Response from Jarus Electric
First of all, I answer my own phone...which is extremely rare in this business. When I answer I am usually on a ladder, in a ditch, on my stomach in an attic crawl space, etc. I am not at my desk. This situation makes it very difficult for accurate notes to be taken. After setting up an appointment or agreeing to speak again with a potential client, I ask them to follow up with either an email or text, to confirm things. If I don't reply, I didn't receive your email or text.. call back. I think that the inconvenience of an email or text for the potential client is far outweighed by the actual business owner answering his phone instead of a machine or a secretary. I don't think a little cooperation is too much to ask for.

Tom stopped at our house the day after I called, to check out the situation and give us an estimate. He did the actual job the next week. He completed all the work in approx 3 hours. He installed the new fixtures and wall switch very neatly, hiding the wires extremely well, and making sure that the fixtures were parallel to each other. What most impressed me was how clean he left the room where he was working as well as the adjacent basement room. Even though he had to drill into some wood, the floor was immaculate (no dirt, no shavings for me to clean up!). In my opinion, he is one of only 2 or 3 workmen out of many who have come to our house and really paid attention to doing a thorough job of cleaning up after the job was completed.
Description of Work: We called Tom Jarus because the single light fixture -- a single bare bulb ceramic fixture with a pull chain -- in one of our basement rooms needed to be replaced. We decided that we wanted a second fixture added to this room, and that both lights should be operated from a wall switch, instead of pull chains.

It went very well. Tom came out the same day that I called and, with the help of another man, performed the above job. I thought the work was done very well although it took a little longer than I thought it would have. Tom did have to find the "hot" line since there was none in the attic already. Took about 3 hours altogether.
Description of Work: We recently had an attic fan installed and needed it wired. There was no "hot" line so Tom had to run a line up inside a wall to the attic.

Tom removed the post and corrected the initial problem. The illuminating company retured to disconnect the temporay power to my house, but they refused to disconnect the temporary cable since they found continued low voltage problems. Tom determined the location and cause of the additional problems (the undergorund sprinklers system that was installed by the previous owners damaged wiring when it was installed). He worked with the Illuminating company on our behalf to get the job complete. We were very pleased with his work and diligence working with the electric company.
Description of Work: The Illuminating company determined that a partial power outage in my home was caused by an external source. The Illuminating company placed a temporary cable from the road to my phouse to supply us with power until we got an electrician to fix the problem. Tom removed the wooden post that cut through electrical wiring that supplies power to my home.

These guys are fantastic. Everything went great. The owner met with us at least four times before even giving an estimate. He kept us informed and up-to-date. The workers were courteous, professional and helpful. I would use Jarus for absolutely any electrical work, large or small. They were a pleasure to work with and provided not only the work, but solid advice on budgeting and priorities.
Description of Work: They removed old knob and tube wiring and updated the wiring in our house including the basement and first floor. They also wired for electrical, cable and phone in a renovated section, replaced a breaker box.

I called Jarus Electrical in a panic around 6 am in the morning. I was ironing a pair of pants for work when the breaker cut out. Problem is, the furnace (air conditioning) and the refrigerator are both on that line! Tom promised to be there within the hour, and he was! (Thank goodness I got my shower in.) Tom reset the breaker, and then tested the furnace fan, the refrigerator and the dehumidifier, which we learned were all on the same 15 amp circult. What I didn't realize was that the iron shared the same outlet, which is what caused the breaker to cut off. The real culprit was the dehumidifier, which without the iron but with the fridge and furnace, operates at about 14.1 amps. When we tested pulling the plug on the dehumidifier, the wattage dropped all the way down to just a little over 7 amps! Since the breaker is still in working order, we kept everything as is for now, so all I had to pay for was the service call. I've used Tom in the past, and will continue to call on Jarus Electric for all of my electrical needs! Professional but friendly, Jarus Electrical meets and exceeds all expectations!

Tom came on very short notice to work around another job we had going on that discovered an electrical line that needed to be rerouted before they could proceed. While he was here he noticed that the connections between the house and the main power line had been damaged, and were not secure. We made arrangements to have this dealt with, and while we were at it decided to deal with our ancient breaker panel, a problem which we were previously aware of. Tom was very accommodating, working around his schedule to try and fit us in quickly to allow our other repair job to proceed. He also made the arrangements for the inspection and followed up with us to ensure everything was fine. We were very pleased with his work and professionalism and would use him again.

