Thomas came to fix our refrigerator because the one side door would not stay sealed and shut correctly. He knew right away what it was. He then ordered the parts needed. It did take a couple weeks buts I'm happy overall. He was a pleasant man to deal with and very professional. A+ oh BTW. Everything was covered under the warranty I had.

Every once in awhile you encounter a service business that combines the qualities of professionalism, honesty, punctuality, knowledge, and outstanding customer service--and Dave Smith Appliance is one of those businesses. We have had a few problems with our new Whirlpool refrigerator, and Dave Smith's company has addressed each of these issues with: a) quick response to email inquiries--often answered by the owner himself; b) service appointments scheduled promptly; c) skilled, well trained technicians who properly diagnoses and resolve problems. Example 1: One technician determined from his research that even though my refrigerator had been recently built, the company had already updated its control box; thus he ordered one under warranty for installation. Example 2: I emailed Dave (owner) to ask whether the cold spot in the top center of my refrigerator (which was freezing vinegar and water bottles) was expectable since the air control valve was there. Most repair shops would have said "yes" to avoid a warranty service call. However, Dave was most concerned with making sure that everything was just right, and said that he would be glad to send a technician out. In sum, I highly recommend Dave Smith Appliance Services.

It went fine. Technician knew what he was doing (Michael) and installed a new ice maker in our 12 year old refrigerator. It wasn't inexpensive, but the service, promptness, and professionalism were top notch. I would definitely use again.

Very good experience. Called on Tuesday and they were able to schedule appointment around my schedule for the next day. Technician Mike was friendly, professional, and quick. He was able to diagnose the problem and recommend the right repair. Since my dishwasher was 15 years old and the parts for repair would’ve been pricey, decided to just replace. Very happy with the service call, though.

Came out on time. He said motor was tied up, might eventually need new motor, but should be good for awhile. Told me to use it more and get some vinegar to run through it, I did get vinegar. the same day he was at my house, I tried to use it and it was exactly the same as it was before I called. i called them on the next day they were open I was told that the Repairman had in his notes that he had only given me a repair estimate.

Please call me to discuss as i am not sure what your complaint is. We sent a technician to your home very quickly, he diagnosed the problem, and gave you a quote to repair your product properly. Your repair required parts, specifically the motor that we would have to order and the repair was somewhat expensive.. You had declined to do the proper repair. Our technician spent considerable time diagnosing and he did get your dishwasher to work temporarily, This was NOT a repair nor was it ever intended to be a repair. We had only charged you the service call. We would be more than happy to repair your dishwasher! Simply approve the quote you were given at time of service. I can assure you the technician you had is a great guy, hard working, dedicated and lives customer service. I am sorry you took my technician'[Member Information Removed] attempt to get you going until repairs are made as poor service. He was very disappointed you left an unfavorable complaint unfairly. I can also assure you his professionalism is unquestionable.

The service technician, Mike, came out within the specified window of time to repair my dryer which stops providing heat intermittently on all of the cycles that have heat, one cycle at a time. He asked me what was wrong with the dryer and then proceeded to roll his eyes multiple times when I was explaining. He spoke to me using a tone of voice that implied I was an idiot. He did not listen when I told him what was wrong with the dryer and then accused me of lying to him. When I again attempted to explain to him what was wrong, he rolled his eyes and said that it is working fine right now. I explained to him that is does for a while, sometimes several loads but he insisted the vent was the problem, stating it was clogged with lint. We have checked it multiple times for this ongoing problem and there is minimal lint if any in it. He also did not listen when I told him how we are able to get it to work for a few days which may indicate what the problem is. Thankfully my dryer is under warranty and I did not have to pay a service call for the rude and behavior and lack of work done. Mike became verbally aggressive and had an aggressive stance when I told him that he did not listen when I originally explained the problem and then again when I told him he had to leave.
Description of Work: Nothing...absolutely nothing except treat me like an idiot. He was supposed to repair my electric dryer.

