When I called, I got an appt. three days out, but they were able to move it up one day due to a cancellation. The serviceman was polite and professional. The dishwasher would have cost 50% more to repair than to replace so we did not have work done.

The technician pulled the mother board and showed me the circuit that burned out. Thankfully he had a new mother board in the truck and within a few minutes we were back in operation. I was very impressed with the depth of knowledge and willingness to explain the details of my service call and how to proceed after the frig has some time to cool off. Also I felt in great hands as the technician was none other than the owner of the company! THANK YOU DAVE AND COMPANY!!!! I WILL DEFINITELY CALL ON YOUR SERVICES IN THE FUTURE.

Service tech was very honest in saying the repair would cost more than replacing the unit. He was very helpful in suggesting a brand and type from the service end as far as dependability and affordability. Basic comments such as "sales people are just that, -people who want to make a sale as well as a commission- I service the item and I see what is dependable and what I would put in my own home." Those are the little things that make me trust a person and feel as if I am part of their "family" and I value that.

At first the problem seemed to be the sensor. It was ordered and when the service tech installed it, the oven still wasn't working properly. It was determined that it was the digital panel that was malfunctioning. GE no longer made the parts for my 20-year-old oven, but Dave Smith Appliance offered to try to repair the panel, but would have to look for parts. The estimate for doing that was more than the oven was worth. I appreciated the repair tech's honesty and advice. This is the fourth time this year that Dave Smith Appliance has been to my home to fix various appliances. I have found their service techs to be friendly and trustworthy. I will use them again and highly recommend this company.

Often the sign of a good company is not what they do when everything goes right but what they do when a problem or some other wrench gets thrown into the mix. This is an example of where they did their best to fix a situation that had gone wrong.This repair was done at a summer rental cottage and because there were guests at the cottage we neeeded it repaired quickly and with as little inconvenience to the guests as possible. 1.) I called on Friday to ask for service. They said Tuesday was their day for my area, but they would not have a time until Monday. 2.) Monday a 2 pm I called to find out the time for service because no one had called me as they had lead me to believe and as I needed to drive 1 hour to meet them at the cottage. They told me they would call back between 5-7 with the time. They never called. 3.) At 11 am I left for the cottage and called to find out the time and they told me my appointment had been moved back to different day. I explained that this was not what I was told or lead to believe and that they never indicated that I was not getting service on the discussed on 2 previous occasions. 4.) There is more to this story about me giving lock access codes, appliance serial numbers and credit card info - just to expedite the repair. But the issue is more about recovery when a problem developed. This is where it is important to say that they did everything they could to get a tech to the home and no longer disappoint a customer. It took until 4:45 ish for the tech to arrive but he did arrive and that is what I needed. I would recommend them because a store I trust recommends them. I would recommend them because a consumer in the area said she knows people that use them and are happy with their work. I would recommend them because during all of the conversations they seemed as disappointed as I was at the failures to get it scheduled correctly and they don't operate this way normally. Once it did happen they made every effort to correct what happened and turn a negative into a resolution. Things happen, it's what you do when they do happen that sets one company apart from another.

Arrived on time , was very professional. He was not that familiar with the details of Thermador( microwave, warming draw, and range) single built in unit. But he was able to figure it out and make the repair. I would rate his job as very good could of been excellent if he was more familiar with what I consider to be a higher end appliance. I would use this company again and I am happy with the service.

The icemaker on our refrigerator was not working properly. Richard was prompt in arriving and repaired the ice maker. He was cordial and explained to my wife what the problem was and what they would do to fix it. It has worked fine since the repair.

It went great! Michele jumped through hoops to get a repair person out in the only time I had available that week which happened to be the day after I called them. She knew I was distressed about losing 4 dozen recently made jars of strawberry freezer jam. The repair person, Nick, was right on time. He looked it over carefully then gave me an estimate for repairs. Since the estimate was about half the cost of a refrigerator and this one (GE) was nearly 7 years old, we went ahead and purchased a new one (Maytag) rather than repair. Nick was well prepared, attentive, and answered all my questions. I would definitely call them again!
Description of Work: Checked why freezer section of side-by-side was no longer keeping foods frozen at any setting below maximum. Gave me an estimate to get a sealed system leak repaired.

