He found that an electric oil heater we using had fried, causing the smell. He had tips on how to prevent this type of issue in the future. He is fast, professional, and reasonable. Highly recommended.
Description of Work: I thought I smelled smoke from an electrical fire in my daughter's room. The walls around the outlets were not hot, so I called Jarus Electric to see if he would be able to help diagnose the issue and confirm we were safe. He left another work site and immediately came over (since it was a safety issue).

Tom and two associates arrived early on the designated day. Tom gave the two associates an overview of the work to be done, along with suggestions and a walk through. The young men got right to work with the kitchen projects which were our first priority. I am very picky and reminded Tom that I wanted clean cuts and drill holes. We had a laugh about who was the most "anal" and perfectionistic -- me or the guys. Everything went well, and my husband and I are pleased with the outcome. My range now fits tight against the wall and the microwave looks good. (Since cabinets on one side of the microwave had been shimmed out away from the wall, the installation was a little tricky.) After everything was completed, we did a walk through to identify other projects and solutions to some electrical and plastering issues. Everything took about 6 hours. Although Tom left for a while, he was back and forth about 3 to 4 times to check the progress and inspect the job. We have used Jarus several times in the past, and he is always out first choice in electrical work. We always get quality work, incredible knowledge, and reasonable solutions to sometimes difficult problems.
Description of Work: Tom and his associates pulled a line for new microwave and installed it. They also altered electrical outlet for stove, changed two-prong to three-prong outlet in basement, pulled grounded line from panel box, and installed new switches.

I couldn't ask for better more professional work and service. Tom and his crew worked diligently for about 3-4 days, cleaned up meticulously and everything looks and works great. Neighbors even commented about his professionalism and friendly manner and will be using Tom for some similar work of their own in the Spring.

Jarus was a referral and initially I was extremely happy with the work done. If I would have rated him at the time of service (3/11/11), I would have rated him as an "A" in all areas. Late in 2013, one of the outlets that he updated does not work anymore. I called 3 times between Dec. 2013 thru mid-Jan. 2014. I received no response at all. If I would have been contacted and there would have been a charge for repair to be done, I would have considered it. However, since I tried contacting Jarus 3 times and explained the issue on their voicemail, I would not recommend using Jarus as initially they might do a wonderful job, but in the long run when there is an issue, they can't even return a phone call. That tells me that they do not stand behind their work or their customers or want to deal with an issue down the line (even if it's over a year later). Because of this issue and the lack of returning phone calls (even to let me know that they do not service my area anymore or refer another electrician), I would rate Jarus as a D.

We may be contacted through email, voicemail and text. Really don't know what more we could have available. Since we never received any messages from you via voicemail, you could have tried another method. We also find it curious that you are leaving a negative report now when you were very obviously pleased with our work when it was done in 2011, and now it is approximately 6 months from the time you say you attempted to contact us.

We called Tom around 8:00 AM. He was on another job but said he would rather do our small job and then go back and finish work in Bay Village. He and an assistant Zach arrived in a couple of hours and assessed our needs. My husband spent a fair amount of time talking to Tom about future work -- we have multiple projects down the line! However, while he went to look for a more appropriate fixture, Zach changed out the outlet in kitchen and even changed a bulb which he noticed was out in one of the bedrooms. When Tom returned, they completed the installation and, again, talked to us about some other issues in the house. Tom had done work for us a couple of years ago resulting from a tree coming down and taking out the main line to the house. His work is top notch! He is very knowledgeable and careful. No hack jobs with him. My husband and I are very picky, and he always lives up to our expectations. His associates conduct themselves accordingly. When he and his associate Mike did the storm work, the final outcome received compliments even from the lineman who did the final inspection. We appreciate contractors who take pride in their work.
Description of Work: Replaced outlet box in kitchen which had been sparking. Installed bedroom overhead light which Tom took time to seek out and purchase. (The one we intended to use was old and used circuline florescent bulbs.) Tom recommended new fixture that would accommodate dimmer and LED bulbs so we wouldn't have to change them very often.

Called Jarus for an electrical issue that wasn't an emergency but a safety issue beyond DIY. The woman that answered the phone was very pleasant. She said their technicians were tied up with commercial projects for the next few days and she would contact the boss and I would be called back within a day or two to schedule. Needless to say, no return call was received. This is the second time in two years I called Jarus with no return call. Note to the "boss" don't advertise residential as part of your service if you have no intention of servicing residential.

This is the second time I have worked with Tom and both times have been great! They were able to fit us in their busy schedule and get the work completed when we were hoping for. They did everything we wanted, it turned out great and they cleaned up nicely when they were done. I have worked with Tom twice and would work with him again in the future.

