I just want to reiterate how satisfied I am with the purchase of my humidifier from Action Heating. I am now living in a static free environment. I am thankful to Action Heating for their prompt response to my call. They came out and got the job done fast, efficient and thorough.
Description of Work: The air in my home was tremendously dry. I had a great deal of static electricity and was consistently being zapped by this electricity. I was frustrated by this. When I purchased my furnace from Action Heating Terry Williams had mentioned a humidifier I told him I didn't think I needed one, well I was wrong. I needed one so I gave Action Heating a call and they were out that very day. Scott was the gentleman who came out and performed the installation. He was careful to keep the area neat and tidy. He explained what he was doing as I watched and answered my questions in detail. He was quick, neat and thorough. He also explained the operations of the humidifier.

The technician told me that it would either need a major repair or a full replacement. I got another estimate from a different company that was a fraction of the cost and was a minor repair.

Response from Action Heating & Air Conditioning & Electrical
I did go to this service call the first week of October 2012. I quickly found the reason the furnace was not working. The problem was a pressure switch that had water in it. A visual inspection of the furnace revealed that water had been running into the furnace and that the draft induce motor had severe water damage. There was substantial water damage inside the furnace itself. I also discovered that the pvc venting was improperly installed and was running down hill to the outside wall. After observing all of these issues I removed the pressure switch and shook the water out of it in an attempt to dry it out so that I could reinstall it and possibly get the furnace functioning temporarily. My attempt worked and the furnace came on. I then asked the customer to come into the furnace room and began showing her and explaining to her the concerns I had regarding the water damage to the draft induce motor as well as the pvc venting being installed improperly. We had a rather lengthy discussion about all options available. The options included: 1. Just replacing the pressure switch. A fairly minor repair with the least cost. But I explained that the new pressure switch would likely end up getting water into it due the other issues, and she might end up back in the same situation having no heat. 2. Replacing the faulty pvc venting, the water damaged draft induce motor, and the pressure switch. This would eliminate the cause of the water, and insure that the problem did'nt repeat itself again. We discussed approximate prices which were obviously higher than option 1. 3. Replacing the furnace entirely. This subject came up as a result of talking about option 2 and the customer asking whether they would be better off just getting a new furnace. I explained that the existing furnace was at least 17 yrs old and has a general life expectantcy of 20 yrs. I also explained that in anew installation the pvc venting would be replaced and installed properly. I also explained that a new furnace would come with a 10 yr warranty on all parts and labor. Options 1 or 2 would have a 1 yr part and labor warranty. After talking about all of the above I showed her that the furnace was currently working, and suggested she talk with her husband when he arrived home about what they together felt would be the best decision and how to proceed. I explained that we would do whatever they wanted us to do. I then packed up my tools and told her there was NO CHARGE at that time because we had spent much of the hour I was there discussing options. I told her we could square up on the service call once they made a decision as to how they wanted to proceed. When I left she thanked me and said she would contact me the next day. I did not hear from her the next day. I began calling her the following day which would have been 2 days after the original service. I continued attempting to reach her several times that next week. I was concerned that the furnace would stop working as the weather was getting colder. After leaving multiple messages I finally conceded that she would contact me whenever she was ready. Six months later is when we were notified that we had the above report. After doing a search we discovered that she had another company perform the minor repair just prior to writing a negetive report about her experience with me. She wrote a positive report about that company. My conclusions about this situation are that from the time I was there in October until she chose to call another company her furnace worked. The other company may not have observed or bothered to discuss all of the other problems going on with her furnace. She obviously didnt appreciate or understand my attempts to explain why the furnace failed originally. She never contacted me back to express any concern or disssatisfaction with my original visit to her home. There was no charge for my service call, opinion or attemp to follow through with her.

Arrived on time followed by a little tour to check the extension of the work to be done. Cold weather is always challenging to perfornm work around the house b ut there were no issues and everything was solved and operational in 5 hours. In addition they provided me with a list of potential hazards due to nor ideal conditions of some electrical equipment and asked me to schedule a new visit so the additional work could be done if agreed to.

