copy, we would be more than happy to provide that for them. The customer has called our office three times to my knowledge, and each call was returned as soon as we were able. The last phone call was a phone conversation between the customer’s father and myself. I told the father that I would be more than happy to speak to the home owner at his convenience, but have yet to receive a return phone call. As always, we strive to keep an open and clear line of communication. We look forward to resolving all of our customers concerns and look forward to hearing from you soon. Technician showed up when scheduled, heard my concerns (I thought I had a blockage in rain-gutter drains that I thought ran across my back yard). Using my garden hose he located my drain exits (which I was surprised to find were not even on my property!) and verified that all were free-flowing. He verified that I did NOT need his sewer-snaking or repair services, charged me only for the service call, gave me a few tips to avoid future problems, and was gone in about one hour. The technician was clean, respectful and polite. I'd use this firm again.

When I called and requested assistance I got an immediate appointment. I got a gentleman that had been here and done work for me before. He let me know that the shutoff valve was not working but did not try to add that to the appointment. He was quick, clean and efficient. Perhaps it was his speed that made me think of the price being a bit high.

The Roto-Rooter tech arrived one hour after our telephone service request as promised. He was professional, efficient. The entire job took about 30 minutes. He was proactive and walked around the house twice with my husband after completing the work to verify all drains functioning. Would recommend with comment that as others have observed, Roto-Rooter is expensive but apparently worth it in that they have a niche market and deliver timely good work to homeowners with urgent needs.

They were wonderful on the phone and the plumber showed up lickety split. He was polite and professional and fast and pleasant and seems to have done a great job! Even asked if everything else in the house was working ok. I only take issue with the price. Seems a tad high but he did honor my Angie's coupon even though I didn't have it printed out. My husband says "you can get something done well, done fast, or done cheap but you can only get two of those things at one time" It was done well and done fast. And I could be WAY off on the price. It has been a long time since we needed a plumber and this could be in line with today's market price. All in all, I am ecstatic that our bathroom is functional and that they came out fast and did a great job with a professional attitude.

Made an appt., Walter came on the day/hour and did the work. Didn't take long, very nice fellow, heater works fine now. Good job!! Also, Randy came earlier this summer and installed new sewer pipe in the crawl space where we had a leak. Again, very professionally done, Cleaned up mess, also fixed the sprayer in kitchen sink. Fine chap and very good work. We were impressed with both calls. Cost of this one was 550.00 (I think). The price on both seemed high to me, but plumbing repairs are usually expensive so I wrote it off to old age miserliness and ended it. I would certainly use Roto Rooter again.

This went very well. RotoRooter was able to send someone within an hour of my call and the job was complete within 1/2 hour after arrival, including removing the utility sink to get to the pipe, putting the auger through the plumbing to the other end of my house, and re-attaching the sink. I was promised a 6 month guarantee on the work and given a suggestion for prevention. A job well done, quickly and professionally.

First of all, I didn't have a lot of confidence in his skills. I'm not really sure if he really had done it very long. He is friendly enough, but a little bit of rough in terms of not really explaining things well. It has nothing to do with him, but I thought the company overcharged me a lot. I think, it's twice as much. They were late, but they called and explained that they had a radio problem, so they didn't get through to their men. They were several hours at the time they said they'd be there, but I'm not really sure if they're to blame for that. We would still use them again in the future, because they show up right away unlike other companies.

I called them because of their Angies List ratings and the $25 discount coupon available. When I explained the situation over the phone, they wouldn't give me an estimate over the phone, even their hourly rate. They said the person coming out would give me an estimate and I can accept it and have them do the work or decline the work and pay nothing. I was told somebody would be out in about an hour. They showed up within 45 minutes. I explained the situation, they looked at the plumbing and clear out options and then explained the options to me with an estimated cost of $167 - their minimum hourly charge. Even with the $25 coupon, it was more than I expected but I needed the service done so I decided to have them do the work. It took them about a half hour and they explained what they did and what he found. He indicated he went out approximately 75 feet, all the way to the main sewer, indicating there was "black gunk" most of the way. I paid the $142 and he left. I called several other plumbers after the work was done and realized the cost was anywhere from $10 to $30 more than others - even with the discount. Over the 27 years living in this house, I have had other clogged plumbing situations where the plumber only went as far as the main clog and things were running fine - maybe up to 20 feet - never the full distance to the main sewer line. While I paid more than expected, I feel I got a more thorough clearing of my plumbing than other times. Given the promptness and thoroughness, even though it cost a little more, I would have this company out again. They also have a six month guarantee - if my plumbing gets plugged again within six months, they'll come back out at no charge.

Their service rep, Brian, offered to snake out the drain in hopes of solving our problem. His attempt was unsuccessful and his experience suggested that the drain pipe had collapsed and repair was not possible. A replacement drain would be necessary and we were advised to consult with our landscaper to locate and tie-in a new drain with the existing system. Because Brian couldn't solve our problem, we were not charged any fee. We did appreciate that very much.

