Landscape East & West

I did use Angie's List to find Landscape East & West. It's who we hired but they didn't start yet, in the next couple of weeks. We liked what they were doing on their designs better. There was a couple other companies I talked to on the phone but I didn't have out to my house. They've been out several times and it's all been in the last couple of months it's been, we're doing a total landscape of the property and it's going to be a $35000 job. Once it's all done then I'll fill out a review. It'll take a month, they start on the 23rd of May and then it'll take a month for them to do all the work. The price is competitive. We probably had six and a half meeting over the last 2 and a half months. We did the design and we also did what they call the build. The build will come next, it's the same company, different division of the company so they actually will have the production crew out here putting in the sprinkler system, putting in the walk ways, putting in the patio, plantings, and then seeding the grass, and so that takes about a month. I'll know more about how I feel about it and we have a positive feeling toward it and actually see it work.

I wanted to get a sidewalk installed on the side of my house. I called East-West and made an appointment for an estimate three weeks in advance. That was as soon as the estimator could come. Because of his restricted hours (he doesn't work Monday or Friday and doesn't make estimates after 3:00), I had to take off work that day so I could make the appointment time. He never showed up. I called East-West. They didn't know. They had to find him. He then called me and said that he had phoned earlier in the day to cancel the appointment. He never gave a reason for the cancellation. But I didn't receive a voice mail from him. Then he called me rude and asked if I wanted to make another appointment.. I don't know why, but I said okay and got another appointment for two weeks later. I'm thinking of not being home for the appointment because I will have to take another day off work. This person/company obviously doesn't care if it gets my business or not. I called another contractor, and he came out the next day to give me an estimate.

Installers were not experienced and appeared confused. Sales member had numerous trips to instruct and direct them. The overall job was completed, but very average if that. Would really not use them again. I ended up taking out the gravel path they recommended even though I thought it was too steep for the location and need at the time they bid on the project.

It was great. They did exactly what I needed. It was over a month ago. I did pay to haul away all the stuff too. I would use them again.

It went quite well at first. We had a good landscape design person at first. However, she left. The person who took over the bid for her, contacted us once and then we were never able to get a hold of him after that. He would not return our calls. He would not return our emails. We let him know we were anxious to get started on the job. Still nothing. I contacted the company by using the company's website contact email information request. Still no response. So now, we are starting all over with another landscape company.

Landscape East & West did a great job on our extensive landscape project. The quality of their work was top-notch. The only challenges were the communication wasn't always seamless, since the sales folk and workers weren't always 100% coordinated. However, when something didn't go quite the way we wanted, they promptly fixed everything to our satisfaction at no additional cost. The garden and fence look great now!

Great. This is the second time we've turned to Landscape East West for trees, rock removal, grass installation, vegetable bed installation, transplanting, water container placement, etc. We would use them again if there were anything left to do :)

Very professional, both there communication as well as their quality. They partnered well with the plumber and tile contractors I was previously using also. I provide a sketch of what I was looking for and within 3 days I had received drawings. Our schedule was tight by they stayed on track and finished on time. With other contractors the hand-off between the designer and the construction folks can frequently result in problems, but with Landscape E&W both designer and builder stayed connected through out as well as final inspection. Definitely would recommend them.