They were all right. They did a nice job. The furnace is in and it looks good. Initially, I was not happy with their follow-up and there were a couple of other issues that I was not happy about. However, to their credit, I received a call from the guy who sold me my new furnace. He was very apologetic about the poor service and actually admitted that they had screwed up. One of the issues I had was that it took them a long time to remove the old furnace. They were supposed to haul the old furnace out and the guy said he would have somebody come over in two days. It sat in my basement for 1 1/2 weeks and I finally had to call. He did admit that they were in the wrong. The guy said he had a death in the family and he was sorry. I was bothered by that and a couple of other issues but Terry (from Action) did call me and talk to me about the service. To be fair, the furnace works great and my house was toasty warm all winter long. It also looks like my gas rates likely went down so that is a good thing. I guess that I would recommend Action since it is a nice furnace and they DID put it in in the space of a day. I would just caution anyone hiring them to keep on them if something seems amiss or out of the ordinary. They do seem to be responsive to the concerns of the customer. In reading the provider response, the only comment I will take issue with is the statement that "Scott" tried twice to call me to arrange to remove the old furnace. That never happened and as I work out of my home, I am always there. Other than that, my amendment stands. Thank you.

Let me say that I was surprised and disheartened by your response. I resent the implication that you "were taken for a ride" that is totally inaccurate. You called because Columbia Gas had shut your furnace off due to an internal gas leak. When I arrived I proceeded to your basement and removed the RED tag they had placed on it condemning the main control valve as dangerous. There was no need for me to bend down and look at the furnace. I could see everything, as the tag was very clear. I advised you that the furnace was very old, approx 30 plus years and indicated that I could replace the gas valve or you could replace the furnace. We stood in your kitchen discussing various options and YOU decided not to repair it and replace the furnace. This notion that you were "taken for a ride" is totally false and you know it. We also discussed Angies List and how important getting a good report was and I personally asked you to write us a report when the job was complete and said if there was any reason you couldn't give us a good grade to contact me and I would do whatever I needed to do to make it right. I never heard from you that you were upset or dissatisfied, I also mailed you a 3 page survey in December asking how we had done. This included a stamped return envelope and a discount coupon toward your first year service. You never mailed it back. Mike and I always follow up on these if there is anything that wasn't perfect. The day we installed your furnace we only had a one man crew "Scott" who was unable to get the old furnace out of the basement by himself that's why it was left there. According to Scott he called you two times to make attempts to get it and was unsuccessful in contacting you. In the interim period our mother became gravely ill while visiting in Minnesota and we were dealing with situation. Our mother on her death bed made a major change in her desire as to where she choose to be buried. As well as the fact she was residing in Florida, she decided she wanted to be buried in South Carolina. We had previously made arrangements for her to be buried here in Toledo. This sent us into a tailspin as arrangements had to be made in several states to include multiple memorial services so perhaps we were a little distracted for a week and a half. Sorry. When we discovered that we had left the furnace in your basement I immediately contacted Scott and asked him about it and he told me he was unable to connect with you, for that I sorry again I was a little distracted. Once we discovered this we made immediate arrangements for its removal. We also explained to you that we had been dealing with the death of our mother and this caused some of our distraction. We also compensated you and gave you 25 dollars toward the purchase of additional filters for your furnace. Again I resent the implication that somehow you were mislead, your and accomplished businessman and I'm doubtful that anyone is able to take advantage of you. I'm truly sorry that we let you down. Mike and I work hard to try and meet customers expectations. In closing we certainly don't deserve a "D" grade. Its your opinion, but I feel its unjustified and some of the "facts" are inaccurate.

Action Home Services, doing business as Action Heating, Air Conditioning, and Electrical conducted the installation of my furnace in a way that could be described as problem-solving. Whatever was necessary to provide me with a high quality product, delivered in the most professional way possible, they did.
Description of Work: I contacted Action Home Services after reading some of the reviews here on Angie's List. ( I had previously had two dealings with other local service providers, and was not satisfied.) The company returned my call the same day. They visited my home the next day. I explained that my furnace was not working, and that I had no heat. They were able to provide me with a furnace installation within 72 hours. The installer was very courteous. I had recently had some outstanding household repair expenses, which left me with limited resources to purchase this furnace. Much to my amazement, Action Heating was willing to work out a payment plan with me. One of the owners, Mike has contacted me to make sure I was satisfied with the services I received. Satisfied? I am amazed at the courtesy, kindness, and professionalism of this company. I wold recommend this company to anyone with enthusiasm. You will not be disappointed

My existing furnace went out just before a cold front was expected later in the week. I called Action Heating as they had installed the furnace some 18+ yrs ago. They were able to come out and diagnose the furnace the next day. Once the verdict was given on the problems with the old furnace, a new more energy efficient furnace was a must. Terry was able to get his crew over and get my furnace hooked up and running the very next day. The cold front came through a few days later and my house was toasty warm and very comfortable more so then before. So overall the service was very prompt and everyone was extremely helpful and friendly. The furnace is very efficient. The quality and workmanship are excellent. I am a very proud and happy customer.

