I called Walls Carroll Electric to see about replacing a vapor light at my parent's farm. They asked questions about what we had, gave me a date and time, took my mother's phone number and mine, and said that they would call both of us before coming out. They did! They evaluated the 20-foot pole that the vapor light was mounted to, determined that it was too unsafe (we had been told this before so were not surprised), and suggested mounting the light on the barn. He was extremely kind to my 84-year old mother, explained everything, asked her questions regarding what she wanted, and then did it. The light works great and it is a great relief to me to not only know there is ample light on their property, but to know that my mother now has an electrician she can call, whom she trusts. The price was very reasonable. I would recommend them.
Description of Work: Walls Carroll Electric replaced a vapor light at my parent's farm. They evaluated the existing light and the pole it was on, and installed a new fixture.

They had to go all the way from the circuit breaker all through the basement. It was kind of expensive. I like their honesty. They are very open to listening to me. I don't feel like they ever talk down to me, or try to sell me anything. They try and get as much work done as possible in the time that they are here. After the work gets done if there is anything left to be done they are more than willing to do it.

Walls Carroll was recommended by a coworker who was very happy with the work they did in rewiring his 1880s era house. The price they quoted was about half of what we thought the cost would be. There was no drama - they came in when they said they would, on time, and did exactly what we asked them to do. The work is first rate. Its a huge weight off of our shoulders to be rid of electrical wiring that was approaching 100 years old. And they did a good job of cleaning up the mess. We were beyond pleased; to be honest, Mick and his crew were fantastic. I have no qualms, or reservations about recommending Walls Carroll.
Description of Work: We hired Walls Carroll to replace the remaining knob & tube wiring in our "old" (1916 era) house. Work at our house included all of the second floor ceiling fixtures, and a new run to the attic from the electrical box. We also had them relocate switches and outlets to more convienient locations, and install a bathroom fan in our second floor bathroom. We also had them add an additional outdoor outlet.

Walls Carroll gave us an exact quote. Two other companies gave us a price range claiming that they wouldn't know how the circuits were wired until actually doing the work. The upper end of this range was much higher than Walls Carroll's quote. Walls Carroll gave us an estimate for 2men/3 hours and it took them well over 4 hours to do the job. In the end, their price was probably much lower than what the other two companies would have charged. Since I was around during the job, I could see that they worked well and neatly. They mostly cleaned up after themselves (they left some debris in the basement - not a big deal). Everything works fine and there were no issues of any kind. Good communication overall with the company as well as the two people who actually did the work (Jeremy and Shane).
Description of Work: 1) Move 3-gang switch box down a wall; 2) Add cable line, jack and new power outlet on other side of a wall off existing circuit.

It was an emergency repair. It was a bizarre thing because the electrician said Merry Christmas and didn?t charge us anything. He went out to his car and told us that he didn?t have his invoices with him. He said that he would see in January. He told us to call him again if we wanted him to do the whole thing and so we did. In fact, we did have him come back in January to do the whole job, but we were under no obligation to do that. So, that was a remarkable thing what he did. The temporary fix was perfectly fine for the conditions. They were very professional, courteous and timely when they came out in January and replaced the whole breaker box. There was nothing whatsoever I can complain about. That just blew us away. We were totally prepared to spend hundreds of dollars to get our electricity back on Christmas Eve. I would definitely use their services in the future too.
Description of Work: Walls Carroll Electric did some electrical work for us on Christmas Eve because there was a breaker box malfunction. It was a short circuit type of thing and it did shut off half the electricity to the house. So, they came out and did a temporary fix in anticipation of getting a complete breaker box replaced a few weeks later.

I enjoyed working with MIck. I found him using Angie's List. He came to my house to assess our problems. He seemed very professional, knowledgeable and sincere. During his "troubleshooting," he found a couple of potentially serious issues that we didn't even know about. Afterward, he sent a written proposal outlining all of the work and the related costs. He and two employees came a few days later and spent nearly the entire day at the house installing a subpanel and several dedicated circuits, among other things. Initially, Mick thought he'd have to tear out some of my tiled backsplash in the kitchen for the circuit for the microwave. But he was able to "fish" the line and didn't have to tear out anything! He and his crew were polite and conscientious. I will definitely hire them again for electrical work.
Description of Work: Mick and his crew installed a 20-circuit sub-panel because our main panel had too many circuits on it. We had too many outlets on one GFI circuit, so Mick installed three dedicated circuits to eliminate the problems we were having. He also installed a dedicated circuit for our microwave oven. He sealed our outside meter, which was slowly leaking water into our circuit panel. He traced out and found a short in one of our outdoor receptacles.