Called thrir office (Wensday) to inquire if thry could install a new lighting fixture in our laundry room. The lady that answered the phone took our request details and indicated she would call us back to let us know when the services would be performed. Withen ten minutes the office person call back and said she had spoken to the boss and he indicated that they were just finishing a big job and they would come to our house on the following Monday or Tuesday but for SURE on Wednesday and that they would call when they were coming. Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday came and no phone call. We waited until Friday of that week hoping they would call to give us an indication of when they would be coming. To this day (April 28, 2013) we have not been calle with any explaination. We called another electric company Mr. Electric) and recieved excellant service.

Well, [member name removed] should have called us back. If you will note, he reached a human when he called, not voice mail, which is very unusual in the electrical business. Then he was called back, something else very unusual in this business. When he didn't hear back from us, he should have called us. When people don't call back, and say "what's up?", it almost looks as if they are trying to punish business people on Angie's List. We offer outstanding electrical service and a human answers our phone as close to 24/7 as humanly possible. We try to accommodate everyone, but we are only human. Handling several jobs at once, large and small, sometimes we need reminding. I doubt anyone could stand up to the standards some Angie's List users set...not even themselves. Look at our reviews for completed work....they speak for themselves.

Loved them. Professional service and job was a little tricky as wires had to be run across the unit to the other side. Price somewhat high for a small job as based on service hours vs job. That said, am using them again for another electrical problem as trust their work and ethics.

Before we had all of the work completed Tom came out to the house and spent at least an hour with us discussing all the issues that we had. He was very nice and patient. He was very professional over the phone. The first time i talked to him he was in an attic space and called me back as soon as he was done. Once we were ready to have the work completed, which was almost a month later, my call was handled promptly and scheduled for the next day! Tom and Zach came to my house on-time. Again, they were very nice and able to answer all my questions. They updated me on the status of the work. I was very happy with the services performed, I thought the price was very reasonable, I would use Jarus again and recommend them to anyone.
Description of Work: switched out 2 ceiling lights, an under the cabinet light, an exterior light and the exterior door bell/intercom. replaced a ceiling light with a ceiling fan and hooked up the proper switches and hooked up the proper switches for another ceiling fan which had not be done properly. also, changed some lightbulbs which are about 20 feet high up. this was a 4 hour job

I'm quite pleased with the work - I am still pleased every time the a/c kicks on and the lights don't flicker like they used to! Tom and his son and another associate did the work over a two-day span. Tom had explained everything up front, and was organized and methodical, qualities I like in an electrician! My only complaint was in communications, initially, as I had some difficulty getting responses about when we could schedule the work. Once we had everything scheduled, I was quite pleased with his communications and the work he did. I would absolutely call him again if I need additional electrical work done.
Description of Work: We had the main circuit breaker box (ca. 1950) replaced, and Tom also installed an additional breaker box in the basement, to handle the load of the dehumidifer, washer, sump, and a refrigerator and freezer. He also replaced a few outlets in the basement as part of the upgrade to the new sub-box, and installed a whole-house surge protector as an Angie's List bonus.

I can't say enough about Tom and his assistant in terms of their professionalism, responsiveness, courtesy, and expertise as electricians. I don't have frequent need for his services, but when I do the response is always as it was this time. It's very comforting to know that he is there when we need him and can rely on him to resolve the problem completely and in a timely manner.
Description of Work: I was out and called home because of a tripped circuit breaker with a strong electrical smokey smell from the box. I called Jaurus Electric at about 7:30pm. Tom's wife got a hold of him and he was there in under an hour. He found a burnt wire due to an overloaded circuit. Apparently a previous contractor who installed an outlet on the front porch which was supposed to have it's own circuit had tied it into an existing circuit which with the holiday lights caused the overload. Tom made the repair to the circuit and the wiring, and also diagnosed the cause of the problem that night. He then agreed to come out the following week before Christmas to install the new circuit so we'd have the holiday lights.

My experience with Tom was amazing. I live in Columbus and called a few electricians in Cleveland. Tom was the only one that was able to make time see me on the same day. This was really important to me because it was a rental property and I needed to get the bathroom light, fan, and bedroom outlet fixed for the tenants. Tom was on time (which was great since I was timing up my drive from columbus with the appt. time). We went over my problems and he examine my breaker box and then traced all the runs leading from the bathroom to a junction box and located the problem. This was a little more challenging because my basement is a mix of knob and tube and splicing. While in the basement I asked him about the process of cleaning up the knob and tube with romex runs. He walked me through the process and gave me a quote. Right before he left he asked if there was anything else I had any questions on. I remember that the three-way switch upstairs wasn't working properly. He said that he could take a look at it right then. He opened up the switch plates and was able to figure out where the mistakes were made with the wiring. All-in-all it was a great experience. I hired him to come out to fix one problem and he took care of two. I plan on hiring him again after the holiday to clean up my the knob and tube wiring in my basement. Thanks Tom.

