Ted is a genius with the track hoe. He owns bigger machines, but he brought in a smaller one for our project and he made it look simple. I'm no stranger to driving bobcats etc, and I've worked on plenty of construction sites myself, and I've never seen someone swing a machine around the site so fast and so efficiently. He's also a super nice guy. He helped my fiancé and I solve a few problems on our overgrown yard at our new house that was a big mess. We are doing most of the work ourselves, but needed Ted to help with some of the broad strokes. He was very flexible, and we worked together on getting done what we could with the budget that we had. I was out in the yard with him moving brush and concrete out of the way while he worked the machine at lighting speed. He got a ton done in a short time, and hardly took a break even though we were in the middle of a heatwave. Our massive yard project is ongoing, and Ted will definitely be coming back if we can get him, and will be the first call for any other excavation needs we have in the future.

Ted was great. He responded quickly to my email. He worked around our busy schedule. He did a great job. We really did not have a good vision for what we wanted, but he took our vague vision of what we wanted and gave us what we needed. Watching him work that excavator was so amazing we took a video to show our friends. Without a doubt we would choose to work with Ted again and recommend him to others without hesitation.
Description of Work: Had property around house excavated in preparation of putting in lawn. Ted also pushed down two large trees and poured some gravel for a future outdoor shed.

He looked at the job and outlined exactly what he would do Then he gave me a written quote On the day of the job I was not home When I returned home my basement was at least as clean as when I left (if not cleaner) and the job was fully completed. Their cleanup was excellent He stopped by in person to check if the job was completed to my satisfaction so Yes I would call him again for any future projects

From start to finish, Rudiger Excavation was professional, thorough and accommodating. Job not as easy as it sounds - at least a dozen old rail ties and old fence posts with concrete bases needed removal first. Retaining wall would vary in heights. Neighboring property also had a heavily-planted, low concrete retaining wall that needed some disassembling and reassembling as part of the process. Crew showed up on expected date and did deconstruction work, even carefully removing many of neighbor's plants that were in the way and replanting in available dirt on our side. We hadn't requested that careful attention to detail, figuring the plants would just go by wayside. We had forgotten to order fence panels for a timely delivery due to family emergency. Ted rolled with it and adjusted his schedule. All crew members on job cleaned up after each day and final clean up was excellent. They followed job specifications to the letter and were also willing to be flexible when needed. And they worked in 90-degree+ heat each day. We would work with this company again.
Description of Work: Ted Rudiger Excavation built a 65-foot wood retaining wall along one of our property lines and then installed pre-fab cedar fence panels above the wall. Backfilled upper side of wall with rock.

I initially started this project with a contractor hired off of a certain free classified listing site, and had the previous contractor abandon the job and abscond with a substantial deposit. Needing to keep the ball rolling, I reached out to Ted Rudiger to come in and do the proper excavation and also facilitate the pouring of the concrete that I needed. From our initial contact, Ted was sympathetic of my situation and assured me that he would do whatever he could to make it right. His pricing was substantially higher than what the flaky contractor had bid, but his excellent ratings on Angie's List convinces me to spend the money. It turned out to be the right decision. Ted was able to get my project back on track in an extremely short period of time, squeezing my little garage slab in between multiple larger jobs and making me feel like a priority. He didn't tolerate any delays from subcontractors and was able to make the connections required to keep the foundation and slab pours on a timely schedule. All in all, I couldn't be happier with the finished product. It was such a great experience to work with a competent contractor whose primary motivation is doing good business and making sure the customer is happy. I would happily use Ted Rudiger again on future projects and recommend him to anybody looking for grading, excavation, or concrete work.

Oh my gosh!! I just wish I could give Ted an A+++. Our entire basement flooded from a broken and blocked sewer line. After we found out from a sewer scope where the problem was, I started calling excavators from Angie's List. This was on a Saturday night. Until we could get the problem resolved, we could not drain any water from sinks, tubs, showers, toilets, dishwashers -- basically everywhere! So needless to say, we were in a big hurry. Although desperate and willing to work with ANYONE who could provide immediate help, I can't believe how lucky I was to find Ted. He actually ANSWERED his phone on a Saturday night, having dinner out with his family. And he was at my house the next morning. I made a lot of calls that night, but Ted was the only one who answered. Some companies NEVER returned my call, some gave bids over the phone a few days later($1700, $2000, and one guy who said he couldn't come close to as low as those bids were). Ted came to our house on a Sunday, explained the possibilities, the good and the bad, wrote out a professional bid, did the job a day later, for $1200, and we are just so happy and so grateful to him. He is just a wonderful person with an incredibly honorable work ethic. To find the very best person and the very lowest price is simply a miracle!! I just can't recommend him strongly enough.

