The plumber was supposed to specialize in tankless water heaters, but couldn't figure out what the exact cause of the problem was. He left without resolving my problem. The Heat and Air company I called later to fix the furnace and leak in the attic also stayed late, working on my tankless water heater. This contractor was able to discover the problem and get it to light correctly until the cover was installed. The water heater has an inherent design problem.
Description of Work: I called to have the plumbing company look at my tankless water heater, and a water leak in the ceiling. They referred me to a Heat and Air company for the leak in the attic which was causing mold in the ceiling. The leak was due to my furnace being installed incorrectly by Air Climate Mechanical. The plumber then sent another plumber to look at my tankless water heater. He arrived a short while later and checked it out for approx. 45 min. However he wasn't able to make any adjustments or repairs. He also wasn't able to recommend anywhere to go for parts, or help. The water heater wasn't lighting correctly. He ended up charging me a lot for doing not much of anything.

New unit installed April 2011 was freezing up and not blowing cold air. Called Harp at 2:30 on a Saturday and told him the problem. He said he had a service tech out sick but would try to find someone to come out and fix it. He wanted me to call him right back and leave my address and phone info on their recording machine because he was at a graduation right then. I asked him if he would call me back and tell me either way so if he couldn't come out I'd see if I could get someone else. He said he would. I waited for him to call me back for 2 hours (until 4:30) and called another company, who said they would come out first thing in the morning. I called Harp back and got a recording and told him I had gotten someone else. Customer Service gets an "F" from me. Its terrible. I will not call them again. The other company's tech that came out the next day found 3 leaks and said the unit was sloppily installed and some steps that should have been done were not taken when initially installed.
Description of Work: Brand new A/C unit purchased April 2011 started freezing up the pipes and blowing hot air.

I called Harp Electric to come out and install 2 new light fixtures in my kitchen. When I talked to the girl answering the phone, I asked her how much it would cost for the install of 2 light fixtures - she could NOT tell me over the phone (she said I would have to get the price from the tech once he came out). I again asked her 2 more times what the price would be and she just wouldn't tell me - she just said I would have to find out from the tech. The catch = just to get a service tech out to my house cost $49.00. So........... I was scheduled to have a tech come out between 2:00 - 3:00 p.m. - I get a call at 12:15 that a tech was on his way, well I was out to lunch and I told them, I was scheduled between 2:00 - 3:00 p.m. An hour later they call again and the tech is on his way - I raced home and met him. I showed the tech my simple light fixtures to have installed to get a price, he flipped open a pricing book and pointed right to the price for light fixtures - $136.00 EACH fixture, plus $49.00 to have him show up = $321.00. I thought $321.00 was RIDICULOUS and I told the tech I wouldnt pay that much, he then proceeds to write me up a ticket for $49.00, for 3 minutes of his time (for showing up and flipping to page 2 of his pricing book). Really??? I told him I refused to pay the $49.00, because I originally asked for the price over the phone 3 TIMES when I was scheduling my appt. and she just couldnt give it to me, when it was something they already have set pricing for, like I saw in the tech's pricing book. The tech fought it at first, then told me he'd do me 'a favor' and waive the $49.00 fee. Bottom line, after that fiasco - JUST TO GET A PRICE - I would NEVER use Harp Electric. They're a huge RIPOFF!!
Description of Work: None - after the fiasco I went through just to get a price!!

They tell you the cost before starting the work. There's no additional expenses because of this. They came back to troubleshoot a problem and discovered it had to do with the city power side, not their work. With this knowledge, I was able to have the problem resolved.

They showed up when they were suppose to, but couldn't fix anything that they were called for, but found other things needing immediate attention they said. So I hired them to fix what they said was wrong, and it was to cost $1600. They said they rewired the breaker box, fixed the lines to the meter and took out a little box that went to my ac. I found out a year later, that they did not take it out, and that it is necessary and part of the code to be there. I don't know what else wasn't correct, as I am not an electrician, but I called them back a year after this was done, and they misdiagnosis completely what was wrong with my ac and quoted me over $4500 to fix it, when I called someone else they charged me $60 to fix it.
Description of Work: Called them for some outlets that didn't work and were suppose to be covered by my home owners warranty. They couldn't fix any of them under the warranty, but found some other problems they said needed to be fixed ASAP with the breaker box. They said they rewired the box. and fixed the wires going to my meter and said they took a little breaker box out that went to my ac.

Our a/c had to be replaced and, since our furnace was almost 20 years old, we decided to replace it at the same time. The company came out immediately and gave us a very good bid. As soon as we accepted it, they ordered the units and installed them -- all within a week or two. They responded to all our questions throughout and after the process in a thorough and professional manner. We are very well pleased with their work and with our relationship with the company.

