Joe and his team were great from start to finish. He provided an estimate in detail from start to finish and they did everything to the letter that was in estimate. They communicated during the whole process and always arrived on time if not early. Their clean up was exceptional, quality of work wonderful. Joe definitely knows his work and his team is great. If I ever need this type of work in future, they will be the one that I use. Highly recommend

They did a great job! Their arborist promptly showed up to survey the job, then e-mailed us an estimate, which was the lowest (by just a few dollars) of the three bids that we received. They were able to schedule the job about one week later. A crew of two arrived with a cherry-picker and a shredder, cutting the tree from the top down. They were careful not to damage the surrounding trees and shrubs. They cut the stump as closely as possible to ground level, since I didn't want the stump to be ground later. A third worker arrived toward the end of the job and helped with clean-up. I was especially impressed with the thoroughness with which they cleaned-up after the tree was felled. They used a leaf rake to get rid of the twigs that fell around the tree and a blower to get rid of the twigs and sawdust that fell on our deck. Very professional.

We were very pleased each time we used them starting with an estimate before any work. Every time the people were on time, very nice, and cleaned up all the work sites.

I had to have two ash trees taken down due to the Emerald Ash Bore. They were enormous trees - towered over my house (very sad). I wasn't there at the time but my son was. I was a little nervous about such big trees coming down as they were very close to my house. My son said Russell Tree Service easily brought both trees down. I was also concerned that they would make my yard a mess because it had been raining for several days before the trees were removed. When I got home from work, the trees were gone and you couldn't even tell that Russell Tree Service had been in my yard - no ruts or limbs anywhere. They also ground the stumps down to ground level and will be replanting two Autumn Blaze Maples in the general proximity of the fallen ash trees (this will be an additional $195.00 for both new trees).They also recommended that I have my Norway Maple pruned and this was all in the cost of the $620.00. I would highly recommend using Russell Tree Service.

I got a bid from Russell Tree Experts and the price was very fair, plus I was impressed by the professionalism this company brings to the table. This was late-May and I told them there was no rush at all, that I was willing to wait if that helped the price - anytime before Thanksgiving, so far as I cared. They tentatively told me it would be in 6 to 8 weeks, but just a couple weeks later the big storm of 2012 hit, causing damage all across central Ohio. I knew they were called into action on more pressing needs removing storm damage and like I said, I wasn't in any hurry at all. Finally in late summer they called and were ready. As expected, they brought equipment and trained personnel and safely brought the huge tree down (~20" trunk at the base), leaving nothing but the stump cut right at the dirt level - my choice as well not to grind it. Russell tackled a tough job and did great work, leaving a clean worksite at a great price. I wouldn't hesitate to use them again.

They were very prompt to respond to our initial request for estimate. Their estimator, TJ Nagel, was very professional and knowledgable. The company also worked with us and our immediate neighbor on pricing - providing us with a neighbor discount due to the volume of work being done between the two properties. They showed up promptly at the time and date scheduled. The team had to use large equipment as well as actually scaling/climbing the trees to cut back dead branches in close quarters with garages, homes and power lines. They did a great job with the trees and our lawn/landscaping were left incredibly clean upon completion of their work. Would highly recommend them.

They arrived on time for the appointment. They needed to check some prices and would send me an estimate. They never sent an estimate and did not call me back. I have since had the work performed by another company (Angie's List A rated).

I know the owner very well because he was my student in horticulture at Ohio State and he just honest and very good. He would be the only one that I will use. I have recommended them to other people.

The crew showed up on time, removed the dead ash trees from a very wooded lot. None of the remaining healthy trees were damaged in the process. All the men showed great respect for each others safety and respect for our property, landscape and home.

Russell Tree has been highly professional and effective we will continue to call on them in the years to come. We would gladly recommend them to friends and family.

The tree was in the middle of a raised garden, so we were concerned that we would have to remove part of the wall supporting the garden and probably lose a lot of flowers in order to have the stump ground out. However, the folks from Russell managed to get the stump grinder through a narrow area that was level with the rest of the yard, and grind the stump with essentially no damage to the raised garden or any of the flowers therein. Needless to say, I was impressed!

We could not have been more pleased with the service, from start to finish. The portion of the tree that had fallen went down around 2 a.m. on Friday night, and left the balance of the tree looming over the house causing us concern that it would fall on the house. We called and left a voicemail on Saturday morning, and received a return call from their office a few hours later. They said that although they do not normally do any scheduling on Saturday, because of the emergency nature of our situation, they fit us in for an evaluation and estimate on Monday. I received a call on Monday from TJ with his assessment and the estimated price for removal. He answered all my questions and I thought they were very reasonably priced considering the amount of work that needed to be done. TJ made a call right then and there to coordinate the rental of a crane that would be needed due to the size of the job. They fit us into the schedule on Thursday, and arrived promptly at the stated time of 8:30 a.m. The crew was professional, friendly, worked diligently, and were respectful of our property. I was very impressed with the entire crew and the work they did. TJ managed the job very well; he kept us informed throughout the process, worked with us to provide the requisite information for insurance purposes, and communicated our concerns and requests to the rest of the crew. I would not hesitate to call them again, or recommend them to anyone needing work done.