Actual date of work is 6/23. If everything done prior to job is any indication of work performed then I will say it is going to be done as intended, on time, and professionally. ***Update**** Ted came and completed all the work as stated above. Also, gave ideas on ground cover and plantings. Recommended a few other local businesses to purchase products (some had a HUGE savings versus major retailers). His work was spot on with what we wanted. I would say he went above and beyond the scope of work with the additional advice he provided.
Description of Work: Reshaping my yard and adding two level areas. One for additional parking and the other for a play area. Also advised me of water coming into my crawl space and said he would reshape along house to reroute the water flow.

Description of Work: Ted came out to give me an idea of what needed to be done to fix my kitchen line and my sewer line, which are backed up. I had another company come out on Tuesday morning and was very uncomfortable with what they were telling me needed to be done to solve my problem and decided to give Ted a call. I took a deep breath for the first time since Tuesday morning and feel much better having Ted do the work for me. Once I get the lines scoped out I will be having Ted come out to do whatever needs to be done to fix my problem. He presented as very honest and reliable and I look forward to working with him and his crew.
Excellent results. The contractor developed an excellent plan to solve a longstanding backyard drainage problem and prepare the house for sale, and all for an excellent price. In addition the contractor and his team did the other work noted above [fence, gates, gravel] in order to make the property look great and increase its sale value. The contractor acted very quickly to do the necessary work [which took several days] within a short timeline so that the work would be finished by the date set for listing the property for sale. The team did excellent work on all aspects of the project. The contractor was very willing to do things above and beyond the contract in order to bring about the best possible result for us, and when one minor glitch occurred he acted immediately to resolve the problem.
Description of Work: Dug and installed French drains both around two sides of backyard and along two sides of the house. Re-graded portion of yard to allow rain surface water to flow into new French drains. Reconfigured and separated drain pipes for (a) roof water and downspouts and (b) the new drainage system to allow greater flow of rain water out of property. Replaced two portions of existing fence and two gates. Added gravel to portion of yard.

There was an existing graveled area but it was sloped and bumpy. Ted explained exactly what he was going to do and the reasons for it. He had to remove an existing raised garden bed in order to have enough room to grade the slope. He and his crew arrived on time and got to work immediately. They hauled away a dump truck load of dirt and brought in two loads of gravel. They installed some heavy landscape cloth under the gravel that lets water through but keeps the gravel from sinking into the ground. They had underground sprinkler lines to contend with and they even removed a large flowering plum tree at no extra charge. Removing the tree pulled down part of a low rock wall which they then rebuilt. They also built a swale for water runoff and packed the whole area down so the gravel is smooth and tight. They cleaned up the driveway and the street, even wiped up muddy footprints in my garage. I would highly recommend this company.
Description of Work: Levelled an RV parking area next to my house.
There was a vinyl lined, 25' X 25' octogon shaped, in ground swimming pool in the back yard. Was tired of buying new liner every few years besides there are not that many days to swim to warrant the needed upkeep.. Had been told by swimming pool dealers that would cost about $10,000.00 to remove it. Ted came out to look it over, gave me a bid, explained what he & crew would do to get rid of it and replace with a garden area. Angel & Roberto were main guys who worked on the project with Angel's brother Mait helping a few times too. Very nice young men. They had to remove metal and other materials from pool using wheel barrows because there was only a 3' or so wide sidewalk access for them to use. Can't even begin to guess how many wheel barrow trips they made. Then the refilling with rocks & dirt! Ted said there was 13 dump truck loads of material used to fill it up...all of it carried in the wheel barrows! I really felt so bad for them, they worked very hard and some days got poured on to boot. I showed Ted another problem my back yard. Before homes were built here in 60s-70s this area was a swamp I had been told...and I do believe it.. The back of my yard was like walking on a soaking wet sponge a big part of the year. Ted showed how putting in a French drain in a L shape will help drain the yard. Hooray! So for $12,000.00 I got the pool removed, hole filled up with lots of big & med. size rocks which were put in a trench they made in deepest part of old pool area to make sure there will now be good drainage for the new garden. And many, many wheelbarrow loads of dirt. Also included in the price was the French drain, and really nice soil for garden boxes. For about $1300.00 dollars Angel covered the garden space with a good heavy duty landscaping fabric, built 7 garden boxes using pre-treated lumber that he lined with a special plastic to protect plant roots from any chemicals from the lumber. Then he put on a nice deep layer of cedar chips around the garden boxes and filled them with the garden soil. Looks terrific! Such an improvement over a pool that was rarely used. All I did was supply homemade cookies for the guys! Thank you Ted, Angel, Roberto and Mait.