We hired Dave Smiths Appliance due to the extensive A+ reviews, and were incredibly disappointed and the decision cost us a lot of money. We had a 5 year old Kenmore front loading washer that was having an intermittent ?UE? code, which was keeping our spin cycle from getting enough speed to drain the water from the clothes. The ?UE? code indicates unbalanced load, which is read by the load sensing technology of this unit. Dave?s sent a technician out, who ran an empty cycle and could not get it to error (which we feel was not a useful way to test the load sensing function since there was no load to sense), and he left. It malfunctioned again, so the same technician came out again and this time ran a cycle with clothes, which did trigger the error. At this point he gave a broad diagnosis that it was either the circuit board or motor, but didn?t seem sure which one it was, and gave an estimate for replacements. My husband had said from the beginning that he thought it was just a sensor, so we were hesitant to pay such a high cost for replacement of major parts that may not be bad. So, we waited and a few days later it malfunctioned again, but this time gave a new code ?LE? so we called them back. A new technician arrived, we told him what the new error code was, he was not familiar with it, and he started disassembling the machine. While I was in the other room, I heard a very, very loud banging (on metal); my husband could even hear it from where he was in the basement. About 5 minutes later the technician came out and told me that I would be out shopping on Black Friday for a new washer because the problem was bad bearings, and the cost would equal just getting a new washer. Well, bad bearings make a distinct rumbling sound which our washer never displayed for us, or for the previous technician so we were totally puzzled. We decided to call a Sears technician out for a second opinion. A week later he arrived and within minutes told us that he could not even test the machine because there was a bolt missing from the basket. He proceeded to get our credit card info, order the $6 bolt and reschedule to come out after the bolt came in. He returned a week later with the bolt and within minutes he discovered that the bolt was not actually missing, but in fact, broken off (lets recall that very loud banging that Dave?s technician was making). At this point, he said it will be at least $275 to replace the basket, not including labor, just to fix what was now broken before he could even begin to diagnose the original problem. So he left, I called the parts department at Sears, gave the phone rep the ?LE? error code, which she looked up on her computer and within minutes told me it was ?washer rotor motor position sensor? and that it would cost us $27. Really? Well now we had a washer that Dave?s technician probably accidently broke, decided not to tell us, and we were stuck with the bill. SO, my husband called and talked to Dave himself, said we were not looking to get money but wanted him to know what transpired. Dave was agitated, stated that his technicians are highly skilled and that we must be in the wrong. He said he would pick up the washer, figure out what was wrong with it in order to further prove us wrong. He picked it up the following day?that was nearly 4 months ago, we have not heard anything from them since. The technicians were very nice, but Kenmore doesn?t even publish the schematics for these new machines and that makes these technicians less capable of fixing them. Needless to say, we now have a top loading speed queen, made in the USA and love it.

