Description of Work: I had 2 projects that they worked on for me. The 1st project was to texture and paint the ceiling of my living room and hallway. P.J. scheduled the dates and times to do this and was prompt, efficient and cleaned up as she went along. | |The 2nd project was to paint and repair the exterior wood siding of my house. This took a little longer to finish because of the cold weather that came through in the middle of the project. As soon as it was warm enough to get back out they finished as quickly as they could. They also took steps to help save me money on the repairs and everything looks very good.

Description of Work: They repaired the roof overhang underside, painted the exterior of the house and storage building, including the iron gates (2). Two people worked 4 days to complete the work and were professional in their work and conduct. The reliability and neatness of their work is worth the cost of the work. I consider the work done a good value for the cost.

Description of Work: Painted the whole exterior of the house. Took 2 days which is what we expected. There was an overcharge for using the wrong paint on the second day but it was taken off later. They found items that needed to be corrected in the house as they went along. Very through in their work. I would recommend them again.

Did not use.
Description of Work: After several dropped calls and phone tag, I was never able to pin down an actual price for the work I needed, which was repairing and painting a gable on a bungalow. They would give me a price, then when I asked if a particular part of the work would be included, they would have to get back to me. When they did get back to me, the cost was invariably more. I never did feel comfortable with what I was going to get for the money.

Description of Work: The company continually says every time you come in contact with them that they will give you a quality paint job, they did but it’s the harassment and teeth pulling you go through in order to get that quality job; constant babysitting. At times the painters seemed to do more talking than working. With any job you always need to be available to go over changes or make sure corners and/or a spot isn’t overlooked; it’s best to be home during the entire project. I felt I was outside more than inside and it was an inconvenience as I was taking care of my kids. I think on some days the painters got more attention than my kids making it stressful for me and unfair to my kids. Instead of just going through what needs to be painted when and where with the head painter, make sure the head painter fully explains to the 2nd painter and any other painters that show up what needs to be done. I constantly was reviewing what needed to be done as they seemed to only retain a portion of what I said. But all in all, I got what I requested done it just took awhile to get it right. They did draw to my attention rotting wood and made it my decision on whether to replace or not, which was the right move, but the cost to replace was an additional cost I wasn’t prepared to pay. It would have been nice at the estimate with Lynn Brueggmann, Residential Sales Manager, to give me notice this needed to be included instead of getting ¾ though the project. Lynn is the one that bids the jobs but shows up 30-mins early when you expect him at a certain time which is fine but he just left the bid on the door and was going to drive away as he had another call. So thankful I stopped him cause there were areas he would of missed or not understood therefore having him come back out to the property instead of just remaining there when the customer is home. Lynn comes off nice at first and will tell you if you have a problem to call him. He wants to know about any problems/situations so you think to yourself he’s your go to guy, but if you have anything else that needs addressed later in your project don’t bank on him being there he won’t. He will tell you he wants to hear them, but instead pushes you off to someone else because he has other customers to meet and bid on and doesn't have time for you. Make sure you take pictures of your property (as I did) before any work is performed. With this company, Josh Murdock (Head of Finance, HR and various other positions) will not pay for any damage but instead put the blame back on you to pay for what was ruined as a result of carelessness. He specifically told me “it’s my problem not theirs”. I recently had a new roof put on and asked the painters to be very careful. Most of the time they were but there were a few instances where I questioned how work was performed but they assured me that they do it this way all the time and it’ll be fine. With that sick feeling of uncertainty damage was caused to the roof itself, and again I took before and after pictures so I had something to show for it. After explaining this to Josh Murdock, he again told me “you can have your roofer come out but we are not paying for anything”. One instance that was absolutely inappropriate was when I called Josh Murdock himself and explained to him that his painters need to stop talking about their private lives, company details and money. Josh said he would handle it but little did I know that his handling of it was pulling the workers off the job early one afternoon instead of finishing the project and then talking to them. One painter expressed to me after the job was in the final walk through stages that it was inappropriate because he wanted to finish the job and this put a wrench into his day therefore it put the paint job behind a day. Keep in mind, all I did was express my concerns to Josh Murdock, he in turn decided it was best to stop the job, talk to them and then have them back the next day. The painters were nice up to the talk but the following day work was quite, unpleasant and military instead of easy going. In closing, Josh Murdock demands and makes threats to get the final payment. Pay close attention to the final invoice as it doesn’t state the 1/3 down you paid upfront so you could actually pay more out of pocket. Just be careful! Josh doesn’t give you any leeway if the work performed is from a claim even though you explained the situation to Lynn Brueggmann and Debbie of the office staff, its a claim due to a storm, Josh still demands payment even if you can't pay until your insurance company gives the final ok (certificate of completion). You have every intention to pay for the job they did it’s just how payment is paid, when so you, the homeowner don't get in trouble with your insurance company and they fail to pay you the final check your entitled too. Every company if they do quality work deserves payment but it’s the way they get paid that needs to be followed for rules are put into place for a reason. Josh explained in a very demanding and demeaning tone that if they don't get it within 30-days they will take me to court to collect even though you have no control over when the bank cuts the last check. Just be careful!

Response from Ray the Painter
If you read our other reviews you will find that this is an isolated incident and that most of our customers are satisfied, happy, and return to us to complete additional projects. It is the position of Ray the Painter that this customer's poor experience is over-exagerated. This customer claims that "Painters seemed to do more talking than working", however, it is the opinion of our team members that this customer would not let them do their jobs. The team members complained that this customer was harassing them with harsh language and probing them about their personal lives. A typical customer does not watch over our field team. They work best when they are free from distraction. What this customer did not explain is that she had a roofing contractor at her home prior to our arrival. This customer claims that Ray the Painter "tromped" on her grass causing the damage, however, this damage couldn't have been caused by 3 painters. Ray the Painter has a clear contract that requires payment to be made upon completion of the project. Ray the Painter does not have the ability nor the desire to finance projects. It is the customer's responsibility to make funds available to our company when services are rendered. That part of the contract is clear. In this instance we offered this customer an unprecedented 30-day extension because we value her business.
