It went pretty well. I had two workers come out to complete a month's job. They have quality windows and good prices. I would tell friends and family to expect good work, but do not expect quality communication.

Rep for Thermal Windows came out promptly to our older home in Choctaw to give us an estimate for replacing eight 40 year old windows. This company gave us a well written estimate and very informative brochure of their product line. After getting estimates from two other well-known companies we decided that Thermal Windows was the company we wanted to do business with. Their windows are made in Oklahoma and they required only a small deposit before the windows were to be installed. It was also reassuring that Thermal Windows had a very good recommendation from Angies List. The windows were ready for installation before they had been estimated to be. The installers were prompt, worked quickly and cleaned up after themselves. The windows looked very nice after being replaced. We can definitely notice reduced noise from outside and better indoor temperature stability. They are easy to open and close and an added benefit is that the bottom section tilts in to clean the outside of the windows. One of the windows had an interior grid that had a cosmetic flaw but the company came out and fixed it and now it looks perfect. Only glitch was the time it took to get the grid replaced in the one window and the repeated communications that took place just to submit information about the problem with the window grid.

The windows have not yet been installed. They are made in Oklahoma. It takes several weeks for them to get installed but so far i have been very pleasant with them. I looked at a couple of different places on the internet and i liked the fact that they are in Oklahoma. They were at the home garden show and i liked the windows. I talked to the girl there and she was very helpful and i made an appointment with her. She was there and on time and helped me with chosing the window. They came out and did a rough measurement and another person came and did a factory measurement. They keep all the measurements forever. After the window is installed, another person comes out and does a final inspection then you can give a final payment. They are very thorough.

They were fast, polite, and efficient. They cleaned up every stitch of their mess and even cleaned my windows inside and out. They also gave me a can of spray they recommended to use on the windows. Not only am I pleased with the product and the noise reduction they offer, but I have also seen significant reduction in my utility bills. They did a fabulous job AND the windows are made here in Oklahoma!

The salesman, Jason Dickson, was very pleasant to work with; however, after the installation supervisor came to our home to confirm measurements, Jason called with the news that they would not install our windows since they were concerned about access over our fireplace. We were also told that IF they did install, it would be at least another $1,000 to cover the cost of a cherry-picker and scaffolding. Now, I understand their clause on the contract "This contract is contingent upon inspection and approval by Thermal Windows, Inc. installation supervisor and the General Manager. If additional charges are required, the customer reserves the right to cancel the order within 3 days of notification"; however, charging about 1/5th of the contract to cover these expenses is rather steep and certainly a deterrent to move the contract forward. The reason that I write this review goes further than access or additional costs, but that Jason told us if we paid the additional costs, they would NOT honor the lifetime warranty (non-pro-rated, included labor, and was transferable) since it would require a cherry-picker each time they did warranty work. He then told us that we could still purchase the windows directly from Thermal if we could find a contractor to take the liability for the installation AND offer a 10-year warranty. Shady business practice! Needless to say, we cancelled our contract.
Description of Work: We entered into contract with Thermal to install the 2nd story windows in our living room and the window in our attic above the garage.

Response from Thermal Windows Inc
It is always disappointing when we receive bad reviews. However, I believe this one requires some explanation. When our salesperson, Jason Dickinson, met with the customer to sign the contract, he had some apprehension in regards to our ability to perform the work. He suggested that our Installation Manager inspect the job before the contract was finalized, but the customer insisted. She wanted to get things going. When our Installation Manager visited the home to take technical measurements, he determined that our company was not properly equipped, and the job presented too much danger. The windows in question are very large and heavy, and they are located such that they are difficult, if not impossible, to access without extra equipment. To make matters worse, landscape, walkways and the slope of the yard on the exterior would make it difficult to perform the work without damaging the property. As a company that is continually dependent on generating new business, we never enjoy turning down work. However, we will always consider potential damage to property, danger to our installers, the long-term liability involved in accepting difficult jobs and, of course, our ability to complete the work in a manner that will be acceptable to our customer. We include a contingency clause in our contract because we understand that a salesperson may not be able to sufficiently determine all of the potential difficulty and risk involved with each job. The clause is intended to protect both the customer and Thermal Windows, Inc.. In this case, it was determined that the risk and liability were too great. Our salesperson called the customer to inform them of our decision to decline the job and refund their deposit. The customer pressed and asked what would be required for us to be able to perform the job. Jason explained the need for extra equipment and the costs involved, the difficulties in accessing the windows, the potential danger to our installers, our long-term warranty concerns and the uncertainty that we would be able to accomplish the work in a satisfactory manner. However, it should be noted, there was never implied a suggestion that we would reconsider for more money. Also, the change in the warranty mentioned would be due to an outside contractor performing the work. Thermal Windows, Inc. offers a lifetime warranty only on jobs that we install. Shady business practices have nothing to do with it. At Thermal Windows, Inc., we believe that a job worth doing is a job worth doing right. For that reason, we are open and honest about our capabilities. We would rather walk away from a job than to do it poorly or to expose our installers to undue risk.