Tuesday October 30th, my 14 year old furnace broke down, I called Action at approximately 7:30am for an inspection, within a few hours, someone came and looked at my furnace. He couldn't do an inspection as the main blower had failed. After a a discussion about the cost of replacing the motor or replacing the furnace, I made the decision to replace the furnace as several repairs had already been done on it over the last year. Mike got me a quote to replace the furnace same day, with several options. After finding what funds we had available for this a decision was made as to which option. Mike was very accommodating, and was able to shuffle his schedule to fit us in, as the cold season is setting in and we had no heat. Thursday morning came and the install crew was knocking on my door. A couple of hours later we had heat again. The only thing that didn't go as planned was a problem with the furnace that was supposed to be delivered, it was damaged at the supplier, so delaying the install about an hour so they could get one that wasn't damaged. I can live with that. Mike was genuinely concerned that everything was okay with the service, from the crew showing up to a follow up call the next day. The install crew did a fine job, and was very polite and considerate. I would definately go to Action again for my HVAC needs.

Terry performed a pre-season inspection and tune-up on my furnace and water heater. He explained each step of the process, including a check for a specific problem that's often seen in the heat exchanger in our model of furnace. As it turned out, the heat exchanger was fine, but I did have him replace the igniter that was still working but was 12 years old. (They typically last about 5 to 8 years). He left the old part with the furnace so that we could use it again in a pinch if the new one ever failed. A nice touch! Terry was very professional but with an easy-going manner. I was totally at-ease having him in my home and feel I could trust him to do a good job at a fair price.

I called action Heating & Air Conditioning to come out and tell me what was wrong with my AC, Heating, and possibly the duct system in my house. I called the number and got ahold of the answering service. Left a message and was promptly called back by Mike. Over the phone, Mike explained to me that the service call would be $69.95. However, if I purchased new equipment the $69.95 would go toward the cost of what I purchased. Therefore, I scheduled a Saturday morning appointment between 10a.m. and Noon. I was called back a few days later by Mike because he could not remember if the appointment was on Friday or Saturday. Mike arrived at my home at 10am on Saturday. I was not home so Mike went over the inspection with my wife. I arrived around 10:15am and Mike was done packing up his truck. He explained that my issue was a clogged filter, which he ran water over with our water hose, and which he subsequently left outside for it to dry. I then asked if anything needed to be replace or changed at that time, and he said no. I then asked him about a new wall unit that I could set on a timer because the one we had did not have that function. He said he could install that today. I then said we would take it. I then referenced his comment over the phone about the service call charge going toward the price of a purchase if we bought something. He then said he didn?t say that. I went on to try to refresh his memory about the conversation and he dismissed it every time. I tried to explain to Mike that our systems would need replacing in the future and we would not use their service if he did not honor what he told me over the phone. He again said he did not say that. I then said to him that you could not remember the appointment date, so how are you so sure you can remember what you told me over the phone. He had no response. I paid Mike $69.95 for our five minute filter wash. Needless to say, I will not use them in the future. And, I will not give them a favorable recommendation if anyone happens to ask me.

