General Tree Service

General Tree Services offered an excellent level of services. They were professional, prompt to answer our questions (phone or email) and made sure our lawn and garden looked its best. The downside is cost. Also, they did not inform us of lawn degradation while our house was on the market and we already had moved away.

Our ongoing relationship with them goes very well. These are special trees and I would not trust anyone else with their health. However, I have used other services for pruning, because General Tree is usually more expensive.

We spend normally about $45 on that work. They show up when they are supposed to and always call ahead of time and I can?t think of anything bad, otherwise I wouldn't be using them anymore. They are very responsive and professional.

Tim was very helpful in diagnosing the problem, informing me that it was late in the season to treat the scab, and recommending a short term solution for this year. He let me know of my options for the long-term: five sprays a year starting in March or replacing with scab resistant varieties.

Awesome, 3 man crew took the tree down carefully and kept my landscaping in place. Very professional...nice work

I called in October to have an estimate done. The young man that came out to the house was professional and knowledgeable. He not only advised me on what should be removed, he also suggested species of trees that would be good replacements I had decided to postpone the work until December. When I called back to schedule the work, my paperwork was on file and an appointment was easy to schedule. The workers arrived on time on the day scheduled and we walked through the property and discussed work to be done. The workers answered all my questions prior to starting. The work did not take long. At my request, the wood chips were left in the driveway. Before the workers left, we again walked around the property and reviewed the work - which looked great. After the trimming and tree removal, General Tree Service scheduled a locator so the tree stump could be ground out safely. After the locator marked the property, the stump was ground without a problem.

They always come when they say, do what they say, and are totally accessable and responsive. Excellent folks.

They did a good job on the trees. While they were out a limb fell and hit my shed which caused some damage. They sent someone else to take care of the damage. The prices were a little bit higher than some of the places, however they did very good work. It took them a little while to get back out for the repair, because they did not have the right parts. I would call them back in the future.

We were able to quickly schedule an appointment. Kevin Murphy came out to give us an estimate. He was polite and professional. Most importantly, he was very informative and incredibly helpful in discussing with us whether the tree could be saved or should be removed. He also discussed with us possible replacement trees and referred us to a source for large-sized trees. It was critical to us that the work be done quickly so there would be time to get a new tree planted before the end of the year. They were able to get a crew out to remove the tree in a week and then to get a separate crew out to do the stump grinding just 4 days later. They were very responsive in meeting our scheduling needs. Both crews were friendly, courteous and professional.

The whole experience was great. The arborist, Greg, came out and measured the tree for an estimate, which I received the same day. The job was done within one week. A two-man crew was here most of the day. I appreciated that they were continually checking with me to make sure I approved of what got trimmed and what stayed. They had respect for the plants under the tree and were careful not to hurt them. I'm sure the rest of the neighborhood appreciated, as did I, that they would only run the chipper after making a large pile so it went off and on throughout the day. The crew was punctual and respectful. After clean-up, I couldn't tell that they had been there except the tree looked spectacular!

It went well. I do recommend staying home and talking to the crew to let them know what your expectations are. We changed some plans based on the opinion of the crew boss. We were going to cut down a hedge and after much consultation, I was convinced it could be transformed. I watched the Japanese maple being pruned and this really increased my confidence in the company.

One year I had them come out at least three times due to a wedding that we were having. They did a nice job with that. The only small thing that I don't like is that they don't give me a days notice before they come out to do the work (this is for the lawn service only, the orchard people make appointments). We will continue to use them on an as needed basis. The approximate cost is for the orchard.

On Jan. 23rd of 2009 I called General Tree Svc. having seen their name on Angie's List. I talked with Kevin Murphy and asked him to do an estimate on pruning limbs and removing another tree that was dead. Within a couple days he came out and we went over what I wanted done. He spent about 5 - 10 minutes afterwards making a drawing of tree that needed pruning, the tree that was to be removed and the limbs to be removed from another tree. After receiving another estimate from another tree service I decided to go with General. I called and let the secretary know of my decision and she let me know when the workers would come out and perform the tasks. The workers arrived on the day promised and proceeded to do the work. During the course of the work being performed I observed the progress and noticed a couple items that I still had questions about. I talked with the worker and changes made after being informed that more trimming in addition to the 1 or 2 extra limbs that would be cut would cause the tree to act like a "sail" during high wind gusts. Knowing their expertise as arborists I was glad he informed me of the "sail" effect. At no time did I feel the workers were put out by me asking questions or performing more tasks. After the work was done we again talked and they asked me if everything had be done I had wanted. I let them know that everything was done to my complete satisfaction and more. The cleanup job they did was outstanding and when they left, I couldn't have been more pleased by the work they did.

