The remodeling experience was less stressful than we expected. The Service Guy and his staff all seem cognizant to our situation, no kitchen, dust everywhere and shuffling pets around. The Service Guy made efforts to ease the experience by installing plastic zipper walls to confine the dust and alerted us to the schedule and duties of the workers present each day. The Service Guy(James Lambert) stopped by the job site regularly to check on progress and to communicate with us any situations that may concern us. He was friendly, approachable and professional, making us feel comfortable to ask questions and share our ideas. We were given assistance when deciding on materials and appliances that were quality but also available with in our budget. The designer/business manager(Yana Lambert) did a great job of keeping us informed of our budget and was also very informative ordering cabinets, choosing fixtures and materials that would compliment our ideas and the remodel as a whole. The remodel has given our outdated house a breath of fresh air. It is functional and beautiful. We would be happy to recommend The Service Guy and his staff to anyone eager to remodel hoping for quality and beautiful results.
Description of Work: The Service Guy remodeled our small kitchen. Our home is a typical ranch style house with a formal living area coming off the entry which leads on to a small kitchen. We called The Service Guy to help us design and remodel the small kitchen enlarging it by removing the wall between the formal living room and kitchen. The Service Guy and designer were able to meet our needs by removing the supporting wall with a beam and two pillars opening the space to include a large beautiful island opening the space and letting light flow in. New cabinets and several new appliances along with updated light fixtures and granite counter tops were installed. The remodel also included a beautiful tile back splash and tile flooring.

Wonderfully! From the beginning, James and Yana made everything work. They came together to do the estimate, which was to the penny what I was eventually charged. James had great ideas about how to do the frameless door. He checked on the progress of the project regularly. The whole team, plumbing and tile, were hard working, tidy, and friendly. I am hoping to use The Service Guy for my kitchen in the next year.

Their service was very good. It was the first time I went through a job like this. They listened to my concerns and had good ideas. They were able to tell us everything we needed to do and had many options. The finished product is fantastic and is easily accessible. I got three other quotes and theirs was very reasonable.

I had a particular project that needed to be done quickly so I called various companies for estimates and availability for the time frame that I needed. I described in detail the project and they gave me an approximate bid and were available, so I had them come to the house to verify the job/price. I was sent an email later that raised the price $2,000 (more than double!) over their initial bid. I found someone else to do the job (and a great one at that!) from Angie' List for even less than their initial bid. I didn't appreciate their upticking the price so much.

I'm sorry to hear that you were unhappy with our estimate. We do our best to be upfront with our pricing so there are no unforeseen price increases after we start the job. You had asked that we give you a ballpark price over the phone which we did and we also explained that it's extremely difficult to say without seeing the job. Once we saw what needed to be done and what would be required to bring it up to code we realized the price would be much higher than we originally anticipated. We explained in detail why the price would be higher in the email containing the itemized estimate and apologized for the misunderstanding over the phone. I am, however, happy to hear that the job was completed and you are happy with the contractor that did the job.

That was the worst experience that we have ever had. He started the project before we were ready for him to start. He did not listen. We asked him to wait just a couple of weeks until my husband could work out the details with him and he took it completely wrong. He charged us the entire thing and did not even complete the work. He never gave us the sink and we just walked away from the whole thing. We did not even get what we paid for out of him. He actually responded and we easily got him to see us. It was not that he was late but he started before we told him to start.

They spent an hour or so with me, asked some questions. I explained that I had never done a major remodel before and would look to them for ways to save money. I explained what I wanted, a banquet in the kitchen, new counter tops and tile backsplash, a new stove top and vent hood. I also needed the bar dropped in ht. and widened, (it was only 10" to start!) And I wanted to add a base cabinet and wall cabinet. I needed some ideas on what to do with a problem area. The Bathroom was not as complicated. Originally I wanted to completely gut it and start with new tile, but when I was told that would be VERY expensive (by all three contractors I got estimates from), I decided to just remove the facet and part of a wall to open up the shower some. I also wanted the bath refinished. Yana & James went away with a promise to get me a quote within the week. I never received one. I called them and left a message and did not get a call back either. Looking back on it, I decided that they really didn't want to do as inexpensive of a job as I was looking at. Everything she said and suggested while they were here was all based on a MUCH higher end home than I have. I guess I just didn;t have enough money for them. I felt they were VERY unprofessional in not sending me a quote, or even returning my calls. Obviously the job went to someone else. Looking at the reviews since I originally read them, I'm glad I did not go with them!