I encountered a very nasty water leak in my lawn. I discovered it when I saw water oozing out of the lawn on a dry day. When I picked up my shovel and tracked down the leak, it was a very difficult leak to fix for the following reasons: 1) The original installer from 20 years ago did a horrible job designing the pipe layout, making it really hard to repair (e.g. there was very little room to work with, and they used improper fittings that showed they were 'lazy') 2) My house is in an area of really high pressure (120-130 PSI at the meter). Any sub-par work immediately fails and shoots water all over the place, OR the repair simply blows up! (Don't ask me how I know that...) Because of the nature of the leak, it required me to shut off all water to the house, making repair of the leak an emergency. (I decided to hire Landscape East and West because I had hired them a few years ago to replace 9 dead trees and replant, and they did an AWESOME job then.) I spoke to Susan, who handles irrigation repair dispatch. She was great and understanding and personable. She sent out Ryan Greene to do the repairs. To say that Ryan is good is a huge understatement. He is professional, knowledgeable, and personable.. and FAST. He immediately got to work, diagnosing the strategic approach to the repair even while explaining what he was going to do. He had all the materials in order to do a repair with him, and when he looked at how the irrigation water distribution manifold was originally designed, he explained to me why it was a bad design, why the failure occurred, and how he would repair it so that not only would it be a superior design, but able to be repaired easily in the future should it be required. Along the way of repairing the problem, Ryan was kind enough to let me watch (and to help out where appropriate, like when we needed to dig more of the system out in order to effect the repair) and to explain to me what he was doing, and why. He is clearly an expert at what he does, and he works quickly while maintaining professionalism and cordiality. He ran into several challenges (e.g. pipes of different heights, needing to be joined with a manifold involving two 90 degree angles and a T connection). His solutions to these challenges were ingenious, simple, and durable, showing off his years of experience in handling difficult work. When he was finished, the repair was professionally done, much more quickly, effectively, and durably than if I had attempted the repair myself (and I am a reasonably capable DIY person!). Ryan told me exactly what I needed to do next (wait for the PVC welding to dry, brace the repair, turn on water slowly, insulate and flush the pipes) and was just super-nice about the whole thing. So, in summary, if you're looking for someone who knows what they are doing, and is fast, professional, and personable, I'd look to this company, and ESPECIALLY Ryan Greene! I will be calling them again if I need more work in the yard. Super experience!

The yard was completely out of control, covered with weeds and debris from a large birch stump that was removed and stump-ground. They removed all of that along with several rhodies and azaleas that were diseased and dying. They rototilled soil amendments in, top dressed where the lawn went in, fertilized and laid sod. Alex, the sales rep, suggested plants that look great and will be much easier to maintain. Michael, the lead on the job was great to work with. He was very accommodating and flexible. He even modified our irrigation system so we weren't wasting water and programmed the controller. I would absolutely use them again and recommend them to our friends and neighbors.

David called me the evening before to make sure he had all the details of the work to be performed. I explained that it is a large 3 tiered concrete fountain. He asked for a picture of the fountain to be sent via email so he could have some idea of the size of the fountain to be repaired. David arrived and we looked at the fountain while he asked me questions about what the fountain was doing or not so that he could determine if the pump really needed to be replaced or not. The pump was making a clacking noise because it had sucked up a lot of years of grime. I explained that I was able to get to the pump by reaching in but that the only part I could take off was the top tier and not the 2nd which is the area where the pump is housed. He was then able to take the top 2 tiers off and get to the little pump. The one he had was too large to fit easily in the space so he went and got one that would work better and it even has an adjustable flow which is much better than the one I had before. He cleaned the fountain and put it all back together. David explained how I can do maintenance on the fountain myself and showed me how to adjust the water flow if I wanted to make it just bubble or have more flow. He was very nice and very careful of my plants as well. I would be more than pleased to have him back anytime.

They were great from beginning to end. Sue Hicks, the designer, listened to my ideas and was able to add her expertise to come up with a beautiful, functional design for my small backyard. In an effort to reduce costs, I had dug up and moved some of the existing plants I was hoping to keep prior to their starting. They came in on the day promised and started excavating for the stone work. From what I could tell all the work was done by hand and the site was throroughly cleaned up each day before they left. I had a couple of rhodies a friend wanted so when they dug them out they tied them up for easy transport and set them aside. I really wanted a flagstone patio and was a bit taken aback at the cost but decided to go for it anyway. Sue, met me at the rock place (Smith Rock-wonderful place) to look at different options and also to pick out the larger stones that were to be used as a step. Her patience with my questions (and apprehensions) from beginning to end was greatly appreciated. I had an existing irrigation system that needed to be redone to fit the new design. They converted much of it to drip to minimize water loss and changed the location of the sprinkler heads to the grassy areas only. They also converted the front beds next to the house to drip so they wouldn't be spraying water directly on the foundation. Jamie (project manager) even reprogrammed the system for more efficient/effective watering. Every step of the way I was impressed with the professionalism and quality of their work. The man that cut and laid out the stone is a real artist, very meticulous and thoughtful in the layout. I knew going into it that this project would be rather costly but to have one company do it all from start to finish (and do it well) was worth the cost. Also I feel like I can call them if questions come up, I'm not just cut loose after the check cleared.

