Ted Rudiger Excavation Inc

Ted exceeded our expectations. We hired Ted to create a flat backyard and RV parking on our sloped property. Watching him excavate and move boulders with his equipment was like watching someone use a bionic arm to perform surgery. He removed our existing boulder wall, moved tons of dirt, and rebuilt the wall better than before, with little room for him to maneuver his equipment. We also had Ted dig trenches and remove part of our concrete foundation with great care to not damage the rest. He's talented, precise, creative, committed to do a good job and really pleasant to work with. We're extremely happy and highly recommend him.

Ted fit me into a tight opening in his schedule which was much appreciated and then went above and beyond with the work. True to his word and did a great job.

Ted was great. He removed a concrete slab and disposed of concrete. Also moved some large rocks in our backyard and placed nicely so we can make steps up the rocks. Did work promptly and even a little extra just to make sure everything looked just right. We are in Bend, OR. He is a good option if you are in Central Oregon.

Out of several companies, I chose Ted Rudiger, Excavation Inc. because the company spans three generations and I appreciate professional experience. Furthermore, Mr. Rudiger's estimate was fair and he was not overcharging. Mr. Rudiger and his employee were punctual and pleasant to work with. They explained the work to me at various stages and made sure that the nearby deck was properly reinforced before they started digging. Because of the narrow entrance, all materials had to be brought on site using a wheelbarrow. Mr. Rudiger had promised to do his best to spare some important vegetation and none was removed or damaged. In addition, Mr. Rudiger helped me with the complicated paperwork. He and his staff responded rapidly to my (many) inquiries and were always courteous. The site was left in good shape. We felt that the job was in reliable hands and I definitively recommend this company to others.

I would not recommend anyone to hire this company! They did a job for us and (in my opinion) they totally ripped us off. We had to hire an attorney to deal with him! We had a contract for him to remove fill dirt and put down erosion control, and he did not seem to follow the contract on many levels. We had to hire someone else to correct what they did because we continued to have issues. Consultants told us that he left 3-4 feet of dirt that was all supposed to have been removed down to native and that he put the erosion materiel the wrong way on the hill. We asked him to come back and fix what he failed to do, but he refused. If you want someone honest, in my opinion, I would not recommend anyone hire this guy!

Ted was great to work with. He was on time, did the work I asked him to do and exceeded my expectations with the overall quality of the work. There were roots that were buried I didn't know about and more earth to move than he had originally expected. We got it all done and are extremely happy with the result.

This was a great experience. The staff (Roberto, Tyler, Bruce, David and Ted) was excellent and kept me informed daily as what had happened and what was going to happen the next day. They cleaned up after each day and repaired a neighbors fence post that was slightly damaged during demolition. When unexpected issues came up, they found ways to make everything work. Ted ensured everything was done as per our agreement and a bit more. I'm very satisfied with the work done and would use them again if a project needed their expertise.

Ted and his crew came quickly, identified the problem, and got things done efficiently. The crew was professional and cleaned up, everyday, after they were done. They did a great job and we're happy with the work that they did.

This was my first experience using a contractor ever! The good report is due to Ted's two workers who were amazing! they worked incredibly hard, and did by hand what would have gone much smoother with a mechanical excavator, but they couldn't fit one onto my land. These guys worked for about two weeks, and I can't say enough good things about them. We ran into a few glitches, but when I said something, it was immediately addressed and corrected, which was nice. Bruce had questions when he wasn't sure about something, which I really appreciated. I felt he consulted with me over important details. I never saw Ted on this job, but his workers were so competent, it didn't matter. Bruce did a beautiful job with the new stairs, and even picked up some plants from the area and replanted them around the stairs, so they look great! They also hauled everything away, and I thought that the area looked very cleaned up afterwards. I know that these invasive plants can and probably will come back, because they are very hard to eradicate. Ted's contract specifies that he will remove any new plants for up to a year, but Ted said on the phone that he would actually come back anytime after that as well! That was great customer service!