[member name removed], I'm truly sorry that you are upset that we had not sent out the estimate. It was our understanding from the voicemail you had left that you had already chosen another contractor. We had explained that we were going out of town the next day and wouldn't be able to write the estimate for one week. When we got back in town and saw that you had already chosen another contractor we decided you would not be needing our estimate. Looking back on it we should have returned your call and for that I apologize. We always do our best to be punctual but with traffic and other unforeseen circumstances we always set our appointments with a 30 minute variable. We always try to explain this during the initial phone call but if we had forgotten to do so I apologize. Sometimes it can be difficult to understand what it is that each customer is wanting to get out of their remodel so we make it a habit to give as many options as possible so that we can get an accurate understanding of how you would like everything to turn out and what your budget will allow. This could have been interpreted in a way that could have led you to believe that your job was to inexpensive for us, this is simply not the case. We take every job seriously, whether it be grout repair or a full kitchen remodel every single job is equally significant to us.

My initial experience with James and Yana was very positive. They came out to the house, measured the areas and gave me the number of square feet to order from the tile company they work with. I went to the tile store to order the tile and paid for it separately from the labor estimate give by The Service Guy. Things that went well: The finished product is great. James and Yana were always accessible by phone. Things that could have gone better: The tile installer was not given directions to my home so he was late in getting started and finished a couple of days later than projected. Also, when I arrived at home there was a muddy-footed puppy running through my house, owned by the installer. Painters were also working at the house so, in fairness, it made it difficult to keep an unleashed dog out of the home. However, we just installed new new carpet so it bothered me. The installer did excellent work, but left a mess that took me two hours to clean up ... footprints & markings in the shower, and mud from the grout. Perhaps this is to be expected on a job like this. I have never had tile work done before and was a little spoiled because the painters were so immaculate in their cleanup. After the job was complete, we had a full box of tile left over ... 40 tile plus an additional 12. The tile store will take the box back but will deduct a 20% restocking fee. I thought since The Service Guy took measurements, the amount of tile left over was excessive but when I called Yana, she did not take ownership of this over-abundance of leftovers and directed me to call the tile store and explained there would be a re-stocking fee.

I had much the same experience as the 9/13 and 11/14/2012 reviewers. I had TSG over to look a the project I described above. During our initial discussion they provided three recommendations for toilets -- Brand A, Brand B and economy Brand X. I said I had never heard of Brand X but would prefer Brand B based on experience in our previous home. Nevertheless when we got the quote, it specified Brand X. When I said we really wanted Brand B, they agreed to check with their wholesaler and revise the estimate. After about a week they came back and said the toilets we wanted were discontinued and no longer available. We told them that was not the case because the manufacturer's website and several online retailers listed them as available. After a few more days they came back with a "wholesale" estimate that was 30% above the "retail" prices we had seen online. Obviously, they had not even attempted to check availability or get the best price for us. They also initially quoted what appeared to be a very low price for the marble to be used for the vanities. In addition, the contract required us to by a whole slab even though or project would use only half that much. When we asked where we could view the marble, they gave us the names of three suppliers. Two of them didn't have the marble they recommended at all, and the third only had slabs that were thicker than what we wanted. When we reluctantly agreed to consider the thicker slab from the third provider, they sent us a revised estimate with a price increase of 250%! They also insisted that the contract be signed before they would send a fabricator to verify that our faucets would fit the thicker marble, which their own supplier told us could be an issue. Lastly, after checking with a few local merchants on the shower enclosure, which had been omitted entirely from the initial estimate, we found that there are a host of options and that the price they quoted seemed much lower than market for what we wanted. When we requested specifics on what options were included in the item they bid, they stopped responding entirely. Based on the other prices we got, we estimate the cost of this item would have increased by about 50%. We ended up going with a different fabricator for the vanities who was much more transparent, responsive, and only required us to buy the marble to be used for our own project. And since we had done all our own legwork anyway, we ordered the toilets and sinks ourselves and hired a plumber to install them. The shower enclosure is still pending since the cost is much greater than what TSG led us to believe. Long story short, this contractor either had no idea of the price or availability of the items they bid, or they deliberately lowballed the initial quote to get the contract signed and would then raise their prices to reflect the cost of what they knew we actually wanted. We would not trust them to do any project we would have in the future.