I live in an area with small side yards. They provided a beautiful deck, lighting, patio, fence, hot tub… etc. It took them 4 weeks; they didn’t work after 4:00pm and Friday, Saturday and Sunday, and they worked with the home owners association. They were willing to go through all the steps to get everything approved. They were just great.

I called Landscape East & West for an estimate on a backyard renovation at a house I bought last year. It's a very unique house, a hand-built stone house on a corner lot. I needed my sloped backyard leveled, a 2-ft stone retaining wall installed, and a fence installed around the top of the wall to provide some much-needed privacy. The catch was, I wanted a wall that would match the unique features of the house, which was built of random-shaped hand-cut basalt stones. Walls like that are pretty rare these days, as homeowners and landscapers prefer the square and rectangular block-like stones for a tight fit in a short amount of time. This company seemed to understand what I wanted (and what I didn't want) in terms of the stone retaining wall. Another issue was wether or not the City of Portland would require the wall to be set back form the sidewalk, and if so, how far back. Landscape East & West helped me navigate the City's rules for setbacks. They gave me a very detailed proposal that covered all the work I wanted done, including a stone retaining wall that would compliment the house, leveling of the back yard, stone steps up to the yard from the driveway, a cedar fence, two gates-- one of which would have to latch into the stone house, and new sod in the yard. The proposal also included digital photos of the materials they planned to use, so I was confident they understood what I wanted. The work was done in a surprisingly short time, just a little over a week. The old wall was demo'd and the new wall built in about two days, with much of the stone from the old wall incorporated into the new one. The work was very nice. Then a 4-foot cedar fence was built around the top of the wall, giving me a combined 6 feet of privacy between the sidewalk and my back yard. Finally new sod was rolled out in my back yard and in front of the new retaining wall. The entire project met my expectations and then some. My neighbors have complimented the work as unique-looking without looking and very complimentary to the property. I was happy to work with this company. I had other, cheaper bids, but ended up going with Landscape East & West.

Irrigation control box died just as weather started to heat up in May. Had to wait 3 weeks for appointment however am very pleased with service and quality of product. Scheduling was easy despite wait time. Technician arrived on time and was efficient and pleasant. Had to dig around wiring but left area neat and tidy when work was completed.

Provider showed up as scheduled and performed the work. An invoice was emailed to me and I was able to arrange for payment. Everyone I encountered, from scheduling to payment, was professional.

I scheduled a time for Lee to come out and bid my projects. He was on-time and very polite. He proceeded to take a few measurements. After we discussed the project a few minutes, he then told me that he would throw out a rough dollar amount for the project "To see if my eyes rolled back in my head or not". It was at that point i knew I was dealing with a sales guy, not someone who would be working with me to see the vision of my back yard become reality. After I received the quote, it did not surprise me that it was quite a bit higher than other bids I had received. It was not the highest, however. I am not awarding the job based on cost, but after taking a look at the proposal, It was clear that there was not a good understanding of the scope of the project as there were some things that we discussed that were missing as well as some features that were added that were specifically discussed, and unwanted. After calling attention to the higher than average bid, and offering the chance to provide a more competitive proposal. Lee, simply wished me "good luck." I also requested a quote for yard maintenance during the original visit on 5/2. I never received that quote. I have since gone elsewhere and that work has been done. I gave a "C" average. Based on their portfolio, I am sure Landscape East & West builds quality product. They were just not a fit for this project.

