Muth & Company Roofing

They were timely and professional. I am still amazed that they did such a good job matching the colors of the shingles that the repaired area blends in perfectly.

We are so grateful to Muth Roofing for the excellent work they have done on our 1931 house over the years. In 2001, we hired Arrow Roofing because they weren’t too expensive. After several years of replastering and repainting the third floor after leaks, none of which were fixed permanently by Arrow, we paid Muth thousands of dollars to fix all the roof problems and install new gutters, gutter covers and downspouts. No more problems! A few weeks ago, they replaced our roof and did a terrific job. I was especially impressed, during the estimate process, that Chad Muth noticed nail pops and cracks on our finished third floor ceiling and realized they were a sign of poor ventilation. He climbed into the insulation-filled parts of our attic to diagnose the problem and come up with a solution. The poor ventilation is most likely the reason our shingles failed prematurely. They sent over an energetic crew of 5 who got the job done in two long days. They were polite, the crew boss spoke English, and they did a good job cleaning up. During the job, Chad or one of the other supervisors popped over frequently to check on the progress of the job, and Chad came over afterwards to discuss our 50-year transferable warranty and make sure everything was okay. The roof looks great, there are no leaks, and the attic now has good ventilation.

Muth & Co. appeared to hose the crap in our gutters up onto the roof, all over the outside of the gutters and onto our landscaping, driveway and concrete entrance. I don't ever want them coming near our house ever again. Service in previous years was fine, though. I'm not sure why they did such a lousy job this year.

Punctual, thorough, and professional. Gave a detailed roof inspection report w/ photos.

They came to inspect the roof and said it was a nail that had popped out. They happened to have the same color shingle in their truck. They removed the shingle, repaired the hole and sealed a few other nails that were coming up as well as sealing around the chimney. They did all of this during that initial inspection visit. Said we had a couple more years before we needed to replace the roof. They were right on time and very professional.

Came and took pictures of the roof. Said they would be back and left. Never came back and then billed me for the job. Crazy. I was certainly duped.

Our new roof was done in 2 days when we were out of town. We came back and roof looked great, and cleanup was excellent--only found 2 nails and a very small amount of roofing debris. I think their price is a little high but hopefully that is offset with good customer service.

They were professional, polite and did exactly what they said they were going to do. I am very happy with their work. They took pictures of all the repairs needed beforehand and what repairs they made afterward.

Missed some areas and now I have leaks

They provided two quotes/estimates. The first was just for the portion damaged by a storm. This quote provided some insurance money to pay for a whole new roof. So far, this is a great new roof. They are extremely patient, and walked us through their process.

They arrived on time, performed the work, and showed me before and after photos of my gutters.

Muth did an excellent job replacing our roof. They were professional and quickly resolved a couple of issues we had after installation. They also came back two months later to replace a piece of metal where the paint had started to peel. We were very grateful for their professionalism and follow up.

Job done quickly and efficiently. Excellent clean up. Both the salesperson and the foreman were professional and helpful.

They always do a fantastic job. My husband is very suspicious of service people and he is always the one who calls them immediately every time we need any roofing work done.

They were busy so it took a while to get scheduled. The initial inspection did not find all the problem areas.

When they finally showed up, they were great. Communication was not great at all.