I contacted Jarvus by phone, left a message. They responded in less than four hours. Set an appointment for estimate. Jarvus showed up right on time, gave me an estimate. Than set a date and time to perform the work. Again he showed up right on time. The outside lamp post needed (hard to find ) light bulbs that I was not aware of. He took the time to drive ten miles to buy the bulbs so the work could be completed that day. Jarvus has been very professional and efficient both times we have used them. They will always be called for any electrical work we need.

I answer my own telephone, I do not have an office staff to do it for me. Sometimes my calls go to voice mail because I don't get cell service where I am working. I try to return my calls in a timely manner, but that may take a few days. It is not unusual to receive 20+ phone calls per day in the summer, our busiest season, and it is not unusual for it to take some time to return those calls, with the exception being emergencies. People who really want me to do the job for them never hesitate to call me back if they need to speak to me before I return their call. As in everything else, cooperation is the key.

After seeing Jarus on Angie's list, reading the reviews, and being happy with its rating, I called to get an estimate for electrical work. I never received a phone call back and it has been over a week. I find this humorous given that their website even says "We Respond! Call us..." Right now is the busiest time of the year. I answer my phone when I am able, but remember that I am on the job, not sitting in an office. If you leave a message, I get back to you as soon as I am able. If the time perameters are not to your liking, feel free to call back. In addition, clients need to speak slowly and clearly if they are leaving a message. I can't return a call if I have a garbled telephone number in the message.

Overall, not a good experience. Tom was kind enough to stop by to look at what I thought was an easy fix with a bathroom outlet. He stopped by after hours which I appreciated. Issue 1 - He quoted a rate of $60/hour and charged $120 for 1 hour of work (I checked my watch before and after he arrived). Granted I should have pushed back on that, so that's partly on me. Issue 2- We identified a lot more work that needed done. He estimated a day's worth of work but did not give an actual amount. He said he'd call back to schedule. He did not. I followed up with an email, he responded on Friday that he'd do his scheduling over the weekend. Today is Tuesday, no word from him. I made arrangements with another electrician to provide an estimate. Disappointing as he seemed competant and other reviewers had good experiences...

This person called me during the day and asked me what my hourly rate is. I responded that it is $60/hr. He then had me come out at 8 p.m. to fix a small problem. I don't work at 8 p.m. for the same hourly rate that I work during the day. I don't know any contractors who would come out at 8 p.m. for an hour and charge $60. At that time I explained that I was booking 4 weeks out, and that I do my scheduling over the weekend. I told him that I would call him when I had a an opening and we could get the job scheduled. I never told him that I would contact him the following week to schedule his work.

From the beginning we were impressed with Tom's knowledge and professionalism. The storm had caused some damage to the brickwork on the house, and we were very concerned about how the repairs would look. My husband is a retired architect and I am equally "picky." Tom was very sensitive to our priorities and offered to paint the pvc encasement for the wiring a dark brown to better match the house. The outcome was a functional and, also, attractive job. We are very pleased! Tom has been back to do a couple of smaller jobs with similar quality. We have an older home which needs a fair amount of electrical work to be done. I would not call anyone other than Tom. He and Mike will make it work and look beautiful, too.
Description of Work: Initially, Tom and his associate re-established electricity after a storm had uprooted a tree and ripped the wiring from the house. This was done within a day after the incident happened. Subsequently, new wiring and a new box were installed (and brought up to code) so that CEI could run wiring from the house to the pole. Work was completed in two days.

I found Jarus Electric on Angie's list. I selected this company because of their outstanding ratings and were highly recommended by Angie's List users. I called the company and spoke to the owner of the company, Tom Jarus. He told him he would happy to give us a free estimate of the job. The next day Tom came to our house. We discussed the project and gave us some guidance on just what we needed to have done. Tom was punctual, professional and very knowledgeable. He sent us an email the next day with the cost of our project. We thought it was a very fair and reasonable price. He asked us when we wanted the job to be done. We decided on the following week. Tom and I communicated several times by email during that week. Tom made sure we knew what time he would arrive at our house. The day of project came and Mike, Tom's assistant arrived at the exact time we expected him. He started the job immediately. Mike was knowledgeable, friendly and very careful not to hurt our newly installed granite. Tom arrived shortly there after and they completed the job in two hours. They cleaned up, showed us how to operate our new lights, how to open the case if we need to change bulbs and left us with the best lighting we have any where in our house. why can't all tradesmen operate their business like these two gentlemen????
Description of Work: We had our old under counter lights replace, a dimmer installed and two plugs installed in our kitchen. Mike and Tom removed the current over counter lights and replaced them with eight better quality lights that can be dimmed. They installed a dimmer switch.