Let me start by saying that I am a single woman, and not comfortable hiring people to do big jobs like this. All those horror stories about contractors immediately come to mind...but when I contacted Ted Rudiger in reference to my septic problem I felt reassured right away. I did contact several other companies for bids but decided to go with Ted Rudiger, Excavation, Inc. because of his honesty and transparency in everything that needed to be done. On his initial visit he fielded questions from my son, and a lot of basic questions from me, because I had never replaced a septic tank before. He bore the Q & A very well, was patient and did not talk down to me because I am a woman (I've had this happen several times). After it was decided that I was going to have him do the job I was put on his schedule two months out...not great but since my tank was pumped I thought my tank could hold on until then...I was wrong. Two and a half weeks before work was scheduled to start, I called Ted and told him that I was having additional problems with the septic. That is when I was reassured I had picked the right person for the job, despite being a very busy contractor, Ted juggled his jobs around and moved me up on his schedule. I called him on a Wednesday and they started work that next Monday. Such a relief! Through out the whole process his crew was pleasant and courteous, they always cleaned up after themselves at the end of the day. They even brought in mulch to put down around the area they had been working on when I expressed a concern about my dogs and cats and muddy feet! This literally brought tears to my eyes, because this was one of the jobs I thought "Ok, I need to do this right away!" Wow, who does that...no one I've EVER hired before! Plus, I also received tips on how to landscape the area where I was having some water run off problems. I never felt intimidated asking questions, and was advised through out the whole procedure how things were going. A couple of times Ted advised me about additional things that needed to be done, SHOWING me what was failing. Ok, I see the problem and yes, lets fix it! Thank you Ted! Through out this whole stressful period, I totally felt that Ted was taking care of me and not just putting in his time and getting it done, he went the extra mile to do it right with my family in mind. He also fixed an issue with water run off into my house that occurs when we have those steady hard down pours. (I have to keep sand bags at the ready through the winter). He redirected and moved the path near my back downstairs door so that it flowed down hill and not into my house. When he came upon my gutter downspout pipes in the ground, he even relocated them too! Completion of the whole job was done with only $200 above what was agreed upon for a failed septic part that I did not know had a problem. (One of the look and see issues) I have written all kinds of kudos for Ted Rudiger, Excavation, and the work he has done for me and they are all true. Honestly, I might have forgotten one or two things that he also did, beyond what he was paid to do. I am not easily impressed with people as a whole, coming from a law enforcement background, but I was and am impressed with Mr. Rudiger and his crew. I will have him do another job for me this spring/summer because when you find a good thing you stick to it.

Ted fit us into his very busy schedule- which was very appreciated- showed up on date promised and got the job done

Went very well. We had to clear a lot of debris, plants and small trees, as well as planters and arbors. Work was completed a day early, and Ted really worked with us when we needed to add a few unexpected projects to the list, including a deck removal. He even helped remove our hot tub with his excavator, getting us a discounted price with the garbage haulers, since it turned their 1 hour job into 5 minutes. Overall, very pleased with the finished product: cleared lot ready for sod and landscaping.

As a, relatively, new/first time home owner, my wife and I were smitten with the neighborhood and home we purchased, but failed to even notice all of the potential issues with the yard, and how that could impact our foundation. Basically, we had multiple parts of the yard sloping towards our house. Ted's initial consultation was an eye-opening experience, and we realized what needed to be done to protect the home, long-term. Ted's crew: Ted himself, Preston, and Roberto were all amazing. They are incredibly friendly, professional, hard-working, caring, etc., etc. - I could go on and on. Even neighbors on adjacent streets stopped by to comment on how hard-working the crew was. Ted, Preston and Roberto were able to address all of the grading issues, and with a little work on our end, we were able to have an egress window installed for thousands, yes, thousands of dollars cheaper than what other companies quoted, and the window was perfectly done. Even the guy permitting the work noted the quality in comparison to other work he has seen. I am thoroughly impressed with how our yard looks. Ted was able to move yards and yards of dirt exactly where we needed it to build a raised bed. Also, originally, we had off-street parking, but Ted was able to give us back our driveway, and add an incredible amount of value back into the home. I can't begin to thank Ted, Preston, and Roberto enough for all that they did. In fact, as soon as my wife and I get the additional cash, we're going to have Ted come back and fix our old garage. Just look at the other reviews, and the consistency of the review grades, and it's an obvious choice that you need to be working with this man, and his wonderful crew to get the work you need done. Excellent communication but not able to work with our immediate time frame.

