General Tree Service

We have been customers of General Tree Services for years. A tree they perform routine maintenance fell on our roof. We didn't blame them for the fallen branch that punctured our roof, we simply wanted an estimate to get the branch off our roof so that we can proceed with the repair. A representative of this company came to give us an estimate and he was rude, and wanted me to sign a proposal that did not have the totals we had discussed. I mentioned that I do not like to sign contracts that do not estipulate a value and he said: "Well, this is how we do it, if you can't sign it, then you should look for someone else". I asked again if that meant he didn't want us to be repeating customers (Our oak needs treatments, and pruning, over the years we have spent over 10K on that tree) He said: "Do as you wish" This company also as per our recommendation "helped" a neighbor to deal with a fallen tree during last year's fires. They left the debris for weeks on the street. It took us too long to realize how expensive and incompetent they are. I just hope you don't make the same mistake as we did.

The estimate was quick and easy--very clear. The workers showed up on time, did a fantastic job, and cleaned up after themselves very well. I would hire this company again when the need arises.

Mike did a beautiful artistic job pruning four trees and shrub in our front yard. He was right on time, and cleaned the clippings up nicely. Thank you to Paul for providing a timely and accurate cost estimate. I will definitely hire them again.

They trimmed two trees and a azela. We've used them for a long time.

They've been servicing me for about five years. I've had issues. The owner's son just took over the business. He has been very attentive. He actually saw my negative yelp review and reached out to me.

Things went well for quite some time, then this summer I started having issues with these folks. The first time was when a new guy (I assume) came out to spray, he only did the Cypress in the front yard, not the most important thing to me which is my Arborvitaes in the back yard. He first sat in his truck for 20 minutes and they sprayed the front only and left me a bill for $75.00. I called the company the next day and left a message with the Manager of the Tree Service part of the business. He stated he would find out what happened and call me back, he did not call me back but had one of his guys call me back and tell me he would be out later in the week to spray the Arborvitaes in back, which he did. The next time they came, once again the Cypress was sprayed and not my Arborvitaes, the note Scott left said that he sprayed the Cypress and shrubs in the front yard. I called and again was transferred to the Manger, whom I left a lengthy voice mail for. He called me back on Friday and said Scott was off for the day and he would check in with him on Monday, and once AGAIN, instead of calling me back himself, he had Scott call me back. Scott stated he in fact did not spray my Arbs but would be out tomorrow to do so. I would prefer the Manager stay abreast of these issues and take some responsibility rather than make his Technicians call me back. The final thing that irritates me is that their bill states "this visit includes a complete landscape inspection with appropriate treatments made to control insects such as lace bug, mites and root weevil". That is total BS they are normally in and out of here in 5 minutes, and don't do any of those things.

We have used them for the past five years. They come out every three months. They are great. I feel they are expensive. The workers are always nice. They are very prompt.

I have been using the company for at least 10-15 years. They do a decent job and will chip and haul away their mess. The staff are very friendly and come out as scheduled. They have been sending out 2 technicians recently. They used to send out three and they were able to do the entire service in a full day then. They are very knowledgeable and give great advice. I am happy and satisfied with what they do. Their pricing seems to be reasonable and has not changed much over the years.

They arrived on time - called to confirm they were on their way. Got right to it, after we re-reviewed the work to be done. No damage, they worked well together, and got it done quickly. They chipped the branches and debris, split the wood for us to keep, and left the place looking good.

Very good, they were quick, they were good they were punctual.

I have used General Tree Service in the past and was very satisfied with their work. I needed limbs on several trees taken off that are around my house. I called General Tree and Kevin Murphy came out on May 1st for an estimate. After talking to me and what I wanted, he provided me with an estimate and drawing of each tree to be limed. I made an appointment for General Tree to do the job on May 9th. The two workers arrived on time and again went over the work I wanted them to do. Both were very friendly and professional. They accomplished all tasks plus a couple little additions that was not discussed on the original estimate; I was not charged with these. After completing all that was needed the female worker showed me all that was done and explained any questions that I had. I wouldn't hesitate to use General Tree in the future for any work pertaining to trees around my home. I would also recommend them to anyone needing work done. I couldn't be more satisfied with their work from start to finish.