I used Muth & Co. Roofing several years ago for a repair on a rubber roof portion of my home and had a good experience. That is why I called them this time. I was surprised at the problem with the estimate that resulted in my hiring another company this time. Muth's estimate was $860 and I paid another company $770 so my issue was not cost related - they were competitive in the bid. I'm giving the negative review because Muth, and one other roofing company, did not properly evaluate the problem and what they told me in the estimating process caused me a lot of difficulty with a mason company I'd used. And it would have cost me five thousand unnecessary dollars if I had done what Muth's estimator said was required. I am glad I dug deeper for more information elsewhere and used a different roofing contractor. I had a leak in my living room that was the result of a flashing problem on my chimney. I hired a mason to repair the chimney and the mason company told me I would need a roofer to install the flashing and repair a rotten area on the roof next to the chimney. When Muth & Co. Roofing estimate person came to look at the project, the mason had already removed my chimney and rebuilt it. My house was built in 1950 and has a structural stone chimney (weight bearing stone stacked upon each other). The Muth estimator did not examine it closely and mistakenly assumed it was a cultured stone chimney (a concrete block chimney wall with thinner slices of stone glued on) and told me the mason had done the base wrong and the stone at the bottom of the chimney would have to be ground out and removed so that Muth could install flashing. That was confusing to me and I questioned the estimator several times asking him how it would possibly stand up if you removed the bottom stones on which the other ones sat. I just didn't see how it could float on air with the base removed since I knew it was made of nothing but those stones he wanted removed (I'd seen it rebuilt and understood the construction was all stone). He just kept saying to call a certain mason company that Muth works with and they'd come grind it out, and then Muth could come do the flashing. I'd just had the chimney re-built a couple days before so this was very upsetting. I was awake all night trying to figure out what to do and I then took the mason I'd hired to task and threatened not to pay the $3,000 invoice. As noted, another roofing company gave an estimate the same day and said something similar about the base being wrong so Muth was not the only company whose estimators don't have knowledge on an older chimney of this style. Muth's mason referral came out to figure out what was needed. That second mason looked at my chimney and my two roofing estimates and explained to me that Muth and other roofing estimator did not know what they were looking at and had made wrong assumptions that an interior chimney wall existed to which they could attach flashing under the stone (that Muth was assuming if bottom stone was ground out, then the stones above would still be glued to that wall). The Muth recommended mason told me he would take the whole thing down and build the cement block chimney wall that Muth said I needed for $5,000 so that Muth could then do the work described on their estimate. So, now understanding that two different stone chimney construction types existed, I called Muth and explained that they were quoting the job on the wrong type. I was told my message would go to the estimator and he would call me back. Not hearing back for several days, I emailed and explained the problem with the estimate again. I received a response that Muth was trying to get their mason affiliate to explain it to them so they could re-quote the job. By then I had already apologized to the other mason I'd used for taking the word of the two roofing companies that he'd done the base of the chimney wrong and I'd found a roofer who was familiar with a structural chimney and how to do flashing on my chimney style. I had a call this morning from Chris at Muth to see if I was going to use them. I'd already told them three days ago that I hired another contractor and I let Chris know the repairs have already been completed elsewhere. Muth was punctual on the estimate appointment, they follow up to emails and are polite. I still think Muth is good for general roofing based on my last experience, but I would recommend using a different company if you have an older chimney and need flashing. I have given a positive review to the company who actually ended up doing the work and would consider them the better option.

Muth employees discovered the original wood shingle roof under the Ondura roof. That raised the cost of the new roof as new sheathing was required over the entire roof. The new roof included ventilation in multiple locations and a 30-year warranty. Employees had no difficulty correcting the join to prevent any leaks. They worked hard to contain and remove the mess and leave the yard in good shape. A few plants suffered a bit, but all should recover.

I think I have a good quality roof. However I was a little miffed that I found a nail on my driveway. On the morning of installation, I noted that the tarps were not laid down as well as they might have been, and I mentioned this to the workers. I also called the office, and Chuck said he would be out to check on this once he got his truck fixed. Once the job was done, I will admit that they cleaned up well. However finding a nail on my driveway is not what I would expect after paying $9831.

They were great. Complete job was done in one day. Arrived early in the morning as promised. Clean up was perfect. No nails found anywhere around the house or in the grass. Chris followed-up after the job was done, making sure we were satisfied with the whole process. Highly recommend.

It was "textbook" and other roofers should follow their example. The salesman/supervisor was there several times a day to check on the progress. I had an expensive unique, small front patio with colored patterned cement and they had a special plywood board cut to protect it. Yes, they are somewhat expensive but remember you get what you pay for.

It took them a week longer to get to us than they thought due to inclement weather / backlog. Other than that, it was good.

Great job, very professional, polite workers

I'm OCD. These guys worked with me for weeks to get my trim boxes replaced to my satisfaction. They worked with patience, kindness and were always respectful. I would absolutely recommend this company and hire them again for any future work.

Called to say he was running early, and we agreed on a new, earlier time. Showed him the leaks we had, and said we wanted an estimate for both repair and replacement. He said he would send us a quote, and, he went outside to check the roof and never returned. We expected him to come in and discuss his findings and answer our questions. He checked the roof and left. We never had a chance to ask our many questions.