On July 4th, my washing machine wouldn't spin out while doing laundry. I called Dave Smith Appliance on July 5 at 9:00. They arrived about 2:00. (They had a cancellation). The washer was fixed by 3:00. I will always call them. Very fast service. Very polite tech named Nick.
Description of Work: My washing machine wouldn't spin out. They fixed the lid switch. I requested he change all belts and level while he was here.

I phoned company and requested service. When the repairman arrived he looked at refrigerator and told me i needed to leave it open for at least 24 hours before he could repair it. We had to wait until the ice melted. I was disappointed that the co. did not inform me of this when I scheduled the appointment. My refrigerator had not been working for a couple of days before i called repair person. I had to wait additional day for repair. When he arrived the next time to repair it, he repaired it quickly and it has worked very well since.

Generally, refrigerators have to be kept plugged in and running before we arrive to determine the CAUSE of the failure. If your refrigerator was turned off before our arrival, proper diagnosis would have been either more difficult or impossible, as the frost would have been gone. How frost accumulates (frost patterns) aids us in proper and accurate diagnosis of your problem. We could not even have known ahead of time that you even had a defrost problem at all. Usually WE can defrost your refrigerator while we are there and get it fixed immediately; however, in your case the ice and frost build up was very severe, as it was an ongoing problem for a while before you called us for service. With heavy ice accumulation, forcing the repair could result in permanent damage to your refrigerator as parts are generally plastic and styrofoam (and frozen at that). Going forward, be sure to call us IMMEDIATELY as soon as you know there is trouble to speed up the repair process.

Within 36 hours the repairman was here to analyze the problem. He emptied the tub and discovered the cause of the problem: a down filled pillow leaked filling which clogged the water filter and pump mechanism. No parts were needed. Technician flushed the entire filtration system several times of all of the debris causing the problem. Excellent professional technician.

Technician was prompt and professional. Because of the age of the dryer and cost of needed repairs I will just purchase a new dryer when the current dryer malfunctions again. Until then the dryer is working and actually better than before!
Description of Work: Start button on my electric dryer was not starting the dryer. Technician checked it out, pulled the back off the dryer and cleaned out a lot of lint. Was able to get the dryer running again. However advised there were no guarantees on how much longer the dryer would function. Diagnosed probable bad motor and gave me an estimate on cost to replace bad motor and belt if dryer were to malfunction again.

He charged me for the service call and said the part would be about $400 to fix it. I told him I wanted to think about it and discuss it with my husband. I was able to find the part online for much cheaper, so we were going to do it ourselves. Through my research, I found that my machine was actually recalled and we were able to get it repaired for free, which I took advantage of. I would have liked to have been told this initially by Dave and have him keep up on industry standards by Whirlpool.

There are multiple errors in your comments. We are Factory Authorized Servicers for Whirlpool and as such we keep current on product updates and recalls – there is NO recall on your machine. Please check Whirlpool.com and you won’t find one. You may have had your repair done for you under a concession, which is a consumer complaint driven event that we have no control over and cannot initiate in any way. I would have been more than happy to have repaired your machine as a Whirlpool Factory Servicer if it was within our power to do so. I belong to several trade associations and I am actively involved in not only keeping up with industry standards, but working hard to surpass and elevate these standards. Your comment that I do not keep up with the industry is not true and I take that very personally. Finally, the $400.00 repair quote was for the entire repair and included parts, labor, service call, tax, and freight and is not only the part (as you stated). This is an electronics failure and an expensive repair, and after investigating further found that my technician quoted you fairly. I did contact Whirlpool directly and personally, I confirmed not only that there were no recalls or policies that I was unaware of, but also my pricing on your repair was reasonable. Dave Smith Appliance Services LLC said the refrigerator was not repairable, and he showed us why. He was extremely thorough and timely. He was very professional. The refrigerator was not worth saving. He could have told us otherwise, he was very honest. There was a service charge, which we knew ahead of time. We thought the refrigerator wasn't worth saving, but we wanted to make sure, so it was worth having somebody come out and give it a thorough look over. I am recommending him.

