Description of Work: Contacted about air conditioning inspection and maintenance offer but they offer a HVAC service contract that will save us a lot of money so we are very happy about that. They cleaned air conditioner units, did maintenance and changed air filters. The serviceman was very thorough and professional. He was careful to protect the home interior as he replaced some hard to reach filters. We're very happy with the service provided.

Description of Work: We used Air Assurance specifically because of their high ratings on Angies List. We bought the $74 service call through the Angies List website. Well... our first rude awakening was that the $74 includes ONLY the guy showing up at your door and knocking. Everything beyond that costs extra. | |Our unit was frozen up so after it thawed, he checked the pressure and added 1.5 pounds of refrigerant. He never used the sniffer to check for leaks and instead told my wife he could put some dye into the system and check for leaks at $100 extra cost. I've never had an AC guy who didn't have the initiative or the good business practice to use a sniffer to check for easy leaks - - especially after the system was confirmed to be low on refrigerant. | |When I got home and my wife told me she'd been charged $245 PLUS the $74 Angies List deal we bought ($319 total), to add 1.5 pounds of refrigerant and NOT check for leaks, I was absolutely livid. The next day, I got on their website and submitted a request - a simple question: What is your hourly rate for service? I did get a prompt call back from a guy who explained that Air Assurance charges for specific services and doesn't have an hourly rate. For the life of me I couldn't get him to just transparently answer a simple question: What is your hourly billing rate? | |I quickly told him I was an unhappy customer and explained the situation. He insisted they always quote for service ahead of time and don't do any work unless the customer agrees with the quote. He said, "Did your wife agree to those charges?" I about came unglued and told him I didn't appreciate him basically blaming my wife (who is not a knowledgeable customer) for their overcharge. | |Finally he pulled up my account and found the original $74 we'd paid directly to Angies List had not been credited to our charge. Even if that was an honest mistake, which I'm willing to believe, I don't believe they'd even have caught it without my follow-up. | |Eventually I was transferred to someone else in operations... She again insisted they do no work without a specific quote to the customer which is approved. (Later I asked my wife about this, and she was firm that AIR ASSURANCE NEVER QUOTED ANY FEE BEFORE THE WORK WAS DONE.) I asked, "Why would your guy not have used a sniffer to check for leaks?" She said "each of our guys has their own approach to service work." Amazing - what that means to me is, their guys can do what they want and Air Assurance doesn't control or stand behind them? They apparently have no standards or policy that their service guys must follow to ensure quality service??? | |I asked her, "If I was there and your guy had quoted $250 and I'd told him I wasn't going to pay that, would he have negotiated with me?" She said, "Not really, but they can offer a $20 internet coupon discount." I told her I wanted the $20 discount in addition to the $74 we'd been overcharged; in fairness, she did agree to that and we got a credit of $94. I still believe $225 net (after all the aggravation ) for 1.5 pounds of refrigerant and no leak test is a complete ripoff. | |I am still flabbergasted by Air Assurance and heck no, I will never use them again. Let me recap: | |A. The $74 Angies List deal includes only a guy knocking on your door. NO actual service time is included. (There was another provider with a similar service call which clearly included up to 1 pound of refrigerant. I wished I'd called them instead. Don't get suckered into this "deal" from Air Assurance.) |B. After determining the unit was 1.5 pounds low on refrigerant, the guy DID NOT use a sniffer to check for obvious leaks, instead only proposing a more expensive method to check. |C. Despite the claims of both people I spoke with, the guy DID NOT quote in advance how much he was going to charge for adding refrigerant. |D. In the end we double-paid the $74 "deal" price, and only got a refund of the duplicate because I was astonished at the total bill. (If I hadn't called, I absolutely do not believe we'd ever have received a refund of their double service charge.) |E. When I called to complain, I really felt I got a whole lot of runaround for what was an exorbitant charge - $225 just to install 1.5 pounds of refrigerant and not sniff-check for leaks. | |I am one mighty unsatisfied Air Assurance customer and will never call them again.

[Member's name removed] I apologize for your experience and clearly there was some miscommunication along the way and I again apologize. If you still feel that the $225 was excessive for all that was performed as I will explain below, I will be happy to speak with you personally and refund your money. I do agree that the technician was not aware of the angies list purchase and this should have been credited. This was a simple mistake potentially in the time frame of which you purchased it from angies list online and when that was communicated to us by them vs the time we were able to get there. I'm not sure what happened, but as you stated, once aware, we always would gladly honor that discount and apparently did. The $74 service call fee is what you have explained. Our regular service fee is $99 and that is the diagnostic or trip charge. This includes the time it takes to get to the house, and the time it takes to figure out the main problem. This is a standard among companies in our area, any work after that is additional. The angies list deal communicates this, and our dispatchers should have made you aware of this as well. Our GPS shows our technician was there for 2.08 hours and his ticket states that he also cleaned the condensing unit while waiting on the coil to defrost. You see, it's impossible to properly charge a unit if it is not working properly to begin with and we see many companies that just add Freon to get it working, but without cleaning it, you may be paying for Freon you don't need, or once it's cleaned later, you're overcharged, causing other problems within the compressor, efficiency of the system, or performance. the ticket also states that we added 2lbs of refrigerant to the system. It also states that the leak search was refused at that time. This is a separate charge because there is more time involved in doing so by taking off (sometimes hard to reach)covers, searching multiple areas inside and out to ensure we have located the exact leak and determine if it is fixable or not. Sometimes this is not necessary when the leak is minimal as it may have been not charged properly to begin with. Again, I apologize if this was not communicated more properly. We pride ourselves on the level of professionalism, service, and honesty our techs perform by doing it the right way. I apologize we were not able to convince you of that. We pride ourselves in doing things the right way for maximum efficiency, reliability, and capacity and in coil replacement, that is extremely important because it effects other parts of your system including your compressor. Unfortunately, by doing it this way, costs are generally more by providing these things. Description of Work: They repaired a switch(?) where wires had burned in two. There work was good,but I felt that they were exhorbitantly high. They replaced a small part on each of my units and charged me $560. Not a whole lot of time was involved. They gave me a list of things that were working but could go bad "any time" which would cost me another $1000 They then tried to sell me a service policy. The serviceman was polite, neat, and efficient......just grossly overpriced!

I apologize you didn't find value in the service we provided in September of 2014. I understand you may have felt the price was more than you expected. Our GPS shows our technician was on site for 3.17 hours while he thoroughly cleaned both ac units, fixed the actual reason on one unit that was completely out and diagnosed other issues on both units that might save you from having the same problems again, including replacing two of the most Important motor starting devices that were burnt out or under spec. Our prices are very competitive and based on national labor averages so that we can quote you pricing upfront and ensure we don't go above that if the technician is slower or other things that other companies may use to drive the labor up. We also give you a lifetime repair warranty on those parts while you're on our service agreement. I hope we get the opportunity to serve you again in the future

Description of Work: We initially used this provider when we built our new house to put a dedicated heat pump into my library. Was SO glad I did. They made it pretty integrated with the vents I had and regardless of how hot or cold my wife has the rest of the house, I'm just fine and dandy in my library. More recently, we thought of adding a similar small heat pump to our barn's office...they came out and looked at our space and said we really didn't need that...we could buy a small window heat pump from Lowe's that would suffice. He even sent us the exact model number...no charge for the visit. We got that heat pump and it has worked great.