Ted and his team were top notch. I was impressed by the quality of the work, their professionalism, and the overall experience. To be specific: Ted and his team delivered everything that they promised. They did a clean removal of a big concrete porch that wrapped around the side of our house. They left us with a clear surface of dirt angled appropriately. They were careful. They used sheer power for most of the excavation but used finesse and a careful touch when working near the foundation of the house. They were on time. They came the days they promised. They showed up on time and finished on time. They went beyond the call of duty. When it was clear that a large ugly plant was blocking the path to bringing in their equipment, Ted offered to remove it for a very reasonable price--and did a great job. Ted is extremely personable, direct, and reliable. He called to check in with me each day and at the end of the project to ensure that my wife and I were satisfied I'm very happy we hired him.

I contacted the company to get a bid on some french drain work that would have to go through several located utility lines. He was prompt and kept in good contact, and while he did quote me for the work, I was pleasantly surprised that he offered his advice on how I could perform the digging myself if I wanted, and that of course was just what I wanted to hear. I am definitely going to use him first if I need any more help, as he was honest and helpful.

I want to highly recommend Ted Rudiger Excavation Inc. In my twenty-five years living in this area, having owned three homes and having hired numerous contractors for various tasks this company has out-shined them all. This from the start of the job to the finish. I contacted Rudiger Excavation for a bid to fix a backup problem with my storm drain and Ted not only quickly identified the source of the problem (which a previous contractor had failed to do so I was charged approx. $1300 for work that did not fix the problem)but found a way fixing it that saved me a lot of money(i.e., instead of having to pay for drilling 12-13 feet down to the sewer line). Ted was very clear and precise about exactly what work would be done in the bid estimate which included replacing my sod and dirt and clean-up. Having agreed on the estimate I asked Ted if I could use an Angie's List Coupon. Even though the coupon was only for sewer or water line work(not storm drain)Ted took $150 off the bid estimate. Before he left that day Ted said that he would return Monday and do a temporary fix(storm drain extension)on my storm drain. On Sunday it rained particularly hard and Ted came to my house that morning and did the temporary fix. The work that was done included digging about 35-40 feet of an approx. one and a half foot deep trench, tunneling under the sidewalk, installing a 3 inch ABS pipe, capping the old storm drain, and replacing the sod/grass. Ted also replaced a broken sprinkler pop-up head at his own expense-even though it was damaged through lawn mowing. After the work was completed my yard still looked great even after all the trenching. I'm a very happy customer!

Existing system terminated directly into clay 10 ft from the house and was overflowing at the slightest rain or sprinkle. Ted replaced it with a drain system that took all the rain water 50-100 ft away from the house. I think it's called 'tile'. While excavating he found that our septic pipe had been damaged and replaced it without charging us. He also battled with some unexpected boulders without charge. He smoothed the excavated area and left it better than he found it. We've had many hard rains since and the drains are working like a dream!

Was very impressed with this company. Work was done very efficiently and professionally with no complaints about what was done. Ted showed a tremendous amount of heart and compassion in working with us to get this job done. After hearing about the situation in our house and the reason why we were needing the work done, Ted gave us an incredible discount without hesitation and went above and beyond what we could have expected. Would highly recommend this company!

Ted is a consummate professional who is dedicated to doing the best work for his clients. From the moment he arrived for an estimate, we knew he would do an excellent job correcting our drainage issues and preparing our yard to be landscaped. He gave a reasonable estimate and made it clear that he would stand behind his work if there were any issues. Leading up to the day of the job, he made sure we knew what he was thinking for the best approach to the job. It's not a easy thing to trust somebody with an excavator in a small backyard in close proximity to your house. But Ted is an expert at what he does. Overall the job took two days, during which he and his team installed a deep dry well, built a french drain alongside our house, corrected the grade on two sides of the house, moved a shed in our back yard into a new location, removed an old chain link fence, built a small rock wall, and left the yard level and ready to landscape and plant. In the first big rain since Ted's work was completed, everything worked perfectly. Our basement stayed dry, and the new drainage system whisked away water to the dry well. And we have the confidence that if anything does go wrong, Ted will stand by his work and make any needed corrections. Thanks for a job well done, Ted!

We had an attached garage on our new house that we wanted removed, along with the concrete driveway so that we could make space for a new backyard. They provided excellent service and got everything done in a very timely and efficient manner. They left everything very clean and ready for the next phase of our project and went above and beyond with removing debris we had in the garage from previous constructions projects. I would absolutely recommend them and would use them again for future projects if needed.