We were concerned about some wall cracks in my lower level family room and had a couple of people come over to give us their professional opinions on what we needed to do and about how much it would cost. We originally thought that we would need foundation work and a French drain (which is what one guy told me). Ted inspected the interior and exterior and told us that our cracks were superficial and normal due to the age of the house, and that the foundation was fine. He suggested how we could fix the cracks ourselves as a do-it-yourself project. He educated us, too -- told us how to tell whether a crack was serious or not, and other things to watch for. He was very helpful and saved us potentially several thousand dollars!

It was an excellent experience start to finish. On his initial visit, Ted took time to thoroughly analyze the issues and to explain them in detail because the drainage problems were varied by different ares of the property. He designed a system that pulled water from several different spots into a central underground collector that will do the job for the life of the home. Once contracted he began work quickly and got in and out with the least amount of disruption to our daily lives. His cement sub-contractor was the best I have ever used and their work was flawless, especially in the details that often get overlook. The gutters, driveway and walk all drain properly and we could not be happier. Ted is a very cordial and thorough person and took time to be sure we were OK every step of the way. I called him 3 or 4 times during the various stages of work and he was very responsive. I will definately use Ted again for any excavation, cement or and drain related work.

Ted was amazing in his responsiveness and attentiveness to my needs and went over and above my expectations. His price was thousands lower than other contractors. He went so far as to add many items of work that other contractors had not estimated at no additional charge. His mantra during the whole job was " I just want to make you happy", which he did. As a physician with no clue as to what it takes to do that kind of work, he was respectful of this deficiency and guided me though the process. A resounding thumbs up for Ted. Oh yes, his wife the office manager help greatly to keep him on task. Ronald

The job was started on time, finished early. Ted even seeded the yard and built 2 sets of stairways for access to the new yard. This was an old pool with very thick concrete walls. Ted decommissioned to code and the yard looks great. thanks Ted!
Description of Work: Ted did a superb job. We needed an old pool decommissioned and the entire yard re and graded. This was in a back yard that was difficult to get equipment into.
Very well. I was impressed at Ted's promptness in coming to the house to determine what the problems were, starting immediately. He told me what was going on and what he would do. He kept me updated on how it was going. They ran into electrical problems that required an electrician who was able to come promptly. He and his workers took care not to destroy the lawn. The electrical problems affected the pond pump as well and they redid this circuitry so that water would not cause the pond pump to short out. In the course of this, he cleaned the pump filter and the pond and redid the small waterfall. He also put decorative rocks in other places where water had been pooling, and evened up and leveled 4 paving stones. The project seemed very complex and Ted knew what he was doing. It is clear he takes pride in doing a good job and being responsive to his clients. Because of this we are asking Ted to do another project for us in our new house.
Description of Work: My house was to go on the market 11/3. Recent rains had caused a pool of water in the backyard because something was wrong with the French drain. Ted came out quickly, gave me a fair estimate for the work to be done, and got started the next day. Ted and Angel and Roberto installed a new French drain, redid the electrical circuitry to the drain pumps as well as the pond pump, reseeded the lawn, and did a number extra things that improved the yard's appearance.