Some people are good at what they do, and some people are exceptional at what they do. Mick Magers, owner of Walls-Carroll Electric Service, is one of those people who is not only exceptional at what he does, but is also very conscientious about the final outcome. When we decided to finally have overhead lighting installed in the finished basement of the home we had purchased two years ago, we contacted four separate electricians for estimates. All seemed to be good, competent professionals. But three expressed some degree of skepticism about running wire up through the finished drywall ceiling and left us with a feeling that we would need extensive drywall repair once the job was done. Magers was the exception. He exuded confidence in the project, outlined exactly the minimal number of saw cuts that he would make to do the job, and was very careful to understand exactly what we wanted. And perhaps one of the bigger selling points during the estimate was when his son Shane, who works with him on the jobs, went to take a light switch plate off of the wall: After he removed the screws, the plate still stuck to the wall due to being stuck to paint; instead of just ripping it off of the wall and likely taking patches of paint with it, he asked for a razor so that he could carefully cut the paint and not lift a patch of it off the wall when removing the plate. It's that attention to detail and care about a person's property that is often lacking in other contractors. Long story getting longer - we hired Mick and Shane to do the job. Prior to the work I was still concerned that things might never look the same again in our basement and expected a lot of follow-up drywall work. But Mick and Shane came out, got down to business and were able to fish wires through and around our ductwork without busting up our ceiling. The lighting is exactly what we hoped for and they even patched the small drywall cuts, ran the sweeper and moved furniture back into place for us when they were done. Their estimate came in a little higher than the others, but Mick stuck to the original price quote and the very minimal intrusion into the drywall, coupled with the thorough cleanup and patchwork more than paid for itself. These guys are a quality operation!

We had used Walls Carroll for some electrical work over the summer, and called them when my husband accidentally twisted and burned a wire in our kitchen light fixture. We called on a Monday, and an electrician was at our doorstep by Tuesday afternoon. While they were here, we also had some dimmers replaced. All four jobs took a few hours but, including parts, the work didn't break our budget. I like that the employees with this company are friendly, personable, and professional. I feel very comfortable having them in my home and highly recommend! They also offer a 10% Angie's List discount, which is always appreciated. :)

I called Walls-Carroll on July 1, 2010, to get the above 6 Dedicated RG-6 coaxial cable runs installed. They set-up an appointment for July 8, 2010, for Jeremy and one additional assistant to do the work. They came out on time and did a great job. Jeremy also gave us very helpful advice on what Time Warner needed to do on the final internet upgrade. (Some technical issues to watch out for.) As a result of Walls-Carroll's fine work, our internet and cable service are excellent. (The price may seem at first a bit high, but the end result was well worth it. Keep in mind, it was most of a day with two people working.) Walls Carroll Electric did outstanding work in all parts of this project. We have used them before and will most definitely use them again.
Description of Work: Installed 6 Dedicated RG-6 coaxial cable runs with 3 to second floor and 3 to the first floor. The purpose was to get these computer/cable TV lines installed correctly, before Time Warner upgraded our internet service.

WOW! This is the third time that I have used this company and they continue to offer great service. After discovering the cause of the outlets not working, he made sure to inform me that we were overloading the circuit in the basement.I had a lot of questions and he answered them all, including some about our bowing basement walls. I found out that the gentleman who did the service was the owner of the company. He was very friendly, kind, professional, and, most importantly, knowledgeable about his craft.

I can't say enough good things about the work performed by the guys from Walls-Carroll. They were professional, friendly, and always on schedule. They left our home immaculate at the end of the first day, even though they would be returning the second day. I love that this is a local, family-owned business; in fact, a father-son team worked on our improvements together. I would highly recommend this company as one that is trustworthy and reliable, with employees who take pride in their work!
Description of Work: Mick, Shane, and Jeremy from Walls-Carroll spent two days at our new home, and tackled a long list of improvements we needed/wanted: installed two ceiling fans and a bath fan; grounded multiple outlets, including the washing machine; installed a new outlet on the outside of our home; added dimmer switches to existing lights; among other fixes.

Perfect! A delightful experience. I have recently done a lot of remodeling and I must admit I was rather dreading "another contractor in the house." They were courteous, professional, and efficient. I couldn't have been more satisfied or more pleased with the work. They arrived at 8:30 am and were gone by 1 PM. They cleaned up the mess....even ran the vacuum!! They actually purchased the under counter lighting for me and gave me very specific instructions on what kind of a bedroom fan to purchase. One of them even helped me secure a cupboard to the wall that I was working on in the garage! My neighbor came over and was so impressed he had his attic fan replaced. They deserve an A+. I would highly recommend them for anyone needing any electrical work done!

Mick came out to give us an estimate. He quoted us two fixed prices, one if we wanted him to install the fixture, the other if we wanted to install the fixture ourselves (after he installed wiring.) We decided to have him install the fixture. Both at the time of the estimate and on the date of service, Mick was prompt, courteous, friendly, and professional. The installation looks and works great and Mick cleaned up after his work. Really, we couldn't have asked for a better experience.

The dispatcher, Cory, was very courteous when I first called to inquire about the job. He explained their fee schedule, and together we made a "guestimate" of the time it might take. We ordered the fixtures from a lighting company. Once the fixtures had arrived, we were able to schedule on the day we requested (within 4 days). The owner arrived that morning, after calling to let us know he was en route. He was very careful about the work -- including taking care to avoid hurting some new plantings, and a treasured peony! The fixtures were a bit more complicated to put together than any of us had anticipated, and so the job took a bit longer. It was clear that he was working very efficiently -- so I had no concern about adjusting the overall job time. The original conversation had only been a "best guess" because we did not have the fixtures at that time. He, in turn, adjusted his charges slightly, and I felt it was very a very fair price! I would call them again in a minute!
Description of Work: Walls-Caroll replaced four external wall lights (on either side of our garage doors, and entry doors), and also the garden post lamp. All the lamps required working in or around garden plants.
