Everything was thought out perfectly so that the four day process proceeded like clockwork. The short walls were constructed with much attention was given to a strong foundation for longevity. The workers were knowledgeable and diligent. They showed a great sense of pride in their work and the results reflected their high standards. Mr. Miller kept in constant contact with the project to be certain that it proceeded in precision-like fashion. He was present multiple times in the day to meet with the workers and the foreman of the team to ensure the highest quality. And the team (Aaron, Craig, Jessy) accordingly. A great team produced a final GREAT PRODUCT!
Description of Work: Miller Landscape of Westerville reconstructed a large area of our property where a row of 10 tall trees were removed. They also constructed a long retaining wall around some of our garden bed from the side and around through the back of our house. A short retaining wall was also built around the patio. Also, some bushes were headed back.

Miller Landscape really are experts when it comes to Trees and Shrubs. They have a vast knowledge of landscape architecture and design, and can provide very creative ideas for difficult residential landscapes like mine. Marcus was fantastic to work with, and he has the most tree and landscaping knowledge compared to anyone else I've come across. I decided to go with another bid on this job for several factors, but I will always consider Miller for future landscape jobs, since I have more landscaping to do in the future. I would recommend them to others as well.

Plantings ranged from perennials to ornamental trees and shrubs. Prices varied based on the job and materials used, but I found the costs to be comparable to other landscapers in the area.

I had Miller Landscaping Services June 2012 through October 2012, and, consider he and his organization, my landscapers; as their planning and work are excellent, and their prices very fair. They are an honest organization, doing a fine job and planting very good stock, which is warrantied. For all of the service they performed, my cost was $3642.00, which I consider well spent for the results I received.
Description of Work: Clean backyard of debris, trim bushes, etc. The work was done efficiently, thoroughly, and clean-up was very neat. I had Miller Landscaping on 6-27-12 for landscaping the front of my home. The landscaping was well planned, and the quality of plantings were very good. Clean-up was neatly done, and the crew at all times was courteous. The end result was beautiful, and, the jplantings were warrantied. This service and material was approximately $1391.00. I had Miller Landscapes again on 10-18-12 for the planting of a Ginkgo tree in my front lawn. The planting was done efficiently, with great care, and, the tree is qaulity material. This Spring, 2013, it appears to be ready to leaf, after a cold, nasty Winter. It too, is warrantied. The following week Miller Landscaping planted a Serviceberry tree next to the patio in my backyard. The planting was well done, and, this Spring 2013, it is flowering, and it is ready to leaf out. The quality of the stock, the Ginkgo and Serviceberry are high quality stock, and warrantied. The price for this service was $1178. Mr. Miller is a knowledgeable person on landscaping, and, with an excellent crew, does very fine landscaping, at a fair price.

Following a good experience working with Ron to replace a dying ash tree in the front of our house we asked him to look at our beds and foundation planings & come up with a new design. Ron & his son were flexible in coming up with various plans to do all at once or in stages. They listened to our likes and dislikes and in the end came up with a plan we both agreed with. The final plan salvaged the things that were working, replaced what was dying or not working and added plantings to improve the overall appearance. We decided to do it all at once last fall and have been very pleased with the quality of the work and overall appearance front & back..

I had a rather large area that required "junk dirt" be removed and then prepped for seeding. They put down top soil, seeded the area and put straw down for cover. Most important everything was explained to me and how to take care of the area. I also had a 30' landscapping wall done in the front of myhouse that looks AWESOME!!!!
Description of Work: I called Ron Miller in complete panic. I had some work done at my home by another contractor (a non Angies List member) and they left me with a horrible mess. Ron and his team(s) came out and fixed the mess and explained everything they were going to do in the process. They arrived prompt and stayed until not only was the job done but cleaned up as well. Ron and his team were very polite and personable. It sure was nice to have workers so competent. Thanks Diane M. Caplinger

We used Miller Landscaping last year for a new paver entryway, and landscaping of our front yard. We were happy to call them again to complete the rest of our landscaping. Ron and Marcus spent a great deal of time listening to our concerns and found the perfect plants to meet our needs and desires. They arrived when promised with a very professional crew, completed demolition of old landscaping very quickly and neatly, they installed the new plants, with additional topsoil and mulch, and cleaned up well. One butterfly bush was not installed at the time of the other plants because they couldn't find a specimen that they were happy with, and they didn't want to install an inferior plant. So they came back in a couple of weeks with a beautiful plant and completed the job. I feel very confident that they will always take great care to provide the highest quality of merchandise and service.

I believe they're honest, but the quality of their work just wasn't what I needed. They did a fair job of following my instructions, but removed a bunch of plants I specifically asked they leave alone. I finally terminated their services when they mowed my lawn after days and days of rain, leaving ruts in the yard for the rest of the season (that was just incredibly careless on their part, and they couldn't possibly have not seen the damage they were doing).

It was just fair. Mr. Miller was very nice. I thought his price was high, so Mr. Miller cut the price. In cutting the price, I feel services were cut as well. Beds were not edged. No weed control applied. Triple-processed mulch quoted but double-processed is what was put down (per Miller invoice). I don't think the mulch is a big deal, it still looked very nice. We have had a significant number of weeds in the beds since the mulch and clean up. What is the point of making it look nice if you're not going to do something to control the weeds? I have used a number of companies over the years. I used to use Terra Horticultural, but they became very busy and couldn't get to us for 6-8 weeks at one point. Jeff Stroupe with Terra Horticultural has been the most reliable and highest quality top to bottom landscaper we have ever used. Beds were always edged very nicely. Pre-emergent or some sort of weed control (depending on the season, pre-emergent not always worthwhile) always applied. Very high standards. In using a half dozen companies over the years, Terra is the best value in Central Ohio.

