When we bought the house in 2001 the HVAC was 4 years old and it never cooled well. For example if it was above 100 degrees outside the AC would run all the time and it wouldn't cool below 80-85 degrees in some rooms. As the years went by it got worse until finally this spring it was struggling to keep up even when it was only 80 degrees outside. I had had Freon added about 5 years ago by another company so I thought maybe it was low again, so I had the other company come out and check it last week. Turns out the Freon level was fine and they couldn't find anything wrong with it. However, it was only cooling the air 8-9 degrees differential between the inlet and the outlet. The only thing the technician from the other company could think to do was that possibly the Freon was contaminated, and to replace all the Freon which would cost about $1000. He also gave me a quote for a new system, including adding an extra unit since our house is 2900 SF and the existing 5 ton unit he said wasn't big enough. Altogether that was going to cost more than $20,000! So I got on Angies List. I was looking for a company who handled the brand I like (American Standard) but who might not have so much overhead and have a better price. I found Smith Brothers and gave them a call on Friday May 29. Duane answered the phone and I told him what was going on with my old system. He came out the same day and hadn't been here 5 minutes until he told me what was wrong with the old original system. It only had 2 - 14" x 24" returns and he said for 5 ton units that was too much restriction and it winds up damaging the compressor over time because not enough air is getting pulled across the cooling coils. This causes the Freon to not be completely vaporized when it hits the compressor, and when it's still a liquid it can damage the compressor. He said they always use 4 returns for this size system. So I got a quote from him including adding the 2 returns. I went with a 2 stage variable speed furnace and altogether the system was $7945. I accepted his quote and they installed the system the following Monday June 8. I couldn't be happier with everything they did and they saved me a lot of money. And with the extra returns the new system should last a long time. I also asked Duane about installing a 95% furnace but he didn't recommend them and explained the reasons why, primarily the high probability of freezing since our furnace is in the attic. It's really great to work with such knowledgeable people who do great work at a fair price. You won't go wrong with Smith Brothers.

Called Smith Brothers who came to my house same day. Duane the owner arrived and greeted me and took at look at the home and existing system and quoted me on a high quality system that was sized perfectly for my house. I had several other companies come and submit quotes for the job and Smith Brothers offered a great price with a top tier brand and they did not try to up sell me. The work was performed promptly and professionally and the installation tech was very friendly and professional. Overall it was a great experience and would highly recommend the good guys at Smith Brothers.

I was delighted to have them install this unit for my renters just before a terrible cold front moved in. It was comforting to know they would be warmer.

THEY ARE PROFESSIONAL!!!!! Did a great job, left NO MESS! Gave me three (3) options on different models and thoroughly explained the pros/cons of each one. Showed me how to extend my warranty from five(5) years to ten(10) years. Will use always use them!!!

Everything was great with Smith Brothers. The workers arrived on time and cleaned up after themselves when they were finished. They even took all the boxes and packaging with them so that we wouldn't have to dispose of it.
