The process was simple and easy. Rob and his crew showed up every day at the time they said they would and cleaned up every day before they left. I was impressed with the speed at which they performed their work. I took off work to watch the work get done. Job went as well as to be expected. Great Job overall. A neighbor a few doors down also used them a few years ago to do close to the same work.
Description of Work: We had water entering our basement in mutiple areas accompanied by wall discloration. We had agreed to have thier Water-guard interior solution placed along our inside walls with a Sump pump. They also put up a wall covering to stop the moisture from coming in.

The men came at the appointed time. Promptly! Respected the fact that I have two indoor cats that could not get outside. Came in with identification in a company truck. Got right to work in a professional way. They knew what they were doing! I tend to ask questions and was answered with respect when I didn't understand something. When I decide to get the rest of the basement done I am definitely going to call Ohio Basement Systems again.
Description of Work: Thoroughly inspected my basement for cracks, leaks, any other problems. I had been noticing puddles of water on one side of the basement. I called, he came when it was convenient for me (very important as I can't miss work). He explained exactly what his company could do for me. Told me it would be better in the long run to have the entire basement waterproofed; but did indicate what was essential to be done right away,

We were adding an addition and saw we had to have this seeping fixed. Came out the next day to do an estimate. Explained in detail what needed done. Made us very at ease with this project. Even gave some suggestions to help us finish our basement. The team showed when promised, kept the area very neat and clean. Put the landscape back as it was. Now we have a dry useable family room in our basement. I would recommend them to everyone!

He took his time to explain everything that needed done and how it was to be repaired and the type of material that was to be used. Also showed us videos of the pumps that was to be used. Showed us other comparable items as well. Told us of the extras they could do to help with the basement apartment. And solve other problems as well. He was very polite, articulate, professional, punctual. He answered all of our questions, even when we would ask over and over. After we had all the information we needed he (Dan Ringer) left and went to the office. Then worked up a draft of everything they was going to do, the price, and a contract, and then emailed all that information to us the very same day. Would also like to add he included a 19% discount in the estimate. Now for the sad part for Ohio Basements Systems, the next day many friends and family stepped up and said they would do it all. They are all in different types of businesses but put them all together they can get the job done for a lot less money. Had it not be for my friends and family I was going to hire Ohio Basement Systems. I was very happy with them.

It's also called Today's Home Solutions. I will use them again. The person who gave me the estimate and evaluated the situation was Dan Ringer and he was very professional, prompt and explained the situation very well to me. He always returned my calls the same day. He also tried to get my job done earlier than planned because I was selling the house. I was not present for the actual job but after completion everything was cleaned up and orderly. When the house went up for sale in January of 2016 Dan Ringer also was very helpful. He was willing to talk to any prospective buyer that needed additional information on what was done to the house. I very much appreciated him backing up his work. Dan also met with a buyer who had bid on the house and spent over 2 hours doing a complete evaluation of any additional structure problems. He also explained in detail what had been done and what still needed to be done in order for the house to be safe. He was extremely professional and patient.

We'd just recently moved into our home, and right off the bat our basement flooded several times. We contacted a few companies to see what our options were, and got varying results. Ohio Basement Systems sent out a consultant to take a look at our issues, and they recommended an interior WaterGuard solution along the crawl space and the basement. We decided to go with them. Even though the solution was expensive, avoiding a moldy basement that could have a negative impact on our 2 year old daughter's (and our entire family's) health was worth it to us. Once the install crew arrived, they began their work and the foreman noticed that the source of flooding had come from an additional location that was not picked up during the initial visit. Obviously, knowing this was a very expensive solution to install and was a very significant investment for a family who had just moved, I contacted the office to discuss it, and the folks at Ohio Basement Systems ended up sending out a crew to fix this additional issue at no charge so that we didn't need to worry about future flooding. They kept in touch with me the entire time to make sure this additional work was performed timely and done to our expectations. I've dealt with a lot of companies since moving in, and I appreciated them standing by their work and doing everything they could to make sure we had nothing to worry about. This is what differentiates a company from a great company. Our move has been a stressful one, but the effort put forth by Ohio Basement Systems to take care of our water issues has put our minds at ease where our basement is concerned. It's tough to find people these days who will do a good job and stand by their work, but if you're looking for a company that will, my experience with Ohio Basement Systems says they will. Thank you guys.