Response from Roto-Rooter Plumbing & Water Cleanup
Roto-Rooter strives for 100% customer satisfaction. In regards to this customer, our records indicate that we came to his house on Tuesday May 22nd 2012. The two technicians on site cabled the main line to attempt to clear the line. When that was unsuccessful, we used a Hydro-Jetter to clear the line of heavy sludge and roots. We then used a camera in the line to determine that the main sewer line was damaged and needed to be replaced. We did not charge the customer for the line cabling, the camera work or for the second technician. We left the customer with the understanding that the work could not be guaranteed until the line had been replaced or repaired. We were called to the address again on Saturday June 16th 2012 and cleared his main line. We were able to get the main sewer line to drain. We did not charge this customer an afterhours charge. We are more than happy to provide an estimate to get the main line repaired or replaced, whichever the customer desires. We hope that all of our customers feel that we are here to help them in whatever way they need. If this customer would like to call our office we will be more than happy to provide a written estimate for repair. In fact Roto-Rooter will deduct the last service charge from any estimate if the customer chooses to have us do the work. We look forward to hearing from this home owner. Sincerely, Jeannie Nuebel Roto-Rooter Plumbing & Drains Services

I hired Roto-Rooter to do some sewer work for me. They asked for $8000.00 in advance and I paid them this. They worked for 2 days and on the 3rd day I had to let them go and dismissed their service. It was a big job and it wasn’t going the right way. Don Sherwood, the owner, refused to return some of the money for the work that was not done. (What I figured would be $2000.00). When I called him last year, he laughed at me over the phone. He told me that he didn’t intend on giving you back any of the money and that he would have finished one phase of the work. He felt very badly that I let him go. I had even arranged for him to meet a different company that I had used and I asked him to work with this other company to complete the work.