My first interaction with Harp was on 6/28/09. My A/C had stopped blowing cool air. It was very hot at that time that year, and all the other A/C companies I called could not come out to even look at my unit for several days because they were so busy. Harp came out the very next day after I called. It turns out that, being a naive, first-time homeowner, I didn't realize how important it was to keep greenery from growing around your A/C unit, and the lack of air flow burned up the compressor. The cost of replacement was $2k and some change. They ordered the parts immediately, put a rush on the delivery due to the extreme heat, and it was fixed 2 days later. My system is very old (17 years), and I asked them to price a new system. They took measurements of my entire home, evaluated the air return system, recommended I add a second air return for more efficient performance, and quoted the system replacement, including all equipment, supplies, parts, AND ALL LABOR, at $8k, and guaranteed that price barring a MAJOR unforeseen circumstance. Maintenance service for my furnace the following winter was timely, professional, and efficient. Over July 4th weekend 2010, I inadvertently cut the power wire to my A/C unit, thinking it was a vine (I am now obsessive about keeping greenery away from the A/C unit). I called, they came out to evaluate, in the rain, and the electrician came the following day and repaired the wire. Total cost of my snafoo was only $167. That doesn't seem like a bad price for 2 trips out to my house and an electrical repair. Unfortunately, Harp never called to schedule the A/C maintenance during the summer of 2010, and I failed to call also, so I was disappointed about that. Maintenance service for the furnace in winter 2010 was timely, professional, and efficient. In May, 2011, I realized on a Saturday morning that I did not have hot water. I called Harp, and they came out that afternoon. The tech was very diligent in trying to diagnose my problem. He took everything apart in the water heater AND the gas meter to eliminate all possibilities before determining the gas company had turned off the gas at the meter. It turns out that the gas company had done this because they installed some kind of new electronic (wi-fi, whatever) meter reading device. The gas company was supposed to leave a note on the door to this effect, but failed to do so. In spite of the 2 hours the Harp tech was trying to diagnose my problem, and the fact it was a Saturday, I was only charged the $49 trip charge. I hadn't received a call from Harp to do maintenance on my A/C by August 1st 2011, so I called myself, and Harp took care of it literally immediately. Overall, I am very happy with Harp's work and customer service, and I think having the service contract more than pays for itself.
Description of Work: I called Harp on Monday, 8/1/11, to have them come out and service my A/C. Due to the prolonged heatwave, I expected they wouldn't be able to come out until later in the week. I called around noon, the office gal said they would be out sometime that afternoon, and the technician would call 20 minutes ahead to say he was on his way. 15 minutes later the tech called and he was on his way. Harp is prompt, professional, efficient, courteous, and friendly. The techs are always happy to answer all of the questions I have, and I have a lot, being a first-time homeowner. I have had a service contract with Harp since Summer of 2009. It is only $15/mo. The maintenance on my A/C and furnace in spring/summer and fall/winter, respectively, are free of charge. As a service partner, when I call, my name is bumped to the top of the list. As a service partner, if I have a problem on a weekend, the trip charge is only $49 versus the normal $200. As a service partner, I receive a 10% discount on any services beyond maintenance I receive. Their service partner program more than pays for itself, and I feel their customer service is excellent.

Employee came to see my problem, and was very nice, but said I needed a ton of other work done as my house was about to burn down. So, I paid to have it all done by them, then this summer, my a/c went out, and I called them to fix it. This is a 2 yr old unit so I was surprised when it went out. They did come out quickly, but the man kept telling me my compressor was burned out and that it would be $2158. to fix it just for the labor. I told him this was ridiculous since my brother had just replaced one the same size for $300. He kept saying this is what it needed and he would try to find one and put it in that night. He called back and couldn't find one. I meanwhile called someone else to look at it, who was going to come the next morning. First thing the next day, the boss from Harp called me to tell me I got the wrong price quoted and it would be $910, and again I told him I knew it didn't cost that much and why. I had called other companies and they all quoted between $300-500 to replace it with it being under warranty. He said he would have to find one first and would call me back. Meanwhile, the second man I called cam, and looked at it and said it wasn't the compressor, it was burned out fuses and the capacitor. He had it fixed in 10 min and wouldn't even charge me a service fee as he said he wasn't here that long. Harp spent longer trying to rip me off then it took to fix the whole thing, and they charged me $181 for a trip fee and diagnosis, which they got wrong. They did finally agree not to charge me this amount, but not until after I had to worry all night about how I was going to pay for this. I was a good customer of theirs, although I do know they overcharged me 3 times the correct amount on one other thing they did, but I will never call them again.

It works just fine. They were always on time and they did a good job. They were quite satisfactory. We didn't have to pay for the service as it was all included within the contract for the kitchen.
Description of Work: We used Harp Electric for kitchen renovation. They had to make a special box so that my fin hood would connect with the duct work that would take the air all the way up to the roof. The fin hood that I bought didn't come where it could be fixed very easily as it was installed. So they had to cut a box specially made that would sit over it that would make it all work.

We hired another man who came out and said that it needed a new part, but not because it was out of freon or was run without freon. He also said if we had, which we didnt, run the unit without freon then the unit would NOT have locked up but would just not have cooled. He then called the air conditioner company that made the air conditioning unit and they covered the part (which was under warranty)! He then took apart the air conditioner and repllaced the part and only charged us $220. He is the owner of the company and also the operator. Harp was pathetic and then told us we owed them $60 for a service call. Just goes to show that these huge companies are too big -stick with a well know owner operated company!
Description of Work: Harp was contracted by American Home Shield to fix our 2 year old air conditioning unit. They came out and said it was out of freon. They then proceeded to fill it full of freon. The unit failed to work after 3 days. It had locked up. Harp came back and said that it failed because we had run it without freon.

Called Harp Electric on Tuesday after the major ice storm. Representative came out the same day and priced us. Didn't have time to seek competitive bidding as power was out and line was hot in the backyard. Charged over twice what the going rate was we found out. Brad, our rep, was very courteous and generous, even helping remove a limb that had fallen on the hot line. If the pricing was $1000 less, I would have given them an A across the board, but we got gouged and I can't recommend this company to anyone else.
