Description of Work: Dotter Drains did a great job. Their method for downspouts is to pull up the grass in squares, like patches of sod. They dig deeper to lay the pipes, cover them and replace your existing grass! This job passed under multiple sidewalks and they dug tunnels for the pipe, without disturbing the concrete. These are manual digging processes so they watch the weather and it takes a few extra days compared to someone running a trench machine. I am very happy not to need repair for my grass or sidewalks, so it is worth a few extra days!

Description of Work: Steve listened carefully to my drain problem and seemed very knowledgable. He told me that I should have first someone go through the drain lines with a camera as he did not have the particular equipment needed. If this procedure indicated a problem with damaged drain tile, etc., he would do the repair. I had another provider I had used several times in the past to do the scoping and that took care of the problem.

We've had major issues with our downspout and sump pump drain that goes to the street. We've had multiple companies snake it and try to free it up. Our sump pump ran constantly because the water didn't have anywhere to go. At first site Steve knew right away the best solution is to replace the drain completely. He dug the entire ditch by hand. As a result there was minimal damage to the yard. His fees are very reasonable considering the labor that he puts in. He's very hard working and the efforts reflected in the end result. We haven't had any issues which means I haven't had any sleepless nights worrying about my basement flooding.

I would recommend Steve Dotter for anyone's gutter drain issues. His assessment and methodology are accurate, efficient and minimally invasive for your lawn and your budget. I would unconditionally hire him again for future work. I had three other estimates from reputable companies. Steve's estimate was more competitive because he took the time to critically investigate the components of the job and not just figure a dollar amount based on linear feet. His trademark, leave the job looking like he was never there, is true. After correctly watering and settling, the sod shows no visible markings of anything being done to our yard. Thanks Steve.

Steve was amazing! We were having problems with water in our basement and thought the issue was with our gutter drain pipes. Steve came out, looked at the problem and explained the solution. He hand dug the entire project so very little damage was done to the yard and laid new drain pipe. It was extremely hot at the time and the ground was hard. He started the project and then had to wait a few days for rain. When he finished, one could hardly tell that anything had been done in the yard. Unbelievable! Steve is an incredibly dedicated worker who does top notch work. Our water problems have disappeared.

It went fine. I think he did a good job. He works by himself so i thought he did a good job. I called him back in October because I noticed some dampness around the pipe on the ground. He came back the next day and dug down to show me that the dirt below the surface level was dry. We tested it with water and it ran fast out of the system. I was concerned and he reassured me everything was fine. So it is something i am not concerned about now.

Very satisfied. Steve definitely knew his trade and left the client feeling confident that the installation would be dependable and lasting. Steve works alone and while this may increase the on-the-job time gives one the assurance that every step is being done correctly and in a manner that the business owner himself would want and demand for the customer. It was significant to us that Steve removed no more sod than was that minimally required and that every attempt was made to restore the lawn in a manner that would speed unscarred recovery. The price was fair and the quality of the work very acceptable; would recommend Steve to others without hesitation.

Large roots from my river birch tree had broken the drain pipe in my front yard, and subsequently clogged it with roots. As a result, water wasn't draining away from my house properly and a little bit of water started coming into my basement when it rained hard. Once I figured out the problem, I knew I didn't have the time or the knowledge to fix it properly, so I started researching contractors. As I mentioned, I got several estimates and Steve came in the lowest. He wasn't available for a couple weeks, but it wasn't an emergency so I didn't mind. Once he started, he completed the work in just a few days, repaired the sod where he'd dug it up and cleaned up all his materials. We've had several hard rains since then and I've had no problems. In fact, the one low spot in my side yard that used to collect water when it rained is now fixed too. Apparently it wasn't a grade problem as much as a drain problem. Anyway, Steve did a really good job and I'd highly recommend him to anyone.
Description of Work: Steve repaired and replaced the underground drain pipes on the front and side of my house. He did a great job and his prices came in below everyone elses. (I got 3 other estimates). I've already referred him to a friend who needs similar work done.

