Deck Rejuvenations

I am extremely pleased with the service and the result. Bill came out promptly to give an estimate. His cost was higher than other bids that I requested, but the process he uses is significantly more labor intensive. Instead of chemically stripping the deck, his process employs two rounds of sanding before stain application. Additionally, he was the ONLY contractor that mentioned resetting any nails/screws that were backing out. The guys that came to do the work were professional, courteous, and hardworking. They moved ALL of the furniture, plants, and two barbecues from the deck. It was clear that they were very detailed about their work and took pride in it. The final result was outstanding. The deck has never looked this good, and this is the third restaining that I've had done (the first two times by a different contractor). The guys even returned after the stain was fully dry to put the stuff back on the deck and to make sure the area was cleaned. Overall, a very positive experience and a beautiful result. I highly recommend this contractor.

This review involves 3 service providers that I called for my deck refurbishing (cleaning, sanding, & restain). More details below, but the bottom line is that I had the best luck with the category of home maintenance (rather than deck maintenance), such as Schopp?s Home Maintenance. They were responsive, fairly prompt to get the work done, and did a nice job. It?s a large deck, with main section over 60 feet long, and there is also an adjacent side deck where the hot tub sits. Portland Deck Refinishing called me and said they were coming out to give a bid. They never followed up with the bid or a call back. Deck Renovations was nice enough to come out, but told me my deck was in bad condition and needed a lot of work done. They estimated about $4500 for my side deck, and roughly estimated about $20,000 for the main deck. So overall, I was most happy with Schopp?s Home Maintenance.

The 3 young men were very polite, professional and courteous. They communicated when leaving for lunch and at end of day and asked for clarifications to confirm requirements, as needed. The project took several days due to weather related delays. No complaints as that is expected in early Spring. There was a bit of scheduling miscommunication between workers and main office. The crew showed up to work in the morning after weather delay (no issue for me) but main office called after they had arrived to let me know they were coming later that morning. Had my availability at the house been an issue, the lack of clear communication from the main office on project timing and rescheduling due to weather might have caused problems. So there is room for improvement for those that aren't as flexible. Overall, I'm very pleased with the look and feel of the deck. We've been enjoying it a lot this spring & summer.

Connection quickly made by owner followed by a plan and estimate. To reduce our cost and hassle, work began very soon after on 09/08/2014, and was completed on 09/22/2014. Much of the work took place while we were on vacation in Europe, but communication continued via e-mail, keeping us up date and issues clarified. All the work was completed by the owner and a team of very polite, efficient, skilled, neat, and efficient young men who worked their tails off. This team transformed our neglected and rotting deck into a beautiful deck for enjoyment and entertaining.

Bill and his co-worker showed up on time to clean our deck, which was filthy and dangerously slippery when wet due to algae. It took them about three hours to complete the job, which was no small feat given the size of the deck and the amount of railing. Deck Rejuvenations does not use pressure washers to clean; instead, the apply a (enviro-friendly) cleaning solution, then scrub the surfaces with brushes. We are pleased with the result. Even between the boards, the dirt, fir needles and algae is gone. Even though we won't be able to finish the job by staining the wood until next year, the deck looks amazing--and it's safe to walk on to boot. If you plan to use Deck Rejuvenations, be sure to plan ahead. More than a month elapsed between my first call to Bill and the day he showed up to do the job. He told me at our initial meeting that it would be a couple weeks before he could schedule me, and I had to call and email him after a month had gone by to get on the schedule. Regardless, I would hire him again. He and his co-worker do excellent work. I'm looking forward to their finishing the job next year.

The project went fantastically well. Bill Cumby (Owner of Deck Rejuvenations) had to deal with a deck which had no nails, screws, etc. visible from anywhere on the deck, which made it very difficult to estimate how much time is was going to take to do the project. Therefore, his estimate was in fact a "guestimate" to which we both agreed. He was sure that he would not exceed that figure but he needed a little wiggle room, just in case. The actual bill came in 20% below his guestimate. I bring this up to let you that Bill is the consummate professional. Now for the project itself. We were blown away by the fact that Deck Rejuvenations prepped, demo-ed, rebuilt, stained, and put everything back on the deck in 6 working days. At the end of every day, the work place was "spic and span." They even had a large magnet to pick up all of the nails that fell to the ground during the demo process, and even used the magnet on our driveway (on the opposite side of the house) to make sure that they had not dropped any nails that might find their way into our tires. Bill Cumby has made a science out of decks (he is a graduate engineer by education and former work experience), and it shows in his work. His associates have the same passion about Deck Rejuvenations as Bill does, which is a very positive reflection on his ability to recruit, train, and motivate them. His crew chief, Ivan, was awesome, and made this project run smooth as silk. We highly, highly recommend Deck Rejuvenations. Thank you Angie's List for this sensational recommendation.