Thermal Windows were extremely easy to work with. We had someone come and measure our windows, give us an estimate, and then come back and install our windows. They will also do a lead paint test for you if you choose them and provide you information regarding lead base paint which I found very beneficial if we ever decide to sell our home we have proof that our house does not contain lead based paint. They sales staff and their contractors were very easy to get ahold of and were extremely professional. Just a note to those who care, the person installing your windows is not an employee of the company, but a contractor that the company pays. We had a really great contractor, and therefore, it did not concern me. I just thought that information may be useful for those who care. Then windows look great and we haven't seen any problems with them yet. If we do, I'll make sure to update this post.

Thank you, [removed member name], for the wonderful review! Regarding the comment about contractors, we find that most of the best installers in our industry are, in fact, independent contractors. They make more money working contract, as opposed to hourly, so those who wish to make a good living installing windows tend to gravitate that way. Our installers are all factory-certified, and they work almost exclusively for Thermal Windows, Inc. We have very low turn-over, so we seldom have to add new crews. Most of our contract installers have been with us for a long time. We know them well. We greatly appreciate their fine work, and we endeavor to treat them with the same care and concern as our own employees. The biggest knock against contract installers is that some companies expect the customer to chase down the contractor if there is a problem. At Thermal Windows, you deal exclusively with us throughout the entire process. If there's an issue during the installation, you call us. If a service issue arises, we have our own in-house service department which handles all such issues. We believe this approach provides the best of both installation and service. It's an important part of the reason we've made so many customers, like [removed member name], happy with their decision to choose Thermal Windows, Inc. Thanks to all of our great reviewers! Could not have been any better. We are totally satisfied with the whole process and am glad we chose Thermal Windows.
Description of Work: We had 11 windows, including 2 quarter rounds installed. Our first contact was with Linda, the sales lady. She was knowledgeable as she explained what windows were available. Low key, no hard salesmanship applied which I really appreciated as the prior outfit took nearly 3 hours to demonstrate and twist arms. Linda set a date for installation (I forget about 6-8 weeks. When notified the windows were ready and a crew would be on site at 8:30 AM they were. Jason, Mike, and Austin went right to work and the installation went quick and clean just a little over 3 hours.

In December, after spending weeks plagued by drafts and freezing temperatures, we researched the heck out of new windows on Angie's List and decided to have Thermal Windows come out and give us an estimate. Dee was out within a week despite the snow and nasty weather. She was very patient with all our questions. We were quite pleased with the lower than expected cost of new windows and decided to place our order for 9 windows for the entire house rather than just the worst windows. We were also pleased to find the windows were made to order here in Oklahoma. Shortly after our order John came out to measure each and every window inside and out, followed by a 6-8 week turn around time to manufacture the windows. The scheduler called us in February. We were offered a variety of installation dates including Saturday and Sunday. Installation couldn't have gone better. When the installers arrived our yard was so muddy from more rounds of ice and snow! (Can you believe the winter we've had!)? The installers laid tarps both inside and outside and not a bit of mud found its way into the house. They worked quickly and professionally. When they left you could not even tell they had been here except for the sparkling new windows. Thermal called us a couple of days later to check-in with us and someone was here the very next day to adjust the one window that was opening properly.