They sent a guy out right away. He was on time and very nice. He asked questions about what was wrong and then told me what it probably was. He fixed the problem and explained what he did. Since no new parts were needed, he only charged me for a service call. I was very pleased with how professional he was and how painless the experience was. I highly recommend Dave Smith Appliance Service. I will not hesitate to use them again when needed.

I was very happy with the service. Seemed ridiculous to fix a microwave for such a huge cost, especially since the unit was 12 years old but could not find another microwave to fit into the brick wall! The technician was very honest and explained that the part was very expensive and quite understood if we just wanted to buy a new one. The charge for the evaluation was $65.00 (approx.). We decided to fix the unit and hope it lasts another 12 years!
Description of Work: Initial evaluation of problem. Part ordered and installed a few days later. Follow up call due to noise problem. This was fixed at no charge. The problem was the heating element.

The technician determined that the thermostat and the top heating element in the stove were both broken. To order the parts (this was a 25-year old stove) would have been around $500, so we decided to buy a new stove, which turned out to be less than the parts would have been.

My refrigerator was not cooling and the freeze part was frosting up. He came when they said. I got a call saying the tech was on his way. He told me what was wrong and helped me unload the freezer so he could remove the old part and put in a new one. He quoted me a price before he began the work. The work was done quickly and his service call was more reasonable than others. I woul;d definitely use this service again.

I found my front-loading washer was filling itself. Since I leave the door open to the washer, the water was just filling up to the door and then pouring out the door. Since my washer in in the basement and near the floor drain, there wasn't a catastrophe, thank goodness. Did a little research on the internet and found that I was probably going to need a new dispenser inlet valve. Called Dave Smith, described the problem and presented my research, they asked me the model number and other info of the washer, and they scheduled me the next day, saying that they'd try to get the part. I was concerned about having to pay for two service calls: one to diagnose the problem, then another one to bring out the part and install it. When they came out, they said that I was correct in my diagnosis of the rather-uncommon problem, and, because of the Thanksgiving holiday and because there was no part available in town, they'd make another call but not charge me the service call for that visit. They were true to their word. They installed the new part and all is well--with only one service charge. I've used this company for three services, and, each time, I have found them to be honest and straight-forward, clean, punctual. He also repaired a valve on my Springfield Township hot water heater. If I lived in Toledo, he wouldn't have been able to perform this repair, due to Toledo's restrictions on who can work on hot-water heaters. I felt lucky that he could do the work for me. I gave them a "B" on price. That is, of course, because everyone feels that service companies charge too much. The repair cost about 1/3 what I paid for the washer six years ago. Life goes on, and I will call Dave Smith Appliance in the future.
Description of Work: Dave Smith Appliance Repair replaced the dispenser inlet valve on my 6 year old Frigidaire Affinity front loading washer. He also replaced a valve on my 2 year old 40 gallon hot-water heater, which is located outside the city of Toledo (see below).

In addition to this, we work very hard at attempting to repair your product on the first trip; it is more convenient for you and also lowers our costs. There are many costs involved in a service call to your home and they begin long before the technician rings your doorbell. Travel time, office expenses, wages, phones, insurance, gas and truck, etc. There are too many to mention them all here. The service call charge barely covers our costs, so a first time completed repair is our goal. We stock most fast moving parts on our trucks, and we bring more when available. However it is still sometimes necessary to order a part. In those cases, there is never an additional service call charge for the return trip. We will only charge for the parts, shipping and labor on the return trip. We can also service most other appliances while we are here today at a reduced cost. We use the regional industry standard flat rate guide for pricing. However, due to some efficiency and expertise on our part, we are able to price some of the job rates as much as 10 – 20% off the Blue Book!