As this seems to be mainly a communication issue I will explain fully. First thank you for acknowledging that we have extensive A+ reviews, as yes most of our customers are extremely happy with the good service we always do our best to provide. We further survey our customers and found that 98 percent of our customers are satisfied and 93.5 percent are VERY satisfied. I think this is an excellent record considering that we run over 200 calls per week. Those 2 percent not COMPLETELY satisfied we will identify to find out why. In these cases it is usually a communication issue, or we made a mistake somehow. We try to identify these because if we make a mistake, I want to know and have an opportunity to correct it. We want customers for life. We are not perfect. Even we make mistakes as hard as we try not to. We do what we can to make things right. We will apologize if we made a scheduling mistake, we will go back and repair it properly if not done right, and we have a great warranty. What makes a company great in my opinion is taking care of the customer when things go wrong. In your case however, I sincerely believe that we made no error and it seems we cannot communicate it with you for whatever reason… and not for lack of trying. I would rather not repeat again publicly, but I have no other option at this point. First. We booked your call as a second opinion as either another servicer or yourselves attempted to repair the product and could not figure it out. Machine experienced a “UE” code as you said. You are incorrect (again) in your diagnosis it is not a “slow speed” code it. DuShon was our first technician to your home and after extensive troubleshooting and attempts to duplicate the problem he could not. As you stated this is a very intermittent problem and will work for weeks between failures. He accessed the OBD (on board diagnostics) and found no other fault codes stored in the computer, he ran a system check and everything checked normally (the system is designed to test without a load, and in fact MUST be run without a load). The fault code you indicated is an out of balance load error. As we found no problem, DuShon continued to go over proper loading and detergent use in case there might be an issue there, and instructed you to monitor. There are many causes of this failure including improper loading, control boards, sensors, etc. At this point we are not going to guess or “shotgun” the problem causing you to possibly waste money on parts you may not need, especially if there was a possibility you may not need any. (Many times it is the control board and expensive) We charged you for the service call only. It was several weeks later you called back after a failure again, we informed you that since you had tried those things DuShon recommended and the problem persisted, we would come back again at no charge, which we did. We would try a different technician and hopefully he could duplicate the problem this time. This time we sent Mike, also a very experienced technician and very familiar with your product. Again he could not duplicate the problem either. AT YOUR REQUEST, you wanted us to check the tub position sensor specifically at the sensor. (You mentioned this same part twice in your complaint)Mike did this to accommodate you and knowing it would not likely test faulty as the problem is intermittent. To get to that sensor the large bolt that holds the stator on the back of the tub needed to be removed. Mike did struggle to remove that bolt as it was really stuck on there. That was the banging noises you heard. Yes when we work on machines sometimes we have to make banging noises, it is part of repairing machines and removing large bolts. I take offence to the way you described this, as you make it sound like Mike was hammering on it with a crowbar or something intentionally destroying it. Yes the bolt did break off, but it was no fault of his. (More later) At that point it would be an expensive repair as the spinner shaft, bearings and seals would need replaced. And you still have the original problem. The tub sensor, control board, wire harness are all possibilities on top of the spinner support issue. It is no longer a repairable option due to cost. So you are upset at the situation and I empathize with that. Mike did not break your machine (more on that later) you did not need to call another service company out as we told you what it needed. The second company experienced a “LE” code. As you stated it is a different code than the original problem and triggered because the bolt was broken! (By the way it takes 15 seconds to diagnose a broken bolt not 2 trips). When talking to your husband I admit that I probably did get somewhat agitated. To be honest I still am, but trying to be professional. It was more than frustrating trying to explain the situation to someone who would not listen to what I had to say and kept cutting me off. He told me at least 5 times that he is an engineer and knew more than I do. The communication was indeed one sided. Having an engineering degree is a great accomplishment and does indeed indicate that you are intelligent, but it doesn’t make you right. Remember after all you called us out to remedy your issue after you could not figure it out yourselves. So upon your insistence you demanded that I pick up your machine from your house and further determine the problem anyways, even though at this point it is completely pointless. Again to accommodate you we did so and brought the machine to our shop. You stated we “could learn from the experience”. At that time I had no expectation that I was to do anything further or respond back to you. Who was going to pay for time invested into a lost cause? I had informed you at that time I was not going to do that, but I would pick up the machine. I was curious and did decide to investigate the bolt issue, as this happens rarely and I wanted to know the circumstances. It turns out that the reason the bolt would not come out was that an extreme amount of thread locking compound was used when the bolt was installed. It may have been overtightened as well. This could have occurred at the factory when the machine was assembled, or from a prior service done by another service company or yourselves when you were attempting to work on it. This I cannot know for certain I do not know what transpired prior to our involvement. What I do know is that this is not an error by my technicians and I will stand by their workmanship. You did state that they were very nice and you are correct, all my technicians and office as well are as well. I hire professional, empathetic and nice people. You also stated that Sears does not provide technical information with the product. You are correct that they do not in many cases and is something we occasionally struggle with. This was not a factor in this case as we have developed an extensive service library our technicians all have access to with their laptops. I will apologize for any part of all this being not being communicated with you by my technicians, but I can clearly see now how this communication issue occurred. Please accept this public comment as my final statement on this matter. Perhaps I should have written out this statement and mailed it to you directly, I will consider as an option going forward. I truly wish you good fortune with your new Speed Queen washer as well. We are the preferred Speed Queen Factory servicers for your area and love the product as well.

