Description of Work: When picking painting companies, I mentally noted that the Westlake franchise was a year and a half old. Furthermore, their largest project rated on Angies' List had been $6000 when our quoted job was for $20,000. | | The advantage in using a new franchise was a lower price and a quicker start of the job. | |The end product was an A minus or B plus paint job of both the exterior and interior. | |Nonetheless, the worst problem with new crews didn't occur to us-- they could mistakenly hire guys who could paint well but who had criminal records. Worse yet, they sent their newest hires out without their most experienced supervisors. | |Compounding this new hires without background check problem was we explicitly told management we wanted focus on the bathrooms because they were 1.) easiest for us to clear out, 2.) four family members were moving to new homes within a week and thus their rooms would be free of furnishing soon, 3.) the bathrooms were key for helping the two remaining occupants to sell the house. | | So instead of doing the complete bathrooms first, what happened? The two crooks spent the first two days doing the ceilings in every room in the house except the bathrooms with little supervision. Gone went $20,000 worth of stuff to local and distant pawn shops. | |Adding insult was that $3000 of our savings in quoted price went out the window when they added a hazmat fee for "lead paint." We informed them from the start that our siding is made of asbestos, and the house was a 140 years old, so shouldn't that hazmat feature have been included in the quoted price? And of course it took three times of coaxing to get the lead paint chips cleaned up.yes, we could have gone to another painter, but that would have added 5 to 10 weeks of wait... | |In the end, most everyone involved in the project was friendly, tried to please, and left a good looking house that should sell. But, a new franchise will make mistakes, and in our case they were doozies. |

Description of Work: The estimator came out and provided a very fair estimate and was quite professional. I failed to ask him who would be doing the painting. He sent out a very unprofessional crew who took multiple smoke breaks in my garage, used my bathrooms, painted poorly, behaved unprofessionally, and took a day longer to perform the job than necessary due to all of their breaks. Another painter had to return a few days later to correct the mistakes of the first crew. This was a very bad experience.

Description of Work: It was a mess from the start between the rep not hearing a word I said regarding what I wanted done, and my not ever having used a painting company before. I foolishly trusted the work would be done to my verbal specifications and, unfortunately, did not review the contract properly. It seemed that almost everything I wanted done was met with a "that's not in the contract" What followed was a mix of Sloppy and non-sloppy work, depending on who in the group was doing it (e.g. corner not sanded because the contractor "did not have a small enough sander so he just left it undone); spray painted patio ceiling when I said NO SPRAY PAINTING and ended up with spray paint on my flowers, vegetation, herb garden, hummingbird feeder. Trampled 3 hostas into the ground, slopped so much paint on my windows they were painted shut; pried open with effort and redone. At one point, I got yelled at when I said I thought the work looked sloppy. The wrong product was used on the cedar siding on the front of my house, however, this was not the painters' fault, but that of Certa Pro's front man who declined to take the photo I had of what I wanted, saying he knew exactly what was needed, As I thought I was dealing with professionals who had more knowledge of product than I did, I went with his choice - which was nothing like what I wanted and didn't allow the finish I wanted. To be fair, the owner did say they would re-do the front of my house, however, by this time I was so afraid they would only make it worse, I declined. I also called the owner about a board over my garage that had not been coated (after pointing it out several times before the crew left), and that a piece on my overhang had already started to crack and peel, as well as paint drips that I missed and my friends discovered as they looked my house over. I was told the contractor would contact me that week and fix things. After not hearing from the contractor, we ended up completing the work ourselves the following week. Due to the stress and confusion of constantly going back and forth to try to get some of what I had originally asked for done, I only rated the "overall" and "punctuality" parts above (punctuality was good after the initial no show). As far as the price is concerned, I'm not really sure how to rate it - the job was done over a period of several days, however, it was not what I had specified.