It was fine. They were okay. It wasn’t like they made a big impression on me that I recommend them. I would probably not use them.

They did it all in a day. Worked very quickly and did a good job. They were professional. I wouldn't even know they had been there, they cleaned up extremely well. They were courteous and pleasant to work with. And they stuck to their price.

We had a very good experience. We obtained several estimates and discussed work with each bidder. Russel provided good advice and the lowest estimate. The work was done promptly and well. The cleanup was very good and the follow up on the stump removal was also prompt. We were very satisfied and will use again.

i showed up at the job as they were getting ready to unload the evergreens to plant and the size was in 5 foot range (tags were still on these at 5-6 foot). I told the person planting (owner was not at site) that those were not the correct size as our order was for 6-7 foot everygreens. He checked the order and agreed they were the wrong size and called the owner. The owner explained that he could not get the size we had ordered and this was the best he could do and then proceeded to sell me on the idea of smaller tree will root quicker. He then (after the issue was brought to his attention) offered to reduce the price by $30 each. I explained that we wanted the larger evergreens and ask why he did not discuss this issue with me before planting. He acknowledge he should have but had forgot. The onsite worked pulled off a minor miracle by knowing someone at Oakland to exchange these for the correct size. The 2 people that planted the evergreens were very professional and did a great job - they will receive an A grade (including finding us the correct size and very good quality everygreens). The owner is very lucky to have this type of help. The fact that the owner did not call to explain this event prior to even proceeding is not acceptable and will always question what would have happened if I had not been there to try and fix this issue when this occurred.

Quality of work was excellent, business practices were appalling! Joe called for payment and I asked about the last stump that had not been removed. He came out, brought an axe and took care of its removal. We then discussed a future job of planting some trees. He asked about payment and I explained that I was awaiting a credit card replacement which should arrive in just a few days and would pay him the moment I received it. He said he was trying to meet payroll by the end of the week, but had other customers he could collect from, so it would be fine to wait for my card replacement and make payment in a few days. We shook hands and parted on good terms. Less than one hour later, he called and left a message demanding payment same day or next. I could not believe the turnabout of events. I returned his call and told him I was not very happy about the message he had left. He said that he had spoken with his wife and that they had to have payment that day or next or they would turn this over to collections. I asked him "you mean the same day you completed the last of the work, you're going to threaten to send this to collections"? He said yes that he had to meet his weekly payroll. I knew this was a pressure tactic, as they would lose a lot of money by going through this process. He also stated that if I were to pay by credit card, that he would charge a 3% fee on the amount, which is not stated anywhere on the invoice. Actually, I had previously spoken to his office manager, Lynn, and have an e-mail from her stating that credit card payment would be fine. So, in the end, I agreed to move money from my emergency fund to pay him, just to be done with this company. So, needless to say, he will not be planting any trees for me, has lost any future business from me, lost any referrals I would have given and lost a positive feed back I would have submitted here on Angie's list, simply from his poor business practices. So, future customers beware...this is no way to treat people!

Dug appropriate hole in correct location,added enriching soil, planted tree balls, and finished with soil and large mulch layer. Gave me appropriate notice and finished quickly, worked hard. One tree was planted with a lookalike by mistake, and was fixed the next day. I've used Joe Russell's company before: he is university trained but a practical guy, is incredibly knowledgeable about trees and schrubs, and you can believe what he says.

Russell Tree Experts came and gave me an estimate for the removal of a fairly large tree. Theirs was the best (least expensive) of 3 estimates so I decided to go with them. Later I realized there were limbs of other trees I would like removed so I had them come out again for another estimate. And on the day of cutting I realized there were still a couple of more limbs of trees I would like removed. Each time they were happy to discuss the job with me, what it would entail, quote additional costs (if any) and then to do the work. I wound up having them remove a large, silver maple that was leaning towards my house and some electrical wires, also some large limbs of other trees that hung over the electrical wires, and a small limb of a tree that was touching my house and allowing squirrels to come to my house and damage it. They brought a large crane, a large dump truck to haul away the large limbs, and a grinder that chopped small limbs into chips that they hauled away. They did a beautiful job! The trees all looked perfectly natural after they had trimmed them - not like bonsai trees. They were fast, courteous, and removed the fallen limbs, brush and leaves and even blew wood chips away from the alley. I watched them work and though I'm not an expert, it seems that they were very conscientious about their personal safety (this is a dangerous profession!) and about avoiding damaging nearby trees, a truck parked nearby, and avoiding electrical wires. Here's a tip: because of the difficulty and expense of moving around their large equipment, they can do two trees for well under twice the cost of doing one tree, three for less than three times the cost of one, etc. So if you have some work you might want done, it might pay you to have all the tree work you might want for the next 5 years done at once. That was the approach I wound up taking, and I won't have to worry about the next thunderstorm bringing a limb down on my car or my electrical wires. These guys did a great job and were very reasonably priced. I would recommend them without hesitation.