When I purchased the windows, I was told installation would take one day, but when the windows came in and they called to schedule, I was told 2 days, so I had to change my work schedule. They arrived late both days and I was not impressed with the cleanup. They only brought one drop cloth to use.

[member name removed], I am very sorry that your experience with our company was less than expected. Typically, because of difficulties we sometimes encounter when we get into a job, and because we want our installers to be thorough in their installation, we generally don't plan for crews to install more than 6-8 windows a day. Doors can often take substantially longer than a window, so it is unfortunate if any of our representatives led you to believe the job would be completed in a day. If the degree of difficulty was low, a single day may have been reasonable, but I would have preferred more clarification up front. In regards to the drop cloths and the cleanup, these are issues that we take very seriously, as well. It is rare that we get such complaints, but occasionally we a crew will fail to meet the expected standard. I have spoken with our sales team, our Installation Manager, and the crew involved. I would have preferred that you were thrilled by the entire process, and again, I apologize that you were not. I do appreciate your input. Without it, we would not know where improvements were needed. I sincerely hope you give us further opportunity to serve your window and door needs. I believe you will see that we can do much better. Thank you for your business. John Batts Thermal Windows, Inc. General Manager -- OKC

The sales staff was very professional and did not yield to high pressure techniques to sell their products and services. They do not keep product warehoused, so after the sale it took more than 8 weeks to get the new window and get it installed. No doubt a cost saving measure for the business, but a big inconvience for the customers. While the product was high grade, excellent design, quality of materials and will provide many years of reliable services, I give them a B, I would give an A if the price were a bit lower. I was not happy with the fact that in order to fix a window that had a $2.00 plastic latch broken on it, required buying a whole new window. I checked around at several places trying to find a replacement latch for a window that opens into the house for cleaning purposes, but could not find a latch or a company that would replace this inexpensive component. Nothing against this specific company for not providing such a service when all of them do the same thing, still it feels like a gimmick they all use to sell windows rather than repairing a window that still has many years of service left in it. When the window was installed, the installer did not inform me about the magnet from the previous window, used with the security system to detect an open window, they simply left the wires hanging to the side rather than reconnecting them or drilling a new hole that would work with thier window. Given the number of home that use security systems, I expected the ability to reconnect the wires so the security system would work with the new window. For requiring a new window rather than the ability to fix an inexpensive component on an existing window and for not reconnecting wiring for the security system during installation I?m giving them a D on quality of service.

Response from Thermal Windows Inc
I regret this member was not pleased with his purchase from our company. Thermal Windows, Inc. strives to maintain an excellent record in quality, professionalism and after the job service. On this note, I'd like to address a few of the concerns listed here. Thermal Windows, Inc. is a regional manufacturer. The majority of the windows we manufacture are for large commercial projects and for residential replacement. Both of these applications require that windows are built to specification, per the particular job. In the case of residential replacement windows, a standard size will not typically fit because the window must be made to work around existing brick and interior / exterior trim. For this reason, replacement windows are custom-sized to insure the best fit for the existing opening. Our decision to not warehouse windows is not based on cost savings. It is based on the realities of the replacement industry and our desire to provide the best product for the application. In regards to not fixing his existing window, we are not a window repair company. Thermal Windows, Inc. manufactures and installs new windows. As the customer stated, our salesperson did not use high-pressure tactics. It must be assumed, then, that it was his decision to replace rather than repair the broken window was not made under coercion. He was in no way prevented from further seeking a repair option. A simple Google search for "window tilt latch" will reveal hundreds of different latch options. This is just one of many typical window components. It would be unrealistic to expect that a company, which is not in the business of repairing windows, would warehouse and inventory parts to repair windows which it does not manufacture or sell. There was no "gimmick" employed on our part. Finally, in regards to the wiring issue, this is the first we've been made aware of it. If the customer is still in need of a solution, I encourage him to call our office. We will be happy to address his problem. Regards, John Batts Thermal Windows, Inc. General Manager -- OKC

The estimator was on time, friendly, and professional. She was able to do her work reasonably quickly, and provided us with a written estimate when she was through. Based on the other three estimates that we had, the Thermal Window price was reasonable, though not the lowest. We were a little turned off when the estimator was extreamly critical of vinyl windows. We felt as though she was being overly critical of a material that other companies were willing to give lifetime guarantees on, probably in order to put her metal windows in a good light. We ended up using Pella because of price, the fact that it is a more well known brand, and we really appreciated their estimator.