Was provided a quote and they did their best to break it up based on presumed length of time spent on each neighbors property. I took the quote to the neighbors and they all agreed to pitch in. When one of the neighbors wanted additional information, I was able to schedule another appointment to come back out and discuss the quote will myself and the other neighbors so everyone was on the same page. They made some exceptions to come back out to perform the work so as not to conflict with our work schedules as we wanted to be home when all this took place. At 8:00 sharp the technicians showed up and introduced themselves. The walked around to the back yard and discussed the plans with me. The tech had some different opinions then the guy quoting us, and I agreed with his explanations (he was a certified arboritist as well). There were two guys that doned full battle gear and climbed up into the tree and roped themselves off. It was like watching a circus act as these guys had ropes and tools hanging off their belts, where walking out on branches 2" in diameter to cut them off at the ends and lower them slowly to the ground. Once I saw them hanging upside down so they could get to one branch without breaking any of the others. As the branches were lowered to the ground, a third person hauled them out to the driveway where they were placed into an industrial chipper. The proceeded to clean up all leaves and debris from my yard as well as the neighbor's yards before knocking on the door and showing me everything that had been done. It was after 12 noon when they left, taking a full 4+ hours to do a job originally quoted as 3...and the quote did change from the original. I definitely appreciate being kept in the loop on everything and knowing they took extra care to make certain I was going to be happy with the results. The bill came in the mail 3 days later with a 30 day payment due date.

Excellent all around service from the initial bid and job description to the finished work, including cleanup. This is the 2nd time we have used their service and will certainly do so again should the need arise.

Got an estimate for the work. Arborists came as scheduled, did pruning and thinning as arranged. However, they said that one maple scheduled for pruning was too diseased to keep and recommended removing it. I called back the estimator, and he looked at it again. He suggested it could wait until the last trunk on the original tree was ready to be removed, and then do it all together. That would minimize the work for getting removal permits and save the trees as long as feasible. I appreciated the suggestion and will call them to remove the two trees in a couple of years.

There was a mix up on my appt time -recently (I've had them out a few times since moving to a new house in 2007) Dave from general tree was very responsible and came right out and pruned my trees. I was very impressed - got it done same day and just a few hours later. Had them back for a larger tree. I contact Greg at General Tree for evaluations and estimates - he is excellent and available via email - comes promptly with estimates and with my most recent one suggested aphid treatment for my large tree which was seriously infested (unknown to me but I appreciated very much knowing and getting at the problem). They are very very knowledgeable and often give you tips on simple things to do for your plants and trees if you are home when they come. At Dave's suggestion I am now putting containers with holes to SLOW water my trees during hot spells. My trees look so much better this year just with more water! Greg has also given good advice about scheduling fertilizing, city trees vs. country trees - needs in certain environments. Greg's estimates are always spot on and he is very prompt at getting an estimate to me and explaining the timing of the service - since this is sometimes dependent on the tree and weather. Frankly I wish General TREE did more than plants They are one of the best finds! Were recommended to me by Gary Nebergall who prunes trees. I will continue to have General Tree out. they knock on the door and let me know they are here and check in with me about starting the work, explaining etc. If I'm not here I find a note in a plastic bag on the door explaining what they did. When their bills arrives in the mail I can call them and pay with a credit card. I purchased two young trees from them early on in my new house and have continued to contact them because they are such a good group of people, knowledgeable, prompt and I am kept in the loop with minimal effort on my part (no calling and calling - they come when they say they will and I bring up the mix up in timing only because they did such a great job of dealing with it - it was the first time this happened and they had gotten in a lot of work but I was still important enough with my small job of trimming my small trees that they took care of me. Highly recommend!

They come out automatically to spray our fruit trees and roses every few months. They do all of our spraying and have been for about 5 years now. They always let us know when they are coming. We have been very pleased with them as they are very knowledgeable.

A couple of years back General Tree Service did some tree service for me. I know them as a satisfactory service provider.Their charges are reasonable.

They don?t to any trimming or any other work for me as they are a little expensive for that kind of job. They come on a regular basis and I pay $110 for each visit. According to Angie?s list reports a lot of them were using this company for the same kind of service that I was looking for, and they seemed to be pleased with the outcome; so I thought I will give them a try. They are doing a fine job. I will recommend them. So far I have not had any problem with the trees.

They were very responsive, appear to have done a terrific job, and no mess. I think they may have even done extra pruning of my some of my rose bushes ( better than I can do!). between the time I called and the time they came, maybe 4 days, and always called before they came, and left a note re: what they did. I would definitely use them again, although they are a bit expensive. Very professional.

I have an annual fertilizing and treatment program with them. The price I paid the last time they were out included the lawn fertilization and treatment. I keep hiring them back to do work in my yard because my landscape looks good and the annual service plan is convenient. They just come and fertilize when it needs it. They are reliable and their work is good. They are careful with my property. They are not the least expensive provider so if I ever thought about switching, I would think about the cost as probably the reason I would do that. I just think they are expensive.

Excellent, took extra care to not damage surround plants/trees. Some areas of the ground around the tree took some abuse but as much as expected, it was a BIG tree. Excellent work overall, I will use them again.

The price was a little high, but the experience was great. They were caring professionals from beginning to end. Kevin Murphy was always responsive to my questions and emails, and the tree work was exemplary - particularly the planting of the new tree. The guys who did that part clearly cared deeply about the work they were doing and the tree they were planting. It's not an exaggeration to say it was inspiring.
