Deck Masters

The finished product is WONDERFUL!!! The crew was so professional. I was always kept informed, told what would happen when. They came in completed the job very quickly and the final product is GREAT! Great Company would highly recommend!!

In the 3 yr we have had the deck, we have had a horrid experience with mold and mildew. We have just endured our 2nd year of cleaning the horrible mildew and mold on our Timber Tek deck. It is an expensive and time consuming process to clean...and it comes back in less than a years time. I can't imagine how T.T. ever approved this material with such a problem. I will be putting Olympic Decking Color Stain on my deck to deter the mildew issue. I never had this issue with my cedar decks for 23+ years. there is no way I could ever recommend this decking product, TT, to any person of my acquaintance. I regret selecting TimberTek over cedar at Deck Masters' recommendation.

They did a good job and were responsive to several small issues we had with drainage. The cement contractor they used did an outstanding job. They were careful around lawn areas and an adjoining pond. We love the patio and are looking forward to spending a lot more time outside. The crew was good to work with and didn't waste any time.

Originally, the work was scheduled to be completed in July. However, they called and said that they would be able to start early. The only negative is that on the day that they were originally going to start, I received a call that the foreman called off sick so they were going to have to reschedule for the next week. They arrived on time on the next day they were scheduled to. After analyzing the problem and laying out a plan of attack, they worked hard to get the job completed over 2 days. When they had repaired the part of the adjacent deck they had to tear out to get the work done, the result was much nicer than it had originally been. When they were done with the job, they cleaned up the work area and left no trash around. During the whole process, the two members of the crew that did the work were pleasant and extremely courteous, taking the time to explain what they had found, how they planned to correct the problem and keeping me appraised of their progress the whole time. I was extremely please with all aspects of the job that they did.

They were pretty thorough looking around. They were pretty knowledgeable about installing the hot tub. They gave some good options.

These guys were great! Once we got the scheduling worked out, they did everything as promised if not more. Had great suggestions for the layout / deck design! Work quality was superb. We just built a house and added the deck this fall and my kids even said we should have had the deck guys build our house because finished product was awesome! They cleaned up after each day and spent time explaining the process, work, etc. Definitely would reccomend to anyone. We went with a composite base with cedar rails which is a great cost savings idea versus all composite! They definitely weren't just trying to sell you the most expensive option!

We called four or five companies to assess the problem and provide a price quote. In the end we chose Deck Masters for the job because of their positive reviews. We were impressed by Mr. Mike Fresch, their salesman, for his professionalism. Mr. Fresch itemized the cost, explained the grade of each type of the material, and displayed the scope of work in drawing for us. We then asked him to get a price comparison with a different type of material and he got back with the cost for us in a very pleasant manner. After we signed the contract and the work began, we found the destruction from the water was very extensive. It not only ruined the plywood, fiber, joists, and insulation underneath the rubber, it also damaged the headboard. They removed the old ruined material, rebuilt the deck, refinished the metal hand rail, replaced insulation, replaced the old trims with new trims that were made out of Kleer material, replaced the head board, and replaced exterior framing wood with MiraTec material. They did extra work around the area of the screws to prevent any water from running through. We are pleased with their performance. Grey, the supervisor, knew what he was doing and finished the job calmly. He patiently responded to our questions and concerns. The entire crew worked well together. The bill we received for the additional work outside of the contract was reasonable. We would have no problem recommending them to anyone.

Our experience with Deck Masters exceeded our expectations in every respect from the beginning to the very end of our project. This included our initial contact with Mike Fresch, who was able to produce an accurate sketch of the porch we wanted during our first appointment. His plan was sufficiently detailed that it was submitted to and approved by the city (Upper Arlington) as proposed. During this meeting, Mike also came up with a unique solution to a potential drainage problem that we had anticipated with the joining of 3 roof lines during the creation of the porch. His estimate of our total coat was accurate, and he was forthcoming about the additional costs that were dependent on our selections from a range of possibilities (i.e. the French doors, patio paver's, dog door, ceiling fan). Each of Deck Masters' subcontractors were professional in their work and we were satisfied with the quality of what they did. Our job began with a concrete patio tear out, which posed several unexpected and significant problems, each of which was overcome without delay by Cole's Concrete and the expertise of Erik and his crew, and with the full support of John Stark, the owner of Deck Masters. We were relieved that the concrete crew took particular care not to damage the patio fencing, which was in very close proximity to the pour, during their work. This crew was very hardworking, punctual, friendly and willing to educate us. They even cleaned up at the end of each day of work. If we need future concrete work, this is the company we hope to hire. The Deck Masters Crew: Every workman was skilled and experienced, and it showed in the quality of their work. Attentive to detail, hardworking, eager to go the extra mile, and took pride in their work. They were punctual, considerate of our neighbors, kept us informed at all times, and were a friendly cohesive group. This was also a crew that cleaned up daily. During our project we needed to select the French doors and a 3-panel sliding glass door, and did so from a terrific company we were referred to by Deck Masters: Atria Building Products in Johnstown, Ohio. Unfortunately they have gone out of business (note added in 2015).