Response from Thermal Windows Inc
I'm sorry to hear that our salesperson came across as overly critical towards vinyl windows. We manufacture a fine vinyl window product, in addition to our commercially-rated Thermal Barrier Aluminum products. There are pros and cons for either, and I encourage our salespeople to help customers determine which product is best suited for their individual needs. Vinyl windows offer some advantage in regards to energy-efficiency, and their lighter weight make them easier to operate. These two factors, alone, may be enough to sway some consumers towards vinyl. In terms of long-term wear, however, thermally-broken aluminum is superior. Vinyl windows, as with any plastic product, are far more susceptible to damage from exposure to the heat and UV rays from the sun. As with some of our competitors, we also offer lifetime warranties on our vinyl windows. We have an excellent customer service record, and we stand behind the quality of our products. It is important, though (and we are very honest with our customers on this issue), to understand that warranties primarily protect consumers from problems caused by defects in manufacturing. One would be dishonest to suggest that a lifetime warranty on vinyl window products implies the products will last indefinitely. We appreciate this consumers interest in our company, and we encourage others to view the differences for themselves. Sincerely, John Batts Thermal Windows, Inc. General Manager -- OKC

Several of the double pane windows in our 20 year old house had leaking seals. We got price quotes from 3 companies and decided to go with Thermal Windows. They had great reviews here on Angies List, they are made here in OK, they had a great warrantee, the construction appeared to be superior, and THEY ARE MADE IN OKLA!!! They came out, took a final measurement, we made an initial payment and in a few weeks our new windows were ready. Because we had so many windows and some of them are quite large the installation took 2 days. They removed each old window and installed the new one...finishing each before moving on to the next one. We had 2 minor problems: one window screen wouldn't fit - they brought out a new one the same afternoon. One of the windows had a slight gap in the caulking that we noticed the next day. They came out the same day and re-caulked that window frame.

It went quickly with no problems. The gentlemen doing the installing didn't stop till the job was complete and we interrupted them often with offers of cold drinks, which they did not stop to drink. So we pulled up our lounge chairs and watched the professionals do their job. They did make it look easy, but we installed the windows in back at a later date and really appreciated how easy they had made it look. These windows have made a big difference in our heating and air. Our building is still not air tight but know when that gets finished we will not be worrying about any drafts. Really good windows. We recommend this company to everyone. Like the fact that the windows are made in OK.

For all that I got, I feel it was a very good deal. I truly think their aluminum windows are way better than the typical vinyl window. I think the windows are top quality, but the woodwork in my case could have been better. ***the negative*** They used real cheap knotty wood and most joints were not flush or perfect, but I know they guys tried their best. If I had it to do over, I would leave the interior trim/casing to a professional carpenter. Another gripe is they really tore up the wall tile in my bathroom and left a huge gap between the tile and the casing. I had made the mistake of saying at some point I was going to remodel so an older gentleman went a little crazy with the circular saw. Entire house ended up pretty dusty and I had a LOT of cleanup to do afterwards, but I suppose that is to be expected. I would definitely use them again, just not for building the entire casing like they had to in my situation, which was a little unique because of my wonky commercial-like metal casings.
Description of Work: tore out old windows down to the rough opening (I had awful metal casings that transferred cold like crazy in winter), built new casings with flashing on the outside and wood trim on the inside (to be painted), replaced 11 windows (most of them large)

I was very impressed with the quality and the looks of the windows. They are very durable windows as my house was damaged in the May 20th tornado. The windows held up extremely well. A few of them were broken only from a tree limb hitting them. I plan on using them again to replace the ones that are damaged.
Description of Work: All the windows of my home were replaced.