They are horrible and they cost me a $1000. Our washer was broke and they could not get it started. They try to claim it and said the washing machine was going to cost $400 to repair. They said the insurance won’t pay that much. So I called the appliance company and explain to them that their people admitted they did not know how to fit it. So we had an agreement. If I got another company to come in and fix it they would reimburse me because I had to go buy a brand new washing machine. We had gone 4 weeks with this company then the owner started lying. What was wrong with the machine was that they did not know how the reset the code. It took another company 8 minutes to fix it. They had me convince the motor was gone. I lost everything on it. They cost me so much money. They started saying the IC 300 failed, the sensor failed and the control board failed. All it was is a simple code. First they said it was 300 then it was $800. They did not follow the manual.

This review is very inaccurate to say the least. I believe you are venting your anger toward the wrong party here. We have no say in determining if a repair is covered under a particular service agreement. The warranty company that you had signed up with declined the repair because of the high cost of the repair. I am sorry it could not be worked out between you. We are a subcontractor authorized to perform work as approved by your warranty company. We must also perform these repairs as per your warranty companies guidelines. We are very capable of preforming any repair on your machine that is needed. In fact, all of our technicains are Certified Master Technicians and our company is a Certified Service Center as well. To say we could not fix it is untrue. It is unfortunate that you decided to take your aggravations with your warranty company on us by writing a poor review. This entire situation is beyond our control. We never charged you anything as our service call only was paid for by your warranty company. I would normally ask any customer that is unsatisfied with us for any reason contact us directly to work it out, but there is little we can do. I would recommend that anyone purchasing an extended warranty on their product do their due diligence and read the fine print before purchasing. Sincerely, Dave Smith (owner)

This company cares about making sure their customers are 100% satisfied. Customer Service Manager Barb, Service Manager Nick, and the ladies who answer the phone are all wonderful. Service tech Michael was also very nice. My Whirlpool washer had a mysterious leak which required three service calls before they determined exactly what was causing the problem. On the first visit Michael disabled the bleach dispenser in an effort to stop the leak without requiring a costly parts replacement. Unfortunately, that did not solve the problem. Second technician (visit #2) seemed irritated about being on the call from the moment he walked into the house. He ran a test cycle, said something about it being "unusual" to continue to have problems with the machine, and left. At that point I was very unhappy & had decided not to call them back (even though my washer was still leaking). While complaining to a friend about the situation, she encouraged me to voice my dissatisfaction regarding the second service tech. I'm very glad I decided to take her advice. As I spoke with Barb, she very patiently listened to my story & validated my concerns/frustrations. Her parting words were, "I hope you'll give us the chance to make this right, as we really try to offer each customer 100% satisfaction." The next day I called to have them set up yet another service call. They scheduled the Service Manager (Nick) to come out. He arrived promptly, ran a few test cycles, found the cause of the leak, and replaced the bad part. Nick was very friendly, patient, informative, and professional. He and Michael (first tech) both put on paper booties before they came into my home (second tech did not). To me, taking the time to do this is a gesture of respect for the customer's home & is greatly appreciated. I believe Dave Smith's honestly strives to provide excellent customer service/satisfaction. They have some very caring, competent, and capable employees. A big thank you to Barb and Nick for "saving the day!"

Mike H (the technician) was professional and efficient in all the conversation and work done. It was a horrible snowy Saturday morning with blinding wind gusts. He found us out on the country road and assured us that he could fix our appliance. He did so, demonstrated the replacement work and then discussed how we could help keep our dishwasher running its best in the future. The process of scheduling the visit was simple and when we had to change the date, it was no problem with re-scheduling. The company representative called to confirm our appointment the day before the service call. She was both friendly and helpful throughout the process. I will use this company in the future if and when I need further appliance repairs.

