Deck Masters

Terrific. Highly recommend. Everyone I interacted with was awesome.

In Nov 2020, they quoted for our deck and took deposit. In May 2021, they announced they don't know how to build it, and we must hire a soil engineer to give them the specs for how deep to dig, etc. Crazy! So we lost 6 months from when they took our deposit to when they said they couldn't do it. To make it up to us, they offered to refund our deposit. Wow, how generous! LOL. Nothing to make up for the fact that they screwed up and jerked us around for 6 months. Now we need a new contractor, and price of materials has spiked.

From our 1st contact with Mike Fresch, the communication was excellent. We were replacing on old, existing deck. Mike met with us to go over design ideas, material choices and cost estimates. At our 1st meeting, Mike gave us a quote based on our choices/decisions that day. We were impressed to get the quote before he left our house. This had not happened with quotes from other companies. We did go through a few changes and settled on a final design and quote. We knew that it was going to be 3-4 months before construction was to begin. To be transparent, we started meeting with Mike in August 2020, signed the contract in October 2020 during COVID. At the 4 month mark, Mike emailed us with updates of construction timelines. We appreciated the updates. Delays were due to material shortages and weather. Again, great communication. When construction was to begin we got a text/phone call from the Project Manager, Greg Gossard, introducing himself and start date. Our existing deck needed to be removed. Jason was the “demo” guy. He was amazing! He tore down the entire deck and covered gazebo in 6 hours all by himself. He was one of the hardest working people we have ever seen. He hauled away everything and left no mess! They started on the deck the next day. Joey was our crew leader. When Joey arrived with his crew, he introduced himself and the others. Joey explained what they were planning to do that day. He said they would treat our yard and landscaping as if it was his own. Joey and his crew were very polite, extremely hardworking, neat and clean, personable and respectful of our property. He always let us know what they were doing including issues and how they would be resolved. They cleaned up at the end of each day. After the deck was complete, Greg the Project Manager, came over to check out the deck and we went over a few minor issues. All issues were resolved in a timely manner. Greg went over cleaning and maintenance of the deck and explained when the final touches would be complete; gutters and downspouts, gutter covers, final inspection and final power washing. If you are considering having a deck replaced or added to your home, you must consider Deck Masters. Mike Fresch, Greg Gossard, John Stark, Joey and crew, Jason, the demo guy, Barry, the gutter guy were all so professional, clean, neat, friendly, conscientious, helpful and very hardworking. We sought an estimate from this company and the experience was disappointing. We found them on-line because they were advertising a screened in porch special – 20ft X 12ft porch for $38,000. “Mike” came out to take measurements for an estimate of a porch plus a deck. His estimate for a 20ft X 14ft porch was $58,000; his estimate for a (roughly) 22ft X 16ft deck was $39,848. I called to ask why the porch, which was only 2 feet bigger than the special that was advertised was $20,000 more and if we could do something different to decrease the cost such as change the porch size or the materials. He told me no. And that right now, because there’s so much work, they can pretty do what they want and what they want to do is increase their profits on porches which are more involved than decks. I asked him if they would honor the “special” they had been advertising when we called them to come do the estimate. He said that their “website should be updated already.” But that doesn’t change the fact that they were advertising $38,000 for a 20ft X 12ft porch when we called- and there was no deadline for that price. Anyway, seems shady. They reeled us in with the advertised $38,000 porch price but then gave us an estimate where the porch was way more but the deck, which is, according to Mike, easier and more profitable, is $39,000. What a coincidence! Would not trust them. Glad we walked away.

I called Mike and we discussed a problem we were having with our deck. Another company built the deck 6 years ago and the railings were starting to collapse. The company would not honor their warranty and did not call us back after this. Mike agreed to come out and told us what was wrong with the deck. Even though he knew that they didn't repair decks, he showed us what was wrong and how to fix the problem. Mike was great, he didn't have to do this. He could have told us we needed a new deck and they would build it, but he didn't. He was honest with us. I wish we had hired Mike and Deck Masters six years ago; we wouldn't have the problems with the deck or the company that built it. Thank you, Steve and Shannon

The crew was very hardworking and polite. Neighbors were complimentary. It was a substantial job, and they got it done in very good time given the time of year, December, as there were a few bad weather days.

We are very pleased with the quality, craftsmanship and service we have had with DeckMasters. We recently had some wildlife damage part of the rebuilt deck, and DeckMasters came out and repaired the damage in a day. We are happy to recommend this company to anyone!