Overall, the service went well. I didn't price compare since it was an emergency, but two guys were there for about 5 1/2 hours. They answered the phones at 3:15 am and were there by 8:30 am. They hooked up temporary power by 11 am, so I did not lose my freezers which was helpful. They finished the job after buying the parts for replacement.

As always, Tom is professional, respectful of our property, and friendly. In addition to doing the work simply stated above, he secured the wire to the outdoor outlet in a manner that will enable use to access and use it again in the future. He also filled in the space where the wire exits the house to prevent pests from entering and made a temporary fix to the siding where the outlet exited the house (we will permanently fix this ourselves).

After visiting the house, Mr. Jarus quickly emailed me a quote for the work. Three weeks later, the work began. Mr. Jarus did everything we asked, even taking an extra day to do the work because the placement for one of the outlets was difficult for him to get to. He and his workers were efficient, friendly, and cleaned up after themselves each work day. When the work was completed, Mr. Jarus showed me everything that had been done and made sure I was satisfied with the work. Overall, this was a wonderful experience and I will definitely consider Jarus Electric if I need to have electrical work done in the future.

We hired Jarus to complete prewiring for heated floor, which they did (see previously submitted report). However due to some miscommunication from our flooring company, we needed Jarus to make not one, but two additional unplanned trips. Tom was great to get someone out immediately when I called late the night before and had someone out the very next morning. Unfortunately another surprise came up and once again Tom was able to supply an electrician to finish up the job. I cannot rate Tom and his team high enough and really appreciate their efficiency.

Tom was great from our initial meeting to review our requests and provided terrific suggestions. His estimate was extremely prompt after our meeting. Tom and Mike worked for two days to run the wiring from the basement to the second floor master bedroom/bathroom. It was very challenging as they ran wiring from one end of the basement, up through the attic, across the length of the house, and down to the master bedroom/bathroom. We appreciated that they did not give up and most importantly only had to put two holes in the bathroom drywall (which they patched upon completion) to complete all of the upstairs projects. They also completed the remaining projects except for the under cabinet lighting in the kitchen. Due to all of the challenges, Carl came back on a different day to complete the final project. He was absolutely incredible as he managed to install all of the under cabinet lighting in our kitchen WITHOUT any holes! He was able to go through the drywall in the garage. We could not have been more impressed!!! After each work day was completed, they cleaned up throughly. They also took care throughout the entire project to stay as neat and clean as possible. My husband and I are extremely particular and we could not give Tom and his team a high enough recommendation. I plan on using Jarus Electric for all of my future electrical needs. I will recommend them to my family and friends and suggest to all Angie's List members as well.

Tom was great when he first came to give me an estimate. He not only crawled through the walls/crawlspace in my finished attic to see the knob and tube wiring, but he also spent considerable time in the basement talking me through my electrical system and looking at how things were done. I felt very confortable with Tom's experience as a licensed electrical contractor as well as licensed electric safety inspector. I ended up accepting his proposal and he came out the following week after my acceptance. They were on time and took care not to make a mess, even bringing an extra pair of shoes to wear inside since it was snowy outside. I am happy with the finished product and would definitely use Tom again in the future.
Description of Work: Ran new circuit to the roof for fufure installation of roof deicing cables and installed an on/off switch for the circuit right next to the box in the basement. There are now two outlets next to the roof on the outside, one in front and one in back. Tom also put a small light on the outlets so that I can verify that the outlets are receiving power. In addition, had some knob and tube wiring removed from the ceiling and walls of the third floor and replaced with modern wiring.

Tom came right out to give me an estimate on the work we wanted done. We wanted a lot done, so Tom had a lot of notes to take. He forgot to figure in the attic work we wanted done when he gave us the estimate, but we went ahead with the project and asked that Tom give us the estimate for the attic after the project was underway. That worked out fine, and the price was fair. Everyone asked a lot of questions to make sure that we were getting what we wanted. The crew cleaned up the areas where they worked, and were very considerate. They put up the ceiling light without charge! It took awhile to get the job done, and work was spread over about 4 different days. I wouldn't have anyone else work on my electric.