We are sorry this customer felt that we were too slow to respond to her. The inspector had to contact the general manager who was out of town for the weekend. He went to her house on a Friday evening and could not talk to the G.M. until Monday morning. As soon as he spoke to the G.M. and went over the scope of work involved, he called her and let her know that the work that needed done was not feasible for our company to complete for her, in a professional manner. Once again sorry for any confusion on our part and we wish the best of luck for this customer to find someone that can salvage her porch.

The sales rep showed up on time and was professional until it came time to "close" the sale. After that all it was a HARD push to sign so I could receive the special VIP discount. The salesman repeated over and over assurances that were NOT on the document he wanted me to sign. I was also told that once he left he couldn't promise that I would receive the discount and that it was only good if I signed right then on the spot. It go to the point that I told him I didn't care if he was $4000.00 cheaper than the next contractor I would never use him. The whole approach was hard sell and just gave me the feeling that I was dealing with the stereotypical home improvement salesman and not a group of professionals. The end result was I went with one of their competitors. The competitors price was $2300.00 less and that includes what I would have "saved" had I accepted their VIP discount.
Description of Work: They did nothing but apply the hardest pressure sale I've ever experienced. Approximate cost of service of $8500.00.

While the sales pitch was informative and broken down step by step, at the end of the day the item being sold to me was not the appropriate solution to my leaking basement. I had had water leaking into my basement for a couple weeks and needed some ideas and estimates on possible solutions to resolving the issue. While the salesman did walk around the exterior, there was no in depth analysis completed to determine the source of my basement leak. At the end of the presentation, I wanted a chance to review what I had just went over and I was quite glad that I did not make any commitment. Since I live in a condo, the management association sent out their contractor the following week to determine the source of the leaks. This contractor was actually crawling on his hands and knees around my foundation - which allowed him to find the crack in my foundation that was allowing the water to get into my basement. The salesman for Ohio Basement Systems had a great sales pitch. But, unfortunately, it was just that, a sales pitch. Sure the sump pump installation would have kept the water away, but, my foundation would have only continued to deteriorate since the actual cause of the leak would not have been addressed. They are more concerned about sales than actually helping resolve basement issues.

We are very sorry that this customer feels this way about what our inspector has evaluated. We reviewed the proposal, pictures, had an in depth meeting with the inspector and are standing by his results. Her basement is wet and leaking from where the basement floor and wall meet on the interior of the basement in a couple of different areas. One crack will not allow water to leak in different areas. That is a direct result from the exterior footer tile not draining away water as it should. Our inspector took numerous pictures that do not show any cracks on the interior of the basement that would be a direct result of a crack leaking. He did see a small stress crack in the parging on the home but no matching crack in the block, which is what would let water enter the foundation and bypass the footer and come up through the floor. We have products that fix leaking cracks and this house does not have that problem. We are experts in this field and this is all we do. We would never tell a customer they need something they don’t. I advise this customer to have other Waterproofing companies come to her home to inspect it and get their opinion before deciding on a solution. The pictures do show typical signs of a failing footer drain. We do not want this customer to think that simply sealing a crack that is going to fix the problem. Even if she doesn’t choose us to do the work, we feel strongly that she is not getting the right solution. Please feel free to contact us if you would like to see any of the pictures. We do not have a “sales pitch” as this person states. Simply put: We come out, inspect, diagnose, and then give the customer choices on what method they want to choose to fix the problem. We do all of the methods approved by the building code, so we do what the customer wants. I do hope that this customer gets the results she is looking for and we wish her the best.

They sealed the crawl space, while doing so they also sealed up a water pipe. That water pipe froze. I called the company and asked them to come unseal. They did send a representative but they didn't do anything. I had to cut into the seal to get to the pipe to unfreeze it. During this process my house caught on fire and burned down. I called the company and they said they could not be held responsible for my house burning down. They are responsible however for the pipe freezing. Had they not sealed it off it would not have froze. I asked for a refund of the job they preformed and they have not given me this. They told me no way that is going to happen. They blame the pipe freezing on the cold winter.