professional representative, measured everything and drew upa quick plan. Explained all of the options and made a few suggestions. As mentioned already, VERY expensive. Plus, they wanted 10% down and 45% at the start -- the only contractor to ask for 55% by the time the first nail goes in. I don't mind a little down payment, but such a big sum up front makes it more difficult to fix problems as the contractor is less apt to assist. I'm sure they do nice work, but at a 50% higher price than other good contractors with A ratings on Angie's list, I think I'll pass.

From the estimate to the finishing touches of trim, the build went very smooth. Everyone from Deck Masters answered all of my questions in a friendly and professional manner.

Mike was quite professional during the estimating process. He displayed, through discussion and a review of his briefing materials, significant expertise with our type of project. Our only quibble was that he seemed to advocate one particular brand of decking material over all others; however, we did find this to be common among the installers. Although we did not use Deck Masters for this project, we can recommend the firm to other members.

We met with Mike one evening and discussed adding a deck onto our house. My husband and I were concerned with what type of deck we could build considering we had a no build zone behind our house that limited the depth our deck could extend to. We were not really sure what exactly we wanted and Mike worked with us to come up with the best options given the space we had to work with. He drew out different options for our deck and was very open to our opinions and suggestions. He was very understanding about our no build zone and did not pressure us in any way to fight the zoning rule as one other contractor had. Mike showed us pictures of other decks they had completed and suggested building the small bar to separate the grill area from the rest of the deck. It was a great idea that we had not thought of. He also helped explain some of the rules that applied to our no build zone and things that we could still do. One of these options was that stairs were not considered part of the structure, so we were able to still have the stairs at the end of the deck as we had hoped without breaking any rules. One of the best things about Deck Masters and Mike is that we felt no pressure. We really wanted to use the TimberTech because of how low maintence it is, but it definitely comes at a cost. Mike worked with us and helped us figure out that if we used cedar for the railings it would be much cheaper and we should still have low maintence with the TimberTech floor. We signed with them a few days later. We were not expecting them to start work for about 5 weeks, but got a call after only 2 saying they were ahead of schedule and would be out the following week. They told us the entire process would take about 3 days. I came home the following Monday to find they had dug the post holes in the back yard. Tuesday they were at the house for an hour or two pour concrete into the post holes and placing the posts. They were at our house bright and early Wednesday morning at 8am. Their workers were extremely friendly and they always cleaned up after themselves. I was shocked to come home Wednesday evening to find that the deck was complete! I couldn't believe they could complete the entire thing in one day more or less. Mike called the following day to set up a time for final inspection and payment. He came out that evening and addressed the 2 tiny issues I had noticed (a nail sticking out and a large knot in the wood.) He fixed both issues on the spot and told me to call with anything else. Deck Masters and Mike were a dream to work with. They were always very curtious and friendly to deal with. I never had any problems getting a hold of them and they called with progress updates regularly. The deck looks amazing and we are very happy with how it turned out. We would definitely use them again for a project and will recommend them to all of our friends and family.

We just completed a remodeling of our master bath and an update of our screened porch. The owner of Deck Masters & Inspired Interiors, John Stark, his employees, and his sub contractors were wonderful! From the beginning of the process in planning and quoting the jobs to the last little finishing detail I had full confidence that they took pride in their work. We worked as a team, and the communication and response time were very good. In all building and remodeling projects unforeseen problems arise, and these challenges were handled cheerfully and quickly. To me that?s a true sign of an excellent contractor. I should also note that our beautiful porch was completed during even the worst of our snowy winter. The guys were out working in two feet of snow with more coming down and it didn?t stop them from doing a great job.