This project was completed with professionalism, speed and top quality workmanship. The old deck was removed in a single day and all the old decking completely removed from the property. Holes were dug on a Friday and the Gahanna building inspector was scheduled for the following Monday morning! The deck was completed on Thursday of the same week. John and Bill were excellent to work with. They were on time every day and they sought our input on a few decisions as they were building the deck. They left the work site clean and tidy at the end of each work day and when the holes were dug, they left them covered with plywood for safety. We had been told that our deck would be built sometime in July or August so we were pleasantly surprised when we got the call that the the guys would be coming the following week. Our deck was completed before the end of June, just in time for July 4th !! We would hire Deck Masters again in a minute to do another project for us. We would also request John and Bill, as they made the entire building process stress free and we got a great finished product. Thanks for such a pleasant deck building experience !

My wife and I cannot say enough about how pleased we are with Deck Master and the work and services they provided! Their responsiveness is outstanding, and professionalism is top notch. Mike Fresch sat with us and helped us come up with a creative design that we both love! I would highly recommend them if you are looking for a deck project or expansion!

The project went very well. ;The crew was professional, experienced, and communicated each step to ensure that we were getting what we wanted. I was impressed that they gladly did a number of small things that were not in the contract. They also tried their best to avoid damaging adjacent landscaping.WE love the final product.

It didn't go. They refused to give a written proposal stating what the sales rep verbally proposed.

Deck Masters were fantastic. Everything from the start of the project to the final touches went smoothly and super quick. The guys worked hard, showed up on time, answered all my questions and fixed anything that wasn't 100% perfect (which was barely anything). The Ohio weather predictably didn't cooperate at all but the guys worked through it. I had to call them back to nail down some boards that were missed due to the 2" of snow that hid those spots. They responded immediately and were here the next day. Absolutely recommend 100%.

Deck Masters did an incredible job, talk about top quality! What I really liked was how willing they were to help me make my custom vision come alive right down to the direction I wanted the boards running and the spacing of my privacy wall slats. When the city permit inspector came out to check my framing I noticed him really looking it over so I went out to ask if everything was okay he said "Absolutely, this thing is REALLY well built, I was just admiring it!". Hearing a guy whose job it is to inspect decks all day every day tell me my deck was one of the best built he had seen confirmed I picked the right company for the job! My family and I absolutely love our new deck, if you are looking for someone to build your deck I can wholeheartedly recommend Deck Masters, I know I wouldn't use any one else!

Crew was great and the quality of the workmanship was first rate. John, the company owner, stayed on top of things and made sure everything was right. Not the cheapest guys in town, but you get what you pay for.

Overall, Deck Masters showed up when they said they would, was fair on the payment policy and completed the work on schedule. They did not argue when I told them about the shape of the deck being wrong and they willingly tried to fix it. Overall, I would not recommend Deck Masters.

They were awesome! The nicest guys! They worked their ***** off for 13 hours straight to complete the entire job in 1 day. I am so pumped about our deck, it looks amazing!!

It went extremely well. They were punctual, communicative and did high quality work...even though we weren't home at the time the work was completed.

The house had different peaks so we wanted it to look like it was actually part of the house. They are absolutely wonderful.

We were not scheduled for about 8 weeks (It was the busy season). However, after only 3 weeks we were contacted by Mike who said they had an opening waiting for permits and they could get us in about a month early. We jumped at the chance and have not been disappointed. Jacob and Adam (the installers) arrived on time and were very professional as well. The project took 2 and 1/2 days. There had been a small misunderstanding on my part about the inclusion of bench backs, and after talking with Mike, he quickly added the bench backs to the estimate and work continued the following day. He was even amenable to a last minute change to the backing style the day of installation. Overall, we are very pleased with our deck. It looks amazing and the construction quality and attention to detail were top notch. I would highly recommend Deckmasters for any patio or decking needs.

Deckmasters staff from sales consultation through builders were all excellent. They were very easy to work with and approachable to answer any questions. Their price was reasonable, beating out some other estimates. Thry gave me an 8-12 week lead time and started building at week 13, however this was during winter which is obviously the time of year with unpredictable weather delays. This was a non issue for us. The builders did quality work and i was thoroughly impressed with how fast they completed the job, one day working through rain most of the day. Im very happy with the finished product, looks beautiful.

Deckmasters did a great job with the project. I was nervous that it wouldn't turn out exactly like I imagined but it beat my expectations for sure! The crew cleaned up everyday, they were professional and very accommodating. I was impressed with the wood work and the attention to detail. The yard was left in good condition and they finished up all loose ends before final payment. I would definitely use them again and I would highly recommend them.

They did a great job. Even when unexpected things came up, Shannon, our project manager, and his team handled it wonderfully. Communication was great and the whole team was punctual, even driving all the way to Cincinnati from Westerville every day for over a week. It's without a doubt the sturdiest deck I've ever stood on in my life. I wish I liked the rest of my house as much as this deck. They even went to far with details as to have cedar rails with the pine base, providing a little contrast and the awesome smell of cedar every time you walk out of my house. They went above and beyond.

Awful! Contract signed in summer with work to be completed in October or November. Not finished till late January! Backyard a mess from mud secondary to deck not being done in a timely fashion. Poor communication all the way around.