They were punctual; in fact they accommodated my schedule and came early so I could make it to another appointment. My refrigerator had been leaking water inside and they diagnosed the problem, explained the problem in great detail to my son and I and answered our questions. They came back the following week after the part came in and the second repairment was just as professional as the first. I will definitely use their services again if needed and will refer them to my friends or family. It is refreshing to find a service company who treats their customers this well, but they definitely win the prize on this!
Description of Work: They repaired my Whirlpool refrigerator, which had been leaking water.

We called this repair service primarily because of the positive reviews on Angie's List. The repairman was professional, courteous and timely but charged us approximately $70 just for the short visit and gave us an estimate of $280 to replace the timer on our $400 Whirlpool dryer and they couldn't schedule the actual replacement for a week. That seemed to be a long time to wait and an excessive amount for a simple part replacement so I went to Youtube and watched a video on how to replace the part. I learned that it wasn't any more complicated than removing a few screws and plugging in the new timer (as I suspected). Even though they quoted $145 for the part, the timer actually cost me $80 including shipping from the Whirlpool parts department. I am NOT a professional (or even an amateur) repairman and it took me less than five minutes to replace the timer. I've got to believe that professional repairmen like Dave Smith get a better price on these parts than the average homeowner. Even if they do pay the same amount for the part that I did, the $200 difference for five minutes of labor comes to about $2,400 per hour! They may be good at their job but in this case, I think they were just trying to make some easy money. I won't call them again!

You gave us very good grades on professionalism and punctuality. Thank you for that is what we are all about. Our service is GREAT! I will agree with you completely that doing any repair yourself is going to be immensely cheaper than hiring a professional to do this for you. Please consider my costs just to get out to your home: Truck payment, expenses and repairs, truck insurance and gas. I have to pay someone to take your call, office expenses like rent, heat, and electricity. Computers, software, phones, cellphones, Insurance and licensing. Professional expenses I pay other people for accounting, legal, I/T and my parts department. I have to pay my employees and provide health insurance and other benefits, taxes, workmans comp. liability insurance. That's even before a technician gets dispatched. Once that happens I have to pay a technicians time to TRAVEL to your home and diagnosis and time to evaluate your product. We do not just diagnosis your products failure but we evaluate and check it over as well. We do not want to fix something for you that may break again a short time later. My technicians are the best. This requires extensive training and tool and equipment costs. My cost to send my highly trained professional to your home is MORE than we charged you for the service call. The price we quoted you was competitive in the market. Lower than the National Blue Book Price but obviously more than you can do it yourself. I think you should have diagnosed this yourself too and you could have saved the service call. In some cases you can train a monkey to change a part, but it takes a skilled technician to diagnosis and properly evaluate your product, which we did at below our cost. Any business is in business to make a profit, you go to work everyday to make money and we are no different. We make our profit by providing good service to people. We have to make our profit on the technicians labor and some reasonable markup on the part.(covers the warranty) Your part pricing reflected a FACTORY part from a reliable source and included the shipping costs to us. I would like you to come in and show me how I am making 2400.00 hr.! (LOL) I can assure you that is not true. In fact the profit margins in our industry are low compared to most because of our high cost of doing business. We also back our repair with a great warranty, best in the business. I sincerely wish you luck repairing your own appliances going forward.

We are happy to help and make the best of a problem situation. The dryer was heating and the belt was good, glad you caught the burning smell and we cleaned the lint off of the element. It is also good that you stopped use until cleaning the long vent run. We look forward to helping you in the future should you need us.

Matt arrive within the time period promised. He quickly determined the problem was a broken belt and it was repaired in less than 30 minutes. Matt was very friendly, pleasant and did a great job. This is the second time I've used this company in the last few months. In July, my washing machine needed repair and Dave Smith Appliance also repaired it. They are a great company and I keep referring them to my friends.
Description of Work: Fixed clothes dryer. Drum stopped turning but was still heating. Matt replaced the belt.