First off, we are very sorry for this customer’s losses and have heavy hearts for what he and his family are going through. The facts surrounding this though are very clear. Our system seals the crawlspace and is a very great vapor barrier and does provide some insulation. When Mr. [member name removed] called us about a frozen pipe it was on the coldest day Cleveland has seen in 50 years. The temperature that day was, in areas, in excess of -20 below zero. He called and we did send out one of our technicians to his home, the same day, to try and help out the best we could. Our technician found the frozen pipe that was not covered up, as stated, and let Mr. [member name removed] know exactly where the pipe was. He took photos of the exposed pipe and told Mr. [member name removed] if he had to remove any of the product or if anything got damaged, we would comeback out and double check the job and reseal things if necessary. Our technician even pointed out to Mr. [member name removed] that there was an old abandoned furnace down there that he would like to touch up because of a rodent issue. Our technician told him that he needs to get it thawed out and that we could not do it because that is not our field of expertise. He advised Mr. [member name removed] to call a licensed plumber. We did offer to double check the job for him and see if there was anything else that we could do for him and even offered to come back and do some extra things free of charge. Mr. [member name removed] has an unheated crawlspace, the system worked great for Mr. [member name removed] under normal conditions and wasn’t a problem until the temperatures dropped to abnormal Arctic levels. The CleanSpace System does not create heat, it is a vapor barrier that will help with mold, mildew, dampness, humidity and odors. If the crawlspace would have been heated, the system would have kept that extra heat in and this would not have happened. All freezers and refrigerators are sealed and insulated, you need to have a heat source if the goal is to keep things from freezing. Per our recorded phone call, Mr. [member name removed] admits to using a propane torch in efforts to thaw it. He says, in this call, that he noticed it “steaming” when he ran out of propane and left to go get more. We are very sorry for his loss but we cannot take responsibility for this, but we do offer that if the house gets repaired, we will re-do the crawlspace encapsulation for him, free of charge, in acts of being a company that truly cares about our customers.

I was very pleased with them. We had an excellent experience with them. There was a crew of three men. The foreman knew what he was doing. He explained everything to us. He really took care of the job. It was hard work. It was already cold. They did it all by hand, because we live in a condominium. It's just one front wall. They were fantastic from the beginning to the end, as far as clean-up and taking care of shrubbery that fell down. It was excellent.

Right before winter came, they were able to get it done. One of the things I ask these companies is that whoever the supervisor is, I want them to show up at least one or three times and they did. They showed up and I did have some concerns and they addressed the concerns I had as they were going along. The young guy that was with them supervising the team, he was very receptive, because I am a very curious person and I wanted to learn, how they were doing, what they were doing, and what they found. So when I went out and asked them questions, he always turned around and answered my questions and it was a mining situation for me. So that was an education for me. They think they repaired it well and it was a three man team. They were very efficient and they listened to everything the supervisor told them in order to go in the right direction. I had looked up another company and their quote was much more than what this company quoted me, so the price was good.
Description of Work: They did foundation repair. They had to dig in the foundation to put in helical piers. They put three around the foundation but since the winter was coming quick, they left all of the dirt that they dug up and left it sitting it on that wall as if it was going to take six months to settle while it is still sitting there and I am hoping that in the spring, it will get settled. They had to dig up a cement walkway back there and they left there too. They came back out this Spring and leveled the dirt that they'd put down. I'm very happy their work.

I was having trouble finding someone to build a short wall around the footer of a 3 season type room. It was sort of a tricky job (in my opinion) because to put in the wall, you would have to tie into a partial existing wall and also tear out/correct some previous construction work. When I saw that Ohio Basement Systems had expertise in crawl spaces gave them a call and had them come out to give me an estimate. Note that I did not comment on the price as it was hard to get a comparison but I thought their quote was fair given the work to be done. The price they quoted was the final price once the work was done.....no surprises. It was a multistep process with Ohio Basement systems personnel to ensure the job was spec'd out for what I wanted to do. First a Field supervisor came out to get a general idea regarding what needed to be done. He took measurements and pictures and then consulted with his engineer before giving me a quote. The next step after we received a quote and agreed to proceed was that work crew foreman (Dave) came out and again checked the work to be done based on the quote in order to make sure they had the right materials and manpower when the crew came out to do the work. Both times the supervisor and the foreman took time to go over what I wanted done and answer any questions. A three man crew did the actual work in two days starting just before Christmas and ending the day after. The guys (Dave, Joe, Mike) were all very courteous and professional. They again took the time to make sure all knew exactly what work was to be done. My yard tends to be wet and soggy and they put down plywood and boards to avoid getting everything muddy and putting ruts in the grass from walking back and forth. They cleaned up each of the two days they were here to do the job. (they probably left the area in better shape than it was when they started.) They were very efficient with their time at the job and did the insulation simultaneously with building the wall. At the end of the job, the foreman again explained all that they had done and we walked around the job site to make sure I was satisfied with both the work and the way they cleaned up. Great job! had

