We had been trying to get one of the bigger Columbus pool companies to fix our pool lights since we moved in over a year ago. We were routinely told that we were "on the list", but they never came out to fix the lights. I searched Angie's List and found Nautilus Pools because they were close to my residence. I reached out to them via email and Matt contacted me back very soon and set my expectations appropriately with his schedule and when he could come out. He and his wife came out a few days later and assessed the situation. They worked well together as a team and he did a great job with sharing the details of what he thought the problem was and the order in which he was going to try fix it. He explained things in terms I understood. He came out a couple of days later (on a Saturday) like he said he would and did a thorough job fixing the electrical work. He ended up having to order parts to finish the job. By Monday afternoon, our pool lights were up and running again! I appreciated Matt's approach to problem solving and involved me in the key decisions that were needed with various options. I would most definitely use Nautilus Pools again. In fact, I had another problem with my pool pop up yesterday and they are on their way to see what's going on. Thanks Nautilus Pools!

Matt did a major rehab of our pool last year and we were so pleased with that experience that we used him again this year to open the pool and to install a heater and a chlorine dispenser. As usual Matt came at the appointed time and did the work neatly and efficiently. When he left the pool water was clear and the pool was up and running including the heater and chlorinator. Matt also told us that our pump is leaking and since we decided not to buy a new one last year because it was old but still functional this news came as no surprise. Matt was able to get the leak to a very minor level and said we could hopefully get through the summer on the current pump but would have to replace at season's end. Matt is always so helpful and gives us as much notice as possible on things that will need attention in the future. Matt is one of the few service people I work with that always answers his phone or calls me back within hours. He is very responsive. I would highly recommend Matt if you need any pool work or maintenance done.

Nautilus Pools has performed well. Matt is quite knowledgeable about in-ground pools and the equipment that operates them. (He also constructs pools.) He was usually punctual although his other business obligations (e.g., building a pool elsewhere during the summer) interrupted his schedule a couple of times. Except for the period of the algae bloom, the pool water was quite clean and enjoyable during the summer. Matt is willing to discuss maintenance matters and is willing to do the little extra tasks that improve the summer's pool experience. We checked other pool maintenance firms and found some that were a little less expensive but decided to continue with Nautilus.
Description of Work: This was the second year in which we engaged Nautilus Pools for pool maintenance. The fee was about $200 for opening the pool, $200 for closing, and $75 per week for the maintenance. Matt opened the pool for the summer and provided pool and equipment maintenance during the season (17 weeks). He checked the pool at least weekly and made chemical and mechanical adjustments as needed. He also cleared the pool of a stubborn algae bloom over several days in July. He closed the pool in September. Although he would have provided the chemicals for a fee, we decided to purchase them separately. In addition (for extra charges), Matt repaired the Polaris pool cleaner and replaced the skimmer baskets and some of the pool cover anchors.

Matt started right on time first removing the concrete, then the pool water and then our steps. During the course of our work Matt pointed out our pool should have a bottom main drain. (The rest of the pool companies also, suggested we have a bottom main drain), he pointed out our electric light was not up to code. In the beginning we decided to fix these things even though they are additional to our estimate of $18,500. The pool floor needed more help than anyone imagined. Every pool company left the floor as an open item on their estimates since, there was no way with the water in the pool for them to tell what need to be done. During our construction Matt never tried to sell me anything additional on our estimate he just showed me the issues he found and provided me information on ways to fix them. After the liner went in Matt noticed our pool was loosing water faster than evaporation could account for. The loss was significant enough that even I knew the pool should not loose this much water in October. We all looked for a leak on top of the ground by the pool pump nothing to give us an idea where the water was going. Matt decided to bring over his scuba gear and wet suit for him to check every seam in our liner the pool steps and pool light. After going over the entire pool he was still unable to find the leak. Matt decided to plug all our water lines and we where still losing water then he went back in the pool with his scuba gear and found our leak in the top of the light niche. At this point Matt told me we had a couple options one to patch the hole which would only fix the problem in short term or replace the niche. I asked for and received information on lights, niches and control outlets. We decided to fix the issue correctly by replacing the niche and upgrading our light to an LED Disco light. This is how our estimate increased so much from our original estimate. The extra money to fix the issue in my opinion was well worth the cost. My hat is off to Matt for finding our leak. I know I would have never jumped in with 55 degree pool water. We now have a pool we can use without worrying about leaks or needing patched for many years to come. If you ever need anything for your pool or spa I would recommend contacting Matt first he will definitely do a great job.
Description of Work: We have a20 x 40 rectangle pool that needed a new liner and walk-in steps replaced. For the step replacement some concrete deck needed to be removed and I requested about 15' additional concrete be replaced. All this work was included in our first estimate of $18,500