We have a rental that we were preparing for new tenants and live out of town. I use Angie's list because I had bad experiences with a HVAC, and electrical contractor that I found through word of mouth. I found Ted on Angie's List, and picked him because he was local to our neighborhood, and had good reviews. He was amazing. What I liked best about him is that he would answer our questions and helped us out even when he didn't expect work from us. Originally, we got a quote from him to hook up to the sewer. During the quote process he discussed all the options with me. Once we found out the cost, we changed our minds and decided to continue using the septic because we didn't want to spend the money and upgrade, but we still needed help on locating the septic and emptying it. I called Ted for advice because I am unfamiliar with the process. He told me how to locate the septic, where to dig, how far to dig, and who to call to pump it. We found a mess once we located and accessed the septic, and it was going to be expensive to bring our septic up to code. Instead, we called Ted to connect us to the sewer as it was now the logical route. My husband works in construction, and Ted met with him to discuss the plan and discuss any concerns he had. He is easy to talk to and addressed all of his questions and alternative ideas. We needed it done in a hurry, and he fit us into his schedule. He also adjusted the price based on the work we did to locate and empty the septic. He worked with our tenants to make sure to minimize any interruption in toilet service. He did the work without supervision-as we live out of town, did it honestly, timely, and professionally. He mailed us the inspections and receipts quickly, and without us reminding him. He is awesome, and of excellent character. I never felt pressured or insecure in what he was going to do or what it would cost me because he was forthcoming during the whole process. I really enjoyed working with Ted, and I highly recommend him.

My space was small so we got permission from my neighbor to pull the fence back so the back hoe could get into my yard from her property. They had to remove one plant because I did not cut it back enough. They also had to cut more branches off my tree because they hung too low. They dug up the sewer line to the street which was not an easy task. It was not straight line and they had to go under a cement wall which is about 3 feet high, dismantle part of my fence which they put back together after they worked the area. I was also told that they had to dig down 13 feet! so they could attach the new sewer line to city line. It was a major project, but it was done in about 3-days because they also had other projects going on. They kept the back hoe in my drive way before the project started. It was there for about 3-days, but I could get around it, so it caused no hardship to me.

They did a great job. Had to dig a new trench, battling large boulders and concrete slabs. Plus, there were trees in the way which they cut and removed all debris. They moved the boulders and concrete slabs to the bottom to form a spillway for the new drain tile. Another great Angie's List contractor. Ted's helpers were great too. They worked hard moving rocks, tree limbs, etc plus they cut up the trees and limbs into firewood for my neighbor to use. Their attention to detail was outstanding as the place was spic and span when they were done.

Ted makes his work look easy. It was impressive and fun to watch Ted work the excavator for the dam repair. Fortunately for me I was present to observe this portion of the project. Ted is so good with that machine that it momentarily made me think I could do it - because it looked easy. (but I know better than that) Ted and his crew did a fantastic job of setting covering the culverts exactly where I wanted them. Unfortunately I was unable to be present for the pole barn pad prep. The only snag in the entire project was that Ted could not call me with questions, because I had filled out my phone number incorrectly. I can honestly say that I would not have changed anything that Ted did, even if he had been able to call me. Ted and his crew were very professional. They were very careful with my property (they had to move some tractor implements). They were always respectful, courteous, and patient with my seemingly endless questions. I was very happy with the entire process. Especially in the front end, where Ted took time to carefully explain my rights in the signing of the contract. That has never happened before. Again, overall I was very satisfied with the end product. Ted did everything he was hired to do and more. I will not hesitate to hire Ted again.

We are preparing our house for sale and had an eyesore in the back yard - a large, oval cement block retaining wall filled with dirt. We wanted the cement blocks and dirt removed, yard graded, and sod placed. We were short on time and called five companies that had been referrals. None of the companies could accommodate our schedule since it's a busy time of year. I turned to Angie's List and chose Ted based on his excellent ratings. I called on Saturday, June 15th. Ted answered! Ted came to our house the next day, a Sunday AND Father's Day, to discuss the scope of work and timing. Ted went out of his way to rearrange his schedule to accommodate us and got the project done in three days at a mutually agreed to cost. Ted and his team were professional, efficient and the yard looks beautiful. We were impressed with Ted's responsiveness and outstanding customer service. We are very happy with our experience and highly recommend Ted.
