D & L Heating & Cooling

I purchased the deal Thursday morning, June 5, 2014. I had not received a message from the company by Tuesday, June 10 and responded as such when I was contacted by Angie's List that day checking to see if D & L Heating and Air had contacted me. I did receive a message later that evening from Bill asking me to call him but since it was after business hours, I messaged him back that I would call the next morning. On Wednesday morning I called, left a voice mail, and he returned my call that afternoon to schedule an appointment. Because it took longer than two business days for me to be contacted, I gave them a B for responsiveness. Once we connected, Bill and I settled on late Monday afternoon, June 16. I had forgotten about a dinner meeting that night, so I called him back and we decided that another day later in the week would be fine. Shortly after, Bill called me back and said he would make us his first appointment on Monday instead and that he would call me when he was on his way. I told him how much I appreciated him rearranging his schedule for us. True to his word, Bill called Monday morning. Not only was he punctual, he was actually early which was fine with us. He was very pleasant and went right to work on our outside A/C unit. He was even patient with our nosy Westie who wanted to participate in the inspection. He explained that everything seemed to be working fine but that we were low on freon and that would be a separate fee ($70). We even had an informational discussion about the high cost of freon due to EPA regulations and how much longer it will even be available for those of us with older units. He and my husband went down to the basement where he checked the air temperature and later he was even kind enough to read through our heating system manual to answer a question my husband had about diagnostic color codes. I was very impressed with his friendliness and knowledge. That being said, because Bill didn't do several of the things listed on D & L's deal details, we only gave them a C- for quality. When preparing to write this review, my husband and I went over everything that was supposed to have been done as part of the service. Other than checking the air temperature in a vent, he did not touch or inspect the air handler unit in the house at all. He was to inspect the accessible evaporator coil, examine and report the condition of the air filter, flush the condensate drain, inspect indoor blower motor, blower wheel and housing, lubricating if needed, inspect readily accessible duct system for obvious air leaks, and vacuum the air handler and remove any debris. My husband was with Bill and did not observe him doing any of those things. We were not outside with him the entire time, so we can only assume that he did everything he was supposed to do on our outside unit. We should have had the list with us so we could have questioned him about it at the time, but my husband didn't even realize those things were to be part of the service until we were reading over their list when preparing to do our review. Everything combined, D & L's score is a B-

Went well. This was the annual cleaning. While they were at the house they found the air conditioner drain hose was clogged. They cleaned it out for no extra charge.

Bill climbed into attic to check part of system then went outside to inspect balance. He added freon needed for proper operation. Only negative was not completely closing cover to attic.

Everything went wonderful-they were right on time and explained all the work as it was being done.

He was very courteous, explained to me what he had done since my son was the one present. He pointed out the need to replace the furnace because of it's age and present low efficiency. He gave me an estimate. I will be calling him in the Fall to install a new unit.

When we call him, he's always willing to come out. He is pleasant, reliable and he's really agreeable when he comes out. He comes out within reasonable time, does what we need done and we like him.

Our old air conditioner worked well for the rest of the cooling season.

I purchased the coupon. According to coupon on Angie's List vendor should have called me within 48 business hours. No on called so after 3 days i found someone else and requested a refund.

My experience was okay. He was knowledgrable and on time for the appointment. They were easy to get a hold of by phone and email.

The showed up on time and the appointment was easy to make.

Overall, Excellent, I would recommend D&L in general, however, I am concerned that D&L has not responded to my inquiry from June 30th. I have called at least 3 times and emailed them as well that we are getting a vibrating noise when the system runs. Josh did correct the other issue, an internal water drainage issue on 2 previous trips, but not this latest snafu with the new system. While I like them overall, I am disappointed at the non-responsiveness that seems out of character. While I'd like to use D&L in the future, non-responsiveness would preclude me from doing so.

D&L handled it well, kept it simple, and served in an amiable fashion. Their rep was cordial and relaxed, easy to talk to.

The service turned out excellent. They were a very good vendor to work with. They were very honest and thorough. They did a good job.

They were very good. They were on time and very thorough. I will certainly recommend them.

I wasn't there, but my wife was and she said they were fine. They were able to schedule on the date we needed.

He was really excellent. He explained to me how the furnace works and all that stuff, so I was really pleased with him. He is very efficient, and clean, he cleaned up after himself. He explains to you so you know what he is doing, and if there are parts to be changed, he will explain to you, why they need to be changed. This contractor can continue to have my business. I told him I would recommend any body who needs his service to him. His prices are extremely reasonable, and I had to get the price of the part online, and what he charged me was average. I am very pleased. He was above average when I compare to other places.

It went good. They were just normal and okay. They did a satisfactory job.

I didn't really get whole lot out of the guy on any issues my furnace might have and what possible fixes I might want to perform. I assume he performed the maintenance but I couldn't really tell.

It went very well and I was very impressed. He told me about a few things to watch out for in the future such as the motor struggling a bit when it comes on and then a pipe that had some errosion on it for the water heater. Neither were immediate fixes. He was very informative, professional, and had made time for the appointment which I was appreciative of. I had a great first impression of Josh and the company.

He said I would need a new furnace and that he could smell propane at the furnace. The furnace is 21 years old but is still working. I have two carbon dioxide detectors in the home and neither have gone off yet. At this time I am not in a position to replace it yet, but hope to by spring.

They did a good job. They did what they were suppose to do.

Very good. Josh had to call a few times to reschedule but he was very communicative so it worked out fine.

Serviceman noticed my heat pump wasn't performing effeciently enough and added freon to it without really asking. At first I thought it was included with the service call but he then asked me for $120 for the freon added. With the freon and the service call, it totaled $170. Also, the serviceman could not answer some of my questions about the operation of the heat pump and furnace, so he deferred those questions to his son, which he insist I call and setup another appointment. I am on the fence about asking them back, but the father was very courteous and friendly. Lastly, I gave them a D for responsiveness because I had to leave several messages before anyone got back to me, even though I entered the time to respond from the Angie's List site.

Purchased deal, (2 furnaces/ one home), provided contact information for D & L to schedule access with current tenant. I received an email on 11/16 from D & L to please give them a call. Just happened to be at the PC when the message came and returned the call within 10 minutes. The call went to voicemail (Josh). It is now 12/15, to date there has been no other contact or service that I am aware of. At this point I cannot rate their service, but communication seems to be an issue. Will provide additional feedback once we are able to obtain service.

Third time I have used them. They have been excellent and responsive every time. They explain everything and give options and suggestions on which way to go with repairs or replacements. They understand when you need a temporary repair to keep you running for awhile before you can schedule and afford any replacement units. I highly recommend them.