I always regret when there is any misunderstanding with a customer. This is one of those times that despite doing everything as promised we ended up with a customer dissatisfied. The member's account of what took place is not completely accurate. I did have a fairly long and detailed phone conversation with the member when he originally called to schedule a service call. We talked about his a/c not working as well as it once had. He asked questions about his furnace and duct system. He mentioned that the furnace and a/c systems were rather old and may need replacing in the near future. I assured him that I would check and inspect the systems and offer an opinion as to what was best to do. He did inquire about the charges and I explained that the $69.95 diagnostic fee was for the inspections and that any repair or parts would be an additional charge but would be quoted up front prior to performing the work. He did ask if the $69.95 would be applied to any extra costs and I said no. I then explained that if his furnace or a/c needed to be replaced and if he bought from Action that we would apply the $69.95 toward that type of purchase. I assume this may be where his confusion took place because in his report he mentions that I did tell him this. He obviously doesn’t recall that a credit applies only to the purchase of a new furnace or a/c. After discussing all these matters on the phone we then talked about scheduling a service call appointment. He vacillated between several options of days and times and even inquired of his wife to confirm that she would be home and then eventually we set the appointment. I failed to write the day on the service call slip. The very next day is when I caught my error and that’s why I called the member back to make sure I didn’t make any mistake because I didn’t want to miss our appointment. The day of the service call I did arrive on time and the Mrs. greeted me at the door. Our normal procedure is to ask the customer to refresh our memory about why they called and what problem their having. She told me that the airflow seemed weak on the second floor but then called her husband and gave me the phone to speak with him. He then reiterated the same basic information he and I had talked about in our original phone conversation. I explained to him what I was going to do first and he then told me he was on his way home. I went to the basement to start my inspection process. The furnace blower was not producing sufficient airflow so I immediately pulled the furnace filter out of the ductwork and found it to be completely plugged with dirt, dust, etc. Once the filter was removed the furnace blower was producing plenty of airflow. I’m certain the totally plugged filter was restricting the airflow and creating limited flow to house. I then performed the rest of my inspection of the furnace and found no additional problems. The furnace is approximately 26 years old. I proceeded to the outdoor a/c unit to continue the inspection. I took the filter with me so that I could show her and also so I could clean it. This type of filter is washable. I asked her if she knew when it was cleaned last and she replied no. I hooked my digital refrigerant gauges up to the outdoor a/c and while I was waiting for the pressures and temperatures to level out I proceeded to wash the filter out using the customer’s hose. As stated before the filter was completely plugged and took several washings to thoroughly clean. She was sitting on her back porch watching me and talking with her husband the entire time. I explained to her that the filter should be cleaned monthly and also that I was going to set it in the sun so it could dry. I also told her it would take a while and that she or her husband could put it back in the ductwork once it was dry. I then returned to the a/c unit to perform my inspection. I found that the refrigerant was ok, the temperatures were within proper ranges and the system was operating to its capacity. The a/c system is approximately 26 yrs. old. I removed my gauges and began taking my tools and equipment back to my truck. That’s when the member arrived. I had been at their home approximately 30 minutes. He appeared agitated from the moment I approached him to explain what I had done. I told him the results of my inspections and about the filter. I asked him when the last time it had been cleaned and he said it was his wife’s job to clean it. I told him it should be cleaned monthly. I then mentioned that I had no other suggestions regarding any additional repairs or service. That’s when he inquired about a programmable thermostat. I gave him a price and told him I could install it right away. He said yes then asked me if the $69.95 fee would be taken off the bill. I said no. He was very short with me and said forget the thermostat. I told him no problem and that I would prepare his invoice. He went into his house. I prepared the invoice and went to the door and he came out with his check book and told me he was not happy with the service I performed. He made the comment that all I did was wash his filter for $69.95. I tried to reiterate that I had performed complete inspections of his furnace and a/c systems but he dismissed anything I had to say and told me I would not be getting a good review from him. I apologized and made a final attempt to appeal to him but obviously was not successful at any resolve. I left the member's home feeling very frustrated and regretful that he did not appreciate or recognize the excellent, honest service he was provided at a very competitive price. I’ve been providing professional HVAC services to customers for over 20 yrs. and take great pride in solving problems and satisfying the people we serve. I’m thankful to say our track record speaks for itself with the overwhelming positive reviews we receive as well as our A+ BBB rating with no complaints. We serve an excellent customer base that continues to refer us to their family, friends and neighbors. Thank you all for your continued support. Mike Williams

Very, very well from start to finish.
Description of Work: Our A/C went out and I called Action to make an apointment for the following week figuring they were swamped due to the record heat we were having. Mike called back within minutes and was able to come right over to see what the problem was. He was able to fix our A/C immediately and within a half hour our system was running again. My wife and I are VERY, VERY GRATEFUL for the VERY, VERY, PROMPT service!

It went very well. Do tell them as much history of the issue as you know. Don't with hold information, be honest. Don't act as if they are scamming you, they are not. Too many times as consumer we have benn pre programmed to not trust contractors and service/repair companies. These guys are very trustworthy.
Description of Work: Action Air came out and analyzed my air conditioner unit. Last season I had three others out who did a number of different fixes" charged me a lot and nothing was fixed. I then looked on Angie's List and found Action Air. Mike came out, last year, immediately found the actual problem and corrected it. This year to be on the safe side I had them come out and do a check up for this season. Terry came out this time. He thoroughly inspected everything and explained the science and mechanics as he went through everything. I am good to go for another year. This is a honest, knowledgeable, capable company. I would highly recommend Action Air to anyone. Gary Thompson

Terry from Action was great. He provided In depth information regarding repair vs. replace analysis, which made it simple for me to make an informed decision on the maintenance of my heating/cooling system. He worked around my tenants schedule and arrived early to the site completing the install in a timely manner. I would absolutely recommend Terry and action heating to a friend or family member.