Response from Roto-Rooter Plumbing & Water Cleanup
Our goal at Roto-Rooter is 100% customer satisfaction. Circumstances beyond our control have apparently caused this client to confuse the two companies involved. This is the second attempt of the client to slander our company. The first attempt was through the Better Business Bureau (BBB). Attached you will find the letter written to the BBB from our office. The BBB has since closed that case and listed it as “closed, assumed satisfied.” We welcome any questions regarding this subject. Please call 541-689-1711 to discuss. Better Business Bureau Case ID: 22302488 I am writing this letter in response to a complaint you received from our client whom Roto-Rooter worked for in April of 2011, invoice number 13040. Let me say from the beginning that I believe she is an honest woman, but she has gotten the dates, events, and now the contractors confused with each other. This is why I find it necessary to put into writing all the events as I know them, and in no way am I trying to embarrass her. Roto-Rooter was called out to this client’s home on March 27, 2011 (not April 3) because the main line was backing up raw sewage into her basement. Our service technician David attempted to open the line from a clean out, but was unable to get through the line. With her consent, we then scheduled to come back the next day with a second technician to run a “two man” operation and perform a Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) inspection on the line to determine what was causing the back up. Roto-Rooter spent three hours using two men and still was unable to open the line. However, we soon began pulling out mud, a strong indication that the line either collapsed or was separated. I could tell right away that this job was not going to have an easy solution, for we were dealing with a sanitary sewer line exiting from a basement. Unfortunately, we could not see anything proof positive with our camera equipment regarding the source of the problem as the line was backed up. The only thing we could do was perform an exploratory dig. At this time I asked the client if there was anyone she would like me to talk to regarding her sanitary sewer line. She emphatically expressed that there was nobody else and that she would make all the decisions involving this project. This concerned me because an elderly woman who probably does not have much experience with plumbing now had to deal with contractors running a large project. The only solution at this time was to hand dig down to the sanitary sewer line approximately 8 to 10 feet in depth. The purpose of the dig was to expose the sewer line, gain access to the sewer line, and then perform a CCTV inspection on the remainder of the line to determine its condition. I showed her where we needed to dig and she explained that is where her late husband had planted expensive shrubs and had installed a rock garden. I then called two landscape contractors to give me an estimate for removing the shrubs, trees, and rock garden so that I could begin the dig. I called Rexius and Cutting Edge Landscape and both companies met me onsite later that day. I decided to go with Cutting Edge Landscaping for the amount of $2390.00. Cutting Edge was able to start that afternoon which allowed Roto-Rooter to start digging on Tuesday, March 29. Prior to work beginning on Tuesday I had prepared a written proposal in the amount of $9500.00 for the exploratory dig. The client signed the proposal and work began shortly thereafter (Signed proposal available upon request). My proposal clearly stated what our intentions were: hire professional landscapers to remove the shrubs, trees, and the rock garden; hand dig to expose the pipe; cut out a section of the pipe; and CCTV both directions to determine the condition of the sanitary sewer line. If the line was in good condition we would have been able to make a repair and backfill it quickly. If the line needed additional work, a new proposal would be submitted. My proposal clearly stated the purpose of this project. Roto-Rooter started hand digging with three men to expose the sanitary sewer line. The conditions were extremely tough for we were discovering large boulders in excess of 50 to 75 lbs each. After about eight hours of hand digging we determined that an extremely small excavator was needed to complete the dig around the pipe. This was a rare piece of equipment that we were able to rent from one of our competitors. Even with the small excavator it was not until the middle of Thursday that we were able to expose the sanitary sewer line. The hole was over eight feet in depth, which required shoring in extremely rough terrain. Unfortunately, we found collapsed orange burg pipe and the camera inspection showed that the entire line needed to be replaced. This was of course the worst news to share with the client. Let me state that at no point did I ever say the orange burg pipe could be fixed. We were hoping that the damage was isolated to the one area and that we could remove the damaged section and repair it. She is making an allegation that I claimed the orange burg pipe could be repaired before we even knew we were dealing with orange burg. Prior to exposing the line we anticipated seeing concrete pipe, not orange burg pipe. In this aspect of the client’s letter, her complaint is factually wrong. She is stating I then handed her a proposal and an interim bill of $8500.00. She must not remember she had a signed proposal for $9500.00 before any work was performed. She is also claiming that Roto Rooter installed an inadequate pump. Again, she is getting her facts confused. Roto-Rooter did not install any pumps whatsoever. Kevin Cohen Plumbing installed the pump and the two holding tanks in her front yard. I questioned her on this and she explained she had a back up over the weekend and called Kevin Cohen Plumbing. She told me she paid over $2000.00 for this service. I stated again that she only needed to call Roto-Rooter because we would have kept her line open for no additional charge. I asked her permission to call her son from Bend, Oregon to explain what had taken place over the weekend. In my opinion, the pump and the holding tank installation was a waste of time and money as we would not have installed a pump at all. She is also claiming she paid my wife $200.00 in cash for cleaning her basement. I do not want to claim she is lying but at no time did she pay anybody from Roto-Rooter cash nor did any other type of payment take place between Dawn Sherwood and the client for cleaning the basement. My wife volunteered her time because the client was extremely upset with Advanced Recovery Cleaning Services. Evidently she did not care for the demeanor of the individual assigned to cleaning her basement. In fact, Roto-Rooter paid Advanced Recovery $200.00 for the work they had already started. She also asserts that Roto-Rooter charged her for giving an estimate for the overall project before work began. This is completely untrue; we do not charge for giving estimates. She also states we left her with a big hole in her backyard. This was done by design because Roto-Rooter agreed to come back later—after the job was completed—to fill in the hole. If Roto-Rooter had filled in the hole early the sanitary sewer line would have backed up. Filling in the hole was part of the $8500.00 she paid us, and we had to leave it open for any additional work that was needed on the sewer line. For the record, the signed proposal of $9500.00 was adjusted down to $8500.00 because the scope of the job had changed so dramatically. At this point, the job went from a small repair to a very large and expensive solution. I submitted a proposal to the client on April 8, 2011 in the amount of $32,950.00. She was willing to sign on the spot, but I insisted she look at other estimates. I even offered my services to meet and discuss the situation with other contractors. I spoke with three contractors: Caldwell Excavation, H & J Excavation, and Kevin Cohen Plumbing. Both Caldwell and H & J decided not to give a bid as this job was extremely complicated and required the use of installing a lift station as well as directional boring. Kevin Cohen was chosen to complete the work. I was disappointed that we did not get the job because the client told me in no uncertain terms that she did not want her basement torn up. Our proposal was designed to keep all of the work outside and developing this plan required an additional 40 hours of my time to meet with subcontractors, city officials, neighbors, and engineers to design the unique system. Kevin Cohen gave a proposal for installing the lift station inside of the basement- an act that she clearly wanted to avoid. An even more frustrating aspect of this complaint is that the client claims that our proposal was more invasive when, in reality, the two bids were not comparable and we were simply following her wishes. At no time in the entire process did she ask me for a $2000.00 reimbursement. I am not sure where this is coming from. It is possible the client is getting Kevin Cohen Plumbing and Roto-Rooter mixed up because Roto-Rooter did not install the $2000.00 “inadequate” pump and holding tank. I welcome the opportunity to discuss this matter further if needed. In no way do I feel that Roto-Rooter did not live up to our high standards and expectations. I gave nothing but respect to the client during the entire month long process. I even postponed several other jobs in order to direct her through the tiring situation. Roto-Rooter feels there is no justification for any kind of a reimbursement. Don Sherwood General Manager