Bill seemed to really know his stuff when I had him give me an estimate to refinish my deck; plus, he gave me a very detailed estimate for the job. He was also very personable. In the end, I wound up giving the job to another company.

Looks great! Crew was on time and worked hard. Only improvement would be clean up of sawdust left everywhere near deck I had to care of.

Three very nice guys spent almost two days replacing boards and sanding our 600 sq. ft. deck. They had a couple different types of sanders, one large heavy duty one to sand the majority of the deck and one to get into the small places like around the railing posts. I was impressed by their dedication to the sanding portion of the project.

Excellent. The crew which did the work were outstanding.

Crew of 4 worked 3 full days completing the refinish job. They removed patio furniture and large potted plants from both decks and replaced them after the decks were dry. Always on time, courteous and answered all of our questions. The deck looks fantastic - better than new - and we will have them back to maintain it on an annual basis. I hope we get the same team, as they were great.

This provider was one of the most professional I've ever met....continued to keep in touch regarding start date, provided a very professional team and owner stopped over several times to make sure we were happy with the work being done. Workers were on time everyday and worked a full day unless the heat was too bad. Always communicated with us if they had to leave for any reason. When asked to "twink" a few things they said "sure" with a smile on their faces....no questions asked...only advise. I felt safe being home alone while they were working and even left the house several times and had no fear. THEY WERE FANTASTIC! THE DECK IS A PIECE OF ART...MORE THAN WE IMAGINED!

I was very impressed with the professionalism, work ethic quality of work of the employees of Deck Rejuvenations. They paid attention to detail and worked continuously until the job was done. We were interrupted by rain for a few days and they came back on a Sunday to finish the job. They also did a thorough job cleaning up everything after completing the project.

Four college students, who were efficient and courteous, did all the work in one day. The quality of the work was excellent. The mahogony grain now shows through in its natural magnificent colors. It is clear that Bill Cumby runs a high quality and efficient service and knows the deck rejuvination business very well.

All the crew members were polite and efficient. They were dedicated to doing an excellent job and performed very professionally.

The crew was very professional and did a great job. The owner is very good in communicating the plan of attack and schedule. We had issues with weather disrupting the work and the company always made the right decision to get the best results,even if that meant delaying or more work. For example, rain unexpectedly caused problems with a portion of the work. Other companies might have cut corners but DR re-sanded and re-stained where necessary without any of my input or comment. The crew is obviously trained to focus on quality and to provide a good customer experience, which is nice. The lead on our job, Merrick, did a great job of dealing with us. We will use DR in the future for refresh work and wholeheartedly recommend them.

He never responded and I am not happy with that. I would use him if he responded.

It went very well. Bill gave me the initial estimate in June, and gave me the news that they wouldn't be able to start the work until September, due to all the work in line ahead of me. Sigh. However, they were able to start in August. The job grew as the depth of decay in the existing deck surfaces became clear - what was gonna be two resurfaced decks grew to be all three + the gazebo... The crew was at my house for about three weeks, and gave a mighty push at the end to get it done before some of the team was due to return to college. The construction "boss", Ivan, is a talented builder, and T.J. kept me informed of progress and what to expect. The old, black, slippery decks with touches of old grey semi-transparent stain are now a glistening brown with the beautiful cedar grain visible. I am very pleased with the job Deck Rejuvenations did, and will recommend them to my friends and neighbors when they admire my new decks!

He was prompt,,,and very polite. He said he'd be out in a couple of days to fix the problem. After working on the deck a few weeks ago, couple of boards had popped up I would certainly hire him again in the future, and recommend him to anyone wanting a job well done. there was no charge for the replacement.

At the time I was upset that they raised the estimate after work had begun. They are very hard to reach by phone and e-mail. I would give their work only a 8.....

The team that performed my work was excellent. They put in long days and the finished product looks great. Despite having to replace some boards unexpectedly the cost was still very close to the initial estimate. It was not cheap, but not out of line for the work being done and the time required. I'm very happy with the results and found them to be easy to work with. Will definitely call them again for some work on my front porch later this year.