Our furnace was occasionally not turning on right away when the house temperature reached the thermostat setting. I called Terry at Action and he was very prompt in coming to our home and evaluating our issue. Terry found a bad sensor, which only needed to be cleaned, serviced the part and our furnace has operated properly since. I appreciate their honestly in that Terry could have easily sold us a new sensor when the old one only needed to be cleaned. It's great to be treated with such honesty and integrity.

My daughter's furnace would not stay on long enough to heat her house. Mr.Williams came to her house the next day after calling for service. He was on time, courteous and very professional. He quickly determined the problem and pulled the flame sensor out for inspection. At this point he could have just said a new one was needed, put in a new one and charged me. Instead, he explained how these sensors can develop a thin film on the surface that would inhibit it's ability to sense a flame, so the heat would turn off. He just cleaned it with a wire brush and re-installed it. I was very pleased with his work and will use them again when the need arises, thanks for a job well done.

Overall, it went very well. He was punctual and professional.
Description of Work: I own a house with an attached apartment. The house and apartment have separate heating systems. As I was leaving for the winter, I wanted to have both checked out before I left, to make sure as much as possible that each would make it through the heating season. I called Action to have them check out both systems. The guy from Action (Terry?) came at the appointed time and checked out both systems. He was very thorough and answered all questions that I had. I was advised of the service fee when I first called to make the appointment, and the quoted fee is exactly what I was charged. He also honored the coupon they have available through Angie's List. While checking out the boiler system for the apartment, he was able to remove and clean the burner, and also able to bleed a bit of air that had developed in the system.

In the first visit, the gentleman arrived on time, was courteous and professional. He performed a diagnostic on the A/C unit and did other investigations and determined that -among other things- the system was out of coolant and informed me of the various options available. I chose to replace the current unit with a newer one rather than fiddle with the old one. We set a date for the work to be done. The technicians arrived on time and again were courteous and professional. They answered any questions I had. They disassembled the old units and replaced them with the new ones, cleaned up after themselves and made sure everything was working properly before they left. It's been several months since the installation, the A/C unit worked great in the summer and the water heater has been working just fine as well.
Description of Work: Replaced non functioning A/C unit with new one. Installed new water heater to replace 14 year old one.

A tenant furnace stopped working. Action Heating coordinated with the tenant for a time to go to the property and service the furnace. Action Heating went to the property and was able to quickly resolve the problem. This was the smoothest HVAC repair I have ever had done on a tenant property. I will surely use Action Heating in the future.
Description of Work: Action Heating repaired a furnace that was not working. They were able to repair the furnace without replacing any parts. This was a great relief because so many HVAC companies replace parts that are not necessary, that its great to see a company that fixes your furnace as economically as possible.

My husband and I had a rental home in Ottawa Hills that needed some furnace work prior to our potential buyers purchasing the property last month. We reside in Memphis and had relied on all the excellent Angie's List ratings last summer when we needed a company to do the annual check-up and maintenance. Terry, and all the folks at Action Heating, Air Conditioning and Electrical were very professional, prompt and informative in the summer of 2010. We knew exactly whom to call last month when we needed some information/work done on the furnace. Terry answered our call personally and we made arrangements for him to enter the house (even as we were down in Memphis) and meet the potential buyers there. I should mention he did this on very short notice. We called his cell phone at 9pm the evening before the buyers wanted to meet with him. Although he was already booked the next day, he listened to our urgent request and made our house the first appointment of the day. He spent time with them , explaining the pros and cons of keeping the 52 year old furnace. He also explained their other options: Upgrading the valves on the original furnace or replacing the furnace altogether. Obviously, he could have simply told them they needed a new furnace. It would have been more advantageous for his company, but he honestly gave them all the information so they could make an informed decision. We, as well as the buyers, appreciated his honesty. When it was decided the valves would be replaced, Terry again helped us from afar. We decided to replace all the valves for the buyers. Terry worked with our real estate agent to gain entry into the house to do the work. Knowing he was a trustworthy person, we felt confident about him doing the work independently, without us even in the same state. He had quoted us $500. We were billed $500. I cannot recommend this company highly enough. From the annual check-ups these past 2 years, to the personal service he gave to our buyers, the vent cleaning, and ending with the valve replacement, this company is A+ all the way. My husband and I wish we could find such service here in the Memphis area. Thanks, Terry!!

As you can see from our other reports we often work with owners that are no longer living in the area and they rely on us to be honest and upfront. You can count on us to always give you a fair evaluation. In this case the furnace was approxiamately 40 years old and had some issues and we recontroled it, but did recommend to the new owners that they make replacement a high priority. Thank you for your trust in us. Terry