Their service is excellent. They're very good. They come by, do it and then just bill us. They take really good care of our plants. We've gotten on a first name basis with the service guy.

It was good-they did what we wanted done. It was in the time they said it was and for the amount of money they said it would be. The crew that came out did not look like something that came off skid row-they were pleasant, non-smoking professionals. They did a good job.

It went fine. They came and cut the tree down and moved the wood to a place where it was convenient for us to keep it. The only problem arose was when they dropped a large piece onto the neighbor's chain link fence that bent it a little bit. They fixed the fence though. It went all right otherwise and it turned out okay.

I had used General Tree Service many years ago to remove a very large dead pine. They'd done such a good, clean job that I called them again when it came time to do something about the two overgrown spruce. I was concerned about them falling in a storm and damaging my neighbor's property, although they said that spruce have a much better root system than doug fir, so that I shouldn't be overly concerned. But these trees were beginning to take over the yard and were dwarfing the front of my small bungalow. So I went ahead and had them removed. This is not a job for amateurs. They were very careful in their work and left me with a fair amount of firewood that my neighbor and I split with her log splitter. They subcontracted the stump grinding. That added to the cost, but I think it's well worth it because I had not had the stump ground on the previous tree and it looked unsightly for years and finally ended up full of termites. Anyway, it's nice to have the extra sun shining in my front window and I've had many compliments from my neighbors on how much better my property looks without those huge old trees out front.

I ACTUALLY WAS NOT THERE. THEY DID THE WORK SO FAST. FROM WHAT I CAN SEE, THE JOB WAS DONE VERY WELL. THEY GOT THE ROOTS AND ALL. NO DAMAGE TO NEIGHBORS PROPERTY OR SURROUNDING TREES AND SHRUBS.

Frankly, I'm more impressed with the actions of a company when something goes wrong than when everything goes right. David came out promptly, walked the property with me, gave helpful suggestions, didn't rush and was completely professional. We agreed upon the following: 1 - Removal of split tree and debris generated. 2 - Prune back 2 leaning leaders in plum tree and remove debris generated. On the work day, I was called away and the work crew had to go by the written instructions. Job well done but they trimmed the plum tree leaders closest to my house, rather than the 2 that were over my neighbor's property. I called General Tree the next business day. Their response characterizes the "best." They put me in contact with David (who remembered me). A crew was dispatched the next morning and took care of the limbs. No fuss. No whine. Just win the customer with one's best service.

General tree service came out the same day and gave an estimate for the job. Very professional and prompt response to my inquiry. We have decided to do the work ourselves. Thanks again for your prompt response.

Proposal was very well done. I called Kevin to explain that the proposed cost was somewhat higher than I had budgeted, but would liked to have spoken to him about possible options. I never received a call back -- or if I did there was no message left. I would have liked to have given them the opportunity to discuss a means of getting this accomplished.

General Tree Service representatives were very responsive. They came out within a few days of the original call to provide an estimate. They followed up via phone. They were prompt in scheduling the work and were even able to come out in advance due to an opening in their schedule. In addition to pruning the diseased Dogwood tree, they were able to also prune a few low branches in our Maple tree for no additional cost. They did an excellent job, and cleaned up thoroughly. We were very pleased.

They gave a very detailed assessment, and told us what they would recommend that we do with the trees around the house. When we decided to go ahead with the work, they let us know that it would be several weeks - but then a date opened earlier. They called the morning they were scheduled to come out to remind us. We were not at home when they did the actual work, but were very pleased with the results and the clean up. We would definitely use them again.

They showed up on a busy day before a windstorm was due and within an hour had the tree down, neatly missing rose bushes and houses. They took time to cut up what I couldn't do easily with my shorter electric chainsaw, even though they were at the end of their work day, because there was a two-hour minimum and they wanted to be sure to do what they could for me in that time. Great service!