Response from Miller Landscapes of Westerville, LLC
Our service was performed on Aug. 19, (2 ½ months ago), quoted on Aug. 12. We were promptly paid on Aug. 21. The member asked for a better price so I gave him our price for double processed mulch, because it is a bit cheaper, but we applied triple processed mulch on his beds. I told him that’s what I was doing when he requested it. That’s why the invoice says double processed. I spoke with him shortly after his posting on Angies List at his home and he acknowledged that it was triple processed and looked good. We edged all 444’ of his flower beds ( I measured them for an accurate quote ) with a mechanical bed edger that creates a clean 3-4” edge that keeps grass from spreading into the bed areas. I showed the member the edges of the beds that have been rained upon for several months of record rain in our area. They have washed-out some, but they are still effective; no grass problems. The member indicated that some perennial weeds had popped up lately in the corner of his back yard bed. We talked about herbicides and how pre- emergent are applied to prevent annual weed seeds from growing and post-emergent herbicides are used on perennial weeds such as thistles and dandelions. Prior to our service, neither was requested, quoted nor applied. Mulch is used in beds to keep annual weed seeds from growing, to keep soil temperatures moderate, and to retain moisture for the plants. It also creates a clean, neat appearance. The amount of pruning and thinning out of trees and shrubs on his property was significant due to the corrective pruning needed to bring the plants back to the shape and form they are meant to be. Over 14 man hours were spent on this corrective pruning. All weeds were pulled at this time. I was present for all but a short time during the performance of our service. All work met my high standards and I walked the front yard with the member. She was so pleased with the service that she asked us to be sure to plan on doing clean-up in the spring and we hope to do so. Respectfully, Ron Miller Miller Landscapes of Westerville, LLC

We talked, they measured and took pictures. The batteries for their camera were dead so I gave them new batteries. They declined to do the drainage work. The would not rebuild the retaining wall with railroad ties as they felt they would be "toxic"! They were going to propose an alternative method. I NEVER HEARD FROM THEM AGAIN.

We did not get a chance to meet with the member, but we did meet with the member at our busiest time of the season to discuss two problems that did not have simple solutions: an extensive drainage issue and the replacement of an outdated existing angled railroad tie retaining wall. The member rejected our common sense solutions to the drainage problem (French drain or rain garden) and wanted us to re-do the wall in railroad ties. Railroad ties are soaked in creosote (a chemical product produced through the distillation of wood or coal tar that remains heavier than water), which is toxic, and not a good idea especially with an existing nearby drainage problem that could potentially spread the chemical. It's also tough to find railroad ties because they are rarely used in our industry anymore. With "greener", safer options available now like cedar (which has natural decay-resistant properties, but is expensive), treated lumber (which uses chemicals to preserve the wood, but is MUCH safer and much more cost sensitive to install), and natural or man-made stone to create a retaining wall out of, we did not agree to install railroad ties for the customer. We indicated that we would look at other options for the wall. When Marcus went to take pictures of the wall for quoting, he realized that the camera had run out of batteries and we indicated we would have to come back to take pictures. Instead, the member offered us batteries for the camera so we wouldn't have to make the extra trip, which was very helpful. Marcus offered to give the batteries back to the member when he was done, but he told Marcus that we could keep them, so he did. The wall was not a simple solution and not one we routinely do (especially during our busiest time of the season), so I hesitated to quote the job. This hesitation put the file to the side and, though I regret this, I did not call David to stay in touch. I thought business would slow down for us a bit so I could work out a solution to the problem with treated lumber or wall stone. The member did not call us at any time to check on the status of the estimate. Upon seeing the negative response on Angie’s List, we immediately contacted the member to resolve the situation. At that time, I apologized for not keeping in touch with him and the member told us someone else performed the work.

This is a small family business consisting of father, 2 sons, and 3 or 4 other employees. Ron and Marcus spent a great deal of time talking with us and planning exactly what we wanted in great detail. The team began demolition work in a snow storm and continued working through some very inclement weather. Weather cleared up during the important preparation stages and they worked carefully to lay a strong foundation. The young men doing the work were pleasant, polite, and considerate of our property and our comfort. They were very kind and patient with our toddler grandson who was extremely interested in every step of the process. Chris took great care to explain each step of the process to me in detail. The result is a beautiful walkway that I'm sure will last several lifetimes, and greatly enhances our home. We are having them return in the near future to install the plantings they recommended for our front yard. I highly recommend this company for any landscaping work and we will certainly use them often in the future.
Description of Work: They did demolition of existing walkway, dug out and prepared a deep base, and installed paver stones creating a beautiful new walkway. Also completed a detailed, complete plan for landscaping our entire yard - front, back, and both sides.

This is a team of a father and two sons. I cannot say enough good things about what a great job they did. They spent a good amount of time looking at our property and designing a beautiful new landscape; paying close attention to the different shady/sunny areas and taking our likes/dislikes into consideration. They completed the jobs on schedule and on budget.
Description of Work: Several years of no attention to landscaping required complete removal of years of overgrown bushes and plants. The entire landscape was complete redesigned with, complete landscaping design and installation of new plants.