They were very good and they started on time. They worked very hard, and the quality of the work is excellent. They were friendly and on time. They answered any questions that I asked.

They are awesome, just fantastic. They came and did it in two days while I was at work. They cleaned up everything. It is a great deck and has got privacy fence. A couple of years in to it a part got wobbly, so, I called them, they came out and fixed it. They were great and I would highly recommend them.

They were forth coming with information. They did a good job and they cleaned up after themselves. The deck looks good. I did some caparison shopping and they were right in with everyone else.

I called them and they came out and looked at the work that the previous contractor had done, and gave me an estimate. I liked that they were willing to use my wood because I had already paid for wood through the other company. They were the only company that I had contacted that was willing to finish a job that somebody else had started. Everybody else wanted to tear it down and kind of charge the full price to redo the work. The salesman, Mike Fresch, was personable. They were on time when they came and they did what they said they were going to do for the most part.

The customer service rep was very prompt in providing a quote and always got back to me within hours of my contacting him. Very pleasant to deal with. I was very pleased with the quality of the work and the overall performance of the carpenter who did the work. Cleaned up after himself, was polite and professional. It was obvious to me that Deck Masters is very customer oriented. My satisfaction was their first priority.

The entire experience went very well. Mike was very helpful as the concept was developed and did not pressure us to sign a contract. The work was started on time and completed in a timely manner. The crew varied in size depending on the tasks at hand. Even though they had to work in some nasty weather, they clearly enjoyed their work. It was a pleasure to hear the banter among those working. Of greater importance, however, is that they did quality work leading to an excellent product. The porch is a wonderful addition to our home.

Actually, our experience with Deck Masters could not have gone better. From the initial visit of their salesman, Mike Fresch, to the completion of the project, everyone performed their job with a high degree of professionalism and expertise. When Mike first came out, we told him what kind of features we would like to have in a screened-in porch and deck, and then he helped us design it from there. With his help and suggestions, we were able to accentuate our waterfall pond and add other features we desired in a porch. After our discussion, Mike took measurements, wrote down our preferences, and gave us an accurate estimate right after our visit with him and no waiting was required. Mike was very professional and enthusiastic in his demeanor, and after he left, his enthusiasm immediately transferred to us. In October, Deck Masters began working on our porch and deck. Under the professional supervision of Gregg, our old deck was disassembled and removed in a couple of days. The shrubs surrounding this area were also removed at our request. Our new deck was incredibly built within the 2 week time period Gregg had promised. All of the men working on our project were wonderful, professional and polite. Each of them knew exactly what their job was, and performed it beautifully. Because of the very efficient and precise way the crew went about their work, it was easy to see they had done such work many times before, which really worked to our advantage. In summation, we could not be absolutely happier with our deck. It is beautiful, just what we wanted, and the workmanship is that of an expert crew. In doing the electrical work with our porch, the electrical current to our waterfall pond was cut off. This proved to be a stubborn problem, but Gregg persistently stuck with the issue of fixing it until everything was back to working order. We wish Deck Masters, Gregg, Mike and all of the crew who worked on our porch, nothing but the best and we want to thank them for giving us a very beautiful and well-designed outdoor living area. We simply couldn't be happier with their work!

Every person we dealt with was extremely nice. Mike was very helpful in designing the deck to fit our needs. The crew who built it were thorough, punctual, friendly and hard working. They cleaned up well after themselves and even added an extra day of work to make sure it was just right. The deck is built *extremely* well and has impressed everyone we know who knows anything about carpentry. It was expensive, but worth every penny. Given the opportunity, we'll definitely use Deck Masters again.

Good workmanship. Responsive to questions/issues tho timeliness could be improved. The recommended Tek boards when used as fascia later proved defective in that application. Slow to respond to complaint during summer 2008, and construction in 2007 3-4 weeks later than scheduled. Company responsive to defective boards and product warranty process has been initiated. Doing it over, I'd do more research on satisfaction with Tek product.

John had great ideas. Every day work was going on he was either here himself working or spent time checking progress. It was done in a week and everything we had expected. This Company may not give you the lowest bid, but the quality of their work is above average.

It was very excellent, they were very professional, they accomplished the work in the amount of time that they said it would take, they stuck to there estimated price and was very nice about it.