The sales rep did a good job letting us know what needed to be done, and what they could do for us, and at what price. He gave us several options, and did not try to "upsell" us. Their quote was about 1/4 of the other company that came in to give us an estimate. We were somewhat disappointed that the salesman led us to believe that they could perform the work within a few weeks of their estimate, but when we called to schedule, it was several months before they could fit us in. They did show up on the scheduled date, and the workers and their supervisor Jermain were excellent. They were very careful about keeping the house clean, and cleaned up after themselves each day. They initially thought the job would be just two days, but there were some employee illnesses which delayed things by two days. Jermain also realized, after initial excavation, that the outside work originally planned to correct a basement dampness issue was not really what was needed, and he corrected the problem by fixing a downspout drain for the same price as originally quoted. All in all, we would not hesitate to recommend this same crew to our friends. We were also somewhat surprised that the sales rep does not follow up with the client after the job was finished, and only contacts the client if there is a problem. I would think that they would want to personally inspect the job to be able to verify that the job was done according to his specs.

It went well, the person that came out to give me the estimate was very knowledgeable, professional, thorough and on time. The supervisor of the time was here every minute and worked alongside with them. He was professional and willing to answer questions, he would work along them and even stop to answer my question if I had one. Was very respectful to my lawn and did a good job with clean up. Gave enough instructions on how to handle it, it needs at least 6 months to settle. They said that if there is anything I need to give them a call. Honest, high integrity, business and customer oriented. I am from a generation where work ethic is so important. This company had a full understanding on what work ethic meant. They focused on this one job and this job alone until it was completed in a timely manner.

The company rescheduled the appointment twice. Three men arrived, went in and out of the house never closed the front door. The work was performed, since I could not be home my brother-in -law was there. He had to ask them to make the job look a little more professional, and to do a better job of cleaning up. Before they would leave he had to sign a paper that the owners were 100% satisfied, they refused to leave until it was signed. I wish I could share pictures I just hope crack doesn't leak when it rains.

My message to this company stated that we needed a wall lifted to replace a bad sill plate. The rep - Clint or Cliff - came out at the appointed time. After looking in our crawl space, he told me that our foundation was bowed and that we'd need to dig up around the house and put in piers. After asking about the sill plate since he never mentioned it, he wanted to look around the house. After several minutes, he came back in, said he just got off the phone with his boss and said "Yeah, you have the deck and the pool and we don't do seal plates". He then packed up his equipment and without so much as a goodbye, left. I was expecting him to come back in to discuss the issue. They get an F for knowing that we had a sill plate issue from the beginning then saying they don't do "seal plate" work, telling me our foundation is bowed (which it most definitely is not per other contractors), the lack of professionalism and wasting my time.

Response from Ohio Basement Authority
We are very sorry that we could not meet this customer’s expectations. When Clint arrived at her home, after introducing himself, he was pointed to a hole in the floor and was told “there you go”. He did an inspection and tried to let [member name removed] know that she had a bigger foundation problem than she thought, including a cracking, sinking, failing foundation and water problems. He explained that simply replacing the sill plate would not fix the issue. As experts in this field it is our responsibility to let people know what is going on in their homes if we discover something during our inspection. We have engineers and geologists on staff as well as employees that have been here for many years to figure out any issue with any home. He was trying to let this customer know that we wouldn’t just fix the sill plate, because that is not the proper fix. We understand she just wanted the sill plate replaced, but if that’s not the proper fix, then we are not going to do it. Our company offers a long term national warranty on products and services that solve problems. He asked her if she wanted a proposal for the work he felt needed to be done. It was [member name removed] that indicated that she did not. Clint did leave as quickly as possible, politely, because he was muddy mess from her crawlspace and did not want to stand inside of the house spreading the mess around. Clint even went so far as to contact the management staff from this house to discuss how to best handle this situation. This issue will be discussed at our next training meeting to determine how we could have handled it better. We would like to thank [member name removed] for taking the time to bring her thoughts to our attention. Mike & Gayle Rusk