Things went well - they were very professional and I felt that I could trust that they would do what they said and the job would be completed on time, partly based on the reviews on Angie's List. My husband and I met with Alex and discussed what we were looking for. He had some good suggestions on the pavers and the retaining wall. One complaint is that I would have liked a detailed plan with the patio design, plant locations, etc. and all I received was a not-to-scale sketch. Other landscapers that I have worked with have drawn up a detailed plan prior to the work starting. I assume that was not done in this case due to the small size of the area they were working on, but it was definitely something I would have liked, since I really didn't have a good picture of what it was going to look like until the work was actually being done. However, I was able to be there to discuss the size and shape of the paver patio, and to select plant locations prior to planting, and both my husband and I really like the results. The crew did good work, were pleasant and cleaned up at the end of every day. We felt like we definitely got quality results, and the price was not out of line with other quotes we had received. Overall we're very pleased and would definitely use them again. It's nice that they also offer other services such as landscape maintenance and sprinkler repairs, both of which we may need in the future.

This company was amazingly helpful and creative. My salesperson, Rebecca was wonderful to work with and helped me find a version of her design that matched my budget. She made solid recommendations that worked for my price range as well as worked with my priority of low-maintenance, local plant life. Her design was beautiful and turned out better than I could have expected! The work crew was polite, professional, clean, and very quick. They were able to get the whole job done in under 1 week, which was a pleasant surprise to me. Without a doubt, I would suggest this company and use them again for any future landscaping work.

This type of work was not in the scope of service provider. They did, howerver, provide the contact information of company that could possible do the work: Blessing Landscapes. It was also out of scope for Blessing Landscapes but, they provided me with the contact information of a person that could: Roberto Sanchez.. Mr. Sanchez quickly found the leak and fixed it and so far at no charge. I have been trying to reach him to pay for his services and possible have do other water/sprinkler work. I am very pleased with all the people mentioned and there willing to pass the work to someont they believed to be more qualified or capable of doing the job.

I have been using Landscape East & West's biannual irrigation service since they modified my poorly designed system in 2008. A few days ago, I called to see when I was scheduled for this spring and was surprised to find the date was later than usual. Normally, that would be fine but this year I am replacing my lawn and need to reseed it sooner than that. Susan, the scheduler, did her best to work me in earlier but the new date was still later than I had hoped. When Kirk Lobb, the Service Department manager, heard about my concern, he called yesterday to say he was arranging to have the work done that afternoon. Ryan came as promised and did a great job turning on the system, checking the operation of all the heads in each zone, replacing a broken connection, changing the nozzles on two heads, making final adjustments, and testing the backflow assembly. I am really sorry to have disrupted their heavy work schedule but am grateful they did this for me so I can get my lawn growing in time for my HPSO open garden.

I appreciate their rushing to give me an estimate within my desired time frame, and their price seemed competitive. However, I didn't feel confident in their understanding exactly what I wanted, and in receiving the desired product with just a phone consultation. Also, they appeared to be so busy that I feel certain I would have had to wait longer for the work to be done. I would not have hired them without meeting with them in person to see a draft of what they were proposing to do.

This project was done remotely, as I ordered the work from out of town for my daughter. The owner was extremely helpful, prompt and informative, and the work was done to schedule, with no return visits for corrections. My daughter is very pleased with the results, and so am I. I highly recommend this company.

From the very first consult with Alex, to the end of the project, I couldn't have asked for more in terms of instant service, knowledgeable advice, and incredible work ethic provided by the company. My yard was a mess and completely unusable. It was completely overgrown with ivy and covered with mud. All the nice shrubs were hidden by weeds. The old fence was broken and I couldn't let my dogs out without leashes. The guys worked for 4 days, and I mean worked! I now have a beautiful landscaped yard with a gorgeous path and nicely trimmed bushes. And a secure fence for the dogs. I am so happy.

We continue to use them on a monthly basis. Not inexpensive, but excellent punctual work.