Perfectly! This is the second* time we've called Mr. Dotter to carry out drain work for us. He is just as good now as he was in April, 2010! The quality of his work is SUPERB and his PRICES are (STILL!) VERY reasonable given the fact that the nature of his work involves EXTREMELY HARD, BACK-BREAKING, MANUAL LABOR (Mr. Dotter does all the digging work meticulously by hand, using non-motorized tools)! He neatly cut the sod and saved it to put back (this SAVED us the TIME, EXPENSE and ENERGY of RESEEDING/RENOVATING THE LAWN). We'll simply pat it down with our feet, water it well and in no time at all won't even know that any digging work had been done in that area. We called him on the phone/459-8392. He came out within 3 days to assess the work, called us that evening with the price, we accepted and he came out 2 days later to begin the work. Due to the intense labor involved in digging hard/clay undisturbed ground (encountering stubborn tree roots along the way!), he needed to come back the next day (started on the 28th and finished the next day - an AMAZING HERCULEAN FEAT)! We are most grateful to have a person of Mr. Dotter's caliber, talent and stamina come to our home and work for us. We sincerely thank Angie's List for what they do - without them we may never have met Mr. Dotter (a fine, local person who attended HS in the Clintonville community). He is a very nice, friendly and honest person - not to mention extremely hard-working, which is a serious understatement! He always treats us, and our property, with utmost respect. Anyone hiring Mr. Dotter will NOT be disappointed in him - in his excellent work ethic, extensive knowledge of drainage issues and its myriad requirements, perserverence, professionalism, responsiveness, ingenuity, etc. [We had an aesthetic concern, and verbally expressed same to Mr. Dotter during our initial meeting. We preferred not to end up with, at the end of the job, with several feet of white PVC pipe exposed to daylight (as it and quot;ranand quot; horizontally along the foundation carrying water received from the connected downspout) making that area look unsightly - this also happened to be the side of the home that faced the and quot;curb/public viewand quot; (otherwise the aesthetics aspect would not have mattered so much to us). To further complicate the matter, the existing layout of the terrain is terribly uneven (having a difference as much as 12and quot;!) and it contains a massive dense system of tree roots providing absolutely NO alternative route for installing this section of PVC pipe - it just HAD to be installed in that specific spot, extending several feet in length along the foundation! After hearing the disappointing news, we resigned ourselves to having to live with this unsightly section of exposed pipe - even painting it to camouflage it a bit would not have been the BEST solution! To our wonderful amazement, however, Mr. Dotter came to the rescue - he ingeniously found an excellent way to and quot;buryand quot; this portion of the pipe (the ideal solution!) and now no one knows its there but us!!! WOW! Exhausted as we know you were Mr. Dotter, as you neared the end of this most physically demanding project, you STILL went the and quot;extra mileand quot; in putting this finishing touch and we cannot thank you enough for doing that for us! God bless you and thank you for everything]! P.S. Although it was not an urgent/necessary matter, Mr. Dotter nevertheless made a special trip back to our home the very next day, after the job was finished, to kindly drop off a receipt (invoice) for our records! He didn't have one with him during the time the work was in progress, but said he would complete one and drop it off for us and quot;tomorrowand quot;. Mr. Dotter kept his word and did exactly what he said he would do! Please do NOT hesitate to give Mr. Dotter a call for any needed drain work at 459-8392 - he's truly a gem and I am most confident you'll be extremely satisfied with the quality of his work (and price)! *Last year, Mr. Dotter installed for us the long PVC pipe running under our lawn (he connected it to our sump pump so it can discharge the water at the curb) - he neatly cut and saved the sod and now we can't tell where the underground pipe is - in fact, we all had a tough time locating it because there was NO evidence in the lawn to indicate where it was and he needed to know its exact location so he could connect/tie into it for the current job!
Description of Work: Installed 3" PVC pipe underground (all digging done by hand, saving the sod!), which involved tunneling under a concrete sidewalk! Connected same at one end to the gutter's downspout (which receives rain from our Mansard roof) and at the other end to an existing underground drain PVC pipe buried in our lawn, which will discharge all the water at the curb. Thanks to Mr. Dotter's outstanding work, we will no longer be facing any issues with water seeping into our basement, nor having a frequently-running electric sump pump (saving us money on our monthly electric bills). Price is for the cost of labor and includes cost of materias! Awesome job!

I called Steve Dotter after checking Angie's List, and he came out promptly to review the worksite. His quote was reasonable, so I hired him to do the work. Before he began, he talked with me about how he planned to proceed. He did all of it himself, and according to the verbal agreement and price that he had indicated. In addition, the work was done with precision and care. We've had a couple of very heavy, prolonged rains since, and all seems well. He gave me a verbal that we could call him if anything ever went wrong.

I called Mr. Dotter on the phone in the evening and he came out the next day (afternoon) to give a quote. Price was fantastic and I accepted! Said he could start in 2 hours, which he did. Everything was done by hand! He encountered large roots and worked very hard cutting through them - AMAZING strength, given the fact that Mr. Dotter is an older gentleman! The lawn will look as good as new, with watering on our part, since he saved and neatly put back all the sod. Everything he did was done with meticulous care and great attention to detail. He used a level(!) to make sure the pipe was draining downwards. I can't say enough about Mr. Dotter -- his work ethic is unsurpassed! I have never observed this kind of work ethic in a contractor. He is a very rare person indeed! I will be recommending him to everyone who needs this type of work done (hopefully he will not have retired by then).