The pool was a low hung liner pool from the early 70s that had not been opened in years. The main drain was not operational nor was the skimmer. The coping was fiberglass and was cracked and chipped and very dated. The fiberglass steps leading into the pool had a horrible pattern and were very dirty. The lines would not hold pressure. The liner track was located just a foot off the bottom of the pool and the sidesof the pool were fiberglass panels that were leaking where they joined. The light was also leaking. Matt replaced the skimmer and all of the lines to the pool. He removed the diving board, cut out the facing of the old coping and refiberglassed it to make it smooth and the top part of the new pool. He added new white aluminum coping on top of the old coping. The new coping included a new liner track so the pool would take a full liner. he sanded down the horrible pattern on the steps and refiberglassed and painted the steps. We decided not to rehab the light, so Matt fiberglassed over the light hole and then covered it and the old fiberglass sides of the pool with insulation to make a smooth surface for the liner. The bottom of the pool was a combination of concrete and vermiculite and Matt patched and repaired the surface for the liner. He dropped a new liner and hooked up the filter and pump to the pool. Since the new coping was now 3 inches above the old coping a new deck and patio had to be poured. Matt broke up and hauled away the old deck and patio and put in the forms for the new deck and patio so the concrete guys could pour concrete. Matt was incredibly knowledgeable about every step needed to complete this project. He and his assistance, Dave, did all of the work. There was nonstop rain during this project, but as soon as it quit raining for even a part of a day Matt and Dave were at the pool working. They were very diligent. They kept me informed at every step and always asked for a decision whenever something needed to be decided. They didn't just go off and do something the way they thought I might want it done. They were very professional, timely and very very good at what they did. We now have a beautiful pool that looks brand new at a fraction of the cost. I highly recommend Matt and Dave for any pool work anyone has and will continue to use them to service my pool from now on.
Description of Work: Completely rehabbed a very old dilapidated pool that two other companies wouldn't even bid on because of the condition it was in. Matt of Nautilus Pools did an outstanding job from start to finish and created a new pool out of an eyesore at a very reasonable price.

We have a 4 year old pool and due to poor installation by the builder of the pool, we needed to replace our liner. Matt was here when he said he would be (which I wasn't used to with the original builder) and was always courteous and did the service at my convenience, not necessarily his. Matt also went above and beyond as he replaced/fixed some other problems we were unaware of due to the original builder, and never changed the price he originally quoted. I wouldn't hesitate to call Matt again, which I plan to do for opening/closing my pool yearly. Thanks Matt for you professionalism - it was a welcome change from what I was used to!

Of the firms we had interviewed, Nautilus Pools' estimate was not the lowest but it appeared to offer the best combination of expertise and diligence. We were not disappointed. Mr. Wells has exhibited much knowledge about swimming pool construction, operation and water treatment. He also proved to be diligent in his work to repair and paint the pool, to repair its equipment, and to make the entire facility both functional and attractive. He explained the painting process and helped us select the paint color (even, for that purpose, inviting us to inspect another client's pool). He also gave us advice about various issues arising with swimming pools and their equipment. As this summer has unfolded, Mr. Wells has maintained the pool well, fixing any minor problems that have occurred.
Description of Work: In May 2010, Matt Wells of Nautilus Pools inspected our 38,000-gal. swimming pool. He detected several leaks and proceeded to repair the cracks as well as replacing the hydrostatic valve, which was also leaking. He then painted pool's bottom and steps with one-coat epoxy paint (including grit-laced epoxy for the steps). He also inspected and repaired the pool's operating equipment; installed a fixed water-evacuation valve and pipe to the water-filter container; and installed a system evacuation valve and underground pipe from the equipment pad down to the adjacent ravine. He then performed the necessary steps to open the pool. We contracted with Mr. Wells to provide weekly pool maintenance for the summer.

We've used Matt at Nautilus Pools on several occasions for different things associated with our pool. Most recently, our pool heater went on the fritz. I contacted Matt and he called me the next day. Set up an appointment to come and look at it after the OSU football game. He took the heater apart and was able to quickly diagnose the problem. He explained everything in detail and provided options for me. I trust his knowledge and dependability.

I was in the market for having my pool painted when Matt showed up at my door and we talked a bit. A few days later I had him give me an estimate. That was $2500 for painting the pool plus $500 more for caulking if required. I asked Matt for references and talked with about 5 people who had nothing but good things to say about Matt. I signed a contract. Matt drained and initially cleaned the pool a couple of days later. We waited almost 2 weeks for a string of good days required for painting. The pool was painted with 2 coats of epoxy and looks great. Matt and his wife worked under the lights past midnight at one point. The only hiccup was that Columbus would not give a permit to fill the pool from a hydrant since our neighborhood has 4 inch mains and this would stir up sediment and make my neighbors unhappy. I filled with a garden hose which took a couple of days. The total was less than $3000 and that included cleaning the deck and diving board and tax (no caulking was required). I estimate the cost to fill the pool at $260 additional which will show up on my water bill.
Description of Work: Cleaned the concrete deck and diving board. Painted the concrete bottom of my inground concrete and fiberglass pool.

His estimate for painting the pool was lower than other estimates we had gotten, so we hired him. He came as promised, was prompt and did an exceptional job. He did a great job with power washing the deck and retaining wall, also. We have many trees around our pool, so he had to contend with a lot of debris dropping into the pool, but he handled all of that well. He even put our pool cover away for us. We ended up buying our chemicals from him. All of his prices were very reasonable. We found him to be knowledgeable, dependable, courteous, and a very hard worker. We would definitely hire him again and would recommend him highly.
Description of Work: We hired Nautilus Pools to paint our in-ground pool before opening it up for the season. The price for that was $2,135.00. Since he did such an exceptional job, we also hired him to open the pool, power wash our deck and retaining wall, and bought all of our chemicals from him. Total price for all of this with tax was $3,437.32.

Matt and his associate Rhonda did great work! Matt came highly recommended by our neighbor. Matt and his family have worked on their pool for many years. Matt previously worked for another company listed on Angie's list. Much of the positive feedback was related to Matt's work. The spa company we had used for the past 4 years told us that our spa was no longer functional and that we should turn it in to a fish pond. Matt wouldn't hear of it. He has our spa working great and looking amazing. We have used been using it since he performed the work last year. The swimming pool looks brand new. Matt came back many times because he was not completely satisfied with a few areas of the pool. We hadn't even noticed any problems. He also closed our pool at the end of the season. He has a system that does not require emptying the water in the pool. When he came back to open our pool the water was crystal clear. He also taught us how to open the pool ourselves.
Description of Work: Matt completely rehabbed our 36,000 gallon swimming pool and in ground spa.
