Great Lakes Contracting

I hate to write a bad review but I feel that we need to warn people about what happened to us with this company since they are not willing to settle this amicably and the work we paid for is not complete. We s/w Brian about a chipped tile that I suspected to be an asbestos tile. It was crumbled into lots of pieces so he said it would be considered fibrous, so if the tile is asbestos, it can be dangerous. I have asthma so I needed for this tile to be encapsulated until we figure out what to do with the rest of the floor. He quoted $350 which seemed high but we were willing to pay bc of health concerns. He did come out the following day swept out the area with a HEPA vacuum and put some kind of paint substance over it. He advised while he was there that it had been sinking but asked me to look if the work was ok. At the time I looked, the whole area in question had been covered with the white substance so I agreed that it looked ok. As he picked up the vacuum a piece of the tile came out of the nozzle. I told him about it and he just picked it up off my carpet and took it outside. I was a little concerned since it was possibly an asbestos tile but let it go. Of course he asked for payment before he left so we wrote a check. No receipt was given. The next day after it dried I looked and there were holes all over and you can even still see the edges of at least one of the broken pieces of tile and it is NOT covered by the white paint like substance. We sent pictures and then called Brian and he advised that he told us it had been sinking. we said that when he left it was all even and looked at least like it was encapsulated. He said it was fine and he has been doing this a long time. We advised we paid a lot to encapsulate 1 tile which took 20-30 minutes and it isn’t even complete and that part of the broken tile is still exposed. He advised he had driving time and looked at other items for us. When he first arrived he asked if we had anything else and we told him about some mold concerns in the attic. So he looked at that for about 15 minutes. We said his listing says provides free estimates(which we didn’t even receive an estimate for the attic) and the amount we paid was the cost for coming out and encapsulating the tile. We advised we would call him back. We texted him for a receipt... no response. We called the following day and seemed to be put right to voicemail so we left a message for a call back...No response. We called through Angi a couple days later and he answered and said he would call us the next evening Bc he was out of town and it’s now 3 days later and no call back. We, along with others that have looked at the work, agree that all of the tile was not encapsulated and that the work we paid for was not completed and just want to make known what happened to us. I expected more from someone who is rated 5 stars.

Brian called shortly after I requested a quote. He came out promptly to get samples. He was able to start work shortly after the lab results came back. They finished in one day and did a good job cleaning up when they were done.

Brian and his team were very nice and professional! He called me back within minutes of submitting my info on Angie’s List! I had asbestos flooring removed in a bedroom. You can’t even tell it was there now! I’ve used two other companies before and neither one sanded the floor down. I would highly recommend.

Brian was Fantastic. The work was completed professionally and on time. We are extremely happy with the results and will rest easier now that the Asbestos has been removed.

I highly recommend Brian and his team of Cedric and Robert. Our HVAC contractor put Brian in touch with us and HE called US that same day from his vacation. We had a 97-year old boiler and asbestos throughout the basement that needed to be removed. Our basement was also full of stuff, which they were able to move and work around as necessary. Brian came out on a Sunday to look at the job and started the work the next day. He's very responsive to texts and phone calls and communicates as to when the crew will arrive and leave and how the work is going. The guys were very nice, friendly, polite, and cleaned up when they were done. It was a great experience.

The team was very thorough in their work and the results were well done and timely. Brian’s final touches to make sure the job was done right, personally coming back on a Sunday to finish some punch list items, was greatly appreciated. I would highly recommend Brian to friends and family and will use him again if the need arises.

Great Lakes Contracting did an outstanding job. Brian got back to me right away to schedule the asbestos testing and the results report was emailed to me promptly. Brian came out on short notice and took care my basement. Brian also found more asbestos and removed or encapsulated everything. There was no asbesto removal in my area and Brian came out personally to help take care of our asbestos issue. Lastly the pricing was fair.

Removal this time as well as during previous work they did for us was very professional, safe, and well cleaned afterwards. They were also quite honest about the work that needed to be done to meet required standards. This team was very professional and was able to come in and get it done pretty quickly (we were in the middle of a basement reno when it was discovered, so we had to put everything on hold). They put tarps all around the working area (including the floor) and were very efficient. I even called afterwards to ask additional questions, and Brian was very helpful and knowledgeable.