I needed to have work done on my home in order to put it on the market. I gave them my inspection report and a list of items that I wanted done. I requested proof of insurance as well. They provided me with the insurance paperwork very quickly. They also got to work very quickly. They were prompt and professional. They did the work I asked for and notified me when they saw some things I might also want done, which I appreciated. All of the work looks great and I am very pleased. As far as price goes I would not say they are inexpensive but I was not unhappy with the price either. They were well worth what I paid and I am very pleased with the work. I would recommend them to friends and neighbors.

The tile worker frequently arrived late and took many more hours each day than we were told. He was very messy in his work, getting not only dust all over (which is expected), but also leaving grout stuck into the celing and walls. He also did very little to clean up what mess he made on the floor. We were ultimately charged more than quoted. More tiles had to be replaced, some of which was because he damaged some while replacing others. We also got charged more for materials than if we had just gone to Lowes to get the materials. We tried calling the owner several times after the last of the work was completed to discuss the fees and the work, but have never gotten a call back. I think we ended up paying for tiles that were replaced that weren't our fault, for materials that were more expensive than anywhere in the area, and for hours worked when the work should have taken about half as long as it did. Very unhappy with out experience.

?The Service Guy? was selected based on recommendations found on Angie's List. James Lambert is ?The Service Guy? and I was impressed with his imagination, experience, ability to communicate, and most of all, his common sense. He and his crew were friendly, reliable, and worked hard. The original renovation plan for my old house was often complicated by changes and unforeseen issues that inevitably crop up. James and crew were very accommodating in dealing with each of these. The final cost of the renovation was very close to the original estimate. ?The Service Guy? well deserves my highest recommendation!
Description of Work: Major upgrade of 2 bathrooms which included gutting and then repairing a floor and wall damaged by water. Next came installation of Durarock sub-flooring, replacement of toilets and plumbing fixtures, counter top, shower door, new tile inside bathtub area, shower, and floors. Bathrooms, cabinets, cabinet doors, bathtub were repainted and a large framed mirror installed. Plumbing work included a new touch faucet in kitchen and resolution of a drainage issue. Other upgrades of the house included replacement of 1 exterior door and 7 interior doors, installation of Durarock sub-flooring in the entryway, kitchen, dinning area, and laundry room before replacing all floor tile. In the living room, dinning room, and den, existing carpeting was pulled up and replaced by laminate wood flooring. Wrought iron handrails were installed at 2 entry doors and TSG’s electrician replaced 2 wall lanterns next to the doors. In addition he repositioned a hanging lamp in the dinning area, rewired light switch, and ran concealed wiring and coaxial cable in the den for a home theater system.

he gave us the original estimate that we would be using 2 x 6 marble tile. So I called him and I agreed to pay the additional $150 for a total of $1220.00 and he agreed as well. Later that day, the DAY BEFORE work was supposed to start, he sent a revised estimate for an additional cost of $225.00 for a total of $1445.00. We canceled the work, because we no longer felt we could trust him.
Description of Work: We had scheduled him to install a bathtub 11/14/12 through 11/16/12. He had originally given us an estimate of $1000.00 when he came out to look at the bathroom and before we scheduled him to do the work. The day before the work was to begin, he sent us a written estimate for $1070.00, but included a statement that natural stone would be $150.00 additional. He also included a statement that tiles less than 8" will incur an additional charge. We told him the day

The Service Guy's crew did a great job. They protected the interior of my house before they started working each day, and they cleaned up very thoroughly. They were very focused on the details, which I truly appreciated. I highly recommend The Service Guy.
Description of Work: I recently had some lighting updated on my kitchen ceiling that left quite a few holes and scuffs due to some demo work the electrician had to do. Since, the holes had to be repaired, I also decided that it would be a good time to update my kitchen walls. The Service Guy's crew repaired the holes and textured the sheetrock to match the existing ceiling texture. They also removed the existing wallpaper, smoothed the walls, and added a texture that matched the ceiling. Finally, they primed and painted the walls and ceiling. The job was completed in five days.

I chose him because of his reputation on Angie’s List. Somebody else reaped my bathroom out, but he did everything else; he put it all back together, and the price was fair. They did some damage in another part of my house when they were bringing something in to some hardwood floors. I called and told them about it. James, in particular, came out that day, followed-up, and got the company who put them in to come in and repair it to our satisfaction. He was just wonderful about the entire thing. So, that was very much the strong reason why I would suggest him to somebody else.
